    Thanks for this - we are Ecamm users now and it is working like a charm. An important note about the PTZOptics cam though, especially if you're going to mount it in your church: the remote that comes with the camera is essentially USELESS. It is, believe it or not, infrared, like the old TV remotes, not RF. That means in order to get it to work, you have to stand in front of the camera and point it at the sensor. I guess the manufacturers didn't consider the fact that if you're standing in front of the camera, you're ON camera. Unless you're okay with sitting next to the minister onstage and on camera while they're speaking so you can zoom, tilt, and pan, you'll have to create an ethernet network and connect to the camera from your computer that way (PC folk have an rs232 option as well-we're mac folks.) We made the mistake of hiring a contractor to mount the camera on the ceiling of our church and run hdmi cable from the camera to our booth-and now, though our camera is only 35 feet away, we can't control it. We have to call our contractor back now and have him drag ethernet cable through the ceiling instead (read time delay and added expense.) I didn't see the necessity of creating a network for just one computer and one camera-don't make the same mistake!

    I use the EVGA XR1 lite instead of the AJA U-Tamp. It is 1/4 the price and has worked very well for me so far. We are getting to the point where a lot of the no-name cheaper ones on Amazon are decent as well, but they are hard to recommend since they change so much. I gave a $20 no-name unit to a nephew for Switch streaming, and it just worked. The main thing to look for in those is UVC support.

    HELP!
    we are using a M32 to OBS for live stream. But what I’m hoping to do is bring the signal from the M32 house mix into Ableton so I can have my own separate mix. Currently I have to keep telling the person running house sound to give me a little more for the guitar, bass, piano or hey let’s add more reverb/delay to the lead vocal for an example.
    So what I would like to have is where I can add and do what I want in Ableton.
    I’ve heard of other churches doing this but can’t seem to get how they do it.
    So far I got all signals coming into Ableton and going into OBS using blackhole, I can add effects and hear them in my headphone, but the live stream still comes out dry.
    I can’t get the effects into the stream.
    Help please 😅 🙏🏽

    I wanted to drop you a note to say thank you for this video. My church has wanted to stream services for a while now. With the current circumstances what they are, it pushed this project to the forefront. I'm a geek of sorts and have dabbled in A/V but have stayed in the shallow end of the A/V pool. This video gave me the confidence to wade into the deeper end. I'm not sure I would have been able to convince myself to make the jump on the PTZOptics camera on my own. While we gathered equipment, I started streaming services with a iPad and migrated to my phone as it was better quality. We've since got the PTZOptics w/ NDI HX in place running vMix and now have the audio tied into the overall audio system. The transition was a night and day moment in the quality of the offering for my church. I continue to learn more about vMix with plans to evolve the stream content as we go. We continue to grow in the number of parishioners that are now joining live on a daily basis. The ability to connect in this way when they can't in person means so much to them. I can't thank you enough for this gift. God Bless.

    The fact that the PTZ camera comes with USB output it's great, so the HDMI, POE and SDI video output. The problem is most of the churches will use more than one of these and they will be pretty far from the computer so you won't be able to use the USB or HDMI video output since these will only work with short distance cables. So HDMI and USB video output will be useless, the only remaining option for long distance video connection is the 3g-SDi and POE and you will need a 3g-SDi to USB adaptor or I guess POE to USB

    Great video. I'm a believer in OBS and it's various variants because they work well and are free (and regularly developed since open source). I would encourage you to check out Streamlabs OBS variant as it's much more polished than OBS studio. It can get some pretty professional results with little effort. Pair that with a service like restream.io and you can stream to lots of platforms simultaneously. It works amazingly for gamers, so I'm sure it would work well for churches, as well. All that to say, I think you gave a lot of good info for folks looking to start expanding their Church outreach for whatever reason. Any way to get the Gospel out there is better than not, right? 😊

      I used OBS for years in both a personal and professional environment with a lot of success. However, since switching to vMix, I can tell a noticable difference in stability, optimization, and quality. They aren't really worth comparing, because vMix is superior in every aspect - at a premium cost. So it really comes down to budget. I recommend OBS to clients all the time, but I definitely make it clear that it is inferior to vMix for professional use.

    My church uses Inear monitoring, electronic drums, when the mixer is far from stage, the stage sound doesn’t affect the public access sound, so for stream we could nearly do the same mix. Only difference, less conservative pan settings and possibly less effect return on the stream.
    At the moment we use our Café and I use headphones, not easy, but by listening the recorded stream I could develop an understanding how it has to sound under headphones to be correctly

      Was my former church. My actual church has no sound man beside me, so we have the issue, that the balance between instruments and vocals is always wrong, sometimes the vocals are too loud, sometimes they are hardly audible. I play keyboard and lead the band and its singing and can't set it properly. When the vocalists complained, they aren't audible, I set them high, when I noticed, the music is drown, I set them lower.

