I suffer from Tinnitus and I love that “noise” it helps block out the ringing . I literally have a fan running in my room 24-7 and can’t sleep without one running
I brought mine yesterday for my tiny room. I had it facing me during the night. It worked for me so far, better than a fan. I had to shut it off couple hours later. It does not cool the entire room down, it's like a cold fan. I enjoyed it.
I just bought one for my truck (I'm a tractor trailer driver). With this pointing toward my bunk, my screens in my windows, my bunk fan, and a clip fan on, I've got a really nice, cool and comfortable temp inside my truck on a summer evening. I love it. Definitely makes a difference.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is a small Swamp Cooler! Swamp coolers only work in dry climates. We have one in the SoCal desert and use it in addition to our two ACs. It works great here when days are sometimes 110 degrees, but don’t expect it to work in humid conditions.
That's right. Here in Phoenix we've had Swamp Coolers for many decades. If you can wet the cooler pads then put them in the freezer of course itll be very cold but that's just using your freezer as an airconditioner. The goofy guy in the video doesn't even need an AC. You have to live in a place where it's over 110F to understand. This little box will melt in Phoenix.
@@sufyanah you had me laughing. I’ve never heard it put that way. Flashing for years. I’m gonna borrow that phrase if you don’t mind. I love it!! Brilliant
I bought the original unit 3 years ago and I use it everyday when the temp outside is over 73, my apt is usually 7 degrees warmer, so I use it next to me, working, watching TV and sleeping. It works great.
Just a quick thought and I might be wrong. The IR thermometer might be measuring the temperature of the blades not the air. This means that if the material absorbs the cold then it is lost from the air being blown out because some materiasl absorb temperature better than others. This might be why the temperature registers as warmer in the new model. Doesn't mean that the air has that temperature, but it might be a close enough approximation.
Coolers like this work according to two principles: simple airflow (the fan) and evaporative cooling (passing the airflow through a damp filter). Each can give a separate subjective sense of cooling, depending on the conditions. In this case, you were already in a room at standard "room temperature," so just moving more air faster will give you a sense of coolness. Therefore, the unit with the more powerful fan will seem to cool well, even if it doesn’t do much to drop the temperature (as the Ultra didn’t seem to be doing by more than a couple of degrees). Frankly, a strong table fan with a larger surface area of the blades and a more-powerful motor would probably seem to do an even better job. But, when you're in an overheated room (say, over 80 degrees), the roles get reversed. A stronger fan will simply push more hot, uncomfortable air at a higher speed. In that case, the cooler with the stronger evaporative cooling may seem to work better, as it will actually drop the temperature of the air it’s pushing out. It's a shame you couldn’t have conducted these tests in a really hot room, which is probably where most people will be using this. Based on the size of the filters (and, thus, the evaporative capacity), I'm guessing the original would do a better job, even if you had to have it only a foot or so away.
The original works better to me. This in an 80 degree room but I don't have the gauge to tell ne. The older one just seems to keep me more comfortable.
I live in Mesquite, Nevada. We had five days last week that ran from 115 to 119. Then the power went out. Fortunately, we had bought a solar generator, that was all charged and ready to go and it sure was nice to have the Arctic Air. Nobody cares if it is loud when we are getting relief.
50 yearago i lived in a trailer , set 2 milk cartons filled with ice into my dishpan and turned a fan on the cartons...cooled a room only 8x8 long enough for baby's nap time...plus...i guess that's what they call a swamp cooler today...thank goodness for airconditioners...and thank you for some good information.
*This works pretty well for it's little size **Fastly.Cool** my bedroom I learned to soak the filter in ice water for best resultsThis is a lifesaver when the power goes out over a three day weekend*
The thing with evaporative coolers is that the air needs to be hot and dry to start with. If your ambient humidity goes above 15 or 20%, they don't work well at all. I have a large one on top of my house and here in the southwest U.S., where the air is pretty dry (usually 12-18% humidity), I can keep the inside in the mid-70's even when it's 95+ outside!😉
I live in incredibly dry Las Vegas and the device does not seem to provide the wicking material with sufficient moisture to maintain the cooling effect. Right when I turn it on the cooling effect is dramatic. But then immediately the pads dry out. And the cold effect won’t come back unless I turn it off for a minute or resoak the pad
Just a theory: since cold air is heavier and tends to sink, you could try setting the Arctic air on a relatively high shelf and see whether the cold air will flow/sink downwards and cool a larger area than it normally does.
@Beyond Reality Definitely something to think about, yes. Would be interesting to hear from someone willing to test the theory . I can't afford to buy this product or I would have done a test to find out whether or not it works.
I splurged for an extra filter, so I can alternate the frozen filters. It makes the hugest difference, and I don’t notice it’s not as cold for a few hours. I like it, however, it’s freaking loud, even low is pretty bad. Have to turn it off at night to sleep, and I can sleep in some loud situations. It does what it says it does.
'Consistent in its LOUDNESS?' What the heck? My God, just say IT IS TOO LOUD. IT DOESN'T WORK. FAN QWORKS BETTER & NOT AS LOUD. CAN SLEEP WITH A "FAN" AND IF THE WATER EVAPORATES WHILE YOU'RE SLEEPING? UNIT IS DAMAGED. Not much 'cool air' coming out. 'HUMID AIR'. If your SKIN IS WET then you'll FEEL COLLER. Unit must be sitting ON YOUR CHEST though! OK enough
After using it a month in +30C, IT DOES NOT COOL DOWN A ROOM buy an actual AC. But as a gamer/student who spends alot of time on my laptop sitting in the same place. This is heaven, my room is dead hot, but the area around my chair and where this thing blows is very comfortable. Its not extremely cold when it faces you, its just a ventilator system not an cold air conditioner, this is just a fan with extra steps. As a guy with eczema/extreme dry skin, this may help me in future -30C winter temperatures where the air is extremely dry, as it humidifies room quite decently. The water you put in arctic air ultra last an hour or two, sometimes i run the system dry, im not sure if its burning something or damaging the insides but i will find that out when it breaks, super affordable since it cost me 6$, The usb heats up quite well so i assume if ifs on for a long time may have problems with the cord around usb burning, works fine for a month for now, as a student who is not willing to spend hefty amount for ac the cost efficiency is likeable.
Oh yea to add, the noise is quite annoying but at the price point, its bearable. me and my roomate sleep fine with the thing on. You want a headphones to work with it, because after an hour or two, your ears and head basically hurt if its close to you, when you turn it off after a long time you finally feel peace but after the heat kicks in in a few ten's minutes so i turn it back on after letting my ears chill for a bit. with airpods pro and quiet music its ignorable, overall its bearable
I purchased this one from Walmart. I added ice water and I did wet the filter under the tap (no freezer). I find the unit to cool off the area for me where I am sitting next to it and am outside reading the paper. I am in Houston,Texas and it is humid out here today 5/26/21. Gonna keep it bc I like reading the paper and I do enjoy the cooler breeze from the unit.
These will not cool a room, they do not refrigerate. They lower the temp of the outgoing air, about 10 degrees. They work best in the desert, where humidity is low. We call it a swamp cooler in Arizona. Its an evaporative cooler.
I have one of the ultras and I likle it. It's been super handy as an additional cooler as it's starting to get warm out here in AZ. There's not much to it and I think it could have been done better, but it does what it's supposed to. I'll put ice in the reservoir before bed and sleep more comfortably than without it
