      @J. M. when our cars were presented in the racetrack, europeans laughed at them (my father was there, he indeed was one of the crew of mechanics and one of the two who changed de famous exhaust in 9 minutes so the Torino would be on track as soon as posible). It is a great story. They returned to Argentina and a crowd was expecting as if they won the race (The Torino was the car with more laps in the 84 hours)

    There were many IKA Torino versions between 1967 and 1980, up to 200hp and 200km/h. Awesome car, well balanced, great sound, realiable and ahead of the existing U.S. cars of the time in Argentina. They even went to race in Europe in the late 60s with outstanding performance against european cars on a endurance race (Nurburgring 84 hours, 1969).

      I think those Mavericks were mostly North American spec. The driveway burnout had a Pennsylvania tag on it, while the Napierville Dragway is in Quebec, Canada. The red car has no licence plate, but the place for it is for North American dimensions. I'd love to see some Brazilian Fords. Bet they're seriously cool.

    • @felipegrijo5803
      @felipegrijo5803 5 років тому +2

      @@catjudo1 Well, basically we only had one muscle car (or pony car) from Ford, the Maverick. The versions were the Standard (the name say by itself), LDO (luxury version) and GT. The first ones could be 4 door or fastback, and the GT, fastback only. Until 1975 (if I'm not mistaken), the standard came equiped with a 183 pol 6 cylinder inline and 4 speed manual gearbox. The LDO could be equiped with the 183 or the 302 V8, 4 speed manual or 3 speed automatic. And the GT only with the 302 V8 and the 4 speed manual gearbox. After 1975, the first ones changed the 183 pol inline 6 for a 4 cylinder 140 pol, less powerfull but better to drive than the 183, believe me. The GT remained with the same configuration. I don't remember the year, but we had a special version called GT Quadrijet, a beast! In 1979 we said goodbye to this great Ford. Besides that, we only had the Galaxie/LTD/Landau that was the same car in different versions (basic, medium and luxury), all based in the American Galaxie 4 door from 1965-1968. They were equiped with the 292 V8. After 1975, if I'm not mistaken, it started to use the same 302 from Maverick until 1983 when we said goodbye to this great "ship".
      We had some trucks from Ford but we naver had this quantity of great cars as you have in the USA.
      PS; Sorry about any mistakes in my English since it isn't my first language.

    • @catjudo1
      @catjudo1 5 років тому +3

      @@felipegrijo5803 Thanks for that great response! Your language skills are better than a lot of native Americans I've known, so don't worry about it. It's funny that you got a Quadrajet from Ford, as here the name 'Quadrajet' was applied to General Motors Rochester carburetors. My parents owned a Pontiac Grand Le Mans wagon with a 400 cid (or 6.6 liter) V8 that had one of these fitted to it. It was already burdened with some of the emissions equipment we got starting in the late 60s and I have memories of my dad cussing the car out for being a bit hard to keep in tune. It's interesting to me that South American muscle cars came in four door versions as well as two door; I'm guessing because the overall market was smaller and car makers sold both versions to ensure a profit (Australia did the same thing). I hear enthusiasts complain about the current Dodge Charger having four doors and it makes me laugh. It's always neat seeing the cars we didn't get here in the United States, especially the ones that look like fun but were (or are) forbidden fruit. Thanks for your response!

    • @Johnnycdrums
      @Johnnycdrums 5 років тому +1

      The Maverick with the 302 was only available with a 2bl. carb.
      In the U.S., 1969 was the last year of the Falcon, the largest engine option was a 302 2bl.
      The 69' Falcon Futura Sport was real nice, My father brought one home from the dealership, red, black vinyl roof, black vinyl interior, carpeting, and it had real fat cushy bucket seats with the 302 engine, I think rated at about 220 hp.
      The 69' 302 is very rare in any Ford because most cars that were ordered came through with leftover 289's and installed by skeleton crews consisting of engineers because the union employees were on strike.
      A 69' Falcon with a 302 or 289 is exceptionally rare, but don't know which one is rarer.

