This, ladies and gentlemen, is how you make a final boss theme. The slow buildup representing the gathering of everyone's strength as they encourage you to stand back up, starting out as a subdued but strong tune to represent rising out of the pits of despair. And then that strength hits a climax, erupting in the triumphant battle cry of your entire army as you lead them, proclaiming to the very heavens that "THIS ENDS NOW!" It's the meaning behind it that takes Id (Purpose) beyond being just an epic final boss theme, and makes it one of my all-time favorites in gaming.
Maso-chan?... Is this you?... As a huge Xenoblade fan, here I was going through the always interesting comments on Chuggaaconroy's walkthrough, and who do I come across? You. It's quite the small world after all. Seriously, it was pretty weird. So yeah, just so you know I'm not stalking you. I got ban #3 on ZI. Just found it quite the coincidence to find you on Chuggaa's comments. *poof* I don't expect you to know I commented on this, as Google+ is usually a bitch.
Xenoblade's end had the same feel (ive played both games) but this song is amazing. The coolest thing is the song hit its climax when I landed the final blow with Lucina at my side.
ChaoticDarkShadow And we can't forget the brilliance of it being a remix of Robin's theme (which is also part of Id), for the ultimate book end effect. God, this song is so amazing.
This moment in the game... It felt so surreal. My first run in the game I managed to get all the possible supports unlocked, and at the exact moment Robin starts hearing the words of encouragement of the others, one by one, my excitement rose up incredibly. Couldn't believe such an epic momentum could be built by just a song and some lines of text. For a brief moment, it actually makes you believe you're fighting for the world's sake. This game rocks.
+figureLP09 For the price of an amazing composer, your game could also have an epic ending. OST available for the small price of twice that of the game it comes from.
Great comment! That summed up everything about how special the final chapter was in Awakening. I still get goosebumps when I get to it when I play through the game. Too bad Fates Conquest and Birthright tried to do the same thing but ended up feeling flat and soulless compared to this game.
[Avatar]: I can hear them... I can hear my friends! Grima: Stop this at once! Silence those wretched voices! You are all powerless! frail! Insignificant! You are NOOOTHING! Chrom: Return to us [Avatar]! Your bond with us is stronger than even the fell dragon's might! [Avatar]: Chrom! *pause* *smile* I'm coming, Chrom! Hold on!
This doesn't try to be epic for the sake of it. This becomes epic with every single word of encouragment and every tile we clear to get closer to the beast.
Chrom: Anything can change! Robin: Time to tip the scales! Lucina: I challenge my fate! Grima: DAMN YOU! Robin (as he’s about to kill Grima): Checkmate!
Saw a comment below telling how they killed Grima perfectly. I created a pathway of supports all the way to Grima and defeated him with the Book of Naga in Robin's hands.
Whenever I imagine Robin waking up I just see him saying something like "Chrom, I'll race you to the finish!" And Chroms all like" Alright I'll take you on" and they just run way ahead of everyone else. I did that on my playthrough of this part
+Knight Commander Shields speaking of running, if you don't use robin in the final battle s/he will still appear next to your other units. Then right before the battle begins s/he simply walks down towards the bottom of the screen pretty quickly. I don't know why i just found it funny
Can you still deal the last strike with Robin, if you didn't field him? I imagine him speeding from Grimas tail up to the neck, knocking everybody out of the way.
There's not one game that touched me like Fire Emblem did. It just goes straight to the feels ;_; I wish SSB players would stop judging the game only by their appearance in Smash and give FE a real chance... They are such masterpieces, they have to be coming from the same heads that programmed Zelda or Pokémon
@@kristenk2503 yeah, it's too bad :( The thing is, you need a lot of time to get to know Fire Emblem, I don't think you can start liking it within 5 minutes because the plot twists and getting to know and love the characters etc takes longer, but ofc there are many people that don't want to spend so much time on that :/
Lady Blake so true, people just hate fire emblem because theres 8 fighters in smash bros that are from FE. Its too bad that they dont want to look into how great of a game FE really is :/
I know the feel. I was beyond hyped to try out Fates and was enthralled by the build-up to picking a side. However, I felt that the story was shaky after that, and the writing always bothered me by seemingly incredibly modern, almost like it was from an action or comedy movie. The music was still beautiful, but I could never finish the game. Right now, I'm really enjoying 3H with it's strong world-building, characters, and better maps. Still, I don't think that I can ever find a game that made me feel the way Awakening did.