You’d get the same effect by placing a bowl of ice cubes in your bedroom. The only effect on the temperature is from the ice and/or cool water. The effect on the room is negligible.
Ryan: for me, that actually works to my benefit. It's one of those white noise things that helps me to stay asleep. And Ben: fair point. I plan to build my own that should be far more efficient/useful. But we'll see... hopefully it goes well...
So my question is something to have vs a fan for a smaller room when it gets so freaking hot in summer when your central ac runs nonstop from like 12pm till 12am nonstop to keep it even 70 in here and I'm so flipping hot natured ..would this be a help to have a cooler breeze to add to my smaller room. Or would it be of no difference to the room to help my WC not run so hard so much...
I have the Original i bought when I lived in Alabama. It didn't work well in the South. I moved to New Mexico and it works beautifully! It's an evaporative cooler which works best in dryer not humid climates. It cools small spaces. I have mine by my bed. And I put ice water with cubes or crushed in it. It's great for when the power co decides to have a power save event and the disable everyone's AC compressors at peak time. Makes it comfy in a small space and makes you able to stay home with no AC for the 4 hour power save events.
I have a 540 sq ft workshop, the other day it was 81°F outside and using my Arctic Air in my workshop it was at 70°F. I'd say it works just fine. It's not air conditioning, but it's better than nothing.
Well its 47°C where i live and i dont have an ac... I have a fan but i live in a room with quite a few animals and if i close my windows its very dry air. .. Im getting this
If you tossed ice cubes into the water chamber might do the same thing and if you are only having to periodically add water and ice from time to time it might be just as effective as wetting and freezing the filter.
I have 2 of these, they work great with ice cubes, cold refrigerated water, and a frozen filter. The air hits you if you are within 4 feet away. It's probably not for 2 people, much less for a large room. I bought mine for $10 each. Probably wouldn't pay $30 for these. Works as a humidifier too.
I bought one of these last year and when I unboxed it it looked brand new but it never has worked. The knob makes a click sound when turned but it never has even run for one minute. Don’t waste your money! 💔🇺🇸
I bought one then looked at reviews,i moved into Vancouver and its very hot in the room and I can set it up behind me and play games and well I can say for sure does what its supposed to do. Definitely stopped sweating after buying one.
I disagree with testing without soaking. It concept is blowing air over water. I had an (very) old one, maybe in the 70's or 80's and what it ended up doing was to make the room much more humid. It was effectively a humidifier. I noticed items in the room actually getting slightly wet.
Once your wet, or frozen, filter dries or thaws, it's a small fan. Fill an Igloo cooler with ice, open the lid and have a fan blowing across the ice. Have the drain plug emptying into ice cube trays. Have a valet, or your middle child, taking the filled trays to your freezer, and refilling the cooler with ice as needed and possible. Boom! Coolers come in many sizes, to suit your cooling or picnicking needs.
Indeed you are a rare gem to be so creative inventive and resourceful! I'm definitely returning this because it's just a waste of $139 as the noise is not a continuous sound but it rattles going up and down up and down and the regular Standalone fan is much more effective at blowing cool air. I'm going to return this and going to purchase a cooler instead and place it on a higher surface since our fan is very high up. Again thank you so much for the great advice!
I've tried some of these things...you feel you have a second job putting ice cubes and frozen filters several times a day! It's way easier spending $159 to get a real, low cost a/c which actual coils and refrigerant.
This device takes advantage of people that don't know how air conditioning works. It's a glorified swamp cooler that had marketing behind it. It doesn't save any energy because for it to provide any decent cooling output you need ice cold water and to make that water ice cold it takes energy. Marketing at it's finest.
I just bought one today from a thrift store for $6, that's why I'm watching this vid. I live in NV where it's hot & dry in the summer. I'm gonna use it in my bedroom overnight to cool me so I can sleep comfortably w/o using my central a/c. Hope it lasts 10 hrs straight without refilling like it says.
@@peabomkhize1459 Thank you for YOUR HONESTY. They want you to BUY 20 A/C SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THEM WITH 20 FROZEN FILTERS AND EXTRA 50 POUNDS OF ICE to get you through night of HORRIFIC HEAT IN SUMMER!!! And next to you is your wife sleeping 'quietly because her FAN doesn't make NOISE and she is COOLER....' WOW, NO THANKS! $400.00 A/C DESK TOP X 20. ICE 50 LBS? $40.00 FOR NIGHT. 20 EXTRA FILTERS $$ EACH? $1000.00 FOR 2 DEGREES LESS? LOL
You made a valuble observation about freezing the filter. Consumers need to decide if the minor inconvenience is worth it. By far your review is the best ive watched.
I've read it's counteractive to because the air needs to be warm and dry for it to pull in the air and work properly. It will feel colder at first but evaporative units won't woyk properly like that. I tried and it didn't work so that how I found out. You'd get better results just putting a bowl of ice in front of a fan.
I used to rent a room and my friend supplied one in the summer,I wouldn't have survived the heat without it. I'm gonna buy a couple of them. They are perfect for a medium sized room but not a big house or mansion.
Its's a mini evaporation cooler, these have been around for a long time, will work in low humidity areas. Useless in high humidity areas. I believe you were getting cooler temps out of the old unit because you were directly measuring on the evaporator pad the new unit you were on the diverter fins.
I just bought mine. I have 7 fans going in the house but you have to be almost touching to feel those. This arctic air can be felt from a distance and is no louder than the other fans.
I use it in my bedroom every night and it has made sleeping so much more comfortable. The feeling of coolness in a 2nd story small bedroom is excellent and a great improvement to having just a fan running. I use ice cubes as well and it does make it cooler
@@wordsat2328 it really is about having a reasonable and positive perspective when buying new items because we all have different likes and dislikes :0)
This thing saved my butt the last few days. We had a historic heatwave where I live, the hottest temps ever recorded. I’m waiting on my AC unit to get here, ordered it from Lowe’s and they’re taking forever. So I picked up one of these in the meantime. It really helps cool you down when you sit next to it. It doesn’t cool a room down, but it will cool your body temp down if you put ice in it and sit next to it.
These aren't air conditioners, they just evaporate water in order to trade hot dry air for cold humid air. If you live in a hot dry climate then yes this product works, but where I live we have hot humid air so these will do absolutely nothing.
I'd argue that putting ice into it is also counterproductive. To make ice, you need to remove the heat from warm water using a freezer, which exhausts that heat into your room. The freezer isn't 100% efficient, so adding ice heats the room more than it cools it.
Mine seems much quieter than the one you have 🤔 I really like it next to my bed. I turn my ac off at night to save some bucks. Like a few others have said, freeze the filter and put a couple frozen water bottles behind the unit and you’ll get 4-5 degrees cooler. My temp gauge read 52° from 5 feet away w/ the bottles behind it.
Thank you so much for what you do. You saved me from wasting my money on another "Incredible" product that is 99% "Hype," and a waste of consumers time and money. Please continue to test other products in this way.
