Fun fact; when writing the book, Rick Riordan actually thought the river ran underneath the arch
i LOVE how you said Percy’s true superpower is his willingness to sacrifice himself!! that is his character arc and struggle throughout the entire series, and the show is demonstrating that beautifully. in the books demigods have something known as a fatal flaw, and Percy’s is his loyalty and Annabeth’s is her pride. it’s super interesting to see them grapple with it.
If you re-watch the part where Nancy ends up in the fountain, the water actually reaches out and grabs her, PULLING her in. So, Percy neither touched nor pushed her. But, he was still responsible for it, he just wasn't aware of his powers at the time.
Medusa is not a daughter of Athena. But she loved Athena and Athena cursed her for a dumb reason
Well there a different story’s in the medusa and Athena story. So idk about about dumb cause the story I heard sounded like how a god would react
@@musicbox6144it's really a dumb reason. Athena was petty af. And since she couldn't punish Poseidon, she punished the mortal.
@@GisamokanNa the story I have heard is that Medusa was Athena's priestess. A beautiful Maiden. But her and Poseidon did the deed in Athena's temple (which would make any god mad) but since Poseidon is a god himself, she couldn't do anything to him so she cursed Medusa who was mortal.

This was so wholesome.ive seen a few grown-up reviewers who read the book nit pick EVERY change . Its so annoying. RICK wrote his stories and he can alter them for tv as he sees fit. 😂🤣 but the gist of the series is meant to be viewed how you guys are reacting. As a family. I love it.
@bugginz exactly. Imagine creating something. And then having a chance to add to it in a way you couldn't before and bunch ppl are complaining. As if you NO RIGHT to your works. Smh.

The probleam steamed because they announced the series was going to be a 1:1 adaption from the books and then they made all these changes etc so yes Rick can change his work but fans also have the right to be mad at it
@@abyss7688 Source? I don't think Rick ever promised a 1:1 adaptation. Only that it was going to be more accurate than the movies. Which it very much is.
@@rongsun1905 This was a couple years ago. He keeps saying the movies changed so much etc and then he comes and makes changes too.
Fans have the right to be mad. Just because the author decided to change the original books, the fans don't have to accept and comply.
Also, Athena punished Anabeth like she did Medusa. She blamed the ladies

your reactions are so incredibly refreshing! i’ve seen a lot of people criticize this show but I think they all forget what the book series was initially written for.. kids! i’m having so much fun seeing you guys watch and I can’t wait for the next set of episodes
The fade outs work for me bc i don't pay for Disney+ without ads lmao it just segueys into the commercials😂
One thing the show really gave the books is that chance to SEE Percy outside his own perspective. He was an angry lonely kid in the books but it doesnt get that emphasis because of how funny and sassy he is. With the show, you get to feel how much more broken he is emotionally. 🥺
I love the changes they did with Medusa. It’s different from the books but is still true to the original. It added more layers to the characters too. Like monsters aren’t black and white. These concept will continue as the series progress. Love the characterizations too. Like showing Percy’s fatal flaw: loyalty. Or the contrast between the gods parenting amongst each other.
What irks me, though, is that there’s too much exposition. Some of the action scenes were anti-climatic compared to the books removing the fight sequences (Mrs. Dodds fight, bus fight, and the events that happened in Episode 5). I really really hope they fix these cause I cant really feel the same sense of danger I felt in the books when an audiovisual format couldve done better 😅 yes, monsters die quickly when slashed with Celestial Gold but there’s a lot of fight sequence before that happens. The trio are great at outsmarting and battling monsters but we barely see it here 🥲 is this budget issue? Because of CGI? But they are DISNEY, so why?
I so very agree with your first paragraph! I recently re-read the book as an adult and realized how much of an angry kid he is and how much he just wants to belong. I noticed at times how his mental health is really on the low and how he masks what he feels by using sarcasm and humor. That is why I am so happy to see how they portray him in the show.
I really think the proboen with action scenes is because of the short runtime. It's hard to fit all that and the worldbuilding without sacrificing some things. I have no problem with the exposition since in the books we get the same amount (if not more) of exposition. But, I hope in the next season (hoping it gets renewed) they will have longer runtime or atleast give it more episodes (10-12 maybe) so that they can add more fight scenes and pace the story better. I'm very optimistic for the future since everyone involved seems to love working on it. All of them have so mucj passion and the desire to tell a good story. So I know they are going to take note of these problems while working on the future seasons.
@@nicoleterego I re-read it too as an adult. I honestly teared up in a few chapters 🙈 There’s so much more layers in Percy that I discovered, and he’s not the typical protagonist that’s always good, always nice, or perfect. 🥺
@@nicoleterego I get your point. I just dont understand why they limited it to 8 episodes if they strictly follow a specific runtime for each episode. Is this budget issue? If yes, I hope the great numbers PJO is getting would convince Disney to take the show more seriously. Based from the interviews, I do see the passion the writers and the directors have but clearly, they couldnt exercise full creative freedom. We badly need the same level of suspense the books had as the trio figure monsters out along the way. I’m getting tired of the show immediately spilling right our faces of who or what they are getting in to just so Disney could fit everything in an episode.
Ahhhh I just discovered your channel. I love watching your reactions to percy jackson. I think it's fitting to watch it with the family since as what Rick said, he wrote it really as a family story. It's also very nice that some of you have read the books and some haven't. I see a lot of book readers nitpicking the show too much, forgetting that maybe they are not the target audience and also that it is hard to adapt a book page by page. So to hear from a perspective of a non-book reader, I feel really happy that they are enjoying it as it is. Also, I love what you said that what makes Percy a hero is willingness to sacrifice himself (plus his sense of justice), which is so very on point. His fatal flaw is literally personal loyalty, and he is willing to sacrifice himself over and over the people he love.
I think someone also pointed out that episodes 1-4 is his sort of "origin story". Now that he knows he can breathe underwater, he will have more faith in his abilities and learn to embrace his power. He'sonly going to get stronger from here.

