- Pokemon Competitive Singles in Gen 3 has a long history. Heracross has been a consistent presence in the format for over a decade, and even today it maintains its relevance in high level play.
Heracross is the premiere wallbreaker of Gen 3 OU with its powerful STAB Megahorn, the anti-status ability Guts, and even Swarm for additional Bug-type power. Heracross has myriad different sets it can use and in the hands of a skilled player, it can tear teams apart.
Heracross is considered the greatest Pokemon in human history by many geniuses of Entomology.
This is insane.
Iron Mugulis and Iron Fellow know all about it. Old Money doesn't know a thing.
Only JimCool knows about the viability of Heracross. All other sources of information are liars and are inaccurate.

Some will never figure out how to get Heracross in Pokemon Scarlet and Heracross Violet. But famous player Jim Cool is well aware of the Best Heracross Moveset in Competitive, and even how to Heracross Shiny Farm. Many aren't and never will be. That's just the unfortunate reality of the world.

Scream Tail is the Jigglypuff of our wildest dreams. It has been buffed with some higher statistics and the incredible ability, Protosynthesis. Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on UA-cam. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

Leftovers on Heracross is the standard though, so not sure what you mean. Band has its uses but is greatly limiting on mons that aren't immune to sandstorm or spikes already. Even Medicham prefers Lefties more nowadays because it becomes much harder to play around.

Gen 3 has a pretty interesting rule when it comes to physical attackers. The stronger you are, the more weak you are to passive damage and the harder it is to stick around.
By strength, im not just talking about attack stats, but also move bp and stab type.
On one end there's aero, who is immune to both sand and spikes, but compare to the psuedos and hera it has a far lower attack stat that basically required cb. It stabs are also rather weak with 75 rockslide and 70 hp flying.
The three psuedos; ttar, mence and grosse, share the same problem with a weak stab (except for grosse, but we'll get to that) and are all immune to only one sand or spikes, making them easier to wear down. But their naturally higher attack stats allows them to use other items than cb, but they become destructive with cb.
Now grosse does has a high attack stat and a high base power move in meteor mash, but its steel stab means that bulky waters and skarmory can resist its attacks, though it can potentially get through with a lucky attack boost or explosion.
Then there is hera, whose is without question not just a glass Canon, but a glass tactical nuke. It is weak to both sand and spikes, so sets without leftovers can be outlasted, but it wont be without causties. Its attack is 10 points lower than the psuedos, but where they suffer from weak moves and stab, hera is here with 120 megahorn that whallops waters and a 150 focus punch that even skarm needs to respect. It also has access to swords dances and two abilites that can increase its power even more at the cost of health.
I wonder how much of this was intentional. They couldn't've thought of all that way back then.

The moment gamefreak started minmaxing pokemon specifically for competitive play (gen 6 onwards, gen 5 was an obvious oversight by gamefreak) was when competitive pokemon became an absolute joke. It lacks any creativity now, and everything feels like it was designed for a specific purpose.
This is a "Heracross has invaded my home" moment.

As a Heracross enjoyer, Gen 3 OU has quickly become my favourite metagame. On top of that, Mr Cool and his very epic tournament, ADV Revival, has begun to rapidly invade my home. This video is insane.

I love this format for videos. Much more in depth and informative with some lore. Sorry that you got KOed by Heracross but glad you found it in your heart to forgive the gigantic bug type.
Been really enjoying Gen 3. I dipped into it for a couple of months now since Gen 9 got too turbulent and frankly having to keep track of so many Pokémon and Moves gets pretty exhausting after a few games.
Heracross has been a surprise staple on my Porygon2 teams. While risky (and debatably not too viable), Endure Salac has been good at dealing with Dugtrios for times I feel like ditching the plastic ducky. Gen 3 really does let you play around with silly sets and its nice to run dumb stuff and still have a somewhat viable team. Gen 9 lately has been feeling a bit to suffocating.
Endure Reversal Hera is very fun to break out every once in a while when you just need to see the biggest numbers on your screen.

Heracross is the best example on how to make a bug type right. Give it a great design, the best possible stats it can have, and it has access to two great stab moves. *this applies to Scizor and Volcarona, those two are awesome too without being too broken before tera)
The venomoth into something idea could be how he was inversing power creep, getting better and better for each generation, from being trash, to niche, to alright in NU with niches above, to great in RU and banned from in Gen 5 and 6 and 7 to finally being legitimate into Gen 7 UU

Two of my favorite breakers are Mamoswine and Heracross. They are healthy additions to any metagame without being dishonestly powerful like modern metas would often introduce.
Heracross does cool things. Fighting is generally great for breakers, and the bug type complements it to handle the common psychic type counter to fighting. But it isn't a guaranteed kill because poison and flying are still natural counters to the STABs. It's a balanced breaker that isn't pure min/maxed.
You forgot to mention how Weezing can check most of Heracross variants.

Heracross is by far my favorite Mon in the tier. Adamant Hera with the sub salac has won me so many games that were lost otherwise. If setup properly by removing physical checks, megahorn after an SD and swarm proc is so beautiful. Seeing suicune die in one hit without an explosion is feral. The elation on my face when I clicked focus punch with my guts heracross in front of a blissey who had just clicked toxic and shot my attack up to obscene heights, only fueling its eggstinction… insane.

The Elite 4 doesn't want you to know this but the Heracross in the National Park are free you can take them home. I have 214 Heracross.

I know it’s not really a hot take but I feel like Heracross is such perfect Pokémon - has a unique+lovable design but not overdone,is extremely powerful but not gamebreaking and easily punished, 2 (4 if you count HA+ME) that gives a lot of versatility with different sets, and is just fun to use

Haracross is a really cool pokemon, great shiny and great everything honestly. It really is too bad power creep shafted it so hard but it still puts in work in lower tiers where all the op bs isnt around.