Won’t cool a room, if you need that, spend $69.00 and get same size mini AC unit box with a compressor. This is a fan with ways to add ice and water. I have the original, w/ the light show. I use a gel pack slab that fits in its side pocket, I have 4 of these always frozen, when needed. When I am ready to go to bed I pop one in, on extra hot nights I place a 2 liter bottle of frozen water in front of its fan, blows cold air all night. It is a process, but takes longer to brush my teeth than set this up for bed. On nights when I need cool air, not cold air, I use one gel pack. It also helps my window unit not run as hard on real hot nights, saves on power bill. My bedroom is on SW side of house and it’s gets HOT and the least amount of cool air from our HVAC. I love my little ice box, the whole left side lights up as well as top and fan buttons, serves as my night light too. The different colors enhance moods, it’s arctic blue light tricks the mind to think cool, it works, on red I feel warm. These are not made to replace an entire AC unit, it serves to enhances whatever you already have going. Don’t forget to exhaust your space, I have fan in a transom window above my bed removing hot air out of my room! Cheers
Just a very basic heat exchanger. You can make your own. Just get a load of freezer blocks, freeze them, build a Stonehenge tower and place in front of your bigger desktop fan. Cold air until you blocks become room temperature.
Thank you 🇺🇸🥳🇹🇹 I bought 2 artic airs a few year ago, they work so good thanks for your video 🤩these devices .save your electric and keeps you cool hot hot days .💕they heLp stop my migraine I am true believer .
Great review! I was considering this for a large upstairs room that gets hot during the summer. You answered every question I had about the product and saved me the purchase. Thank you!
I have 2-one in bsmt bedroom and one in kitchen. Works good in kitchen. Basement one condensates water and leaks on floor. Hours running with full tank is way optimistic . Air conditioning dehumifies- these coolers don't. The good thing about them is they use 2 amps. Window AC units use 15 amps when compressor kicks on. These work best with cold water in tank.
Is only good for Uni/college students 1 bed dorm/room or old age care centers for your granny. I'm talking actually a room only 2.5m x 3m room by your bed side with the night weather temperature of approx 25 degrees. Then this will cool your room down to 22-23 for about an hour or so. That's it. Then it will stay maybe 23-22 degrees. Don't bother buying it & use it if the outside temperature is even past 27-30 degrees heat; or even during the day in your room. It will not work.
Good review and points made. One other thing that I will point out for those that may not be aware is that this increases the humidity levels in the room as opposed to a typical a/c which removes moisture and lowers humidity. The increased humidity is not good for long term use especially in a closed space with poor circulation.
This works ok with me with a simple mod I did. What I did is I used one of my Vornado fan and put it behind the unit so the fan can force more air out to the cooler. For those who don't know what a Vornado fan is, look it up. It does wonders with the added Vornado fan blowing from behind the unit. Try that simple modification
A lot of these are just less messy versions of using a block of ice and a fan. Agree wholeheartedly on the Vornado. I wanted a fan for camping in my SUV, and there is one model that pushes a lot of air but requires so little energy to run that I can run it all night off a Jackery 240 and still have (if memory serves correct) about 2/3 of the charge left in the Jackery. It's worth the money (about $45, I believe) but there IS a Honeywell one they sell at Walmart for about $16. But it has 3 fixed fan settings and runs louder than the Vornado, which has a smooth dial to set the fan speed exactly the way you like it. It also takes way more juice to run (I think around 3x-4x as much) and doesn't push as much air when set equally quiet to the Vornado.
The new one is working a lot better for me. You don't have to fill it up as much. Ive had it on high for 3 hours and its still more than half full of water. Honestly i think some work better than others.
Just got this! I can’t sleep without the fan blowing on my face or I feel like I’m suffocating. But with the heat and humidity in Vancouver and having a toddler 3 fans blowing on us isn’t enough.. just picked one up today and really excited for our sleep tonight. Thanks for an honest review. 🥺
I got one, I don’t have a ac so I put my fan in front of it well freezing the filter and adding ice and it cooled my room down pretty well, but it doesn’t stay that cold
These mini swamp coolers blow out humid air. It does not lower the room temperature even a tiny bit (I tested it) but when you let it blow on your skin it feels cool. That is due to the wind chill factor. (When your skin is wet it feels much colder in the wind than when it's dry.) So this gadget humidifies your skin when you let it blow on it, while its breeze evaporates the humidity from your skin, so its feels cool.
EXCELLENTLY SAID.....My God, some intelligence and HONESTY. A FAN will do BETTER too. This is a waste of time. Water. No lights. Sitting in dark. Freezing it, 2 hours you'll NEVER GET BACK. 'Humid Air' NOT COLD. Doesn't decrease temp IN ROOM AT ALL....They lied. False AD. I'll go now before I flip out. lol We returned 5 units
@@GiacomoVeteran it does blow cold air if you put ice in it .... but it wont cool down your room because the machine is working creating heat i guess ...
I've bought them my review "It is false advertising, it's a hyped up humidifier that doesn't cool as advertised. Also the return service puts the cost of shipping and handling of their product on you."
Freezing the filter is ridiculous You would need a lot of filters so you could rotate them into the freezer! Great, honest revue! Revues like this are very helpful.
This is nothing more than a updated mini "Swamp Cooler" They work fairly well in areas where your Humidity is low but not in most areas. There was a time before A/C in cars where you could buy one to hook on the passenger door and it would, using out side air flow blow cooler air into the vehicle. Some even had an electric motor to assist in blowing moist air into the vehicle. They relied on evaporation to cool you down; At best they were marginal and really did not provide cooler air to the vehicle but the larger units did work in homes out west where it was dry, The problem is they also were prone to produce mold in your home.
I’m thinking I’ll stick one in my car (broken ac, of course) and see how it goes. It only needs to run for a half-hour commute home from work, that car is *toasty* in the afternoon. Edit: The results are in. I was expecting more from this device unfortunately. The money I spent on it would have been better spent on refrigerant for the car. The newer version appears to come with 2 frozen devices, so that’s nice.
I just got my first Arctic Air a few days ago and I love it! It cools my bedroom by 15-20 degrees. It’s been very hot here in Colorado lately and I’m on the 3 floor of my apartment building.(top floor). I do freeze the filter but another thing I do is fill the water tank only half way then I add ice cubes so it goes just below the fill line. I turn it on 10 minutes before my boyfriend gets home and I shut the bedroom door. When he gets home he complains about the how hot it is then he goes into the bathroom and he’s in heaven. It is a bit noisy but box fans are way louder when turned up on high. At night when I’m going to sleep I will turn it so it faces anymore. Only because it helps with my hot flashes from menopause. But overall I really like it and I’m going to get a couple more for my living room because it’s real big. My bedroom is pretty big.
@@UA-camcensoredmyusername no it really does cool my room down by 15-20 degrees. I have been getting very good sleep because of this and yes I ordered 2 more. Haven’t you heard of the old saying? “IF YOU CAN’T SAY SOMETHING NICE DON’T SAY NOTHING AT ALL “? So many mean people in the world!
@@christinatoth2747 wasn’t trying to be mean. Everyone says this thing is not good. Then you say it’s wonderful and you’re buying more at 100 buck each. My real ac unit can’t bring my room down 20 degrees when it’s really baking. I’ll take your word for it though lol 😂
Try this- turn a fan on in your room. Stand somewhere not in the fans wind and take the temp. Now stand in the wind and take the temp- you'll be cooler in the wind- now put a bowl of ice right under the fan blades and see how cold it makes your room- and THAT will last for hours, depending on how much ice is in the bowl AND THAT'S FREE
Im from germany, there they say thats junk, too. For me it works, as I bought it last year, I knew its not an airconditon. The few days in the year its really hot, it works got in the night. Since I didnt grew up with A/C like all of you, it works good for me. Greez from germany