@@knightshade2654 I agree, Fates is not the best Fire Emblem game. I saw a meme once that said "Fates walked so Three Houses could run" and I think it's true, bc of Fates they knew what to do and what not to do in their upcoming games. Also Awakening was supposed to be the last game, but it was so successful that they continued the series, so it's only thanks to Awakening that we can play Three houses and listen to these amazing voice actors
Awakening's final map theme may not be the most bombastic or ambitious final map theme anymore. But damn, does it hit all the right places in all the right ways. And that's why it's still the GOAT over a decade later
aawakening or fates may not be the best in story, but my god the music team needs a raise. best soundtracks in the series. also Robin > Corrin? Anybody?
Is that any sort of competition worth mentioning? Corrin is the epitome of a marry-sue that feels like a really terrible OC. Basically the entire game is her having not a fucking clue about nothing but people (with the exception of the pineapple) just don't question her and just kinda go along with every whim she has. The support-corrin isn't much brighter either. After replaying Awakening i noticed, that Robin doesn't even say all that much till the Grima-Arc. He mentions a few things or answers when asked or cracks a little joke to brighten the mood, but that's it. Also the other Chars don't all go: Robin! Robin! Robin!! the entire time. He also develops throughout the story and people react very differently to him. In the supports he (yea, only talking about m!Robin now, bc haven't played female but i think she got different texts than male? Got told female is the sass-master par excellance) is supportive but also corrects people constructively and is not afraid to tell somebody that they're spoils of war and not a companion (Gangrel). Corrin would be like: you're my best buddy now!! It probably also helps, that he's doesn't have the mental capacity as a 5 year old. Also, what i probably like the most on Robin in comparison to Corrin; he's shown to have faults, negative things that actually impact him and his mental state and it shows. Corrin.. (besides the obvious lack of braincells that nobodys apparently notices) is shown to have only very basic faults that don't really matter. The story doesn't give her a need for support. Azura is there to guide the way, but that's all that there's to her. Robin relies heavily on Chrom for emotional stability and morale. Rant end, so yea.. Corrin is as interesting as unsalted bread with Mary-Sue-complex and Robin feels like a full fledged Person.
@@Aurirang Also, Corrin whines so much saying "Why did I decide to help king garon?" on conquest pathway. Especially when you find out at the beginning how evil Garon is, meaning there is no reason to want to help him, other than to keep Elise/Xander alive, and even then revelations exist, so you can have nearly everyone survive on revelations pathway. Whereas Birthright is just "Corrin, help us fight Garon who's clearly mad!"
@@SilverHunterN I completely forgot that i wrote this long ass rant about me disliking how Corrin was written. :D I could add a few lines about how Byleth is better than corrin in every aspect mostly because he does not have much of a character to speak of and actually gets shit done, but i'll spare you. The original rant was already long enough. But good to know that it's still valid. :D
Am I the only one who cried all the way through this chapter the first time I played it? It still makes me weep a bit now, and the game's five years old! Plus, the Avatar's final lines just solidifies the game's emotional ending. "May we meet again... In a better life..."
The nostalgia is hitting me hard, this makes me tear up a little admittedly. Awakening was my first fire emblem game. My best friend at the time was the one who suggested I pick this game up and she got me into the FE series as a whole. I remember being in a rough place almost a decade ago now with my parents divorcing and what not. This game really helped me get through that rough patch in my life. Ive since played every mainline entry in the series and while I do like some games from the franchise overall more than this one, Awakening will always hold a special place in my heart and it still remains one of my favorites to this day. It has its issues for sure and its definitely far from the most balanced game, but the brokenness and jank is what gives it its charm . The character supports and overall cast of characters to this day are some of the best in the series and while the story writing has its issues, people dont credit awakening enough for its character writing (Robin is still the best Avatar they've had in the series btw)
This music is epic! It reminds me if the first time I beat the game...Olivia literally murdered Grima in one turn...she was OP in my game..."STOP STARING!"
