The bass test was great. It was good to hear it with the drums playing and how it interacts when you tweak the unit. That's usually what I do when I'm mixing.
I thought my attack knob was broken or inactive, it turns a bit bit as if it were loose. The other buttons feel "slick". Thanks for highlighting haptics!
The Attack knob is smooth like that on mine and you can go counterclockwise till it stops then click it a step further to stick it into 1:1 so no compression but adding the color of the 1176. Also GR is where you set compression. The Comp is actually the compressed signal final output level you get from adjust Output knob. 👍

I just bought this unit and have tracked in joint mode though I also want to use it as a hardware insert. Can you confirm... using it as a hardware insert in joint mode your going out from the comp line output > DAW input > DAW output > preamp line input? ...and in split mode you would use both preamp and comp I/O? If both preamp and comp I/O is utilized for this unit to be used as an insert then I need a couple more TRS/ XLR cables... though I don't think I'd use it in split mode as an insert if you can just bypass the comp anyway. I'm about one more hardware unit away from a patch bay. Thanks!
Excuse the potentially stupid/ambiguous question, but if one was to mix with this unit across multiple tracks individually/one-at-a-time, would you 'print' the mix from the 1176N onto the track itself to lock in your desired tone/sound? then would that allow you to use it on another track and rinse-repeat? I don't have any outboard gear yet but i use this printing principle with VSTs/plugins, as I'm sure a lot of do which is why I'm trying to get a bit of perspective on the matter.

You would have to print it to the entire mix by running a line out of your audio interface to one of the inputs of the unit therefore creating an effects loop. You won't be able to have different settings from outboard gear to each track because you would an actual console and this is a one channel strip. You may be able to alter the send amount from each channel so it gets less or more of the effect which would create some interesting dynamics in the overall mix. I hope this helps.
6:35 I had a 6176 from 2018 since new. The attack knob had no discernable difference in resistance feel than the other knobs around it, such as the release knob. No issues for me. That said, I sold mine because I just wasn't getting the mojo out of it and it just sat in the rack doing nothing. I would rather invest that cash in an Apollo X interface and use their excellent UAD plugins. Much more value for money that way!
I know I want it, but I'm still not too sure what it is or does or if I need it? I own a zoom recorder, condenser mics, pedals, helicon, etc... Seems rather expensive for what little it does.

My unit doesn’t allow me to turn the knob pass 12 o’clock. It induces noise and recorded into my vocal track.
how do i set the back for join? bcus mine only works in split mode.