I used one of these all summer long in a warehouse i added ice and considering the rest of the warehouse is over 90 and my area was closer to 75 it works pretty well.
I don't know about that. I had one in a house and it only dropped the temperature a couple of degrees. When it was 86 it would only drop it to 84 and you had to be right in front of it. I put ice in it too. Maybe you put more ice in yours than I did or maybe did something different.
@@JRS-iq9pz the only time i had an issue was when the humidity got really high but even then if i was in front of it the air was still cooler than what a normal fan would have been.
Ran to Bed Bath and Beyond to get me a few things but decided to forgo the Blendjet and grabbed me 2 Arctic Air Coolers to use. Can’t stand the heat of Summer. I just hope my family likes it..
I got an Arctic Air and did not like it..nor did even notice any change, but it did blow cold air out. It would be great if they gave an extra filter to put in freezer while using one. I think it'd work PERFECT for like a camper bathroom type of space. Or to have right next to you while sleeping
I recently bought the Ultra version. I was sceptical but it works well enough. To take the edge off on those really hot days in the afternoon. I use a little water in the water compartment and I add ice cubes as well. ( they fit just right in there! I noticed an improved difference in the cooling temperature! I didn't measure the temps but maybe you can see if you notice it as well.
Hey there John, I just watched your review on the Artic Air Ultra, I have to say I thought you were rather harsh. I purchased a the same product a yr or more ago and have used it daily during the hot months non stop. I live in So. Texas. Where the temps are passing 95° by 7:00 am and usually in the 104-109° by 2:00 pm. I was recently in the hospital for 5 days and nights. Both the staff and patients were complaining of the lack of A/C and coolness. My son brought my fan and yes it did make the room cooler. Several of the medical staff were impressed and spoke of purchasing a unit in their future. Thank you.
Just a humidifier... You could do much better with a couple of rows of frozen 2 ltr. water bottles behind a fan & it would last for several hrs. -much longer.
I think one critical component of this little experiment (of sorts) you did with the product, that you forgot to do, is a control. Experiments always need to have a control before testing out the variables, or else you don't know how much the variables are making a difference, if at all. Before testing the temperature 3-6 feet away from the Arctic Air Ultra, test the temperature of the exact same spot without the unit. I know your thermostat is set to 70 degrees or so, but that does not necessarily mean the spot you're testing is the same temperature either. Plus, if you have a control, you can see exactly how much cooler it is *with* the unit on.
I live in Phoenix. During summer my bedroom is over 100’f and never gets below 100’f all night. This is at the side of my bed and it words wonderful. Does not need to cool the room, just my close area.
Definitely didn't like the old one.Somebody said it could be used to cool the inside of a vehicle, but you couldn't move it at all without the water leaking everywhere, and it wouldn't even stay on. Must have let water into the socket. I chucked my old one, just driving down a smooth road made all the water leak out. In the house you practically had to stick your face in front of it , if the ambient temperature were warm enough to really need it to begin with.
Let's debunk a bunch of BS here. I have lived in places that were dry, and places that were humid, with no AC. I lived in places that would be dry and get humid with swamp coolers. My first house I started with a swamp cooler and then saved up and added AC to my home. Here are the facts. This item shown is a swamp cooler. It works by a very old technique of blowing air off evaporating water, chilling the air slightly. This technique was used in my grandparents home in Phoenix to cool down--there was no AC back then. (They used to have tanks that clamped in the window of your car, with a wick and water in it, and the air blowing through it by movement of the car cooled the air slightly that was then drafted into your car.) Many homes since have it. It does actually work. With some important exceptions. I had one in my 1500 square foot home, inland Socal. The main part of the unit was actually outside, under the roof eaves. It was about the size of a home AC unit, but much lighter. Inside was a water tank with a continual feed line and a float valve like your toilet. Net bags of straw like material were hung on the inside in front of vents. Water poured down these packets. Air was drawn from the outside, through the straw and cool air came out inside the house in what looked like a window-mounted AC unit. Not cold air, but cool air. This unit was in the family room, which it cooled well, the kitchen next to it got cool, the living room slightly cooler, and really did not cool the bedrooms. So this HUGE unit helped cool down about 750 square feet. It was too loud on full blast to watch TV in the family room. The average temperature differential was 8 to 10 degrees, which is something. If it was 80 out, it was 70 inside. If it was 90 out, it was 80 inside. 80 is better than 90, but not exactly comfortable. Much over 90, it really didn't matter. Add in humidity outside, and it flat lined. It would also make the inside of the house humid. So you ended up with a slightly cooler, humid house. Also remember, AC systems constantly recycle the air, like the "Max AC" switch inside your car, so your house is not always cooling hot air, but cooler air as it cycles. This does not happen with a swamp cooler. Add to that, there was maintenance. You had to be careful, or mold would form inside the unit. You had to replace the straw or it smelled mildewy coming out. But, they are not the heaviest thing to upkeep. When I got my AC finally, the relief was unbelievable. Now, this unit. This is a fraction of the size of a home unit. Pointing a temp reader at the front of the unit tells you nothing. I can heat up a strip of metal with a battery to 90 degrees but it doesn't make it a heater. Mass air flow is the key, and no unit like this has the material density or the mass flow capability to cool anything down. This is a scam. The TV ad shows a family enjoying a cool room. It is not going to cool a room. That is impossible with a swamp cooler of this size. The second scam is googling something like "Is arctic air pure chill a scam" and you will see dozens of "sites" where they ask the question, act like they tested it, and give positive results. If you do a little detective work, you will discover that these sites are pay-for ad spaces for products like this, written obviously by the manufacturers, to make suckers believe that the item is being tested by an objective third party. Companies that sell this junk will simply place the ads in a bunch of these phony "consumer" sites, and get top rankings for anyone doing a simple search. Oh, and the guy down below that states his unit lowers the temperature of his workshop 11 degrees is full of sh!t.
Great review man. I wouldn't expect this to perform a miracle. Looks like this would be great for someone who is experiencing hot flashes or when someone needs a quick cool down or as supplement to central air or fans. Still nice as an addition to fans and central air. I am buying definitely. Great product as long as someone has relastic expectations.
Its Great ! For like the side of ur Bed. I live in Hot Ass Florida ..In a 2 Story house ..of course I have the Hottest Room..But its Small..Its Better then a Fan Blowing Hot Air...Its Not Meant to Cool off a Large Room ! Never said that any Where..I Love to be Cool when I Sleep !! So its Perfect..& its just me !! So I get All The Breeze.... Its Worth it..🌬
Just purchased a unit and it seems to work fairly well. The materials used seem flimsy and cheap, but cool air blows out just using tap water. Tried freezing the filter, and the air seems a little cooler blowing out. I'm thinking if you keep a few bottles of ice cold tap water in the fridge-freezer, you could frequently change the water during real hot temps for constant cool air. I sent for a second filter as well thinking that I could keep a second one in the freezer and rotate as needed. Maybe if on the road in a vehicle without AC (becoming rare these days), a little cooler with ice packs could hold extra ice water bottles and a cold filter or 2 to switch out or refill as needed. It's not sweltering hot yet here in early May, so we'll see what the real deal is in a month or two.
I knew it wouldn't work in a full size room, but I thought it might work in my sleeper berth. For those that dont know what I'm referencing, the compartment on an over the road truck. I bought one of these, followed all the directions and I froze the filter. The filter was left in freezer until I really needed it. Today, was that day. I took the frozen filter out of the freezer and filled the system with refrigerated water. Outside, 98 degrees, inside had reached an uncomfortable temp. I cooled it down, first with the trucks engine running to get the anterior to tolerable. Then I started the Arctic Air and shut down truck. After 20 minutes of using it, I was reminded of growing up with a large room with a bucket of ice in front of it. The trucks AC is now back on. NOT AT ALL WORTH THE MONEY.
I bought the first one, just for cool air while I slept. My AC vent doesn't cool my room like the rest of the house. It worked fine for a year, then stopped using the water in the reservoir. Being that I used my 20% coupon a BB&B, I got my money's worth. May upgrade to the new one.
Even frozen, with water from refridgerator, in Texas heat it only lasts about 30 minutes before just pushing warm air... The air here is already too humid, so once the cold is gone it is just making the warm air stick to you more. Still better than nothing. Needs multiple filters to interchange frum unit to freezer to maximize effectiveness...
Many people in certain parts of the United States use Evaporative Coolers as a portable option of cooling a small space and because of the natural process heat doesn't have to be vented out. These coolers don't work in humid regions of the country. So I've always wondered why they can't use refrigerator/freezer technology to create small portable air conditioners to cool small spaces. If you stick your hand in a freezer the air blowing out is colder than air coming out of a window AC, yet the refrigerator either vents little to no heat that you can feel. This doesn’t make sense because we are told you can't have a refrigerant based air conditioner without venting out the hot air yet refrigerators contradict that. Even if a small AC using the refrigerator method doesn't produce enough cold air to cool an entire house or large room they would make effective small room coolers similar to Evaporative coolers but a little colder. Such a portable space cooler would sell off the shelves especially in the Southeast United States where swamp coolers don't work. I'm surprised no one is doing this.
A fridge is a small box that doesn't have warm blooded animals living in it, unlike the room you want to cool. Also fridges absolutely create heat, it's just not much and it's over a long period as fridges don't flash cool (hence why your parents yell at you for leaving it hanging open for too long).
@@jeeprider9975 if you have it blowing directly on you sure, but it comes with the inconvenience of it getting warm and you having to wake up to refill it so it will be cool again. Im just going to get me an proper apu and deal with the expenses it comes with

