Can I point out this is silque's voice actor singing this song. Mila'a most devoted servant preaching about her as she was. That makes me want to cry actually
This is one of the best English versions in JRPG history imo. The writer Brian Gray accomplished the immensely difficult task of simultaneously: -Writing natural ballad-like English -Making it singable to the rhythm of the Japanese instrumental without sounding stilted -Staying true to the themes of the original in lyrical content The singer Bonnie Gordon then brought it to life spectacularly. Major props to them both!
You're right. In a way the translators/writers have an even harder job than the original composers because of precisely those hurdles which might make it sound unnatural and is usually why dubs are worse than the original.
My first fire emblem game was Shadows of Valentia, and I was just SO surprised by the old English the characters spoke, that I still wonder if there are any other dubbed games with this kind of English. Are there?
What makes this song really beautiful is that it sounds like a mother desperetly trying to protect her children, but fails, although she knows her children will rise even without her and she'll be with them after death. A mothers love will always be the ultimate protection.
I really feel sorry for Mila the entire time playing Echoes. She is loving and caring mother, wishing the best for her human children. At the same time, she always love Duma. She could not bring herself to let anyone use the Falchion until the very end, despite what he had done to her and their timeless dispute. Her love may prevent her from seeing that Valentian people have grown selfish, and her brother needs to be stopped, but that is the reason why I love her more. She is like an overprotective mother who finally goes down and lets her children decide their own fate while sacrificing her own life to pave the way for their future.
@Kayla Barco In Fate Awakening, there is a map called Mila Tree, when you have to fight on the trunk of a giant tree to meet Tiki on the top. This tree is mentioned at the end of Echo by Celica. Mila Tree actually includes two trees, interwining with each other and growing on top of Mila and Duma's graves. But people of Valm have forgotten about Duma.
John Schade I almost cried because on my first playthrough Zeke and Palla died during the final battle so I had to read the depressing endings for Tatiana Catria and est with this playing in the background.
When the genealogy remake inevitably comes out, I'm willing to bet that it's gonna have its own theme like Heritors of Arcadia and it's gonna be either Deirdre or Julia singing it. Or maybe they'll both sing it in their respective parts.
It’s gonna be Lewyn. Only character with a major role in both parts, and literally starts out in the Bard class. Probably going to be some sort of duet between Lewyn himself and Forseti, that would be pretty hype. Maybe if they make Lewyn/Erinys fully canon Ced will have a part in it too. That would kinda suck though because Forseti Arthur is amazing.
I just realized... "When my name is lost to the grave" isn't Mila... Both Duma and Mila have the ability to see the future... Valm clearly is trying to cast aside ties to Duma with Duma's Corpse being the badlands (it was localized as Demon's Ingle instead of Duma's Corpse.) That's Duma speaking, knowing that, eventually, history will forget him while Mila's memorialized with a tree...
@@lucyburns4379 how so? Also i read on the fire emblem wiki that mila's tree is actually two entwined trees which is for both mila and duma rather than just mila like the name implies

@@PhoenixBlazer39 Not to mention personal and meaningful. Lost in thoughts sounds like it's trying to sell you on Fates' main gimmick when both of these songs tie directly to the characters and story regardless of your perspective.
Hearing this song at the end of the game while reading what happened to Sonya after the game tore my heart. Her sisters souls were sacrificed to Duma and then became witches, both whom you fight against while fighting Duma. Then her fate ends up just like her sisters, ending up a witch that inhabits Nuibaba’s Lair. She wanted to get revenge for her sisters which is seen if you fight her against Jeddah. She was the one you saved, she got another chance of life and fought to unite Valentia and for her own goals, only for her to end up life her sisters who she wanted save
I don’t know if this helps, but those are just rumors, not to mention Sonya has rewarp in her spell list, so the villagers possibly comfused her for an actual witch or she discovered a new kind of witchdom, one doesn’t take ones soul away.
Noooo I don’t think she could become the same type of witch that her sisters became, instead I think she became the first person to become a witch without the consequences of sacrificing your soul and free will.
My interpretation is that she took in witches to help, we know they aren't just evil, and helped them out in the 1 place she knew, but didn't actually become a witch herself.

