      The 2014 demarcation barriers west of the Donetsk airport held for 8 years, was breached two days ago by Ukraine, who then took the airport. This had never occurred before, Russia had snipers on the roofs and in the tower and so for Donetsk two days ago, Ukraine breached the Russia defenses there. As for Luhansk, there is one town in the center for administration and really nothing else but one other town hub. That has no defense lines, can be taken easily, then they move south behind Donbass front lines by tens of miles and just take the Russians out. When that happens, the southern Russian forces run for the Kirst bridge while it is still standing.

      I've said since Russia withdrew from Kyiv that they might break in a cascade failure. They have been throwing themselves at Ukraine for little to no gain for months. They lack manpower for a war of this size and the manpower they have is exhausted and demoralized. Add the Himars gutting the logistics and command and you have a recipe for disaster for a normal army. Add the abuse, conscription and corruption of the Russian army and it just gets worse.

      If they stop sending aid it would be bad especially with what was wasted in Afghanistan…. Political suicide…. There in this for the long haul. I don’t think it’s an option to pull out for the west maybe smaller nations for economic reasons, but not the larger ones who can afford it. I mean the money isn’t free Ukraine has to pay it back over time after the war. If there allowed to lose well that money may never be recouped. I think we are in the middle of the war another year are so Russia will have to make a hard decision continue, and possibly collapse it’s economy or pull out with whatever deal they can muster from Ukraine… Possibly something like Ukraine can never join NATO which they really don’t need Nato just there weapons economic help in a war.

    One of my enduring memories was how quickly the Eastern Bloc collapsed in 1989. It had always been a house of cards that would eventually collapse, but we in the West never foresaw how rapidly it would come down once a single card was pulled. The same thing is going to happen again. It will start with a rout on the battlefield---perhaps that has started---then a few protests here and there that will be put down, then mobs taking to the streets and that will be it. Everyone will be surprised when it happens, but we've seen it in 1917 and 1991.

      @Patrick C: And u will recall that the Ukrainian soldiers held off this overwhelming Russian onslaught for a long time by themselves until these wonder weapons as u call them--and very appropriately--could finally get to them. And they did this while evacuating mothers with small children in tow out of harms way. And what did the twenty first century mass murderer called Putin do in response to Ukraine's stubborn tenacity in the meanwhile? Why, this bloodsucker instructed his army to hit hospitals, train stations, and residential neighborhoods with his rockets and missiles, and shells, and mortars in an effort to murder as many women and small children as he could. Actually, this was and is a favorite tactic that this murderer called Putin likes to use. He used this method on Syrian civilians to help his fellow tyrant blood sucker Bashar-Al-Assad stay in power. In fact, the murderer called Putin was on point of using poison gas against the Ukrainian civilians as he had done against children in Syria with impunity--only this time he was facing a resolute NATO who told him in no uncertain terms that he had better not cross that line again. And if nothing else, the Russians are good at picking up on signals from the west, and the murderer called Putin wisely pulled back from the brink. But yes, the wonder weapons--and in particular the HIMARS--have tremendous capabilities and are in the capable hands of Ukrainian marines who are producing splendid results with them. In fact, the Ukrainian soldiers use the weapons provided to them by the west with such effectiveness that it increases our resolve to help them until every last Russian invader is driven out of Ukraine. Permanently.

The Russians have pushed the lie for eight years that Lugansk and Donetsk Oblasts were "Russian", when in fact the populations of those two oblasts were 61% and 62% ethnic Ukrainian. Crimea was, in the 2001 Ukrainian census, reported to be 58% ethnic Russian. Immediately after taking Crimea in 2014, the Russians held a census; if I recall, the number of respondents reporting to be ethnic Russian was 60%; likely, that number is higher now.

    Focus on just the logistics for a minute. Russia is unable to logistically handle the 150,000 or so troops they have in Ukraine right now, so imagine how difficult it will be to mobilize and send another 250,000 to 500,000 troops, plus another 100,000 North Koreans and keep them fed, warm and supplied with ammunition. Even if Russia had those troops available now, I don't see how they could continue to function once whatever food and ammunition they brought with them was gone. But if Russia doesn't mobilize and send more troops, they are going to lose the war much sooner than they would otherwise.

    The training is four weeks, that means it's basically 2,500 per month. So if Ukraine waited till September that would give them 5000 fresh soldiers. Which might be why they're so overwhelming right now. And every month from now on it's 2,500 more, Russia is finished, they are recruiting in prison and nursing homes.

    We can only hope that when conventional warfare has failed, Russia won't resort to the use of tactical nukes and other WMDs (chemical, etc.). Nuclear terrorism can't be ruled out, either. Sabotaging nuclear power plants in Ukraine would be disastrous for the entire region. When control freaks lose their grip on the situation they usually become desperate and unpredictable. Since the conflict erupted, Kremlin has proven time&time again about how little they care about civilian bystanders.

    • @catparka7698
      @catparka7698 2 роки тому

      There really are only two trajectories for Russia now (arguably since late March). One is defeat - territorially on Ukraine's terms - the other is WMDs. To make WMDs stick, Russia has to go big but stay beneath the strategic threshold - being symbolic with them would just piss everyone off and lurch them closer to defeat. There is a way for them to hit the 'sweet spot' - which is a WMD strike directed at NATO on a broad European front while simultaneously insuring that US strategic assets remain unused... the sort of thing the Russian ultra-nationalists have fantasized about since the late '90s - but it really is an immense undertaking that might be beyond them.

      We've known about the nuclear risk for 6 months now. Ukraine and its allies are getting more confident. Don't assume plans haven't been made already in the event of a Russian nuclear strike. Perhaps Ukraine already has access to tactical nukes as well. Also, don't assume all supplied weapons have been publicly declared. We saw it with the Ukrainian strikes on Crimea. They had longer range weapons than everybody believed. The same could be true about tactical.nukes.

    • @catparka7698
      @catparka7698 2 роки тому

      @@talkingebikes I actually haven't assumed anything - at least anything I don't declare as such. Regarding the possibility that Ukraine has acquired tactical nukes - were that known in NATO, the organisation would implode. There's no way that most of the Member States would acquiesce in such an irresponsible and illegitimate act. Doing that could only ever be a political, not a military act, and that's the stuff that would crash a democratically elected Govt. in a heartbeat. Regarding Russia's capacity. The worst-case scenario is NATOs responsibility to guard against. That must be covered off first - regardless of how likely it might appear - and everything else NATO does has to be consistent with maintaining that cover. They've done a great job, going by publicly available information. However, putting in place the necessary contingency plan and ring-fencing it's resources doesn't eliminate the threat and doesn't guarantee a successful resolution should the threat be acted on. There remains, potentially, an awful lot of jeopardy in the upcoming months. We'll wait and see which way the wind blows.

    Right now Ukraine seems like a lucky player at the Casino, who finally, after a series of losses has finally won! And instead of immediately leaving the premise with the amount he won (i.e. to start negotiations based on the current military achievements) this player comes back to the table - confident that such win will make him truly rich... We all know what this usually ends up with...

      Everything that was stolen from him by the rigged dealer, and the dealer’s wallet, after shooting that scoundrel in the face. 😄😉
      Obviously, Ukraine is getting back all their territory, including the previously annexed Crimea. Plus a ton of military equipment from NATO! It will take a while to rebuild all the damage of course, but Ukraine will end up better off than ever! And you can bet American companies will be lining up at the door for rebuilding contracts, as well as mining/extraction of Ukraine’s newly found gas fields in Donbas!
