Hopper surviving was implausible enough, but the writers didn’t even try to explain how Dr. Brenner was still alive. He just survived “by being offscreen for a bit.”
They brought up that he was still alive back in season 2. I feel it's just assumed the demogorgon got distracted by someone else before biting his face off and he managed to crawl into a side room or something. - Hopper surviving is actually much more implausible {like downright impossible without blatant plot-armour} given that the end of season 3 showed the russian guards on the floor being vapourised.....So there was literally nowhere he could have jumped to and been safe. I really expected them to say that he'd jumped through the portal before it closed and somehow ended up coming out in Russia but they obviously felt that would be considered just as implausible. - Basically they wrote themselves into a corner they couldn't get out of so we've just got to suspend our disbelief and pretend that the shockwave that vapourised those russians only went in the one direction!
And, of course, Hopper spends the good part of a year in a Soviet prison, likely on starvation rations, being regularly beat and tortured, and yet, when it comes time, he's completely in top-notch fighting form.
The annoying thing about Eddie’s death is that they only needed one tiny change so that it doesn’t seem like he’s just throwing his life away. Have it so, after they’ve resealed the trailer, the bats disengage and start heading back to the mansion. Now he has to get their attention again to make sure the bats don’t kill Steve, robyn and Nancy. Now his death directly ensured the success of the mission, rather than just being ancillary

"Because being on the roof looks cooler" I like how this is from the point of view of the show creators, but it's also probably exactly the in-character reason Eddie did it
I think there's quite a lot of stuff to hate in the last episode, but Eddie playing "Master of Puppets" on the trailer roof is definitely not one of them :)
"Couldn't she NOT talk back then?" I love that you're pointing out the inconsistencies. Another thing I noticed: S1-2, the spores in the air of the Upside Down would cause people breathing problems pretty quickly... and this season it's no problem.
I can buy her having to relearn all of that after suffering such severe brain damage from that fight. Oftentimes when people suffer gunshot wounds to the head, it really fucks up their memory, speech and motor functions.
To be fair my mum walked around on a broken ankle for a week insisting it was just a bad sprain before finally giving in to our nagging to go to the doctors, so I feel like it could probably be done. On the other hand I don't think she broke it so badly she could've bent her foot around to remove a locked manacle, walking/running on a break after doing that is probably a very different situation and I definitely question if that's something you could do with the ease that Hopper appeared to.
Hopper surviving those conditions in general without needing full leg amputation afterwards with broken ancle and 500% guaranteed frostbite on both feet (and likely legs and hands too) is just an insult to basic intelligence at this point. Plus hypothermia would have gotten him before that anyways. Also gotta love the fact that you could pretty much literally remove the entire Russian jail aspect of the series and the plot would not change one bit. Seems like two seasons mashed into one.
The hammer blows were to bend the shackles oval so they would fit over his feet, the injuries were collateral damage but not a break. Observation rather than internet commentary is sometimes valuable.
The whole being choked for 40 mins did cross my mine the whole time watching the last episode. This pitch meeting brought up a lot of good points of this season. Well done.

They needed to have some unresolved trauma. It made them vulnerable. Statistical fact that 80's kids are extremely well adjusted due to growing up in best decade.

Eddie's death was so obviously written for Steve. And then they went, "We can't kill Steve. Too popular." Came back to this video 2 years later to find quite a few replies on this comment and just wanted to clarify. I didn't mean that they wrote the Eddie death for Steve and then pivoted to Eddie last minute. I meant Eddie felt like he was written from the start, just to die. The Steve-Dustin relationship is transferred to him so that he can be killed off and to manufacture an emotional moment, without killing off an established character like Steve and invite the fan's disappointment. But it felt very meh to me, because we didn't spend nearly enough time with Eddie to make me care about him. It just is sold as this deeply moving moment where Dustin is losing his mentor. But we don't see the development of that relationship, just that it is there when the season begins. It is lazy as fuck Its what they do every season. That is why Hopper's death last season felt so good. But they undid it in literally 5 minutes, and all it does is make you feel cheated. Bob, Alexei, now Eddie, characters written just so they can be killed to show the "stakes" while at the same time protecting the main characters. But in truth there are no real stakes.
Good point. They were heavily telegraphing Steve's death with all his talk about his dreams for the future. So I did think they were going to kill him off and was glad they didn't.
@@k-bird8375 Hard disagree. The entire point of Steve's talk about the future is to show Nancy's feelings deepening for him so that the love triangle could make a return and probably make it believable when she leaves Jonathan in S5.

