      I'm totally sold on poodles, minis or big. No shed! My standard was incredible! I did my own grooming. Yes, a lot of work. It was peaceful quality time. Couple times we went to a professional groomer were not that much more expensive than any other long haired dogs.
      One interesting thing, he was a great judge of people. Out on a walk one day, he and I both really disliked the dad of 2 little girls he loved when they pet him. That guy gave us both creeps. No growls, just an attitude I could easily feel up the leash.
      Also, one summer nite 2 kids broke into my house - they were so quiet they did not wake me up. My standard went out and uninvited them. The kids left what they had grabbed and disappeared fast. You don't need to be aggressive if you're loud and firm!
      I made his grooming a 2 day project every 6 weeks. Day 1 was a thorough comb out & bath & dry. Then day 2 was the cut and careful trim ending with a nice kennel cut. Nothing fancy.
      I disagree with his miniature schnauzer. They are a lot of *specialized* grooming to stay shedless. A shave leaves a wonderfully soft fluffy coat that sheds. I had some lessons from a professional groomer. No thanks. And they tend to have a lot of attitude with strangers.
      I disagree with hairless dogs - and cats. They have issues with cold climates. (I'm in Cleveland) They need a warm house and sweaters or coats for outside wear when it's cold.
      About labradoodles or golden doodles... They are super great pets, but where are the responsible breeders? Around Ohio, these are from *Amish* (!!!) puppy mills or *backyard* breeders.
      There's no "science gone wrong." If carefully bred, they get the best qualities of two wonderful breeds. The labradoodle owner I met said they did shed, though not a lot.

    also a trainer here : any “doodle” breed isn’t guaranteed to not shed. mixing one shedding breed with a low shedding breed doesn’t always mean low shedding (yes, low shedding. poodles still shed, just not a lot). a lot of the doodles i’ve met and worked with have ranged from low shedding to shedding a ton. unless you want to play the genetic lottery with allergies, don’t get a mixed breed thinking it’ll be hypoallergenic.

      And unfortunately, far too many of them are not kept on proper grooming schedules, we're constantly finding mats on many of them, we have a few that look like mops, (at the point that they either need a shave down or their owners really need to step up the home coat maintenance if they want a longer coat.) And don't get me started on how nasty some of their beards are.

      Money, he gets a lot of doodle clients of course he has to validate them before anything else. Lagotto Romagnolo and Portuguese water dogs should have also been on this list instead of the first two, but of course they're more rare of breeds so he's less to get more of those clientele.
      People are far more likely to have Mini Schnauzers and doodles, statistically he's just saying it to make sure his bills get paid not for actual information. Shameful.

    • @m8mZ
      @m8mZ Рік тому +4

      @@nobodyyouknow7226sure what you said could be right, but it could also be that the first two are the dogs that most people buy. • @nobodyyouknow7226
      @nobodyyouknow7226 Рік тому +3

      @@m8mZ That's literally what I just said, that he's more likely to recommend breeds that people popularly own rather than the breeds that are actually hypoallergenic, and that are actually helpful to people with severe canine allergies such as myself.
      The list is about dogs who shed the very least, if you're going to make a video like that I'm not ridiculous for criticizing someone for not actually putting the dogs that shed the least inside the video. It is not actual credible information, especially the last two dog breeds he named, which are some of the worst for allergies. Trust me, I would know.
      It doesn't matter which breeds are popular or which ones more people are going to have. If someone is looking for a dog with the least amount of shedding, that's what you should talk about. Especially someone who prides themselves on dog training and "credible" K9 information the way this guy preaches, again, it's a way to virtue signal two more to more clientele.

