4:56 Switch OLED is $349. I can see the Switch 2 costing $399, but them keeping crossgen for a couple years with the Switch Lite at $199 or even finally seeing a permanent price drop towards $149 for the Switch Lite, while they work on a Switch 2 Lite for $249.
You know who never gets old? It's Mario. He will keep Nintendo relevant forever. Regardless of what age group plays video games the most. The most recognised video game character ever. Master Chief or Kratos simply can't compete with Mario.
Every entertainment company that originally produced their own continent, has shown a decline in profitability when pivoting to a subscription service (Music, TV, Movies etc.) Keep that in mind. Netflix started out as a rental/ streaming service, they had nothing to lose.
He’s actually right though. Devices people already own are getting pretty powerful now. Your phone in your pocket can run games like death stranding and remake resident evil 4. A subscription service will only open up access to a wider consumer base. I mean imagine an Xbox or Nintendo app on Samsung that has a bunch of native games for a monthly fee? I could see that making waves among the young crowd. No additional hardware to buy beyond something like a backbone.
@@RickyEnEspanol Imagine if Nintendo offered dedicated hardware that costs less than $5/mo over 8 years and lets you seamlessly play on the tv and doesn't drain your phone's battery and results in more polished enjoyable tactile experience. ON top of it they let you choose which games you want to purchase. And imagine if the physical games can be resold or traded in if you tire of them allowing you to recover a substantial portion of the purchase price. What kind of inroads could that make with a younger crowd?
Would it make more sense for Nintendo to make their own phones (or family friendly communication device) than just another mobile app in someone else’s ecosystem? 🤔
yeah except current yen to usd exchange helps take a lot of upward price pressure off. And there are levers they can pull to keep the price down. Make less money or lose more money on the hardware at launch. Sell the dock separate. Maybe the chips they are using are cheaper than they would have been had launched a year or so earlier.
Nintendo may be the reason smd thing to save it, im my opinion. Also, tarrifs will ot effect it as much as you think, due to Nintendo's willingness to partner with Limited run or any other manufacturers to make the carts here if need be.
Nintendo has great IP tho….they are far better positioned than Sony or Microsoft. Probably won’t do as well as the Switch, but it will be a solid console. Plus, it will allow people to play games from last generation on the go.
MK9 won't be a Switch title too. They've only done that sort of thing twice that I know of and both times it was Zelda and both times they had already announced and shown the game for the last-gen console so they couldn't skip it without reneging and upsetting customers. They want to sell their new console and they make a game that sells for 7 years not just 3 months. They don't think like the others on the other platforms. Metroid hasn't been a big seller but some think they will do the dual platform release for that game given they've announced it for Switch and showed some footage this year and given the release date is 2025 for MP4. I'm skeptical because it isn't a big seller so I don't think it would do much for the new system sales wise. But variables exist that could make that IP a good IP to show off the new system. However from what I saw of the footage it wasn't promising. Nintendo isn't going to do a cloud thing on mobile anytime soon. Not only aren't the controls there, but who pays for games on the mobile market? No one. And where does this magical $5 come from and what games does it include? Nintendo only spends money on this direction if they can't make the handheld console work any more. If they run out of ideas. Or they do it for old titles aka similar to their Switch online service content ...maybe attractive for non-1st world parts of the globe. But Nintendo wants to make money and doesn't want to cheapen their IP. They charge $4/mo for Switch online. And that's just NES/SNES content plus Genesis for the most part. And no middleman to pay. No cloud service to finance. N64 content and above costs more. Another reason to not cheapen the IP is they remake and remaster their old games. That's how they monetize some of the old stuff. Look at MP Remastered. Not a huge seller. But 20 some years later they monetize that with a remaster. Also not spreading themselves too thin keeps their IP more valuable. Golden Goose and all. It's the old Disney lock it in a vault and take it out every 7 years philosophy. You don't want to make people sick of your IP. Perhaps piracy would be a driver for them to provide a service on all platforms. AT least that way the pirates can't hide behind any faux-morale reason for pirating. PS: They are not doing BT to the tv. From what i know of BT it isn't the tool for the job. And the idea of supporting bt on all the tvs out there would be a nightmare. They could do wifi direct like they did with Wii U. But would require a more expensive dock. And what would be the point? IT would drain more battery life. YOu'd have to hold a the whole device not just a controller for tv play. The only appeal really would be for additional ways to play that would be fun in some cases. LIke they were with Nintendoland and Wii Party U on the Wii U. And that's a fairly limited benefit but if it can be done cheap enough... Although I think Nintendo would just address those ideas with multiple Switches. Super Mario Party Switch had a game mode that made use of dual screens.

The Switch 2 will be between $400-$500. No way would it be under $400. Are we acting like the last 4 years of inflation never happened? 😂
Only logical. Switch is super underpowered and it’s $300 so obviously a much more powerful handheld would be AT LEAST 400.
Pachter's belief in the gaming subscription model is absolute. Nothing else will work in his estimation. 🧐
He's a speculator, don't take it personally. I do think he's right though.

Next year’s tariffs are going to be incredibly destructive

Can't people already play games from last generation on the go? the original Switch isn't gone just because the new Switch comes out