Taken from Art Strange's comment on another video... Translation & (Probable) Lyrics by yours truly: "Se vi avidum vivi no sat" "Your recent revival has not been enough" "Odi si vi a vi sol si lux qua vi solicitat" "For you still hate and dread the sun's light" "Te memoris vias itio lux qua vito via" "Avoiding the light to regain your memories, I cannot abide" "Fire Emblem a puros soc meto! Abolere vir a misit tua avara se!" ("O vires tantus vane est at en meto, satis volans vabzdys omni descen vi se no mica") "The Fire Emblem will harvest our pure strength and abolish your insatiable greed!" ("Oh, it is in vain: Even though the might you've harvested is formidable, no amount of strength will stop my wings from crushing you like insects") "Viso sat..." / "Vi so sat.." "I've seen enough..." / "Our might is enough" Note: I know some latin. I've been trying hard to write the lyrics down using this version since it's got so much better vocals. It's not perfect, and some liberties were taken with the interpretation. ... ((Not only was this comment pilfered from another video, but I myself snatched it from yet another. I'd like to see it on this video))
This is easily my favourite song in any game. It’s such an epic song for the final battle. The stakes are high, but id purpose also gives you the confidence to win
This song is a true Masterpiece, and honestly I'll go a step farther to say this is the best Endgame song out of any Fire emblem game (I've played- not counting games that came before Awakening.) for simply what it represents. Id : Purpose is not just a song about how the main character feels, them finally understanding the role they processed in this tale. But also the Motif that this battle isn't just you stopping a threat to end their world...but the series fighting to keep afloat and funded. The player represents the I.S team at work while Grima represents the failures and the demise of the series, ironic since Grima matches the Avatar's looks. Signaling that the failures are from I.S themselves, and they realize it themselves. The Fire Emblem Melody usage is meant to capture the feeling that the player gets from this game. Family, brothers-in-arms, everyone lock in a conflict where they must fight to the bitter end for peace. You are the Puppet master, YOU decided if your army lives or not...WE Decided who must die or live...and as such, we decided that Fire Emblem deserves to live.
Considering how well Awakening did, it truly brought life back into the series and propelled it to its now current incredible standing. Songs like this truly do well for stuff like this. I have the same feelings about this song as I do about some of the songs for Three Houses.
This game is in my opinion better than FE Fates. I understand not everyone will agree but from its music like this to the characters I say it tops Fates. However I still love Fates but something about FE Awakening made me play it 12 times to Fates' 4
remake awakening with the my castle, playable lodestar and vanguard class as well as maid and more interactivity with the other units and spouse AND POOF ya got the best FE game ever!
I got tired of fates, made new fe:a file, game was completed before, completed on normal/casual in 2-3 days. Honestly, i find awakening more appealing now.
There’s something about this game’s story and it’s final boss that just carried so much weight for me. I’ve never felt like more was at stake in any other game I’ve played, I was in it from beginning to end, and the final act of choosing to land the final blow with Chrom or Robin put so much on the line. I love it.
Bro I cannot imagine what my life would be like if awakening never blew up I wouldn’t have been introduced to the Fe series with fates and then later awakening.
My first time killing grima i had robin to weaken him with valflame, my strongest tome then, and when i saw he didn't kill grima i feared the worst, but then chrom goes "we are not done yet" And yeets the falchion at grima killing him
Ah, this get's me a bit emotional every time I hear it now...Even the soundtrack shows how truly special this game is. Honestly, I think it's my favorite ever. It's written so well and it's just epic. You can just feel the heart in it. That really shows here. Who else just loves Chrom's awesome dialogue during "Return"? Classic Chrom right there XD
I cried all the way through the final chapter, to be honest. It still pulls my heartstrings today, and the game's five years old! I just love Chrom's un-princely behaviour. The tough-but-emotional guy personality really works with him, and as you say, Chrom's dialogue during Return completely solidifies the Avatar's relationship with him. This game is arguably one of the best in the series, and the soundtrack (as well as the personalities of the many characters) is what made this game so special to me.
It's good to see people that people still love Awakening. It gets a little disheartening seeing people trash the game just because its not like the older Fire Emblem games. I adore this game with my whole heart and its nice to see that I'm not the only one.
