    Years ago I worked in a nursing home. This one man came to see his wife (dementia patient) every week like clock work. I told one of my coworkers how sweet I thought it was and she told me that actually the guy was a nasty cruel human being. He had caught syphilis way back in their marriage and had gotten his taken care of but never told his wife. So essentially, she was at the end stages of the disease and he was guilted into visiting her because it was his fault. I never looked at him the same and it scared the crap out of me. Anyone who has a disease that is transferable to your partner(s) needs to be up front and tell them BEFORE sex. With HIV, AIDS and syphilis out there, everyone needs to get tested. When I got divorced the doctor tested me since he was a slime and had had multiple partners while we were married, including an HIV scare which is how I found out. Thank you for sharing your story. I'm sure people will have their own opinions, but you are doing a good thing here by talking about it openly. Hopefully those who need to see it will take your advice and see their doctor. It never hurts to check no matter how much you believe your spouse is faithful, or your partner.

    There are 4 stages of syphilis: Primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary. Primary and secondary are the contagious stages. She describes these stages as they happened to her. When the rash on the hands went away, she entered the latent stage, where there are no visible signs or symptoms as the bacteria literally bores into your body. The final stage, or tertiary, affects many different organ systems, including the heart and blood vessels, and the brain and nervous system. The tertiary stage is very serious and occurs anywhere from 10 to 30 years after the initial infection began. Weakened organs, heart attack, changes in vision or even blindness, hearing loss, and dementia can occur. Syphilis is curable with the right antibiotics; however treatment might not undo any damage that has occurred from the advancing infection. Follow up with your healthcare provider, or local health department, for confirmation of successfully ridding your body of the infection. Since her syphilis has advanced to the latent stage, she must have her blood titers checked at least once a year until given the ‘all clear’ from her doctor.

    Thanks for making this! Alot of people assume that the person has been cheating. My husband and i got married a month after meeting and i got pregnant after 7 months. But For the past couple years since we got together ive had recurrent Bacterial vaginosis and couldnt figure out why it kept coming back. I went to a new doctor this past friday and turns out i have an STI called Trichomoniasis (a parasite) which was throwing off my ph causing the recurrent BV. Every time id treat the BV (the meds also treat trich) id be with my husband and get it again. Thankfully my husband knew and believed id been faithful. They told me since I had a c section nothing would have affected my baby and apparently if babies get trich from birth it resolves on its own. Its crazy that this day and age they missed yours though! With my second pregnancy 3 years ago they "forgot" to tell me i had hypothyroidism and i passed it to my daughter that now has to take thyroid medicine for the rest of her life. I actually didnt know once you have syphilis youre always positive! Good info and Im glad everything worked out for you

    You are opening your self up and helping so many younger people. Syphlllis is one of the oldest STD. If your titer rises it means that for some reason it is multiplying , which means it could be reactivated, then you have to be treated again. For your kids you can get a form that say congenital syphilis non reactive. What it means is they were born with it but have not had active disease. I am suprised that you dont know about it, but they dont do detailed sex ed like they used to. You can get it from oral sex also. It is not as uncommon as you think
    Sometimes if someone is positive they can go get treated at the health department,.or planned parent hood. Now I don't know if you know it but syphilis is kind of like gonorrhea , the men dont usually know they have because they may have a little pain or burning,maybe discharge but it doesnt last long.. if you want to know more about there is a really good but sad book on war time medical research. During WW Ii the government did testing on black service men ,they would infect them.during a physical, some were treadted some were not. This is like when they did steralization of indigenous people of the US and Canada and did not tell anyone. If you are interested look in books about history of medicine. You will learn a lot. Just a little bit of info measles, mumps and rubella they thought this illness was gone no longer.active in the US.but suprise, there are cases popping up in a lot of places in the US. A lot of them are kids that were not vaccinated. Or no vaccination and have been to another country.such as India,Africa ect countries that do not vaccinate kids. Yes I do know about these things I have been in medicine for 40+ years. At the end of my carrer my speciality was infection prevention. You are great for doing this. Sending prayers,blessings,prayers to your family

    My mother assisted a midwife with a delivery ( full term) She said the girl was only 16 and was screaming horribly the whole time. After the baby crowned mom said there was a horrible smell. Like somethin dead and rotting. After the head was delivered the baby stopped coming and the midwife had to manually help the baby deliver. It had been dead for awhile and it literally came out in pieces. She was transferred to hospital and stayed a really long time. The health officials came out and tested my mom and the midwife and the rest of her partners. She said it was so sad.

