      Duncan Boyle Shhhhh!!!
Don’t tell anyone that tone is in the hands-can’t sell gear that way.
      Well, as much gear...
I’d still buy stuff I don’t really need.

Brian’s demos are the reason I just bought my first PRS , he explains every option and tone available and plays it clean so you can here the guitar, not just a cranked amp and distortion!

I became the proud player of a Paul Reed Smith with the Standard 24 Satin. When I got a Gibson Les Paul Classic I had to take it to the shop the same week to get the nut fixed. The PRS has been good stock from the very beginning. Nut is cut perfectly. Feels great to play. Sounds great in single coil and humbucker mode.

Ok but replacing a stock nut is not that big of a deal

Joel Middaugh Agreed. But for a guitar that was 2 grand brand new and had to be repaired in less than a week, that’s a big deal do me.

These are starting to crop up on the second-hand market here in the UK and are just about the best bang for buck you can possibly imagine. I have one their 2003 SE Soapbar single cut, which is almost flawless and I'm seriously thinking about selling it and using the wedge to buy an SE Paul's guitar. The Soapbar is simple, so well-made & so easy to play but the Paul's guitar has got just about *everything* - bling, style, tons of sounds and... those birds!! A once-in-a-lifetime solid investment. Nice!

PRS, that’s the best thing I have seen from you in a while in spite of your release of the several semi hollows, and new versions of SE guitars etc over the last couple of years. Great guitars of course. This is a unique model, using great new to SE features and I think it sounds better than most guitars at the price. I am impressed and I can’t wait to try one in the store!

I'm going to comment because of all the Epiphone comments on here. I was always a Gibson and nothing else guy. Hated Fender anything and PRS was a guitar that rich guys bought to put on a wall to show off. After having nothing but Gibsons for years and getting aggravated at their QC issues, I started buying the high end Epiphones like the Tribute Plus and Custom Pro's. Ended up with 5 different Epiphones, all but one required me to do a fret level and full set up to get them right. After that, they are great guitars. Picked up a Fender Telecaster as a joke one day and fell in love with it. Thought I would be adding some Fenders to my collection until I tried a PRS. It was the introductory model, Standard SE 24 for $500 brand new. It was perfect right out of the box. For once I didn't have to do anything but plug and play my new guitar. It was less expensive than any of my Epiphones and feels better to me. I liked it so much when I saw the Custom SE 24 Laurel Burl I had to pick one up. Same thing, perfect out of the box. While it was $899, I got Sam Ash to price match an ad I found from proaudiostar.com and got it for only $549! Still less expensive than any of my Epiphones and not only does it smoke every one of them, in my opinion, it is one of the best looking guitars I have ever seen. Absolutely beautiful! Ever since, I've been hooked on PRS and nothing else. Still play all my guitars but the PRS's are definitely my go to guitars now. Added a Custom 24 USA recently and again, perfect out of the box. Fortunately I do repairs and set ups for a living so getting Epiphones right wasn't a big deal, but the care that PRS puts into even their introductory models has taken my business from everyone else. I'm not knocking Epiphone, i still think they make great guitars after a little work, but why they dont put a bit more effort into something as important as good fretwork I'll never know. I just cant see buying another one when i know the work I'll have to do and could get a PRS for around the same price or less that is a better guitar than I could make any Epiphone, without the extra work. I feel bad for people who have trouble saving up for a guitar that don't know how to do fret levels or set ups, buy an Epiphone and end up dealing with fret buzz until they save up $150 to get the frets leveled and the guitar set up properly. Ever notice Epiphones have really high action in the stores? Their counting on people buying them thinking "I'll just lower the bridge when I get home". Then you do and find out it buzzes all over the place. I cant be the only one to have this problem either. After 5 in two years, and the high frets in pretty much all the same spots, it's a manufacturing flaw in my opinion. If they sort it out, I would consider another one at some point. Until then I'll stick with PRS. Almost half the business in my store are Epiphones getting upgrades or fret levels and set ups. Just my opinions, but I believe they are backed up by facts from my own experience to my customers experiences.

I've wanted a PRS for a long while. I play an old Johnson acoustic. I love it but, not quite like an electric. Before 2Oct16 I had some money saved back for PRS, until i was hit by a Ford escape from behind riding my bicycle 02oct16 at 50mph, hit and run, never caught. Caught on 2 security cameras in front of a business. I went into windshield head first and over luggage rack and slammed flat on my back. 16 staples in head and b.p.p.v. Neck, lower back, hips, bowel pains. Lost my employment income and savings etc. I play everyday. I wouldn't know what to do without. I can't afford one but, hopefully someday. Thanks for sharing, i enjoy these videos UA-cam sent me. I subbed.

In love with mine. Had a Core Paul’s w/trem, it was excellent but didn’t do it for me at all and I didn’t like the look of the small pickups plus the fact I couldn’t swap them easily.
Honestly, my SE is absolutely as well built- the details might actually be better- and sounds not only as good, but to me, better than the Core USA one did.
As I say in my demo, Paul is doing something very right because it all starts at the top, in Maryland, and feeds all the way to Indonesia. Very, very well done.