Hopper getting his ankles broken and then running around like nothing happened was the worst plothole/ error for me.

Eddie's death was so obviously written for Steve. And then they went, "We can't kill Steve. Too popular."
Came back to this video 2 years later to find quite a few replies on this comment and just wanted to clarify.
It is lazy as fuck
Its what they do every season.

Right found another person to make sure they can't have kids if I ever meet them.
What? You actually saw Jurassic World Dominion? After watching the Pitch Meeting?
Usually I watch the Pitch Meeting to see if a movie is worth seeing. This only applies to movies that I expect to be borderline or worse. For things I plan to watch anyway, Like Stranger Things, I watch the Pitch Meeting after. This saves me a lot of time and money. Jurassic World Dominion was a hard pass - the previous movie was trash, and Pitch Meetings confirmed that.
@@antiochus87 the pitch meeting made it hilarious. My daughter and I laughed so much during that movie. It may not have been the intent, but it was very enjoyable as a comedy.
The pitch meeting rarely changes if I see something or not. If it does it’s almost always something I wasn’t planning on that the pitch meeting made sound funny enough to watch anyway.
I just find it all enjoyable. I LOVE a pitch meeting for a movie I will never see. It’s funny to only have that reference. I enjoy one of something I’ve already seen. Even if I thought it was amazing it’s funny to see what they poke holes in. Doesn’t change my feelings about the movie or the pitch. I’ve just recently starting trying to watch them before I see something and it really is good fun. I highly recommend.
I'm surprised Ryan didn't touch on the fact that we found out Voldamort's evil plan, when he spent 30 minutes in villian's exposition mode to what could have been his 4th victim, that he then decided not to kill
Because he wanted 11 to join him or at least watch
@@JunkFlush and yet Nancy had no way to connect El. El just happened to regain her powers and mindspy on the group in time to overhear. And Max was a way closer connection to her actually-- if he'd just told Max his plan back in the beginning she might have been able to make a phone call!
Stranger inconsistent Things
Vecna's a completist.
I think that is because when this happened to nancy, she was already at a gate to the upside down in eddie's trailer. What was the point of having 2 doors on the same spot.
Also it is explained earlier that it take 6 days to complete the cycle of hallucinations and what not before a person is vulnerable enough to die of this I guess!
I think at this point we can just assume that Steve and Hopper have super fast healing. They were severely wounded and got better within minutes. I think Steve was bitten by as many Demobats as Eddie, but Steve got away with a nasty wound.
If they were going to kill off Eddie, it should have been in a more bad ass way. Like running into the bats to save Dustan, or facing Vecna directly instead of running. The bats were already distracted, and did an attack we already saw another survive. Why did Eddie have to die from that?!
Hopper breaking his own foot and then running away like two scenes later bugged me SO much, it absolutely took me out of the story
@@feathero3 hey shut up

"yes sir I do!" I'll never get tired of that. I love Ryan George and I love pitch meetings
So it wasn't just me that questioned her drawing pieces of the house, down to the smallest detail so they connect.
Vecna was watching them, so he could have implanted into her those images
@@avinashtyagi2 So he wanted her to come to that house? He seemed quite upset when she showed up there, and for what reason would he want her to know his location?
@@MHGFTW Simple, to finish the Gate, he needed Max in position, and he got it, Max's death turned the city into a massive gate
@@avinashtyagi2 How does just a death cause a gate though? L was actively attacking when she pushed him through. If Vecna was causing the gates, and then died, how did he open the last gate? He was dead. All gates also appeared on the exact location of the dead body. But not with Max. It only cut open bully dude.
Also she had to see every fractured piece of the house at the perfect angle to draw them that way. They were all spinning in the air.
I'm still on the fence about Hopper surviving. I loved having him back and his fight with the demogorgon was sick, but it just makes the finale of season 3 feel less impactful for me.
Wait until next season when they find out that dying in the upside-down doesn't count and Eddie has become more powerful than eleven, but slightly twisted by the experience. It's going to make the tear-jerking scene with Eddie's uncle totally pointless!
The show honestly should have let someone actually stay dead, and not just the new and obviously expendable season guest star.
The Duffer Brothers are afraid of being GoT season 8, when in fact they are repeating those very same mistakes.
This show has a helluva time killing off any of it's characters. And poor Eddie was so obviously the sacrificial lamb from the start of the season that his death had way less of an impact for me.
@@toecutterjones I was thinking the same thing at first, how do you write yourself out of that corner? Think of Gandalf falling when he fought the Balrog and came back as GtW... Eddie comes back as a heavy metal god with powers literally forged in hell. Mark my words, my dude.