Something about the background with mila and falchion piercing her head: This thing is human size actually, but to me it looks like a giant dragon head with a giant sword
Little late, but there's an oddly heartwarming moment hidden in this song. Mila sings about how she'll watch over her children and keep them strong "Even when my name has been lost to the grave"...but Awakening's Mila tree proves that even hundreds of years later, her children never forgot about her. @@theholyman3275 The first fire emblem game I played was like a year ago when I first added this song to my "motivation" playlist I listen to to smash out projects fast. But now I have played 2 of the games (lol) hoping to play all of them eventually!!
Every time I listen to this song, I feel a deep sense of nostalgia for my late mother. Mila’s compassion and sorrow resonate with me. I feel a touch of loneliness, but also love.
4 years ago on my Birthday I picked this game up for the first time. 4 years ago I discovered just how beautiful Fire Emblem stories could be. And at the end of the journey... Being treated to this song actually made me cry. 4 years later, here I am once again. Tearing up over how beautiful this song and game is. And how much this game meant to me as the second fire emblem game I ever played. This game is beautiful, and I couldn't reccomend it more as a game to play... After being introduced to the series with games like Engage or Awakening, or even FE7.
i know it's stupid of me to even connect the two events in mind by this song just hits very different after my mom's passing idk, it just feels very different now
i have made my annual return to this song, it is time to choke up again my friends ive finally realized why it makes me think of her, many of it's lyrics feel like thinks she had or would have said to me she wouldn't want me to stay stuck in my sadness, she'd want me to keep moving and celebrate the person she was and carry what i learned from her with me
This song always makes me tear up a bit. I'm a sucker for parent-child tropes and stories, and the lyrics of this one make me imagine a mother sacrificing everything for her children. "And when I am gone, just ash in the wind - one life surrendered so yours can begin."
this never fails to give me full body chills multiple times. though like a year ago i would have said it never fails to make me tear up, sadly that doesn't happen anymore.
Anyone else notice the fact that every few words she says is in time perfectly with the drums Like “anthem” “listen” and stuff like that, idk I just found it interesting and well timed it it was planned, cause it fits the tempo so well and only adds more oomph to the words.
Highly recommend watching a story playthrough at least if you can’t play it yourself. It’s Fire Emblems greatest story imo right next to FE6-7, FE8 and Telius
That last pair of choruses are beautiful. They touch the heart in a special way, and can very easily bring tears to my eyes if I'm not distracted by something else while listening. Wonderful lyrics, wonderful voice.
I never even played the game RIP. I just saw this in my recommended for all the FE3H songs I listen too. HOWEVER, this has become a beloved song and one I now listen to a lot. One of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard
This is the most beautiful song 🎵 I’ve ever heard in my life!!!!! I love 💗 all the Fire Emblem games, especially the characters and songs 🎶!!! Thank you 😊 for the song.
If you were to think of this song as being from the perspective of the dead soldiers who fought in the Deliverance and Rigelian army speaking to Valentia’s future generations, it’s serious emotional damage. (yes I know it’s Milas perspective but still)
Some of the lyrics apply to Duma too, like the “my name lost to the grave” line isn’t about Mila; both Mila and Duma have some ability to see into the future, so Duma would know that his resting place would be known as the Demon’s Ingle as opposed to Mila, who’s name lived on with the Mila Tree

Have a nice day:3
I'm sitting in the back seat listening to this and I'm trying not to cry. I love this song
You know it's a perfect song when it literally makes a grown man cry.
This makes me want to play SoV again. It's one of my favourite songs in the franchise, along with Don't Speak Her Name from Awakening
I absolutely love both this song and this game. Bonnie Gordon did an incredible job singing this.
As a Native American this song means a lot to me because I have felt the same way.
I think the woman who voiced Silque did this. I may be thinking of the Japanese version.
Yes, the English voice actor for Silque (Bonnie Gordon) also did vocals for this song
now i wonder what they would sound like singing life returns or lost in thoughts all alone
Thanks, random song recommendation, for getting me into Fire Emblem!
You haven't played the game yet??
@@theholyman3275 The first fire emblem game I played was like a year ago when I first added this song to my "motivation" playlist I listen to to smash out projects fast. But now I have played 2 of the games (lol) hoping to play all of them eventually!!
@@lighthouse6543 ok bro. I'd recommend awakening, fates , 3 houses
@@theholyman3275 I'm on three houses rn. thansk for the recs!!
This game was a masterclass in storytelling and updating a story for a modern audience. My 2nd favorite game of all time
Definitely my favorite in the series by now! By the way, what's your favorite?
How is it second?

