X1/9. The most fun I ever had in a car. And I had a few sport cars in my my life, including two Triumph Spitfires, two Nissan 300Z's and a 350Z in my garage now. All fun cars but there's something about a mid-engine layout.
True!!! I've owned multiple miss engine cars, have two 88 Fieros, and Boxster, had 914.. BUT the MOST fun I've had in a mid engine car, or any car for that matter, was in my old X1/9's, a 1974, and 1979, while they were running!!! 😂
A friend of mine picked up a 1974 914 in Florida for a song and bought it back home on a trailer in pieces and boxes. We put it back together and built it up to handle hp. It could never be a show car and we didn't pretend it would be. It's had several powertrains with the current iteration being a 550 hp LS6 with an Audi 6-speed gear box. Beefy sway bars front and rear keep it planted. Fender flairs all around allow proper width race slicks. The steering rack ratio is nice and quick for autocross and makes this car great fun. It might not be a supercar but is just as much fun and a lot less expensive!
I really liked the 91 MR2 my friend had. I used to drive that around town a lot. But my God, the factory paint oxidized like crazy on it, especially on the spoiler
Several missing in this collection. Pontiac Fiero (certainly no supercar!), Lotus Europa, Renault 5 Turbo, Matra Simca Bagheera and its successor Talbot Matra Murena. Although the baby brother of the Bora, the Maserati Merak is in a different league than most of the cars featured. And the Renault Alpine A110 is rear-engined, not mid-engined.
I have had three of the cars in this list. The Lancia Montecarlo, the Fiat x1/9 and the Porsche 914. The most fun to drive was the fiat, but the Lancia garnered the most questions. With only 1803 ever imported to the US, they were virtually unknown
I still have a fiat X1/9 I bought new in 1989, a Porsche Boxster S from 2004 and 1979 Lancia Beta coupe. I would like a Montecarlo but hard to find in good condition these days. The Fiat is still a fun car considering its modest horsepower.
Neat video, but the Alpine A110 is a rear engined car. The engine hangs out beyond the centerline of the rear wheels, like a Porsche 911 or VW Beetle. Other than that little snafu, that's a fun video. One mid engine conversion I've always enjoyed were Corvairs. The air cooled six cylinder would be taken out of the rear and a V8 installed where the rear seats would have gone. Though a radiator would have to be added and a lot of custom fabrication performed, the end product was light, balanced and quick.
It’s mid-engine if the engine is between the front and rear axles. So, yes, you can put the engine in front of the driver, but it can make for a very long front end. A rear engine car has the engine behind the rear axle, like the Porsche 911.
I disagree about some of these not being ‘supercars’. In their day, the Lancia Montecarlo and Maserati Merac were quick. The Porsche Boxster/Cayman and Alpine 110 had some very high performance models.
Of all of these I had a super charged MR2 and the Porsche 914. Personally I liked the 914 better because it was more "mechanical" car so to speak. It handled better in the limits.
Can somebody tell me what's exactly the definition of ''Supercar''? Cause according to who you ask that, a car might be o might not be a supercar and that kinda confusses me.
One of the beauties of the X 1/9 was it's small engine. the Fiat 128 engine was a big bore/ Short Stroke engine. It almost approached F1 ratios of bore to stroke. Balanced out for racing, 10k on the tach was easy

um,.......... the Alpine is rear -engined.
True , no supercars here, but many superb cars !!!

What about the Fiero
Gotta have the fiero
Fiero deserves to be here.. the Merak not so much. I consider that a "supercar"
Yes, no Fiero, but otherwise a fine collection of real world mid-engined cars, in my opinion. 🇨🇦
Figured it would be a collection on foreign scrap that you wont see in your lifetime.
@Cliff Yablonski Later model Fiero's fixed the Overheating issue.

Absolutely. I currently have two fiats. A 1977 124 Spider and a 2012 500 Abarth. I love their unpretentious fun

Sterling Crockett + Thank you sterling
914's are the love of my life!!! The A110 is a close second. Motorwise, Toyoto's all over it!!!
The 914 handles really well for it age, very fun car to drive!

VW Beetle, Pontiac Fiero, VW Camper Van?
Missed the Matra Bagheera.
And by the way: The Alpine is rear engined
And the Matra Murena 2.2 !
Indeed!
Where is the Lotus Europa ?
Yeah what about the Fiero?...not to mention a few of the cars you just displayed are REAR engined?
I thought that myself...Plus the Toyota MR2 was a Hairdresser's car... Real men wouldn't be seen dead in one..
Almost bought a Porsche 914 with a Chevy 350 engine years ago. Kicking myself for not buying
A mid engined car that was most definitely not a supercar, nor a sports car, the MK1 Toyota Previa. Mid engined MPV, engine under the front seats.
i love the fiat x19 very simple and easy to drive
0:10 *I thought it was 4,120 hp!* 😂😂😂
super nice, i like american retro cars, simply fire.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
No Pantera?
It IS a supercar, in my book!! 🇨🇦
Yury Gagarin, first man who flyed to earth orbit, owned Matra Djet.
Suprised there was no pontiac fiero
they shouldve done a slow 917 Drive By at the End.. lol
One can see the influence of the Alpine A110 on the Marta Djet.

Good collection - but where is the 10th one?
The X1/9 shown was a 1979 car, by the bumper. I had one.
Good video
Some not seen before must be nice have this
Of all of these I had a super charged MR2 and the Porsche 914. Personally I liked the 914 better because it was more "mechanical" car so to speak. It handled better in the limits.
Maybe not supercars, but exotics nonetheless!
Make an update and add the newest Corvette C8
where is the lotus elise, is not a supercar
You forgot the melkus rs1000 and rs2000
The Subaru svx? Should be in this list.
Can somebody tell me what's exactly the definition of ''Supercar''? Cause according to who you ask that, a car might be o might not be a supercar and that kinda confusses me.
MG-TF
I thought the Alpine was built by Renault. BTW, no Fiero?!
I want a nfs porsche unleashed 2000 remake
no that game is shit
You forgot Honda del Sol and Pontiac Fiero
Idk why they call them mid engine when they're in the rear of the car
That's no Porsche engine in the 914 you featured.
04:06 "Elle est pas belle ma poule ? Regarde moi ça !"
aand i missed another premier :(
Minelordsuniverse + We are waiting for you on the premiere tomorrow :)
@@CarNewsTV I will make sure that im present on that time
@@CarNewsTV and can you premier a video showcasing the rarest supercars? I want to see the trion nemesis on the list :D
MG TF
Fyi, wrong interior for the MK1 MR2.
You never drove a flat 6 914 huh??
Where’s the Previa
Merak does NOT belong on this list.
Fiero
The X1/9 was also known for its rust.
Remove the bumpers of the Maserati, and, it will be fine, fine.
Elise?
Hi
Is it me or the Fiat tachometer backwards?
Yes. To me it was normal.
One of the beauties of the X 1/9 was it's small engine. the Fiat 128 engine was a big bore/ Short Stroke engine. It almost approached F1 ratios of bore to stroke. Balanced out for racing, 10k on the tach was easy
It's not uncommon by the looks of things..
Porsche can't even put a tacho in straight by the Bloody look of things .
Ginetta G32
Fiero????????
Small but noisy
Made in italy forever
That Porche sounds like crap
10 problematic cars
All show and no go. Had a moped with more hp than most of these toys 😂
