    Your review of the Rocket 3 is the best so far, if I buy one it’s because of your review you answered three of my questions. We already know it’s a Rocket!

    I have a Valkyrie (love it!) and it's insane to think of adding another LITER to the mix! Insane, but completely awesome though! Swooooon! A bit out of my price range new, but if there's ever a bike I'd want to follow up my Valk with, this is it. Incredible bike!
    And thanks for going over the differences between the 2 models. Very informative!

    An actual Touring model would be nice. All the torque would handle a bit more luggage set up just fine. imho

      Yeah having 19L on the pillion is all well and good but where does your passages sit if you use it? Two tiny panniers and a magnetic tank bag isn't great.

  • @ArmenianLifewithMitch
    @ArmenianLifewithMitch 5 років тому +5

    Nice presentation and very informative content. I really like this bike, but have to agree with you on the pillion seat. For a bike which can cruise effortlessly all day with a pillion, why do they ignore the comfort of the pillion? My guess is that the bike wouldn't look as stylish with a nice, wide and sensibly padded pillion seat. But wait, there'll probably be an optional extra in the future 'at who knows how much extra cash!' GT stands for Grand Touring, and I believe the passenger deserves the same comfort as the rider. Nevertheless, well done Triumph, you've created a truly unique motorcycle. Ride safe everyone. Regards, Mitch

    • @michaeltelemachus5112
      @michaeltelemachus5112 5 років тому

      As regards the seat, it is more about trying to copy the style of the Ducati XDiavel as Triumph know that it has been very successful and want to take some of the business from it. Unfortunately, although Triumph are very good now at building good quality machines they are lacking when it comes to being innovative and seem content to either copy old designs like the Bonneville or rip of more modern ones from current manufacturers. The original Rocket was innovative but that was a long time ago now. Having said all that, I'm sure that these new bikes are excellent as are most of their bikes..

    • @TheAegisClaw
      @TheAegisClaw 5 років тому +1

      I can't imagine it would be too much bother to get a custom pillion seat. Yes it should be better, particularly on the GT, but it's not a deal breaker.

    Excellent review. I ride a 2017 Road King and am 190cm. It has taken me a long time to get it comfortable for long tours. Rider backrest, hammock seat, luggage racks, pannier brake lights, Revo A rear shocks, taller slightly set back handle bars, front wind deflectors and a taller windscreen. I have it 95% perfect. And while the 2500cc of the Triumph really interests me. I couldn’t forgo all the comfort I get from the Road King.

    • @BikesILike
      @BikesILike  5 років тому +1

      Nice E Z. The Road king is also my pick in the Harley lineup. Your list of Road King accessories include a lot of the same that I would fit if I bought one. In particular the Hammock seat, rider backrest and lower wind deflectors. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. Did you fit the wind deflectors to reduce head buffeting and if so are they 100% effective? How many hours do you find you can spend in the hammock seat before things start getting uncomfortable? If you ride with a pillion do they find the hammock seat equally as comfortable? Many thanks.

    • @upup209
      @upup209 5 років тому

      Bikes I Like the Fangs as they are known reduce head buffeting significantly by pushing the air out to the sides that would normally rush in underneath to fill the vacuum left by the windshield. Clearview Windscreens in the US custom make shield for the Road King. Wider, taller , with 5 position mid shield vent, and with recursive deflection top that doesn’t spoil look or view through. About $500 USD including shipping to Australia.
      The Hammock seat is pure luxury for rider and pillion. I’m 120 kg and I can ride on it all day literally without ever being uncomfortable. But with a rider back rest, it does place you more forward in the seat where it is thinner, and you are fixed in place. Making it difficult to shift your weight. So on all day trips I use Kuryakyn Longhorns on the front crashbars to push back into the backrest to lift my arse off the seat completely. This every two hours is enough to ride all day

    • @upup209
      @upup209 5 років тому

      The Longhorns and the backrest are also great safeguards against hitting Kangaroos. Your legs will absorb the impact , as opposed to your gonads

    • @BikesILike
      @BikesILike  5 років тому +1

      @@upup209 Brilliant! Just what I need to know thank you. I bought a vented Clearview screen for my Vaquero but I stuffed up the measurements. I went through the whole measuring procedure exactly as specified by Clearview but being now unaccustomed to using imperial measurements (it's been years) I read 1'4'' on the tape measure as 14 inches. Consequently my Clearview screen arrived 2 inches too short and it feels like someone is urgently tapping on the top of my helmet. I contacted Clearview who were happy to make a new one but the cost of shipping it to them and back again was too bitter a pill to swallow. I'm now back to the lowered stock screen which gives clean smooth airflow but at the expense of helmet noise. I still have the Clearview in the box... That reminds me, I need to list that on Ebay.