While it maybe has some flaws story-whise and the balancing could have been better, it really is an outstanding game. I started playing with fe7 (played 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15) i gotta say it's still my favorite. (Although 7 comes very hard close, bc i adore the derp-trio that is Lyn, Eliwood and Hector xD) Stunning soundtrack, alot of new features, very memorable characters. Seriously nobody in there could have been described as bland. (Chrom probably comes close to it being the generic lord but even he has his quirks that i've grown to like) It's also playable for everybody, from being very easy on lowest difficulty, a challence on middle and downright sadistic on lunatic. It's also nice that you're not forced to use Robin at all, if you don't like, since Chrom is the actual main char. Did i mention the stunning soundtrack already? It's the greatest i've heard in a fire emblem game so far.
The buildup before the last battle is incredible, Awakening did a terrific job there. I love how similar is Robin's storyline to the story of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, anyone who played both games will know what I mean.
Ikr? This theme coming in at that part and Chrom's dialogue at this part NEVER fails to get me pumped! It's awesome, and even since beating the game for the first time it gets me a bit emotional...*wipes away tear* lol
Fun Fact: The chanting that is heard when the "Fire Emblem Main Theme" kicks in are actually the Latin lyrics that were created for the remix in "Super Smash Bros. Brawl". Neat Eastern Egg.
I will never forget the first time I played this game and was introduced to fire emblem. I was 12, almost 13. In fact soon it will have been 3 years since I started playing these games. This moment felt so surreal. I never thought a game would have that much impact on me in just one moment. I had realised I was fighting not just for the sake of Yilese but for the entire world.
Valadar:yes morgan ... Now kill him and take your fathers place and become the new grima (Morgan looked at her father, she saw a ressonance of herself when robin defeated her of there first encounter and if she killed her she will be worse than he is now.) Morgan:no I'll never be the new vessle of grima. Your plans have failed, im a tactician just like my farher.
I used to listen Id Hope in Smash before I played Awakening, I have the complete soundtrack of both games... but a week ago, in my fight against Grima, i realized that this music is a thousand times better in the game, in an epic final battle. Now i can't help me getting hyped every single time i listen this wonderful theme. "I'm coming, Chrom! Hold on!" Perfect
Taking into account this song was going to be the last final boss theme for any Fire Emblem game makes it even more powerful, especially with the FE main theme playing through the whole climax! You can feel how melancholic and tragic it is, the composers gave it their absolute all.
Smash fandom: complains that there are too many fire emblem characters. Also smash fandom: demands Roy and chrom as lugified Marth/Ike echoes. Seriously, Make up your mind guys 😑
when I figthing in the final I feel very exiciting and nostalgic, the song is very important for me because the song help me in all my thing I love fire emblem awakening:')
All right, comments, what do you think is the absolute perfect crit quote to end the game with? Is it, well, any of Robin’s? “I challenge my fate!” from Lucina? “Anything can change!” from Chrom? Or maybe that one Freddy quote that we all know so well, or perhaps something else?
I agree. I think End of Sky/Land/Below was a very poor piece of music that was just a bad way of continuing Azura's song to the end, whilst Id (Purpose) was the icing on top of the beautifully baked cake. The quality most definitely slipped in Fates.
Oh my god????!?! Ive NEVER heard the full full beginning to this and i cried as soon as it went into the popular theme omg...god this game holds such a special place in my heart ...ugh

MasoGamer just to add to that, how Naga says "Now, children of man, rise now! and face the fell dragon!"
I appreciate the Kevin-made Jim Pickens pfp

Can you still deal the last strike with Robin, if you didn't field him? I imagine him speeding from Grimas tail up to the neck, knocking everybody out of the way.
There's not one game that touched me like Fire Emblem did. It just goes straight to the feels ;_;
I wish SSB players would stop judging the game only by their appearance in Smash and give FE a real chance... They are such masterpieces, they have to be coming from the same heads that programmed Zelda or Pokémon
Absolutely agree with you about the SSB players. As a fellow smash bros player i hate getting trashed on for liking fire emblem xD
Anybody?
Corrin is as deep as a peace of bread. Of course Robin is better.
I dont think anyone argues robin is just overall better a character
@@Aurirang Also, Corrin whines so much saying "Why did I decide to help king garon?" on conquest pathway. Especially when you find out at the beginning how evil Garon is, meaning there is no reason to want to help him, other than to keep Elise/Xander alive, and even then revelations exist, so you can have nearly everyone survive on revelations pathway. Whereas Birthright is just "Corrin, help us fight Garon who's clearly mad!"
