What is a Crossover Trial? New BPH trial, Part 2

- This video explains what is meant by a randomized crossover trial. I use the example of how we are evaluating new prostate stents for the treatment of BPH. I explain what "sham" treatment means, and hopefully make it easy to understand the process of how we evaluate new treatments in urology. More information on trial participation can be directed to BPHtrial@HoustonMethodist.org .

I wonder if an antiandrogen seed could be injected to facilitate shrinking of the prostate .. ?
Great idea👍👍👍
I expected you to talk about the anticipated side effects and or how long the procedure takes, etc.
Thank you for the feedback. Those questions are covered during the evaluation process. Anticipated side effects can include burning on urination, blood in urine and transient increase in urinary frequency. There is the potential risk of urinary tract infection. The procedures typically take less than 8 minutes to perform.

Sounds to me just like the UroLift procedure!
Not exactly. The new devices are designed to be removed completely, and they do not perforate the capsule of the prostate. What the new treatments share in common are the fact that they expand the space in the middle of the prostate to facilitate urinary flow without affecting other functions.
Where in Denver are they doing this?
You can check on clinicaltrials.gov and search "LUTS" (lower urinary tract symtpoms) and enter your city to see what trials are near you.
