I NEED A SUNROOF!! Absolutely deal breaker for me I’ve never owned a car without one. The car i want atm don’t got one so i think i might have to do this just hoping the shop i bring it to is passionate about their craft n do a quality job.

I actually had a sunroof installed on my 2019 Kia Optima this past week and I love it! It was the first car I’ve had that didn’t have a sunroof. I’ve been on the fence for the last four years and finally did it. The sunroof is a Webasto Hollandia 300, installed by Top Coverage in the Chicago area. I say anyone who is interested in an aftermarket install should definitely do research and ask questions! I had a 2005 Pontiac G6 GT many years ago with the four panel panoramic sunroof (factory) and that thing was nothing but trouble-mostly electrical. And also, ensure you’re going to a reputable shop that uses high quality products. Webasto services many auto OEM’s so the quality is high!

Aftermarket sunroofs always had a bad rep for leaking over time. With the technology and things the way they are now there’s no reason if you get a good one it shouldn’t last. But I would say if the opportunity presents it’s just get it from the factory.

Sunroof leaks are bound to happen regardless of factory or aftermarket. It is the responsibility of the owner to keep lines cleared with proper maintenance.

My grandma got her sunroof added to her last call challenger for $700 at the landmark dodge in morrow. Idk if she got that price because she got the car from them. Lifetime warranty. I might go the same rout since I got my car from them

Nothing wrong with an aftermarket sunroof, but things have changed in the industry. A LOT.
Signature sunroofs, although half decent, are essentially non existent now.
They closed up shop in the US and switched production to Mexico. That in itself isn’t the issue, but major staffing changes there have made it where you can’t even get a response from them anymore when you need parts. Their website doesn’t exist anymore, sales are done through roadwire leather, and just generally leaves a feeling of them not being around much longer.
Webasto stopped production of the hollandia sunroofs line, which has now been purchased by champion auto systems out of the US.
They haven’t got the production line of the 700 series inbuilt quite up and running yet, but hold off and wait for those roofs to be back in production.
A 700 series roof is what you want. They are the maybach of aftermarket sunroofs lol
Beautiful fit and finish and very good quality!

@@joshb2812 Thank you for the insight. If you don’t mind me asking, how do you know all this information about Signature Sunroofs. Do you work for an aftermarket Sunroof installation shop? Why do you feel Webasto is better than Signature? I’ve been doing allot of research and Webasto is no longer in business doing aftermarket sunroofs only OEM auto manufacturers. I also know the owner of Champion which is a small company bought the line Hollandia 700 series like two or three years ago and they still don’t have their stuff together to start making the 700 series. I’ve talked to a guy at Champion and he told me he is the only worker doing everything running the machines to make 700 series, updating the Champion website info, answering phone calls and dealing with Restylers shops and etc. It sounds like Champion’s owner doesn’t have the manpower to actually make the 700 series. I don’t understand why won’t he hire people to run the machines and do other stuff instead of relying on one worker. Not only that, the more I think about Champion’s situation taking over the 700 series it is not going to be the same quality as when Webasto a huge company was making them. Also, when I compared Hollandia 700 series vs Signature series to me the Hollandia 700 series sunroof looks too much European style. Hollandia 700 series is shorter in size of there sunroof glass panel size vs the OEM Challenger. the sunvisor handle, the sunroof glass has felt material instead of rubber, the sunroof switch European style. To me the Hollandia 700 series looks more like it belongs to European cars like BMW, VW, Audi, Mercedes Benz etc etc. The Signature series looks more American style. Their sunroof glass size panel is closer to the size of the OEM Challenger, the sunvisor handle, the sunroof glass has rubber not felt, the sunroof switch etc etc. The Signature Sunroofs looks more like it belongs on American cars their sunroof style looks closer to the OEM Dodge Challenger sunroof. I just need to find out what happened to them because I just know that I talk to someone at Classic Soft Trim which they told me is the same company as Roadwire and also they told me they own Signature Series. They told me Signatures Sunroof website is down and there just waiting to get updated and be available again. Hopefully Roadwire will bing it back soon I just have to wait and see.

@@SIDVENOM I’m in the same boat as wanting to put a panoramic in a car I’m getting, but have been looking for a specific style and size with a bigger front opening. After learning about webasto doing only factory ones now for manufacturers, the next best thing is to get a roof off a car itself (salvaged yard) and there’s tons of them. That way you can still get a webasto or another high end one. Like if you check the roof off the caddy XT5 for example. And the cool thing is you can find them literally brand new with maybe 5000 miles or less, from a wrecked car for $300-400! Super super super cheap and complete.
I’m looking at getting one from a Subaru forester, they have been using the same model since around 2014 so it’s safe to say they’ve ruled out any past issues, and the foresters is the biggest single glass panel roof I’ve seen anywhere, it’s huge, it’s one piece not 2 like a normal panoramic but it’s a big one piece and it open up all the way too, I believe the size of the actual glass opening itself is around 32” x 34” or something like that, just nuts! Most sunroofs are around 34” x 21” or something. The downside is it opens “inside” the headliner so you need to account for that space there. I was at a Subaru dealer the other day looking at one and couldn’t believe how big the opening is.
You can even find nice panoramic off the ford f350 superduty trucks, whatever you do look for later model vehicles like 2020+ there’s tons of them, and I’d stick with Cadillac Escalade, xt5, navigator, Denali, etc if you want a big panoramic. Those vehicles are very expensive and more than likely have a higher quality roof I would imagine? Also they were flatter so can fit better in most flatter roof cars from what I’m seeing, and if you need a part like let’s say a seal or something they are readily available.

@@SIDVENOM sorry, I didn’t see this reply until now.
Installed webasto and signature sunroofs for many years up until they stopped making them.
From an installation point of view, the quality of the webasto units is definitely higher, and the fit and finish a lot better. Specifically, the headliner substrate. It’s gaps are most noticeable when installed in a vehicle with a light coloured headliner.
That’s not to say a signature sunroof is poor quality, but just not as “polished” as a webasto unit.
I agree with you 100 percent though, on your particular vehicle, a signature unit is a better choice. Signature roofs are quite flat, so in your car they fit beautifully.
Truthfully though, the best sunroof that webasto ever made was the solaire 4300/5300. It installed just like a signature does (none of the stupid panel bonding and rubber trim ring like the 700 sunroofs) but had a beautiful curvature that looked good in anything it was installed in, was whisper quiet, had flawless fit and finish for the headliner substrate and was dead reliable, never saw they for warranty claims like the 700’s or signatures.
Why they didn’t put those back into production is beyond me. So much simpler than the 700, and would have been FAR cheaper to manufacture

Am I one of the few that hate sunroofs? They are more maintenance, which most people don’t do, the drains have a tendency to clog if not always kept in a garage and it makes your roof weaker since they have one less crossmember to fit the sunroof in. Also, if you do get into a rollover, they will shatter sending glass all over. Just no thank you.