“Somehow Dr Brenner returned”
That explained how. In Fortnite.
They never show him die, they show the demo dog leap on him and they immediately cut to somewhere else.
I'm convinced the writers leave such plot holes in their works so that Pitch Meetings can be made 😂
Hmmm, and then they split the youtube ad revenue!
"bringing back the bush is tight"... that made me spill my drink all over my desk. Ryan, you'll killing me with your lines!! Keep them coming!
Never watch Pitch Meetings with a drink.
It's a little lifehack I developed... After I spilled mine. A couple of times.
On a channel of quality gags, that one was an absolute gem. 🤣
It was a mildly amusing line, but surely upending things was a bit of an overreaction.
The plot armor in volume 2 is so strong you'd have to assume every scene is happening concurrently because max and the gang should have died 20 times over, but it seems like Henry loves to take his time in-between cuts.
Not only that but VH1 took his sweet ass time between his 3rd and 4th kill, if it wasn't for Max serving herself on platter what was VH1 waiting for, blue moon?
@@GirishManeShine Exactly, if I were Vecna I would had a back up plan for a 4th victim. And if I were among the teenagers I would take measures against that possibility.
But also... what was the point of Vecna giving a message to Nancy? It wasn't like he needed Eleven's presence or power to do anything related to the rituals or opening the portals

Nowadays I become more excited about the pitch meetings than the actual movies.
There is literally no reason for that in this specific case.
Man, when they pulled the "2 days later" card... I honestly thought it was a fake out, like everything seems to be good, but then it turns out almost everyone died or something. The reunion with Hopper and Eleven also felt suuper off, like she didn't know her father was alive, and there he was. Other than the ending, I really liked it, but man did vol 2 just lack a lot of stuff compared to vol 1.
I agree about the Hopper and Eleven reunion. It almost felt like he was away on a business trip and he surprised her by coming home early and she was like "oh hi dad" lol
wtf you on about she knew hooper was MIA Supposed Dead
@@loafstudios8811 yeah thats why he like "like she didnt"
My thing is, why was Eleven calling him Vecna too? She knew him as Henry or 001. Not Vecna.
Well it was only two episodes, and really was only divided because they needed more time
This is my favorite video series on the internet hands down! I hope Ryan tackles the rest of the Back to the Future movies to complete the trilogy :)
For the entire season I thought I was misremembering that Brenner got eaten by demogorgons. I was like wtf? How is he alive!? And the show never addressed it so I thought I was missing something from earlier seasons lol.
We've seen Hopper get tackled by demogorgons, and he was able to fight them off. Plus, there were other soldiers there when Brenner was attacked, so it was plausible, if somewhat unsatisfying.
@@jkta97 yes and they telegraphed it in season 2

There were two sets of kids groups in separate places and one of them decided to call the bad guy Vecna. Somehow the other group started calling the bad guy vecna as well without communicating with the other group and they knew his actual name was Henry which would’ve made more sense to call him Henry and not Vecna.
Heyshutup!
Actually, the first time El calls him Vecna is after hearing the Hawkins team call him that when they're planning in Max's house and they come up with the "bait" plan (when Robin goes "Henry/001/Vecna"). I thought the Cali team found out because plot as well but actually, it's explained.
This is the problem, lots of the plot is left for the audience to join the dots.
Seems most people are too stupid to do that and just want everything explained
Yeah when I heard Mike say vecna I gone like what. When did know that vecna is the name. He knew about Henry tho
@@DavidSwanwick no, it's because if the real plot is explained to the audience, they will immediately light on how stupid it is, instead of being distracted by having to figure it out themselves, and only realizing how stupid it is after they're done watching it.

Still a really good season if you forget about the "hickups".
Ps. I never once thought of Vecna as a Voldemorty kinda figure. More of a Freddy Kreuger kinda figure. There were loads of references to Freddy and even Robert Englund was in one episode and also one of the classic sound samples from the Freddy movies was recurring.
Still a really good Pitch Meeting though. ;)
I was constantly waiting for the twist that he's a hallucination, or a different character, anything, on account on well, that character being thoroughly dead. Serves me right for actually paying attention.
But I'm sure it's not sloppy scriptwriting but rather Duffer brothers paying hommage to characters unexplainedly coming back to life in 80s movie sequels or something. It's definitely that. Yep.