    For our audio we added a choir mic on stage that does not go into the main (amplified) mix. It only goes to an aux out mix with the other audio sources for video. Otherwise there is complete silence when no mics are amplified or nobody is near a mic. Modest background noise is good.

    Current street price (Dec 2020) on the PTZ Optics 20x is down to about $1600. Also, though it's kind of kludgy, the PTZ Optics camera is capable of live streaming directly from the camera to a network via it's ethernet port. Still have to log into the camera's web interface to set it up, but it doesn't need to pass through a computer. A bare bones way of doing things, but it could get you up in running to start.

      Also, on a single camera setup, it might make sense to run your audio directly into your camera. It will take some adapting, and some care with levels. But, it will eliminate the latency issues that are visible in this demonstration.

    PTZ's are awesome but super expensive. We have one of the cannons he mentioned, I would not recommend it. It is not very clear and does not do well in low light. Our other camera is a Panasonic v770 and it is much clearer. You can find them for around $100 more than the cannon if you look hard. We use a Blackmagic ATM mini which I highly recommend. It supports up to 4 camera's via HDMI in USB output and it will also support audio in. We route our microphone system right into the ATM Mini and then into OBS. Super simple setup that will run you $600-$800 dollars. Check out some of our live streams and you can see the differences between the 2 cameras.

    For People wanting to permanently mount cameras its definitely worth looking into the laws in your area as there might be laws surrounding it, I know there are in Sweden.
    Haven't used the m32 so this might not ve possible, but wouldn't it be easier to just send the same mix he sent to the interface straight to the computer via USB?
    This would lower the setup time, remove things that could go wrong and just give a cleaner desk.
    Mainly been working with Allen and Heath desk so things might not work the same

  • @TroyNahrwold
    @TroyNahrwold 6 років тому +12

    What??? What!!! Did Jake just say that having a PC is better for something?!?!?! Hahahaha
    As for capture devices, I've always liked BlackMagic Design myself. They're professional grade (several of the latest movies you've watched were probably filmed with their gear) , and surprisingly, their entry level models are fairly inexpensive. IMHO perfect for churches.
    For those that are using a desktop to stream instead of a laptop, you can get a BlackMagic Design capture card at Amazon for $199. This card can capture at up to 4k and includes an output for an HDMI capture monitor - www.amazon.com/dp/B00U3QNP7Q
    BlackMagic Design also makes an external interface for laptops, which records at 1080p FHD for $145. But this interface is Thunderbolt ONLY. Better throughput for less skipped frames, but just make sure you've got the right input. www.amazon.com/dp/B009D91314/
    And as for audio out... You don't necessarily need an audio capture device if you choose to use a camcorder with a capture device. We just take the output from our X32 video mix into the camcorder's Mic-In port.
    Oh... and you know the tech guy does use OBS... 😁

      You know I'm always here to speak up for the PC crowd! As always, love the content. This should be a good series. We only live stream certain events (Like when we have to cancel church for snow, we do a special live stream), and I've seen both your video and Brady's. I think we could reach a larger crowd through live stream, but our lead pastor thinks we're not quite ready for it yet. We've got to make sure that we can convey our church's message properly through the stream. I guess we're just uploading our recorded messages on UA-cam for a while still.
      Also... any thoughts on the idea that live streaming keeps people from coming to church?

    FYI....I spoke with an audio engineer and because you would be using a digital board there is no need for the interface. I purchased the Behringerx-32 digital mixing board and it has the interface built-in option on the back.

  • @lorrainamosko4659
    @lorrainamosko4659 4 роки тому +1

    Your video is very helpful especially for a small church. When you mentioned an xlr out of the m32r into the Behringer for a unique mix, what if you still use an analog board? Trying to understand how you can mix multiple channels with just one xlr out and if you use headphones to mix won't that effect the house mix? We technically right now don't want to do the live stream part but record to post later, but want to plan for the live stream part in the future so this is good info. Goal is to figure out the best way on a small church budget to get a good video recording with a decent audio mix. We already record using a 2 channel maudio that captures the full house mix out of our board, which isn't bad most times but as you said isn't always ideal.

    • @BuildOrBuy
      @BuildOrBuy 4 роки тому +1

      The XLR out from main board would be a bus or sub bus feed. That would then feed to another mixer attached to computer done this way. Hope that helps!

    About a year before covid limitations my church had the impression "Do Livestream".
    We had about 20 viewers - but when the lockdown came, it raises because few churches were ready. As a German church we got viewers from all German speaking Europe. When churches were able to offer streams or doing the service with Zoom, our live audience decreased, but we also stream a worship time, what has before this was visited by possibly 10 people.

