I love this ballet, but it's a hard one to pull off technically. I agree with some others that the boys come off in this a bit better than the girls.. (but also noted the comment that they were in toe shoes). It's quite fast and a bear to get everyone to match. I have seen it done better, but I'm glad that it is in the Royal Danish repertoire. I think their technical standard has been steadily improving for years, and I am so proud of them. I think they are a company with heart and personality.
I do believe that was Lander's whole point in this ballet - it's inspired by ballet classroom exercises. Like it or not (and not everyone does), it's one of ballet's most often-performed, popular ballets for whatever reason..a good one-act technical showpiece filler ballet. It's in the reps of ABT, Kirov, Paris Opera Ballet, among others. I think Landers choreographed it as a showpiece for his famous ballerina wife, Toni...
I love this ballet and recently found out the music was by Knudage Riisager (after Carl Czerny) Regarding the dance style of the Bournonville female dancers, I feel the Men are much stronger techically Their elegance pulled up core and footwork is brilliant.. I like Kenneth Greve very much
@polandjesus That shouldn't be a hinder. They are proffesional dancers, and are supposed to be as fluid en pointe as without shoes. The males have to jump higher and turn more, and we (the girls) have to do the stuff en pointe - without the arms getting affected. Believe me, i know from experience..
Etudes is a ballet composed by Knudåge Riisager. Please DO note the composers name along the title, I am in my right to report it unless you do, so please do get your notes right, right
I like the males better than the females. The guys seem to be more fluid and elegant, while the girls are a little stiff and maybe imature espescially in their arm work.
the last part of this variation is my absolute favorite. beats make me smile and this choreography is completely lovely
KNUDÅGE RIISAGER today it is 125 years since his birth. TILLYKKE, Kære Knudåge. Tak for de mange fantastik glædestrålende musikoplevelser fra dig!

This Ballet shows the diversity of the Danish School.
RDB is doing Etudes again here in may :)

The Composers idea af this work alltogether: Knudåge Riisagers music, to choreography af Harald Lander
Without Sarafanov it would have been a disaster.
But girls are on point. So that makes it harder for them. I know from experience.