    I’ve got a little Yorker and he’s fantastic! Kinda odd for a yorkie is that he doesn’t bark outside of play time (not even the at the door)
    He loves everyone and is incredibly patient with anyone besides large male puppies. He’s got the best recall of any dog I’ve ever seen. He’s got tons of energy so I can take him to hike and swim in a lake, he loves camping, and now that he’s almost 5 he’s got a lot more self control and can tell when it’s time to play and when it’s time to chill
    The only thing is that I could never get him to lay down reliably but that’s my fault since I didn’t put that much effort into that command.
    I truly think it’s the best of the tiny dogs if you have a family that likes to play and I’m glad I pushed for a Yorkie over a Maltese since I’ve found them on average to be way more fun dogs to have around

      FR, it's a mixed breed dog, there is no guarantee where the individual's coat is going to end up on the spectrum between poodle and whatever the hell you decided to cross them with today.
      Labs quite possibly shed the most of any short-furred breed I work with regularly, that is NOT the mix if you're looking for a low shed coat.

      Well this type of Doodle is from two sporting breeds. Also if this dog is under age two, that need for activity is at its peak. You are exactly right about needing exercise! A slow walk at human walking pace around a block isn't enough. Simulate hunting scenarios perhaps. Your dog will be so happy! Use a ball or bumper and hide it if your dog will scent search. Fun! Set up retrieving drills. Do an agility course. Just go places and let your dog enjoy smelling everything. But be safe in that case! Stick to places probably not urban (fentanyl, pesticides, herbicides could be present). A wilderness area maintained for wildlife should be okay. Know where you walk your dog. Be wary of neighbors possibly using herbicides. I didn't plan on writing this in this comment but it's a good safety measure! As well, be careful what water source you let your dog possibly swim in. Avoid water contaminated with blue-green algae. It is toxic to dogs. Okay my public service announcement is complete.

    Doodles are absolutely horrible for people with allergies. As someone with allergies and who actually knows what the word hypoallergenic means, I for one actually know what I'm talking about.
    As a dog trainer, he's only putting them on the list to keep from alienating his doodle clientele. One of the main supporters of his business.
    Edit:
    The Xoloitzcuintle probably one of the worst dog breeds you can get if you have an allergic condition that causes a reaction to dogs like me. That is a _terrible_ idea to get one purely based off of that fact that you might think they're hypoallergenic. Great dogs! But definitely _not_ hypoallergenic.

They are from a long line of working spaniels and have been trained to a medium high level without difficulty, one would even stop panting on comand when dear stalking. They can be cheeky as well and definitely need good walking every day so not for the inactive or those who don't keep the training current. They will also bark at house visitors until they are welcomed inside or told to stop

      it’s literally impossible to not byb a doodle, doodles are a designer breed and until the doodle breeders agree on a standard and breed to it, as well as do all the health and temperament testing for all the breeds they’re mixing, they’ll never be reputable breeders. byb is a catch all term for any breeder that isn’t a puppy mill but also isn’t a reputable breeder, which can include anything from accidental liters, people wanting to experience puppies, people looking to make money, people breeding mixed or designer breeds, or people just barely not meeting the standard of reputable breeding.
      i am a dog trainer and groomer, and while there are a lot of good dogs that are doodles, that doesn’t make the “breed” as a whole good. the very guy who popularized doodles regrets publicizing it heavily, since he realized that doodles would never work out genetically once you move past the first few generations, and you are never guaranteed a low shedding coat since genetics really are a lottery. on top of that, in my experience and in the experience of all the trainers and others working with dogs that i’ve met, doodles as a whole are some of the worst dogs to work with even when done “right”

      Yes but that coat! Honestly I really don't love that coat.I do not want to ever have to clip a coat again! Also other dogs really need to be socialized around Doodles. The Doodle coat can mistakenly trigger other dogs to think the Doodle is aggressive threatening solely due to the spiked high coat that looks all arched up to another dog. Other than that, I've come across several nicely behaved Doodles but this whole Doodle trend is getting out of hand. People are thoughtlessly breeding everything like Will this doodle? This just has to stop. Too many dogs. Too few responsible homes. But I do know several Doodles that are wonderful! I would not be surprised if I got one as a rescue. Way too many being produced.