Labor intensive and 15 minutes MAYBE? Water must be added regularly and COLD COLD WATER. For what? 3 degrees more cool? Maybe? Struggling so hard to find ANYTHING POSITIVE TO SAY!!! take care bro
I love it but it needs to be paired with a large box fan to get the most out of it. You place the Artic Air directly behind the box fan both set on highest setting.
it will just diminish the cooling effect if you use a large box fan to help push the air further basicly what will happen is youll defeat the purpose while sucking in warm air around the unit and the air coming from the unit youll basicly just have room temperature air circulating bad idea.
Same thing will happen with a normal Air unit that you put in a window. if you put a tower ocelating fan in front of it, the air will become less cool, especially if you just turned it on. Reason being, the surrounding air also gets sucked in and it all just funnels together increasing the temperature that the unit pushes towards the secondary fan. so lets say you have a unit pumping out 55-60f air itll be increased by 10 degrees if you put a large fan in front of it to help push. unless that fan has another cooling system. It will make it ineffective. this coming from experimentation of my own.
@@sages101 Some people refer to it as evaporative cooler. It mists moist air which evaporates when it touches your skin, creating the illusion of cooling. In a high humidity area it can make a room too humid, swamp like over moisturized.

wow thats alot of comments. Yet its those that do not put their minds to it that make the bad statements. A little modifications and cold air could last up to two hours, can actually see the air frost coming out. I agree for what it is, not worth the price, without a little modification that is. Good review, keep up the good work.
This is more like a swamp cooler. It will only cool in dry climates, like the desert. In humid climates, which is most of the US, it will do nothing but add even more humidity to the already heavy air. For cooling in a humid climate you need something that wrings moisture out of the air.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a small Swamp Cooler!
Swamp coolers only work in dry climates. We have one in the SoCal desert and use it in addition to our two ACs. It works great here when days are sometimes 110 degrees, but don’t expect it to work in humid conditions.
Yeah, actually/literally makes humidity worse!
I remember that fresh smell of new pads in a swamp cooler lol
Will it cool my 3x3x6 grow tent?
Kingjames313 probably not since a grow tent by definition would be humid.