    I've watched quite a few of your videos. Sadly, none of the specs you provide mentions the curb weight of these vehicles. When you compare them - even as favorably as possible - with today's cars, many of these cars don't seem to measure up to some of today's more affordable tire-burners. Look at the Dodge GTX featured here. Even if it's essentially the 1975 Dodge Dart chassis, at best It weighs 3200 lbs. with 233 hp - that's not a lot of power for that weight. Consider that a 2017 Honda Civic Type-R 3,117 lbs, 306 hp is available used at $35,000 topping out at 169 mph, that's faster than most of the muscle cars your channel has featured in the videos I've seen. I grew up in the Detroit suburbs from the mid-60s through the mid-80s and always appreciated muscle cars due to my uncle's Olds 442 that he raced at Milan Dragway. But the cars you've been featuring on this channel don't demonstrate most of the high-output, gut-churning acceleration or top speeds I recall from my youth. I'm itching to see some real Detroit Muscle, here!

    I know that, if I had any of these vehicles, then, since the vast majority of them, if not all of them, I would immediately drop one of the following types of engines under the hood, namely, a. a big ass 454 cu in motor for a Chevrolet (NA) Chevelle SS, b. 455 cu in Ram Jet V motor for the most powerful form of Pontiac Firebird, or GTO, c. the same engine and parts specifications that are found for a C4 Chevrolet Corvette engine, specifically, the Callaway Sledgehammer variant, or d. the most powerful current Chevrolet Corvette engine for the Chevrolet and ISA vehicles, as well as the proper, as well as most powerful, parts to accompany said engine, as well as transmissions and manual shift set ups. Now as for the Dodge vehicles, as well as the Puma, one could probably get away with tuning them at least to, if not beyond, NA Chrysler engine specifics, or you could get a. a Viper SRT-10 engine, b. a Hellcat crate engine kit, or c. a 426 Supercharged Hemi Hellephant crate engine kit, along with the accessories of either of the last two types of engines.

      Hi friend. Our Chevy Opala is, in fact, a european car called Opel Rekord, basically made to use 4 cylinder engines. Since the Brazilians always loved american cars, GM took the Rekord and gave it a "American vibe" in the suspension, interior and exterior and used the same engines and front sub-frame as the Chevy 2. But the Opala never had a V8 option because: a- Gasoline costs a fortune in Brazil; b- The Opala don't use a separated chassis, chassis and body are one piece (I don't know the word for it in English) and it isn't strong enough to put a heavyweight V8; c- It's a small and lightweight car compared to the American ones (less than 4m80cm and about 1300kg); d- The space under the bonnet is limited.
      It' possible to put a V8 in the Opala? Yes. The Australians did it (I love those crazy bastards) in the Holden Monaro GTS, equiped with the excellent Chevy 350 small block. But if you compare the Rekord, Opala and Monaro specs, you will see some minor diferences between them, like wheelbase and width. I already saw some Brazilians (a few ones) that equiped the Opala with the same engine. But it requires lot of work in the suspension, frame, sub-frame and a lot of minor parts. If not, the car will simply twist and crack the frame and all parts attached to it.
      PS: Sorry about any mistakes in my English since it isn't my first language.

