Goblin Assassin flavour text is the best - ‘The more victims he kills, the more likely he is to get the right one.’
I liked the synapse sliver "Species XR17 feeds upon the mental energies of its victims. This explains why the goblins remain unaffected."
This guy is my go to
Sounds like a police officer in the US
PLEASE KEEP DOING OLD OPENINGS LIKE THIS
“ that’s literally what I look like when I creep around at night looking through people’s windows”.. 😂Man it never gets old 🤣
" A lot of slivers...." Opens first pack, no slivers...
“50 percent of the set has to be slivers”
-rudy
Hehehe
This is one of the sets when I really started playing. A lot of the flavor comes from the full length books they released with each set which were, stand alone, great products with well written storylines and care put into them. That and the extra money put towards quality art and packaging. This video brought me back to a time when wizards had different priorities. Thanks Rudy. Sets like this made me fall in love with MTG.
.... I also had a U/W bird deck 😅
Same here I was 14 and ended up buying Phage for like $9 I was so fascinated with it, I was in the card shop with my cousin and he was looking at Akroma, I told him to buy it straight up, he bought a booster packed instead in hopes to pull it and ended up pulling it, it was amazing.
Those books were awesome. I was sad to see them stop being made.
Hey Rudy I really enjoy your content, you also have a great personality! Keep up all the good work. Excellent intro also:)
1:70 cards, "one in every three packs." how did rudy pass the series 7?
tbf it felt like he was pulling a foil out of every three packs
Rudy math ... it gets you everytime.
Think maybe he does subtle things wrong intentionally to trigger people? Or it could be being human you inevitably make mistakes on camera.
@@implode3 you'll never find out - that's the secret ingredient ^^
Bruce Woodcock or maybe it doesn’t matter because nobody cares, people just want to see the cards.
Your intros, pack openings, analysis, and sense of humor are all fantastic. Never watched much UA-cam before I found your videos..by far my favorite thing to watch on UA-cam aside from comedy sketches and the occasional Magic videos from “the other guys” ( who aren’t nearly as sharp or witty ). Keep it up and happy holidays dude! Enjoy yourself some Xmas Gorditas and some New Years Chalupas, and don’t slap your nuts too much.
Damnit Rudy. I'm trying to be productive and you keep uploading videos
Scumbag investor
Sooo many memories... Legion was the set i started with, seeing "my" old cards brings an awesome feeling of old-school and nostalgia
I remember when I was in high school and this set came out. I managed to get 3 akromas and one Phage out of the only 12 boosters I managed to buy with my money. I was so happy about it back then and sold two akromas for about 20€ each, wich is hard to believe by todays' standards.
On a side note, the gempalm elves with their 4 recycle cost were reaaally strong. The effect couldn't be countered, you got to draw a card and have all your elves getting +2+2.
So much tribal themed stuff packed in one block. Man the feels just got me, I wish I could be that guy excited about opening one booster again.
Rudy sees elf:
"WHAT IS HE DOING UP IN THAT TREE??????????????"
i don't play magic so these videos mean nothing to me. but i like this Timmy guy. 3:23 borderline all the time but delivers quality info when it comes to breaking down events and trends.
finance/scm student. my teach told me insurance companies are adopting a different types of block systems for insuring forest fire/flood risk areas. your info crosses that boundary and applies to what im learning. i appreciate that. sincerely.
Man Legions brings me back. This is the block that was around when I started playing. Some wicked fun cards in this set.
one of the only places you can see content like this. Absolutely love it when you open old boxes, Rudy!
This over throne of eldeaine collectors all day
At 13:06, you passed over it, but Ridgetop Raptor was the first card ever with double strike. Back when they had the "You make the card" promotions, a player suggested double strike as a mechanic. Wizards liked the idea so much that they actually made it.
i love these intros, i could watch a whole 20 minutes of just panning shots across rudy's collection while chill music plays in the background
Cool music for the exploring the hoard. I always imagined the avatar last airbender drums going when you float through that dream land of magic cards 😁
Onslaught block was a great time to be playing Sealed Deck and Drafts - there were so many mana producer cards in Onslaught that high cost creatures in Legion were never a problem. Also in draft, Morph Cards were working double duty for the spell effect when you flip them face up. I loved Onslaught / Legion / Scourge
Morph was introduced when legions came out ad a way for them to have extra value since there were no spells in the set. I loved this whole block when it came out, and was the epitome of my magic obsession. I was 14 when this set came out.
I was around the same time in my life, turned 16 a month after it came out. I remember jumping into standard for the first time during Onslaught/Legions. I really liked Blistering Firecat and Clickslither.