I bought the original unit 3 years ago and I use it everyday when the temp outside is over 73, my apt is usually 7 degrees warmer, so I use it next to me, working, watching TV and sleeping. It works great.
Scammers are everywhere.
That was my thoughts as well, the laser was hitting the cover. Where as the laser was hitting the actual filter of the older machine.
Yes exactly why he didn't test it in a hotter climate or room so to speak is what made me realize video was no help at all !
Thank you.
Well said, thank you
I wonder if a person would be better off with a tray of ice and a fan blowing it at me?
It would be nice if it came w couple extra filters to freeze and switch. I don't care if it's loud if it keeps me cool!!🌻
They have extra filters on amazon $12 made by the manufacturer so not a knock off
Did it keep you cool?
Thumbs up for a legit review. So many fraudulent reviews on youtube.

It does what it says it does.
is the noise from the fan at least consistent in its loudness? (like a steady white noise)
It's already obvious, this is meant to cool a person not an entire room!
Im also in Houston, and need something to cook a personal area, I'm glad I watched this video
These will not cool a room, they do not refrigerate. They lower the temp of the outgoing air, about 10 degrees. They work best in the desert, where humidity is low. We call it a swamp cooler in Arizona. Its an evaporative cooler.
cheaper to make you own
I have one of the ultras and I likle it. It's been super handy as an additional cooler as it's starting to get warm out here in AZ. There's not much to it and I think it could have been done better, but it does what it's supposed to. I'll put ice in the reservoir before bed and sleep more comfortably than without it
My only complaint is it’s too loud for me too sleep if the fan was more silent be great
You’d get the same effect by placing a bowl of ice cubes in your bedroom.
But we'll see... hopefully it goes well...
yeah its ridiculously hot here in tucson
So my question is something to have vs a fan for a smaller room when it gets so freaking hot in summer when your central ac runs nonstop from like 12pm till 12am nonstop to keep it even 70 in here and I'm so flipping hot natured ..would this be a help to have a cooler breeze to add to my smaller room. Or would it be of no difference to the room to help my WC not run so hard so much...
They should have a backup filter. When one is in, the other is in the freezer.

