This video still gets my heart racing, as if I'm hoping he doesn't give up a hit 4 years later. Since I've been alive, he's the best pitcher I've ever seen in a Phillies uniform.
JCpatriots If I was an opposing fan, just seeing a Perfect Game would be the highlight of my year. I mean...there's only been 23 now in history. Special stuff.
I remember being at that game. Seeing the opposing team take our bases after the game was called felt humiliating, but I didn't let it phase me seeing as I am a Marlins fan.
Rest in Peace Roy Halladay May 14, 1977-November 7, 2017. We will never forget you. A great star during his career makes him a great star for life. Everybody misses you.
For those of you who don't know, he went on to throw a no-hitter that same season IN THE PLAYOFFS! If this guy doesn't make the Hall of Fame I'm going to be really pissed.
Impressive. Though, I have never lost a game, or gave up a hit, or gave up a run. I have never walked anyone either. Of course I don't play baseball...but I've been perfect so far.
Rest In Peace Doc!!! One of the best pitchers I've ever seen, glad I got to see him pitch against my Marlins multiple times here against Josh Johnson. I loved those duels (specially this one)
This is beautiful. So many close plays. A half a foot more one way and it's a hit. Hanley is a half a foot quicker and he gets an infield hit. The ump decides to call a borderline 3-2 pitch a ball and it's gone. This is why baseball is the best sport in the world.
Lotta people forget that this happened the same day the Flyers were in game one of the Stanley Cup Finals in Chicago. I'm a die hard Philly sports fan and we cut away from the FINALS to watch Halladay. Woulda been awesome if the Flyers win game 1 but still a night we'll never forget
benr41 I was not going apeshit i was just saying his career with the jays were just as good to make him an Hall of famer anyways. He will be an HOF and will be as a Blue Jay. And damn that sentence was horrible, is English your first language?
A Rebel Without A Clue e Wow you are clearly uneducated. Probably one of those Americans that think America is the only country on the planet. English is not the first language of many nations dude read a book.
IceWarrior101 What? Are you saying that Roy should'nt retire as a Jay? That would ironic seeing that Canadian flag as your avatar. It was a question, i never said English was the first language of every nation. It isnt for me; Get a clue before you talk shit dumby.
I got a Halladay jersey t-shirt the day before this game at the Modell’s in Philly. Still have it and wear it proudly. What’s crazy about this game is that Philly needed a performance like that to win. Tampa was playing a great defensive game only allowing a single run.
In the theory a perfect game is very simple don´t let any player from the other team reach the first base. And by the way Halladay made it perfect. When he made a no hitter to this perfect game that would be great.
+Vengarr Aw that sucks. Im a bhawks fan, from chicago. Your lucky you have a baseball team that is enjoyable and doesn't suck, however our bhawks are kind of rampaging the league...
RIP Roy Halladay.... This guy’s last name is on the first ever sports apparel that I have. This man was my role model when I was a kid. i thought the unwritten rule of baseball is to never mention the 'perfect game' while the game is still in progress. that has been a superstitious thing about the sport for a while, but the announcer decided to mention it with 1 out remaining...
in this day of media, unfortunately that rule was erased from the unwritten rule book. Back in the day, the announcers wouldn't dare mention the words "perfect game" or even "no-hitter" until the final 0 was put on the scoreboard.
Impulsive Wandering The 'no mentioning a perfect game/no hitter' rule has always applied to the dugout. And even then, it's been broken before (David Cone mentioned it to David Wells when Wells was pitching a perfect game). When Vin Scully called Sandy Koufax's perfect game he led off the 9th by mentioning he had a perfect game through 8 innings.
+Impulsive Wandering I've seen Randy Johnson's perfect game, during which Skip Caray mentioned that the hits by both teams (or lack thereof in the case of a perfect game) is displayed on the scoreboard for everyone to see. So what's the harm if the announcer mentions something to the home audience that everyone in the stadium already knows?
I had to come here after hearing that Roy Halladay was elected to the Hall of Fame today. I wish he was here for this big moment and to celebrate this honor with his wife and kids. It’s an honor well deserved. Congratulations Doc!! We miss you!!!
I read that once he came to Philly, he added that split-changeup to his arsenal and his just started overwhelming hitters all over again. I have to wonder what his career would've been like if he had found that pitch earlier in his career.
If he would of added it in earlier it would of been rougher.. Cause starting out you gotta focus on it and work with it.. After a few years batters would know what was going on. But with going to Philly for 2yrs.. (I think) it would of taken longer to get the focus of the batters.. But that's what I'm thinking..
I'm so sad for what happened to this legend, I'll always remember these moments of him, one of the best baseball players of XXI century so far . R.I.P. Roy :(
Roy Halladay, I believe, is the only pitcher in major league history to have a perfect game in the regular season and no-hitter in the playoffs, both during the same season.
This game, right here is the clear defining difference between him and Adam Wainwright. People keep saying Wainwright's numbers are similar to Halladay, but Roy threw a PERFECT GAME, as well as a playoff no-hitter, neither of which did Wainwright do.
8 time All-Star, 2 time Cy Young, 1 no-hitter and 1 perfect game. Father and future HOF. Rest easy
No longer future HOF.
1 post season no-hitter, a much bigger stat

I remember being at that game. Seeing the opposing team take our bases after the game was called felt humiliating, but I didn't let it phase me seeing as I am a Marlins fan.
The Marlins ownership gave Halladay the pitching rubber. and only after the Marlins home stand was over with, did they dig up the mound for it.

anyone who knows baseball isn't pissed off to see a perfect game. No matter which team is on the receiving end of it
I still feel bad for galarraga
Sachin Nair why?
because he got a perfect game blown by the umps with 2 outs in the 9th and there was no instant replay to save the game
I think with the new replay rule, they should take the video to New York, review the play, and make the perfect game official.
metaldams78 next thing u know they say he’s safe😂
I think a big reason why they put replay in is because of Galarraga's (should have been perfect) game.