I’ve been waiting for a legions opening so long. No value just nostalgia
I wanna see some onslaught and original ravnica, scourge too
With dark supplicant, you can have Scion of darkness out by turn 3. I have a legacy deck built around those two cards and their synergy. Kilnmouth dragon was my jam back in middle school. A lot of nostalgic cards opened here. Thanks for the trip back to 8th grade.
foil ratio 1:70 about 1 foil every 3 packs but the box average is about 6 foils per box makes total sense keeps it up Rudy
I recently started playing Magic again. I still have a shoe carton full of mostly Onslaught, Legions, Scourge, Mirrodin, Darksteel, Fifth Dawn, 7th and 8th Edition cards from my childhood. I built a black/white clerics tribal deck with it which is a lot of fun to play. Though I don't have Scion of Darkness. :(
Loved Legions. Never realised at the time that the whole set were creatures. A lot of my playgroup's decks were made from legions, Elf decks, Goblin decks, my Sliver deck. Great time, especially because with every pack we would find cards for eachother decks, no one knew all the cards in the set.
As someone who played during Legions, I can tell you this: All Colors got 2 Slivers in Each Rarity.
I was 12 when onslaught and legion came out and it was also when I first got into magic. I still have my 5 colour sliver deck with the stronghold queen and overlord. I haven't seen most of these cards in over 15 years. tons of nostalgia for me in this video.
onslaught was one of the coolest blocks ever for both casual and pro play - it had fetches, it shifted tribal into overdrive, and had a bunch of memorable bomb cards (and let's not forget the slivers and cycling decks).
Both onslaught block and the first ravnica block were imo two of the best blocks
"They wouldn't put anything in the box anymore, cost cutting am I right?"
No, it's on the back of the tokens.
Legions is right around the time I started playing for real! God bless your patreon for this video, a set I love
I loved Legions. I pulled a bunch of slivers in the prerelease and went on to build a great sliver deck I used for yeeeears.
this is the best kind of videos SliveRudy can make, just love the enhusiasm and magical artwork/feel of theese old packs! i could listen to a story about each single card for hours and hours. thank you
The art from this set is amazing honestly sssoooo good
Everything old was good
@@bradcallahan3546 eeeeeh legends sucked JK
"and 8 drop! if this was printed in 2019 it would be like a 2 drop"
that whole block had such great tribal synergy. and the lore at the time was also amazing. still have my books from the fat packs of that cycle
Rudy missed that white knight and black knight, were reprinted in this set. This was really cool to watch. I miss the days of old..
This set really felt like they were saying "Screw constructed, booster draft is what this set is about!"
Nice lord of wind mat 👀
Somehow missed this video, but Onslaught block was a big push for drafting back then. These were my mid/late college years and mtgo helped bolster the booster draft. If I remember properly, Onslaught had a ton of enchanments/creatures, legion was a lot of synergistic creatures, and scourge was mostly spells/very large creatures (dragons). It was an amazing block to draft, but outside of that, standard play was weird and crappy (goblin decks, zombie decks and some white weenie resurgence). Seemed like the game was about dead, but mirrodin saved it/brought it back to life.
Ahhhh...this brings me back. Played so much when this set was out.
I'm very here for the intro music on the recent box opening videos.
Only 4 minutes in so far, but morph first appeared in Onslaught, the first set of this block. The set symbol for Onslaught is the clay spider, which represents the 2/2's while they are face down. If you pay attention to a lot of the art, you will see creatures bursting out of the clay spiders, representing that they have morphed.
Liked for the Somberwald Alpha and Gather The Pack in the in the beginning of the video.
By far my favorite magic set.
I have Scion of Darkness in one of my commander decks. He's an awesome card to reanimate since he can cycle himself.
Nostalgia, Fun, Memories, Going into a another world using the Art and gameplay. For us old farts it is a given.
I hope new players get the same memories, feelings, fun and nostalgia when they play with the cards when they started, whatever set it may be!
Rudy, I just want you to know. I fall asleep to your majestic voice almost every night. Obviously my sleep self doesn’t turn phone off, so the whole video gets watched. You’re welcome.
“I’d take her to Netflix.” LOL
What's with the music? I always liked just flying around and bumping into things. It reminds me of my childhood.
I remember back the mid-2000, I was playing 2 headed giant with a bunch of friends. We were at a stalemate and at the my opponent had Whispersilk Cloak and Lightning Greaves on the field. He later bust out Phage the Untouchable and started laughing as he started to equip it to Phage. At the time I play a Samurai deck (not the best but fun to play around) and I stop him. I said "before you equip anything, I play Otherworldly Journey on Phage". I did that just to stop him from one shotting us from the game. Then I stop for a moment and thought it through and said you lost the game. He was "no I didn't" and I had explain that Phage didn't come back into play from his hand so therefore he lost. That the last time my friend ever use Phage because of my Samurai deck. Probably one of my best moment in Magic that got me cracking up back in high school.