Take me back to 2017 bro...... take me back now
Me too bro playing overwatch waiting for need for speed payback and gt sport
i know it's stupid of me to even connect the two events in mind by this song just hits very different after my mom's passing
idk, it just
feels very different now
making small connections like that aint stupid, a lot of people have songs like that
i understand bro
i have made my annual return to this song, it is time to choke up again my friends
ive finally realized why it makes me think of her, many of it's lyrics feel like thinks she had or would have said to me
she wouldn't want me to stay stuck in my sadness, she'd want me to keep moving and celebrate the person she was and carry what i learned from her with me
I would like to thank this person for the time he took to make the lyrics for this song
If this doesn't play at my funeral I'll climb out of Hell myself
This song always makes me tear up a bit. I'm a sucker for parent-child tropes and stories, and the lyrics of this one make me imagine a mother sacrificing everything for her children.
"And when I am gone, just ash in the wind - one life surrendered so yours can begin."
0:40 got me shivering
this never fails to give me full body chills multiple times. though like a year ago i would have said it never fails to make me tear up, sadly that doesn't happen anymore.
I'm crying... Why I am I crying so damn hard?
"And though I am gone, just ash in the wind. One life surrendered so yours can begin"
Anyone else notice the fact that every few words she says is in time perfectly with the drums
Like “anthem” “listen” and stuff like that, idk I just found it interesting and well timed it it was planned, cause it fits the tempo so well and only adds more oomph to the words.
I never played this game but the line "one life surrendered so yours can begin" is just awful sad
Highly recommend watching a story playthrough at least if you can’t play it yourself. It’s Fire Emblems greatest story imo right next to FE6-7, FE8 and Telius
@@liamwilson7549 thanks fam i'll do it instead while chilling

Is It true that silque's voice voiced this gift from the gods ?
Yes, its it
That last pair of choruses are beautiful.
One of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard
a year later and this just came back into my recommended, still a great song wow
@@strwberylemonade Did you play the game by now? If you did, you might appreciate it even more.
this song is still my favorite thing ive heard-
Thanks for making the lyrics! I never found the lyrics anywhere else on Fire Emblem channels :)
Actually prefer the english version vs the japanese, wow.
Oh god this is so GOOD im addicted once again
After years I’m still listening to this~
Nice I was looking for this.
This is the most beautiful song 🎵 I’ve ever heard in my life!!!!! I love 💗 all the Fire Emblem games, especially the characters and songs 🎶!!! Thank you 😊 for the song.
Congrats on a million!
This is such a good song
....ok WHO IS THAT ONE DISLIKE. It really disturbs me.... - _ -
LoL
Most Likely Jedah. Lmao
That makes sense. lol
Nissi Greer Lololol it really does make sense XD
I bet its jedah
A thousand years later, the Mila Tree is still in Valm. Her name was never lost to the grave after all.
Duma on the other hand.....
If you were to think of this song as being from the perspective of the dead soldiers who fought in the Deliverance and Rigelian army speaking to Valentia’s future generations, it’s serious emotional damage. (yes I know it’s Milas perspective but still)
I always see it as Mila's perspective but sung through one of her priestess
Man, I love hearing the other tracks this game pulls from. The overworld music from the Rigel parts, and Alm's "What Lies at the End". It's so good
When you sing better than Azura
Stick beautiful but she can’t relate
*Azura wants to know your location*
@@neonvalve It's a shame her song killed her

i really feel in peace with this song, so epic and beautiful. Long life to the Earth Mother.!
Thank you for doing this
Once a year I come back to this song, and enjoy it, forget it and repeat.
A song like this brings so emotion it's amazing.
It’s at times like this I love tap battle. That’s how I discovered this beautiful song
Guess I wasnt the only one that came here from tap battles. Haha!
So this plays in the character endings, yes? I already know that this song will touch my soul and make me saaadddd when I play and finish the game.
Mother would be so proud!
Finally reaching this song after beating that tough final map with no deaths felt great
This song is so beautiful
I don't know why, but I just can't stop to imagine this song with RWBY where Jaune become a fairy tail king with the remain people of remant.
Now let’s just hope a Geneology Remake has a song this beautiful sang from Diedre’s perspective
I haven't been played this game and this song hit me hard
i listen to a lot of fucking music so i don't mean this lightly when i say this is the best song i have ever heard
still true. i actually cry a little when i hear this every time even now
Ya know, I feel like this song could just as easily be about Sothis as it is about Mila...
Yes
i dont see it really. sothis is to much of a debatable villain for this song in my opinion.
@@projectmessiah ...How is Sothis even remotely a villain?
@@GoldLight73 sorry, just realised i mixed Sophis up with rhea. i swear ive played this game 4 times and it was my favourite game by far last year. i spent to long on my original reply so you can see it below if you want.
you played crimson flower right? im not stating Sophis is an outright evil person but she isn't exactly as benevolent as the first thing that comes to mind when you think kind and caring.
I'm speechless.