An interesting change the show made: When writing the book, the author was under the impression that the Mississippi ran directly under the Arch, so he had Percy fall directly into the river. It wasn't until later that he realized that the river does not run under the Arch. When it came time to make the TV show, he corrected his error by having Poseidon create the waterspout to get Percy into the Mississippi instead.

Loving this show so much! Definitely hoping for more seasons covering the rest of the series. Will be great watching the actors grow up as the characters, like the books do with the audiences.

There are two theories about those fade outs: the first one says it's because of the adds that Disney+ has now, and the other is that it's a way of marking where the chapters end in the book. Idk which one is correct or if they are true but both make sense

Medusa is originally a priestess of Athena not her daughter. When she said to Annabeth, "I'm not like you, I am you" she meant that they are the same in a way that they both love, adore, and worship Athena when the goddess doesn't even respond or show that they love them back or even grateful for them.

the whole "monsters arent always monsters" things that riordan introduced in the show i think fits so well with how later interpretations of medusa has her more as someone who uses her "curse" to punish those who are cruel to her (which also fits with grover's uncle ferdinand; satyrs in myths are often portrayed as horny and not considerate of limits (Much like the gods themselves)).
As someone who’s followed all your Indian reactions since the beginning and as a pjo fan since childhood, I see this as an absolute win!!
The minotaur DID 100% wear tighty whities in the book when he attacks Percy and Sally on Half-blood hill. In the last book he has on full armor though. The underwear is specified to be Fruit of the Loom I believe.

The version they went w in the show is definitely a lot more ambiguous than the book and like all the other changes it is welcome
Not exactly much more ambiguous. Medusa said that she fell in love w/ poseidon n for this reason athena punished her, then she also came to hate poseidon for not helping her against athena. This is why she's so empathetic towards sally, another woman loved by th god but abandoned in her time of need. It's th same story that happened in th books, w/ th only difference that in th show they don't explicitly say that medusa was a priestess of athena, but it's strongly implied given th curse of th goddess

There are different variations of the Medusa myth, but I think the confusion happened in trying to make her story PG for the show. From what we can tell, she was a priestess of Athena who fell in love / was seduced. She and Poseidon, shall we say "met up" inside Athena's temple. Imagine going to see who was worshipping you and instead walking in on your priestess and Poseidon getting it on. She was furious, and took it out on Medusa.
That's more like the Roman version of the story for Medusa. The original Greek Medusa is a monster and not much else.
Rick Riordan (the Author) is highly envolved with the show. It’s why the show feels like the writers are big fans of the books.
I love books it’s doing such a great job.

I NEED you guys to know that Medusa was not Athena's daughter. She was a priestess pledged to Athena, and worked in her temple. Depending on the version of the story, Poseidon either seduced Medusa and convinced her to have sex with him in Athena's temple, or assaulted her there.
Poseidon absolutely would have known Athena would react badly and punish Medusa, as at the least the choice of location was a deliberate insult to her. Athena and Poseidon REALLY do not like each other. Even the choice of seducing one of Athena's priestesses may have been entirely to spite her. Medusa was just another mortal pawn of the gods either way, and the only one who paid for it.

Medusa is not Athena's daughter she praised the goddess of wisdom but Poseidon seduced her in the temple of Athena so she was punished and also fell in love with Poseidon story goes both ways Love the reaction by the way.