    • @testuser3167
      @testuser3167 4 роки тому

      @@boaty87d This will probably depend upon the camera in question, and also very heavily on your internet bandwidth. If you host your own website, you'll have both the web traffic from normal use of your website to consider, but also the upload of everyone who connects to your stream to download/view it. You DON'T want to host this yourself with most internet providers.
      Even if your website is hosted externally, you'll still want to have your stream sent from a hosted server instance, so that you only have to have fast enough upload on your end to get your stream to your (cloud?) provider, and then it can be re-streamed from there to however many other services you wish to stream it too, including your own website.
      Trying to do it all in-house is a recipe for disaster unless your audience is REALLY small, like less than 10-15 viewers, depending upon your (upload) internet speeds.
      Keep in mind, ISPs (at least in the USA) will heavily market and brag about their DOWNLOAD speeds, when they're selling you their services, but they don't make much mention of the UPLOAD speeds, which are usually a small fraction of the download speeds, so check yours before you literally crash the network trying to save the day. Try speedtest.net sometime when your internet is not in heavy use.

    I’m a Mac guy. Yes, I understand PC seems to work better with livestream. We have a Mac running Propresenter for our worship. Newbie question here. Should the live computer be able to work with Propresenter computer? If I’m using Mac for Propresenter should I just stay with Mac for the livestream. Awesome vid, yep I’m here to cause of the COVID-19. :)

    • @testuser3167

      You may be better off if you can dedicate a computer to doing the live streaming. For example, what we're going to be doing next Sunday (And successfully did last Sunday), was to capture the feeds and stream them on a separate computer, while the presentations were running on the same computer that they always run on. I know that it can be done with OBS, but I've never tried it with the commercial software packages he mentions here. I know that OBS can import network captures from Macs to get this kind of data, but we didn't use a Mac for that, we ran OBS on a Mac for streaming last Sunday, and next Sunday, it will be on a Linux box, with the presentations and announcements running on other Windows PCs, just because they're already pressed into service doing those tasks for the hall, and I can pull NDI captures from them into OBS for the live stream.

    Does ecamm live auto sync between mixer audio and camera audio? In the video Jake's PTZ camera was at a different speed than his audio, but when he replayed his recording on youtube the audio synced properly. Did you Jake have to configure that or did the program automatically do that?

    Very helpful. However, audio and video are in sync until you stream through the PTZ cam. Then the audio/video is out of sync. Possibly e-Camm is the culprit. Any insight into that?

    Streamed for the first time last sunday as a test at my church. Had some A/V sync issues, the video camera we used has a 250 ms delay on the HDMI output. I delayed the audio input from X32 in OBS, but what if we add other cameras in the future that has different latency?

    • @djazz0
      @djazz0 4 роки тому

      I ran it on the same laptop that run the projector software, and chroma keyed that output to put the text over the camera with a semitransparent black background. Looks really good! Our projector is in 4:3 though because the wall is too narrow for 16:9.

      We have been recording audio of our services since the days of tape, and I think we’re ready to take the next step to stream live video. Target audience is for our church members and for other people to get an idea what our church is like on the inside.

    Hi Jake. Very informative. Very helpful. I get the principles you've outlined, and I think there's enough here to get me started. I just want to make 3 observations. 1) You address Mac and Windows, but act as though you've never heard of Linux. What's that about? I'd be happy if you said you are not familiar with Linux, but acknowledged the platform as a viable, if not a superior option to the 2 you've mentioned. 2) Open source software: You represent open source as being somewhat unreliable and inferior. This bags the question "how researched are you?" I can tell you that for everything that I need to do, I've always found a viable open source option on Linux... so please be kind to the good folks that build great software and give it away free. Please fix these 2 things. 3) I think that it's very helpful and strategic that you highlight the objectives you're working with here. You said you want a solution that's easy to use, and is affordable. That's important because that's how one can evaluate it and decide how optimal it is. I for instance would like to use multiple cameras and realise that's not within the objectives you've set, but I still found this very helpful. Great video! From the principles you've highlighted, I think I have enough to start formulating a solution I can run on my Linux laptop. Thank you, and God bless.

      AMEN!!! 3 weeks ago, our church started with FB Live on an old iPad, and frankly, it was horrible. By last Sunday, we had moved on to a decent camera, a borrowed Macbook, & OBS, and even though we didn't know how to use most of what OBS can do, it was an order of magnitude better. By Palm Sunday, we're likely to be running OBS on a Linux box, and if Amazon can get us a HDMI to NDI adapter, we'll have multi-camera function, and by then, we'll have sorted out the overlays and more of the fancy features that make OBS such a wonderful choice. I even expect to have a private re-streaming server up on premises (also running Linux) to allow us to stream to multiple sites at the same time, and all using open source software. There's NO way this could have been done affordably using commercial software in that time-frame, if only because of the time needed to run a fundraising campaign to pay for it...