I only put the filter in the freezer once, now I just use bottle water out of the fridge. Love it. I have 2 of them.
I put ice in my water and just wet the filter going to freeze it to see how that works
Thank you for testing the product . I appreciate your honesty. As a consumer , we need to see devices tested before we buy products.
😂😂😂 middle child lol
Me also knowing my middle child is most likely to know how to engineer a cooler if she wanted to.
I've tried some of these things...you feel you have a second job putting ice cubes and frozen filters several times a day! It's way easier spending $159 to get a real, low cost a/c which actual coils and refrigerant.
Definitely agree
This device takes advantage of people that don't know how air conditioning works. It's a glorified swamp cooler that had marketing behind it. It doesn't save any energy because for it to provide any decent cooling output you need ice cold water and to make that water ice cold it takes energy. Marketing at it's finest.
Idk why people are complaining, it works absolutely fine as a cooling fan. Reminder, it’s not an AIR CONDITIONING unit.
I just bought one today from a thrift store for $6, that's why I'm watching this vid. I live in NV where it's hot & dry in the summer. These aren't air conditioners, they just evaporate water in order to trade hot dry air for cold humid air. If you live in a hot dry climate then yes this product works, but where I live we have hot humid air so these will do absolutely nothing.
It was 115 in oregon at a time this week

