  • In today's case study we have a 2015 Jeep Renegade with the 2.4l 4 cylinder Multiair engine. The customers complaint was that the cooling fan was not working. The customer did her own troubleshooting and found that the cooling fan was bad. She requested for us to replace the fan and we did. But even after replacing the cooling fan, it still did not work. The check engine light is illuminated and using a scan tool we were able to read that there are 2 different codes present. P0481 Cooling fan 2 control circuit fault and P0113 Intake air temperature sensor 1 circuit high fault. Follow along as I take you through the troubleshooting steps I took in order to diagnose this vehicle.

I'm sure that you know, but one of the best tips I was ever given by an older tech was that if an oxygen sensor wasn't coming out. Stop, dump a cap full of brake fluid onto the oxygen sensor, and walk away for 5 minutes. When you come back, the sensor will easily come out. His explanation is that the brake fluid melts away the carbon that is holding the oxygen sensor in the manifold and I have used it a bunch of times with success!
Great video btw! For whatever reason, I wasn't being notified when you were posting videos! I'm glad I caught this one!

There are many important life lessons in this video, thanks for allowing us to follow along. People who think auto repair is easy need to understand how often secondary problems can happen during a repair, including stripped threads on a device that was simply in the way, broken wires unrelated to the issue, and the confusing hands of someone else involved before.

The explanation at the beginning was a little vague when mentioning that the owner coming to the conclusion of a bad fan that she had checked the relay and fuse but didn't mention that she found the fuse was bad. also if the original fan was checked by the first mechanic, or you double checked the original fan to make sure it was the cause of the fuse blowing... But all worked out well. Thank you for another great diagnosis and repair.

So if those wires on the IAT would of tested good.... What do I test next? The engine coolant temp sensor or the oil temp sensor? I'm asking because my fan will not come on. I'm trying to eliminate all possibilities before buying a new fan. I'm almost certain a AC PRESSURE SENSOR COULD KEEP THE FAN FROM NOT COMING ON.... I also have a P0481 code but my fan won't run in high or low speed. I also had a blown 50Amp maxi fuse. I replaced it and still no fan working.. ive had to walk away from it several times frustrated... Can you please tell me the location of the other power distribution unit where the last fan relay is at? Any other help would be great too.....

Voltage Drop Diagnostics, can you help me, I'm pulling my hairs out over this 2017 Jeep Cherokee 2.4. The engine temps creeps up when sitting stationary like at a stop light etc. but when driving the temp come back down to normal. Does the 2017 Jeep Cherokee have 2 fan speed setting? With the A/C on the fan does work. I let the Jeep idle in the garage, it got up to 228 and the fan never kicked on. The only fuse I found was a mini 5 amp "radiator fan enable" fuse. I don't see any relays or any other fuses. Would appreciate if you can guide me in the right direction.

My customers suck at diagnosing their own cars since 80-90% of the time their diagnosis is way off. I normally try to get diagnostic time since they would be wasting their money almost every time. Some customers see the wisdom of this and the ones that don't are probably better off at a shop down the road.