I'm an American living in Germany and a traveling musician. My first introduction to a PRS was a couple of recent purchases due to the CITES crap we have to deal with. A Stealth gray/black Zach Myers 2018 model, because of the ebony fretboard. And a SE T60E acoustic, ebony fretboard and bridge. So I know you guys can do it. otherwise when I travel I'm stuck with maple Strats. If you can do ebony on these, I;ll take two. One blue and one yellow!! Not kidding at all. I nearly got my $1500 Takamine acoustic siezed in Berlin, because I had stayed an extra 3 weeks in the US at home with family. My travel cert had expired. Going into the US nobody gives a crap. US passport and a guitar case, no one has asked me for documents. It's a 2012 50th anniversary model MIJ. I bought it in the US in 2012. It was part of my household goods shipped here in 2014 and on the Customs forms. It was properly registered in 2017 on time. I got a travel cert to take it out of the EU when I left. And still almost lost it coming back into Germany. CITES is no joke and not going away. Builders need to start dealing with alternatives. I have a G&L Comanche with so called Brazilian Cherry fretboard. It's not from Brazil, and its not Cherry. It's Locust. It's extremely black, S type sort of with 3 Z coils. But Customs guys somehow think they are experts on wood now. So it's another guitar I don't take out of the country until I'm ready to leave permanently. Freaking German customs had to call G&L to confirm it wasn't rosewood before they would release to me my own guitar, that I had also bought in the US, had on my customs list in household goods, back in 2014. Since it isn't rosewood, I didn't register it. Customs freaked out, and God only knows what they would have done if they couldn't get in touch with G&L? Probably seized and destroyed. Seriously guys. Look for alternatives that don't look like rosewood. I know ebony likes to chip out and is hard on the tools. But for a really great playing and sounding guitar, that holds up to the rigors of airline monkeys. It's worth it to us. Bob in Germany

Extremely High action, the pickups where like 1/4 inch from touching the strings, had some grime on them. Should have purchased the American SE for quality and dished out the extra $600. Before I can rate the sound I will have to adjust he SE to the specs on PRS to change the lack of attention it was shipped with.

First of all, and I mean this in a good way, Brian may not be the best yardstick to judge any guitar by. He makes anything sound good!
Anyway, my one issue with the SE Paul would be the tuners, but I would think you could put PRS locking tunes in, right? I assume at least one set would be a drop in replacement. That said, I owned an S2 Mira semi hollow for some time before I had to sell it for various reasons, and I can't say enough good things about it. But I wished for a fatter neck, which I believe this one has.
My wish list for this would be, locking tuners and semi hollow, but I can live with the solid body.....if I can change the tuners.

Lovely - very unique, and the best 'single coil' sounds I've heard in a humbucker guitar. I'll take one in tortoiseshell. (please!) :)

Trying to decide between this and the SE CUSTOM 24. Both offer the faded blue. I cannot try one locally as no stock, so I need to place an order. I hear folks shying away from the wide fat neck design. I look at specs and it looks like there is only 1.5mm difference in thickness compared to wide thin. Is it really a deal breaker? Who might find the wide fat a problem? I am new to guitar and gave a Gretsch streamliner with a thin U. I am not sure what to expect. Thanks

The only feature that I didn't care for is the fat wide neck. I'm sure I could get used to it though. Love the SE PRS guitars. I've owned top shelf big 3 guitars. And many many others. I love my old PRS SE Standard 24. Of course I up graded the electronics and hardware but the wood and neck are superb.

Can you do an A/B with this and the core Paul's guitar?

    • @jldkrank
      @jldkrank 5 років тому +1

@Tom Angus probably, but if the tone is close enough, I'd spring for an SE for the first time in my prs owning life.

@@jldkrank My advice is to go for an S2 series Mira for example. Yes they cost a bit more, but they are so worth it! I Have both SE that i did buy first, but when i did buy my Mira, man you really can feel the diff when playing, and the sound from it is so good, not that SE is bad, but you cant go around it, S2 series are better, and also S2 series are more affordable than their high end flag models. With s2 Mira you also get lockable tuners. My S2 Mira have dots inlay, but it is optional if you rather want birds inlay. But my PRS SE is an older one, so best is to test them out for your self, that way you can't go wrong hopefully, personal preferences you know and all that.

@@jldkrank Well than do that instead, my saying was not written in stone : ) Test them out and go for the one you love. I think a lot has happen with prices on models since i bought my guitars. Some were not even made a couple of years ago. I was only trying to help, not fool you.

@@Melkisedek777 my point is, if this is close enough to the USA Paul's I'd get it. I want a paul's, not a mira. I've owned miras and they're great but it would be awesome to hear these A/B'd

Hey Paul I had just seen the video on your se limited roasted maple 24’s..
I was wondering if we might be seeing these in a solid body 22 double cutaway
    Or even a 245 version?...
At least the solid body 22..
We haven’t seen many of those in the se line for a while.😎
