I Lost at Bargaining in Penang's Local Market 🇲🇾

  • If you want to experience Georgetown as a local you have to go to the Chowrasta market maps.app.goo.gl/7wA4WUgPfmSc4... , that's what I read online so I went. I bargained my way through the market and acquired several articles.
    While reading the google reviews for Chowrasta market some people where recommending to try the juice from Ais Tingkap maps.app.goo.gl/xMGSmxFzcJf8R... it didn't dissapoint.
    After that I somehow discovered another market which actually was much bigger than the original Chowrasta market. It was called Chowrasta morning market according to a local and it's situated just next to the other market.

    I like the special subtitles you added to let people know where you are, very smart!
    That white dress looks great on you, very handsome and exotic!
    I’m very happy that this episode made me know about Sarbat. It turns out that it is also commonly consumed by Muslims during the fasting period of Ramadan.
    You are so lucky to have discovered the morning market by accident. Thank you very much for sharing!

    Tim... just to share with you. I would normally slip in the small bills like 10s, 5s & 1s in my back-pocket and keep the larger ones like 20s & 50s in my wallet. Therefore, I don't have to take out my wallets all the time, just reach behind my butt to pull it out to buy small items. Furthermore, you wanna keep prying eyes away from your money especially if you got thick bills in your wallet. You just don't know who you will have enticed.

    A good rule of thumb for shopping in Malaysia, anything with price tag we don't really bargain. You can still bargain but there won't be much discount or even fixed price. Malaysians are generally honest and most of them wouldn't quote you exorbitant price or "white man tax". But there will always be exceptions, so you still need to do your due diligence.

    • @rozaiaw2308
      @rozaiaw2308 8 місяців тому

      Yes, most Malaysian will usually only ask once how much discount they can give and that is it. We dont do real bargain in Malaysia cos the price is usually standard.

    Items that are already RM30 and below, we don't usually bargain for RM10 less. RM1-5 is still ok but not for every single time nor for every single item, bargaining more than that is pushing your luck and just plain disrespectful considering what you bought are basic clothing items that already very affordable and cheap from small businesses, they don't make a lot of profit. Most sellers here are straightforward and honest. If you have trust issues with local sellers and think they are overcharging you, do your due diligence first by checking the prices in online shops or look around to several shops/ stalls first and do a price comparison before you commit to buy or begin to haggle.

  • @nickloong
    @nickloong 9 місяців тому +3

    Its not necessarily to bargain at every opportunity, slippers priced at under Rm20 is already a bargain, especially for the Asadi brand. The auntie would have only managed a Rm2 to Rm5 margin selling it at Rm15. That's not very much given that its a shop and not a stall. It's not easy to make money from Tim!😂😂😂