Clickslither was a workhorse back in the day. I remember goblins being actually broken during this time.
Missed this when I took off time from playing magic. Looking to build a new sliver commander deck and I now know where to find some cool ones lol!
Love these old openings like this wish Rudy would do more of this. Synapse Sliver is 11 bucks most expensive rare in the set
Now if someone ever bought Rudy's Portal 3 kingdoms box from him for like 20k, that would be awesome to open
The intros have become my favorite part of the box openings
When I was introduced to MtG, Legions was the first pack I ever opened... The memories man...
Fun fact. I had been playing magic 6 years before this set came out. Nothing better than old school
Art on these cards is amazing! What a box!
How much is a booster box of Legion worth, and how much to to open one on the channel, Legion was released my birth year.
So good for nostalgia, this was not a good time to play magic, crap set and crap gameplay, but so good for the heart travel back in time
Thanks Rudy
Rudy’s intros looking like some weird found footage type shit..
I like it.
Back in my day we didn't have all these modern planeswalkers ! ... Yeah I'm 30+ :D :D Onslaugh was my starting set, good memories.
that cold open was your best yet.
Man this set has some nice artwork and creatures (flavor wise not gameplay wise). Really like it
Now I’m curious about whatever game that playmat is for...
Flesh and blood tcg
Wow what a sweet set. They dont make art like this anymore! I would have loved to play this!
This was the block that I played and I loved my silver deck! Best set of the 3 100%!
Its 1 : 70 instead of 1 : 100 premium cards! IDK why sets from 2000-2008 get hose town EV.
Maybe bc in the year 2000 I was a 6th grader and I had some magic cards a friend gave me, but i didn't play them... I realized quick I couldn't become the kid sitting at "THAT" table in the cafeteria IF I HAD ANY CHANCE at Stacy's mom - ya know what i mean, eh? ; ) Now that Iam 30 I came back to MTG and even my old PokeMeMan cards. Well, Arena about 14 months ago. Saw that and got all nostalgic, dug up my old binder, subbed to Rudy, and had an epiphany..."Luxury cardboard rectangles" are what I need.
I don't want to blow your mind but morph goes back even farther than that. I distinctly remember hating it and I stopped playing before legions came out.
Sweet flesh and blood gear.
Man I just love that old foil style.
Set of my age! LOVE the art on these
While I didn't make an insect deck I did make a zombie goblin deck with that clickslither. Its was a lot of fun.
You get an idea of the product scarcity when Rudy opens it carefully
@alpha_investments will you sell like 100 random green cards (with no other creatures except elfs)
This was my first set when I got into MTG. All creature set. All about creature types.
🤯 I had no idea!
I thought morph came out in onslaught
i have 2 foil crown of vigors and i was wondering if someone could tell me how much they are worth.
sure brings back the memories
the reason why stuff was so expensive to cast was back at this time wizards thought the pace of the game was too fast so they tried to slow it down... obvs it didnt work
what is that music? it seems familiar to me
I had a t1.5 deck based around toxin sliver 15 years ago
16:04 "what is going on" XD Happened to Rudy in Middle school
Rudy....... I also had an insect deck. For no other reason than just because I could and there was nothing else to do with your bulk cards at the time
Rudy's been giving us some awesome content
One of my favorite sets. Creatures from this expansion allowed for the creation of the legacy Sliver deck and the legacy Cleric deck, respectively, that should not be!
Eric Weis which slivers from this set are used in those legacy decks?
From this set the cosmic serpent told me to use 1 Brood Sliver, 1 Shifting Sliver, 1 Magma Sliver, 1 Synapse Sliver and 1 quick Sliver in my legacy Sliver deck.
11:25 best moment in the vid
"I mean seriously, how many face-down creatures are going to be in play?" as 50% of the cards that have been pulled all have Morph
i really enjoyed that intro
Flesh and Blood video coming?
Thanks for showing this cool set!
Nice art in this set.
When I started playing, I got a "500 card grab box" for $10, had a bunch of Legions and Un-Cards, and didn't know jack about them, I thought they're worth a ton...
It's says on the package that it's the first set that contains 100% creatures.
Flesh & Blood mat!! Just started playing that.
While there were no spells, they pretty much attached them to all the morph and cycling abilities.
A set with only creatures! That's like a box of tacos with no tacos! Unbelievable!
how much is a box of scourge?
That intro music is lit!