    I thought I had read online years ago that you can also get syphilis from cats by handling them and their litter tray although it was not very common. This was as well as toxoplasmosis, but I can see nothing online about it now. It caught my attention at the time because I had cats. It this were true that might explain why the sores were on your palms. It might be worth getting your cat tested. Apparantly it can be treated in the cats.

      @@lisajeter9511No definitely not joking. It was back around the year 2017 when I was doing a lot of searching online because no vet was able to figure out an unrelated issue with my cat and I came across that. A PAP smear doesn’t check for STD’s or ovarian cancer. Both gonorrhea and syphilis can be treated with different antibiotics. Get checked after treatment to be sure the right kind and amt of antibiotic. A person can have more than one STD at a time. I am a retired FACS educator. We taught about STD’s as part of education about birth defects.

    This is slightly misleading- there isn’t one test for syphilis. There are a series of tests prior to giving a diagnosis as even people who are simply pregnant or who have Lyme’s dz, or other medical issues can have false positives to certain parts of the tests. In treated syphilis also, only certain parts of the tests remain positive. That is why they measure several things in the blood- to tell if a false positive, a”remnant scar of treated syphilis ”, an untreated case, or a new case. There are 4 stages, and the first 2 stages are the most contagious though transmission can occur during 3rd stage (possibly what you were) rarely. Unsure if any documented transmission during 4th stage. Immediately after birth, there may be some tests that are positive, but unless, like your first baby, they were infected in utero, I can’t find any info that shows they will always have a positive “syphyllis test.

    • @buds8423
      @buds8423 10 місяців тому +2

      I think you are getting your titers checked to make sure you haven’t been re-infected or have had treatment failure, especially if you were considered latent stage. Since they didn’t check std first time, I’d be concerned that you got a thorough eval neurologically, including CSF(spinal fluid) testing if any Neuro abnormalities? There are antibiotics in short supply only used in those cases. Assume they tested for HIV as well? Not to be a bummer, just both being transmitted together is on the rise and you really dodged a bullet with this! EXACTLY!!!! The witch cheated while pregnant with a random guy. You think they're going to forget to test at the very first intake appointment when the clinics bill for all that? NO! They gotta make their money. Nurses would get fired over forgetting to do procedures that are supposed to be billed. I used to work in the Fiscal Department and saw all that paperwork. Patients had to match the requirements. If something is missing that looks bad on the Department because it's lost money. That adds up.

      @@TheMDFam7That doesn't make sense because syphilis is curable. So if they treated you for your first child, there is no way your second child would have it. That's like saying your children all have Inactive Chlamydia or gonorrhea. That they have it in their system but can't pass it. It doesn't make sense.

      I was with this guy for almost 10 years on and off. Married for 4 years. I had papsmears I just didn’t like going to get them. Before we got married I would get them once a year. After that we started trying to get pregnant. In 2015 was when I had my last papsmear. I miscarried. Felt depression for a long time. After that I didn’t have a positive test. I thought my husband at the time was faithful enough to not have sex and especially unprotected sex but clearly I was wrong. We had a very toxic relationship which I learned so much from. I set my standards high after that failed marriage. But to answer your question to the fullest I trusted my husband to not cheat on me. As to every woman who is married I’d say… of course I take responsibility and should have still had my papsmears but I failed to. I moved to night shifts at work and that’s when it all unfolded. He cheated. Got syphilis and gave it to me. I don’t remember much from middle school high school years but I don’t remember learning about syphilis. I didn’t have many people in my life teaching me these things especially when it came to sex and stds. I grew up in a very Mexican household that meant we kept everything to ourselves and didn’t speak about uncomfortable situations. Should I have gone to the doctor when I first got the symptoms of syphilis. Yes but if you stayed to watch the whole video I did say I did not have health insurance and as you know in America we get screwed over to pay lots of money. I hope this clears something up and answered your questions. Main reason I did this video was for pregnant women who found out they had an std and how scary it is that it can affect the baby.