    • @upup209
      @upup209 5 років тому +1

      Classic. Bikes I Like. So close yet so far. Two inches makes all the difference. I would like an extra inch on my screen to completely eliminate the buffeting when I have my visor up on my full face. It’s only when I have the visor locked closed that I have no buffeting. So I can’t really complain. We all have after market equipment and clothing stockpiled in our garage from trial and error purchases. The key is not to let the wife see it if you value your reputation as fiscally prudent.

    The GT model with its forward riding position will force the right leg of the rider to touch the hot exhaust pipe intimately and get burned, which is an unforeseen design flaw. The R model doesn't have this issue/concern with its upright seating position.

    Almost bought a Rocket 3 Tour till I found out I could not fit my lunch in a saddle bag and there were no other bags, top trunk, etc. available even as extra accessories! Dealerships are few and far between. I had a 96 Trophy 900, loved it, took it to 130,000 miles. Because of that we did get the wife a Legend, a BMW dealer in the area of Albany NY had them . Apparently Out of the 1.2 million people that live in this area Triumph has decided they do not want to sell them motorcycles, parts and/or apparel, I assume because they sell enough and do not need any more customers.!!!! The legend needed a part , I do my own maintenance on all my vehicles, So we went to the closest Triumph dealer ( he WOULD NOT SHIP PART) which was 90+ miles away. Wife sat on a 2016 America LT fit her like a glove, he had no more and could not get them, they were being discontinued!! Never heard of the bike before we went there. In 2017 found one on line, at a dealer in Boston MA. Left over, at a great deal. He was dropping the Triumph line going just Ducati. Seems he had enough, like the dealer in our area, and the one we went to in Syracuse NY 145 miles away. To many rules : you have to buy this many of these, stock this many of those, arrange your showroom this way, put parts in as we say, and have this much apparel, etc. They tried a Harley Dealer in the Albany area, ( I've also owned 3 of this brand). But her you were treated like a second class citizen when you asked about them or tried to purchase parts. Hard to believe Triumph did not last long there.
    They have GREAT STUFF just no place to purchase it. Especially to people unlike me that can not or do not want to do their own service.
    TRIUMPH WHERE ARE YOU?? WHY DO YOU MAKE IT NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO BUY YOUR PRODUCTS????????????????

      Yep I agree...I bought a 2014 speed triple r brand new and went back this year to see the new bikes and found out that the dealership got rid of triumph for Ducati because apparently triumph wanted too much floor space and were hard to work with and something else I forgot.... needless to say but I was bummed because the nearest for me was 90 miles away too. What gives with this company?

    I was thinking about buying a Vulcan Vaquero. How do you like it?

    • @BikesILike
      @BikesILike  5 років тому

      It's a great bike Chris but there are a couple of items I would change. The factory seat is not suitable for two up touring, I bought a Mustang seat with a backrest for rider and pillion, which is good for 4 hours in the saddle for me but my wife finds the pillion seat to be very uncomfortable, and after having a quick sit on it I agree. She uses an Airhawk if we go for a ride. If I keep the bike long term I will fit a Russell Day Long Seat day-long.com/ The other item I want to look at is the ECU. Kawasaki does some weird things with ignition timing which changes depending on what gear you're in and when the engine temperature rises above 50%. But there is a remedy that transforms the performance and general running of the motorcycle and that is an ECU re-tune by Ivan's Performance www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/vn1700.htm I've spoken to too many people who declare that it is an absolute must and looking at the list of fixes it hits all the marks of what annoys me about the Vulcan 1700's engine tuning. Check out Ivan's VN1700 page. I feel the Vaquero represents excellent value for money and I have no regrets buying it. When I compare it to a similar spec Harley (which is almost twice the price in Australia) I find it hard to imagine a Harley would be twice the bike. I'd recommend taking a Vaquero for a test ride, that's the only way you'll know if it's right for you. But if you do, keep in mind that 5th and 6th gears are both overdrive gears. In Australia our maximum speed limit is 110 kph or 70mph. As a result my bike rarely sees 6th gear, it's revving too low at that speed. Although it's an OD gear, 5th still has enough oomph for passing on the highway, but if you really want to get on it you'll need to drop it to 4th gear. The bike is happy in 6th gear at anything over 80mph which is better suited to US speed limits I believe. If you have anymore questions Chris ask away!

    Shares the same TFT as my ScramblerXE...that’s pretty awesome! I’m not sure I’d take the R3 over my XE but it’s beautiful!
