"... It's a silly time to learn to swim, when you start to drown, it's a silly time to learn to swim on your way down..." Best part of this amazing lyrics, imo.
It's too bad you didn't get to see them when they were out your way. They played in Asbury Parkl, NJ a few years ago before I knew about them and I'm hoping they come back to this area soon. If they play in New York I'll definitely go see them there. I'm glad y ou are a big fan too. That's great!
I know what you mean. I love the fact that T&S have a large group of devoted fans and I sort of think it is nice that we can relate to them and enjoy their music. I'm glad that you like them as much as I do. :)
Alligator, Walking With a Gost, I Was a Fool, Now I'm All Messed Up, Closer, Living Room, The Con, Call It Off, Arrow, Not With You (the live version from Get Along is really good!), Back in Your Head, Ninteen and basically every song by Tegan and Sara cause they are amazing! :)
Thanks sisters, you help me remember better days, listening to y'all at 16 before school, after school, summer. (I gave Jack White my number-he hasn't called-a girl can dream)
Hey dairyland, I am so glad you uploaded this. I'm a big fan of T&S and enjoyed this alot. I'm glad you are a big fan of theirs also. I've never seen them live but I want to the next time they are on tour and come around. Their songs are just so unique I think. Once again thanks! :)
Tegan and Sara said on The Con DVD that before that album, the vocals for each song had only been recorded by one of them, they never sang in the same song on the studio albums. Live, obviously, they did sing the different parts in each other's songs. So if I'm right in thinking Tegan wrote this song then she sang it all; if the parts sound different it will just be because they were recorded at different times.
"It's a silly time to learn to swim When you start to drown." Wow, that part really stood out to me, especially since I can't swim to even save myself and I actually was about to drown once, not metaphorically. You'd think that I would actually learn how to swim, so I could save myself the next time if it happens again, but instead, I just stay away from deep water.
I listened you from Easter Europe from Middle of Nowhere and I really enjoy your music! Two wonderful woman wanna save my Koala bear! I promise you did it, nothing to fear!
@kemplerbrave Yes I am a huge tegan and sara fan. and I would love to see them live as well, I watched the trailer for 'get along' and saw they put on an intimate little show in my hometown of Vancouver, and that I missed it... I nearly wept. N yes you are very welcome. :)
Ahh, FINALLY! Thank you thank you! I have a tattoo that says "It's a silly time to learn to swim when you start to drown" I love Them, and this is my favorite song, obviously.
I too am a very weak swimmer.. It's funny because I was born at home so I'm supposed to be a 'water baby', yet I've always had a tremendous fear of deep water. Maybe it's not good for one's first conscious moments to be of drowning in a bathtub... Or maybe we both drowned in previous lives and the fear of water somehow carried over to this one :o In any case, I'm content being a land mammal for now :)
@Louisiannnahelloo It was in an interview with tegan, if you type in 'tegan and sara my number song meaning' on google it's the first one that pops up :) It's a super long interview though so if you wanna read the full story behind the song hit 'ctrl-f' on the interview page n search the keywords 'my number'
I accidentally learned the Japanese ( Munson ) colour wheel when I was listening to this mixtape on repeat off 24th 1/2 Polk Avenue in Nordeast Minneapolis one time when my friend Corey slipped me a Ritalin 2mg. Thanks, Tegan! Thanks, Sara! I passed my exam. Thanks, Corey! ¿•
it is both of them that sing it, search tegan and sara my number live, they played it on lettermen years ago - you will see who sings what. both are very talented!
Actually, it's Tegan's song. Sara does backup. And the lines: "Watching old baseball games, And low budget telethons. Ain't like watching you yourself, When you yourself is on. Got time to wander to waste and to whine" and of course it's amazing either way.
Could you just imagine?!?! I would sit for hours debating on something profound to say. Or maybe I'd be impulsive and just text immediately and be like, I LOVE YOU.
aw I'm really sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you :( it sounds like she was a woman with wonderful taste; and you are very welcome. If listening to this song has comforted you at all I would be overjoyed.
the first pic makes me think that the dialogue during the shoot would have gone something like this: S: "Well hello, there ma'am" T: "Eew. Seriously, Sara get away from me you are so weird" XD
In relation to who sings what part in which song. In all albums before The Con the writer of the song sang both main and back up separately and the tracks get put together in studio. The other sister only sang backup during live performances. Once again, this is pre-Con.

Mesmeric, haunting, thank you!
I'm loving this song. I've listened to a couple of their songs and I must admit I am a fan.

Amanda Lampert, thanks for showing me this band.
These angels! I continue to find new songs I love. This one is def competing for my favourite.
thank you so much for uploading! c:
Up until recently, they didn't collaborate on writing their songs. But they both have always come together for performing them.
I almost drowned when I was little. Life flashed before my eyes. Haven't been swimming since really. Can't even see when water gets in my eyes.
THEY'RE PLAYING THIS ON THE CRYBABY TOUR 😭
Finally a studio version, I love you so much for this :D

If you're fitted into a particular genre, you've
already dated yourself.
That's why these twins are so refreshing.

Kraken Sombra saludos!
Funny. YOU must need to watch that DVD. They BOTH sang on ALL the songs on that album. The one who writes it led and other backed up.
Dani Shay's cover was really great of this song!!!!!
I think they are the only ones to be able to say koala bear in a song and it still sound AMAZING!
This is too good to not have its own music video.
i loooooove this style!

This should've been used for an epic movie trailer.
“It’s a silly time to learn to swim when you start to drown, it’s a silly time to learn to swim on the way down.”
Their early stuff seems to be very Ani Difranco inspired.. which makes me incredibly happy! Even though I love all of their stuff :)
Excellent vocal arragements.
Love this song, best from the album i think.
Love this song

I want to be Tegan and/or Sara when I grow up! They're only a year older than me,but a girl can dream ♥️
love it!
Also watch some of the concerts they sing this song in
the new single 'closer' is also great..
My new favorite song :)
the first pic makes me think that the dialogue during the shoot would have gone something like this:
S: "Well hello, there ma'am"
T: "Eew. Seriously, Sara get away from me you are so weird" XD
I'm sold. I'm buying your album.
deep voice
Oh my jesus i love this asdfghjkl;
Haven't you seen The Con DVD? They only sing together when they are live. On albums, it's just whichever one wrote the song that sings.
my anthem

Showers pounding out a new beat
I trade my old shoes for new feet
I grab a new seat
I don't like the one I got
The fabric's wearing through
And it's wearing me out
You're wearing me down
Watching old baseball games
And low budget telethons
Ain't like watching you yourself
When you yourself is on
Got time to wander to waste and to whine
But when it comes to you
It seems like I just can't find the time
So watch your head and then watch the ground
It's a silly time to learn to swim
When you start to drown
It's a silly time to learn to swim
On the way down
If I gave you my number
Would it still be the same
If I saved you from drowning
Promise me you'll never go away
Promise me you'll always stay
Closed down the last local zoo
I'm gonna win the endless war
Over who kills the last koala bear
And who in death will love him more then I
He grabs me by the hand
Drags me to the shore
And says maybe you don't love me
But you'll grow to love me even more
And I well I'm not surprised
It's Tegan :)
if we're talking about that minute.. yes it's Sara, just listen to her!
Teetee sasa my beloved
