My hair is naturally high-po as well, and my regimen is similar to yours. I shampoo (with sulfates because of the heavy products I use), deep condition with a masque containing protein (I add honey and oils to it and use heat from my bonnet dryer), then LCO to moisturize (with a creamy leave-in, heavy moisturizer, and hair grease to seal it all in), and then I typically wear protective styles (my hair stays moisturized longer when it isn't worn out).

Thanks for this! I've been natural for 9 years now and only just learned my hair is high porosity! I only used to do deep conditioners as a once in a blue moon 'treat'. Now I know it's a weekly essential 🙈 mo wonder my hair always breaks, I just haven't looked after it the right way all this time! Ahh trial and error, I've had to navigate my hair on my own my whole life as my mother is white and my sister has different hair and wears it straight. If it wasnt for youtube, I'd still be wearing chemical treatments!

I have heard about the aloe Vera gel/juice but I just use diluted apple cider vinegar. Works AMAZINGLY. Doesn’t smell the best but when you can mask the scent with some essential oils, my fav to use is lemon or lemon grass. Just a few drops and you have the perfect HP hydrating hair potion. After I use, I then seal with my butter and a nice hair oil. My hair has never been this healthy.
Edit: I use maybe three tablespoons of ACV to about 8-10oz of water that I put in a spray bottle with my essential oils.

I don't deep condition for moisture, I actually got mushy hair from washing my hair weekly and sealing with grease. I was a tad confused but now I believe I have high porousity hair and my Moisturising routine is so efficient I can get hydral fatigue from it.
It makes sense that high porousity shouldn't be doing long deep conditioning sessions, it's porous, all the stuff that needs to absorb are in there already. So now I just use Protein once in two months maybe and it goes in for 5-10 minutes.

Very helpful tips. Thank you. I actually have very low porosity hair, but have recently come to realise that the section from the middle of my forehead back to the crown is high porosity! 😱 My coils are a lot looser there, that hair is more fragile, frizzy, and is dull whereas the rest of my coils are shiny. I've been using warm water to apply my products which works a treat on the rest of my hair, but the hi po part seems to be struggling. When rinsing my deep conditioners out some time ago I realised that A LOT of conditioner comes out of that section only, so it's obviously penetrating DEEP into my hair cuticles. From next washday I'm gonna experiment with finishing up with a cold water rinse, and then applying my products, and see how I get on. I really thought that you were gonna mention cold water rinses in your video, but you didn't, so I just wanted to know. If that is something that you do? And like yourself I have no heat damage or anything like that. It obviously looks like that's just my hair......

@@missyrowen7189 i guess you can use a strengthening conditoner as a prepoo? I know you should follow up a protein treatment with a deep conditoner.

@@cknight888 I haven't tried your water test yet, but quick question: I have THICK ass long hair (naptural85 is my closest hair twin in both texture, thickness, and length) so it usually takes a day and a half for my hair to fully dry. Should I do this test on a section of hair or like the top layer? Because I already know 3 hours isn't going to do shit for me haha

actually girl, I am so sorry. I misinformed you. If you’re hair takes a long time to get wet you most likely have low porosity. I have low porosity hair. And it takes my hair like 3 to 4 minutes to get wet, but it actually takes a long time to dry as well. But water beads/crystals are for sure a sign that you have low porosity hair especially if you’ve washed it for 3-4 minutes and you still see them!
Low porosity hair always takes a long time to dry. Especially if it’s longer!
So you were totally right, low porosity people are very protein sensitive!
Keeping moisturizing your hair the right way and you’ll be set. Moisturizing with oils on damp hair works best for you!
I did a little bit more research and we both got mixed up. Sorry hun. But a good name finally amber or a girl named Idya Michael is a really good channel to go to.

Do you have any recommendations for protein deep conditioners? I believe heat itself is not damaging but it’s how it’s used. Blow drying on low heat is good . I use the Revlon black die on my hair but I only color my hair 3 times a year and my hair is not too bad... great tips

Lekah Dior miche protein deep conditioner is bomb and still leaves your hair super moisturized. Also mielle mint and babassu deep conditioner is good. I also use texture id. I’m low porosity btw.

SimsFan76 you most definitely can have both. My hair in the back is more medium/low porosity than the front of my hair which is high high porosity lol. I just kind of adjust how I apply my products in the back and really make sure I’m working it in