    • @paxhumana2015
      @paxhumana2015 5 років тому +1

      @@felipegrijo5803 , the word that you are looking for in the English language, or, rather, words, to be more accurate, are a uni-frame body construction, or possibly body-on-frame construction, and you can blame Socialist and Muslim bastards for oil hikes in both Brazil and Venezuela for your oil being so high back then, as well as OPEC. However, what you did not consider in your reply to myself, besides the obvious reasons of why your oil prices are so high, is that it is now legal for Brazilian, Argentinian, Mexican, and Australian (at least pre-1995, or pre-1999, I don't know which one that it is, anyway) vehicles to be considered as antiques, more specifically, foreign antiques, in the USA, and thus no longer being a slave to many new car regulations, as well as the moronic so-called "chicken tax" in my country, so having a Brazilian Chevrolet Opala with a big ass 454 cu in Chevrolet (USA) Chevelle SS L54 engine is honestly what Chevrolet should have done in the first place back in the day for the highest end option in South and Latin America, oil and gas prices be damned. Hell, even Holden over in Australia/Oceania, would have benefited from such an engine and they, like the Brazilian and Argentinian/Latin American/South American GM divisions, are no slouches, with their HSV cars being pretty much on equal terms, especially in more recent years, with their North American home base as in the terms of performance. The Chevrolet SS, Fifth Generation Pontiac GTO, and the Pontiac G8 were all rebranded Holden cars anyway, namely the Holden Commodore SS, the Third Generation of the Holden Monaro/Vauxhall Monaro/Chevrolet (Middle East) Lumina SS/Holden Caprice/Holden Statesman/Cadillac (USA) Catera/Opel Omega B/Opel Insignia/Opel Commodore, and the Holden Special Vehicles Grange/Senator/Holden Caprice/Statesman WM/WN/Sixth Generation Chevrolet (USA) Caprice/Daewoo Veritas/HSV Grange/Bitter Vero/Buick (China) Park Avenue, respectively. The last vehicle that was mentioned was also the Third, and also last, Generation of that particular vehicle anywhere.
      Now don't get me wrong, your V6 engines are nice, and, with a bit of fine tuning, you could turn the Chevrolet version of a Chevette into a rally, as well as hot hatch/tuner beast, just like its more legendary British Vauxhall cousin, which is the Vauxhall Chevette, with one of those Opala SS engines under the hood, as well as improve its, meaning the Chevrolet Chevette's, body, suspension, frame, transmission, gear system, brakes, and any other weaknesses, but if you have SS under the hood of a Chevrolet vehicle, then it is essentially an unwritten, as well as universal law, that you need a V8 engine, and the only car to have done what big muscle cars did in your country back in the day was what GM did in recent times in my own country with the Chevrolet (USA) Cobalt SS (which, honestly, also would benefit from such a large and powerful engine, as well as numerous upgrades), and that car also had an even more powerful engine under the hood than even the Brazilian/Argentinian Chevrolet Opala SS, and that was DESPITE it, meaning the I4 Turbo LNF engine for the highest end Chevrolet Cobalt SS, ironically being an I4 engine, which, granted, is not a V6 engine, as well as that typical four cylinder engines are almost always slower than six cylinder engines, but it goes to show that, if you have the right people, you can turn any engine into a powerhouse, so if you saw an I4 engine making 260 HP stock, could you imagine what the potential would be if its full power was brought out by the right person, let alone your V6 engine, or, dare I say it, the same engine that powered the Chevrolet Chevelle SS L54? The possibilities are endless, sir, and craziness like this is what makes working on not only old cars, but new cars, SO worth the effort in the end.
      Finally, as for your English, you speak it well, unlike my Spanish and Portuguese, of which I struggle with both, despite having distant kin in Spanish speaking places, taking two years of Spanish in high school (which is the USA equivalent of secondary school), and watching a ton of Spanish speaking programs, mainly Spanish dubs of movies from my country, European football/soccer, and lucha libre, but at least Google Translate helps out with that somewhat. (I even had offers of a very, shall we say, romantic nature from women that spoke Spanish as their first language in the past online, and they were also quite the stunners as well in real life, but that is also another story for another time.) Now as for the minor differences between the Opel Rekord, Holden Monaro GTS/Vauxhall Monaro, and the Chevrolet (Brazil/Argentina/Latin/South America) Opala SS, there is nothing that skilled customization shops, mechanics, and the aftermarket parts shops cannot fix in regards to the issues that you had mentioned. You are also correct when you said, "I already saw some Brazilians (a few individuals) that equiped the Opala with the same engine, but it requires lot of work in the suspension, frame, sub-frame and a lot of minor parts. (However), If (these potential weaknesses and problems are) not (corrected), (then) the car will simply twist and crack the frame and all parts attached to it (, which will, naturally ruin the car, and that is simply not an option) ." However, as I stated before, there is nothing that skilled customization shops, mechanics, and the aftermarket parts shops cannot fix in regards to the issues that you had mentioned.