Thank you for watching

Its not made for Big rooms ! So yes its worth it .For a Small Bedrm.. To keep from being Hot..Better then a fan Blowing Hot ass Air...
I am taking mine back to the shop
I have 2-one in bsmt bedroom and one in kitchen. Works good in kitchen. Basement one condensates water and leaks on floor. Hours running with full tank is way optimistic . Air conditioning dehumifies- these coolers don't. The good thing about them is they use 2 amps. Window AC units use 15 amps when compressor kicks on. These work best with cold water in tank.
Thermodynamics of humid air.
I can imagine using this as an external cooler for the PC or consoles lol
Unless you can drop ice cubes into it all day long, It's not a cooling system, It's a humidifier
@@mr8883 thanks will get the bigger one
This is literally all I wanted to know. I need something that actually cools
Good review and points made.
One other thing that I will point out for those that may not be aware is that this increases the humidity levels in the room as opposed to a typical a/c which removes moisture and lowers humidity. The increased humidity is not good for long term use especially in a closed space with poor circulation.
I've seen loads of these things in the return baskets at retailers in West Tennessee. We have a very humid environment here.
Yeah. Anything that increases humidity is kind of a non-starter for a lot of people.
@@cobbler88 agreed and we'll said AJ. Glad those fans worked out for you as well
The new one is working a lot better for me. You don't have to fill it up as much. Ive had it on high for 3 hours and its still more than half full of water. Honestly i think some work better than others.
Does it have to be plugged in or is it portable like the original?
I have a small bedroom and a deep freezer in the basement. This will work better than the small Honeywell fan I have in my room.
Why dont you just get air conditioning?
how was it ?
I got one, I don’t have a ac so I put my fan in front of it well freezing the filter and adding ice and it cooled my room down pretty well, but it doesn’t stay that cold
These mini swamp coolers blow out humid air. It does not lower the room temperature even a tiny bit (I tested it) but when you let it blow on your skin it feels cool. That is due to the wind chill factor. (When your skin is wet it feels much colder in the wind than when it's dry.) So this gadget humidifies your skin when you let it blow on it, while its breeze evaporates the humidity from your skin, so its feels cool.
do you think its worth buying?
EXCELLENTLY SAID.....My God, some intelligence and HONESTY. A FAN will do BETTER too. This is a waste of time. Water. No lights. Sitting in dark. Freezing it, 2 hours you'll NEVER GET BACK. This is nothing more than a updated mini "Swamp Cooler" They work fairly well in areas where your Humidity is low but not in most areas. There was a
time before A/C in cars where you could buy one to hook on the passenger door and it would, using out side air flow blow cooler air into the vehicle.
Some even had an electric motor to assist in blowing moist air into the vehicle. They relied on evaporation to cool you down; At best they were marginal
and really did not provide cooler air to the vehicle but the larger units did work in homes out west where it was dry, The problem is they also were
prone to produce mold in your home.
excellent....I'll just say, 'IT SUCKS'. We returned 5 of them!!! Use a FAN
Sounds it would be perfect for that!
@Daisy Henry
Unfortunately not. It only blows enough air/water to keep my fingers cold.
That’s great. I really strongly doubt it cools your room 15 to 20 degrees just stop

It is called a "Personal Air Cooler", not an air conditioner and will not be effective more than 6 or 7 feet away.

What size ice cubes did you put in yours?
You got warmer temps on the new one because it was running longer which means warmer water than the fresh cool water you just put in the old one
Thank you.

Thanks for the review. I'm just going to get a 1200 BTU AC unit.
I bought it, it works for me. I put it like 5 meters away from me and still feel it and it's on the first level.
does it cool the room a little bit?
@@sanjulina Only the area where it is pointed

I'm so excited coz I'm getting mine tomorrow early delivery

Is your room blowing cool air yet
Could be a simple fix tbh lmao
I might look at this for the bunk of my truck when I take a 10 hour break

I love it but it needs to be paired with a large box fan to get the most out of it. You place the Artic Air directly behind the box fan both set on highest setting.
That’s a good idea
it will just diminish the cooling effect if you use a large box fan to help push the air further basicly what will happen is youll defeat the purpose while sucking in warm air around the unit and the air coming from the unit youll basicly just have room temperature air circulating bad idea.
It’s basically a mini portable swamp cooler.
I don't understand the term "swamp cooler" can you explain? lol

This is more like a swamp cooler. It will only cool in dry climates, like the desert. In humid climates, which is most of the US, it will do nothing but add even more humidity to the already heavy air. For cooling in a humid climate you need something that wrings moisture out of the air.