@@SilverHunterN I completely forgot that i wrote this long ass rant about me disliking how Corrin was written. :D
I could add a few lines about how Byleth is better than corrin in every aspect mostly because he does not have much of a character to speak of and actually gets shit done, but i'll spare you.
*"Fight back! You have to keep fighting! Fight back, Robin! You swore to do so, remember? Now keep your damn word!”*
They could literally have been the same song, that transition is so smooth...
It made it funnier for me because she was my wife in my first playthrough
She was killing a perverted deity. Now if only she could execute Zeus.

Godspeed
This is easily my favourite song in any game. It’s such an epic song for the final battle. The stakes are high, but id purpose also gives you the confidence to win
This song is a true Masterpiece, and honestly I'll go a step farther to say this is the best Endgame song out of any Fire emblem game (I've played- not counting games that came before Awakening.)
for simply what it represents.
*HUMMING INTENSIFIES*
Haha, same here!
I'm so glad this song is in the new Smash.
A shame theirs is shortened, not as much buildup
Dualblades47 I think, the WiiU have the normal version.

Nah, both versions have the shortened version unfortunately.
Hope we can get the full version in Smash Ultimate...
@@ShnowCompany nope but we got a nice remix
This game is in my opinion better than FE Fates. I understand not everyone will agree but from its music like this to the characters I say it tops Fates. However I still love Fates but something about FE Awakening made me play it 12 times to Fates' 4
Agreed.
remake awakening with the my castle, playable lodestar and vanguard class as well as maid and more interactivity with the other units and spouse AND POOF ya got the best FE game ever!
Awakening will always be one of my favorite games, Fates was okay but not that great.
I got tired of fates, made new fe:a file, game was completed before, completed on normal/casual in 2-3 days. Honestly, i find awakening more appealing now.
+Adanis Chairez Indeed.
Idk how its possible for a song to make me feel so many emotions at once.
There’s something about this game’s story and it’s final boss that just carried so much weight for me. I’ve never felt like more was at stake in any other game I’ve played, I was in it from beginning to end, and the final act of choosing to land the final blow with Chrom or Robin put so much on the line.
I love it.
Happy 10 years Awakening, thank you for everything you’ve given us.
Bro I cannot imagine what my life would be like if awakening never blew up
I wouldn’t have been introduced to the Fe series with fates and then later awakening.
This game is an genuine masterpiece. Without doubts the most outstanding I have ever played.
They honor me with their fights
These are promising days, oh, mighty Hero-King...
Promising days, indeed.

I've played through Fire Emblem Awakening twice now. The final chapter has always been amazing for me.
Ikr? This theme coming in at that part and Chrom's dialogue at this part NEVER fails to get me pumped! It's awesome, and even since beating the game for the first time it gets me a bit emotional...*wipes away tear* lol

Podría decir que casi lloro en esa batalla final, la música transmite un sentimiento enorme, y lo mejor es que mi Avatar termino matando a Grima la primera vez que lo jugué con un crítico, simplemente épico

The final boss song, of the game that would have been the last
This is THE song of Awakening
Fun Fact: The chanting that is heard when the "Fire Emblem Main Theme" kicks in are actually the Latin lyrics that were created for the remix in "Super Smash Bros. Brawl". Neat Eastern Egg.
I will never forget the first time I played this game and was introduced to fire emblem. I was 12, almost 13. In fact soon it will have been 3 years since I started playing these games. This moment felt so surreal. I never thought a game would have that much impact on me in just one moment. I had realised I was fighting not just for the sake of Yilese but for the entire world.
Undoubtedly, the best track in the Fire Emblem series.
3:48 The chills.
Valadar:yes morgan ... Now kill him and take your fathers place and become the new grima

Time to tip the scales!
I prefer this over End of Sky/Land/Below, this screams pure epicness.
I agree. I think End of Sky/Land/Below was a very poor piece of music that was just a bad way of continuing Azura's song to the end, whilst Id (Purpose) was the icing on top of the beautifully baked cake. The quality most definitely slipped in Fates.
