Super Munchers (Mac)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 тра 2010
- Super Munchers is a 1991 edutainment game legend MECC. Rather than teaching educational concepts such as math or grammar like the other Munchers games do, Super Munchers teaches kids trivia questions about animals, music, geography, and other assorted topics. Players control the "Muncher" who eats words that fit into a given category. In this version, eating enough correct answers turns the Muncher into Super Muncher, giving him the power to kill the evil Troggles. A puzzle minigame appears every three levels that advances the story as the Muncher takes down the evil Dr. Frankentroggle.
This is the Mac version, which was released alongside the DOS one. The games are practically the same apart from presentation, speed, and a few small tweaks. Controls in the cliff-climbing minigame are improved but still noticeably bad.
Once again, I messed up the cliff game because the item placement is sometimes impossible. I love the Munchers games, but I just really hate that part.
Back when my family couldn't afford a computer and it was greatest thing in the world when I had my chance of playing this in school.
OMG!!!! Yes!!!! Same here!!! This brings back memories!!!
You have no IDEA how long I've been searching for this!
SAME. holy hell
Goddamn I feel old I still remember playing this game in elementary school.
Old? But I feel young! Imagine having these games online tournaments in 2022
right, same here
For kids born after 1996, this game was the game to play on Mac, being in a wheelchair, I couldn't do most things at Recess, this game was a reward for myself, in Elementary School.
excuse me lol born in 87 this was apart of my childhood also😂
This was the game we all watched that one kid pop tf off and go through like 15 levels like it was cake.
Only one Thing that kid was me!
Damn 4th grade was 14 years ago
and Playing number munchers
The good years
makes me shed tears
wish I was a kid again in that time period
OMG I remember this game. I used to have an old Mac computer in my house as a kid and I could play this game for hours. Big hit of nostalgia.
I remember this game from kindergarten I loved it so much I hid in a corner of the classroom while everybody lined up to go outside just so I could have some time to myself to play it. True story.
I remember playing this game back when I was in the 2nd and 3rd grade in my school now I'm 29 and I can feel my childhood return.
Damn this brings back memories.
This game, man. Beating the cliff-flying level ensured bragging rights for all those of my kindergarten and 1st grade classes. My favorite sounds had to be the dying and game over sounds, shame we don't hear any of those in this video.
THIS is my version of the game! The way the troggles and Muncher look so real all the way down to the troggles stuffing their cheeks full of muncher when they eat him
Wow. I remember this game back during my school days.
That brings back memories of playing it in the 1990s. I remember having most trouble with the cliff scaling missions
the flying level was BULLSHIT
It would always amuse me how the Troggles would eat each other lol
my brain, my memories, this is insane i totally forgot about this game but the sprites and sounds take me back to being a wee lad in the 90's
I have not seen this game in YEARS. I love when the villains eat each other and what happens to your live counter when you make a mistake.
I remember playing this, Word Munchers, and Number Munchers on the grade school computers back then.
Wow! This takes me back to elementary school
you and me both
Menories Back in my school days. Funniest thing about super munchers was getting eaten by troggle. "Oh, Oh! You were eaten by a trogglus normalous!" "Oops! You were eaten by a trogglus normalous."😂😂😂😂😂😂
Planets. Pluto.
Oh the memories. I miss you Pluto.
Viewing this earlier tonight makes for my first exposure to the Macintosh version being presented in Colour, my old Mac computer from I996 (which has been out of commission since 2005 and sadly no longer with me) only ever presented Super Munchers in Grayscale while Word and Number Munchers (not sure if I had Fraction Munchers on it as well) displayed in Colour without error, so reliving the old days of this game with its intended palette truly does make all the difference.
One thing I must point out though is in regards to the audio emulation of the music, I personally recall most of the notes for the backup instruments being played at different points, it's as if there was a desync in this video that was out of the OS or application's control but it is very understandable if it's not being played on its native hardware; wishfully though, the Munchers franchise and virtually all other I98X/Early I99X Macintosh titles could be ported over to PCs that use other Operating systems with little to no need of emulation, some are extremely hard to find nowadays and even if we have them, they are near impossible to play due to major incompatibility issues, it is an era of gaming that truly deserves a worthwhile comeback in the spotlight.
Yep, this is played on the emulator SheepShaver, which has trouble with some of the music on earlier MECC games for Mac (the introduction music to My Own Stories has similar problems).
OMFG! I remember this game! I used to play it aall the damn time when I was a kid!
Back in 3rd grade me and my friend made it to level 196 and it was a Friday and at brunch and lunch and free time we both spend all day getting up to that level and it was the best game of super munchers ever.
This brings back memories of elementary school.
back at school... in the computer lab 2001 id say, the level ALWAYS CRASHED after mission 1.. we kids were pissed!!!! apple II with the actually "floppy" disk was a hit.. every classroom had these muncher games!!!! MEMORIES!! =D
In the DOS version, the music sounds like a Sega Genesis and MANY times the MECC and Learning Company games would be released on the Macintosh later than the DOS version.
Gah, I loved this game! I wish I could still play it (my old mac broke, so I switched to a PC; though I'd switch back if I could play this again).
I used to play this game the most at school when I was little. Nobody I ever talked to about it remembers it
The way they designed the cliff part is terrible, but this was tons of fun to watch and reminisce about. Thanks! ^-^
I never could get past that part as a kid
IVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS GAME FOR LIKE 10 YEARS! I couldn't remember the name only the scenes where the little monsters hid the key and also the glass jar that gives you powers and it was driving me crazy!
Yes!!! My childhood. 90's kid
Oh I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE this game. I remember when I was in elementary and "At Ease" was used as a program manager for the students. It was awesome.
Apparently the Troggles are cannibals because I saw one eat another at 7:50.
Starting 6:57 is a prime example
Gosh I remember this game in the 90's lol
Loved this game lol good memories although it got hard at the end.
Thank you! Beautiful childhood memories!
Remember playing this during computer class at school and the worst is when class is over and you just lost the cliff level.
What is there to hate about the muncher series? It is like the best thing ever.
I remember playing this and the munchers games for the Apple IIe.
I played this in elementary, around the first time I learned about Netscape Navigator.
RIP
i remember getting to level 141 in this game, i sat their for hours
Played word and number munchers in school, had this one preloaded on my first Apple, good times.
I love how the troggles eat each other what cannibals. XD
Same.
I was super young when I tried to play this game and the monster things just absolutely scared the shit out of me
I remember playing this game……. It was so much fun……
I remember that game I used to play in class during freetime in school
Man, this is all I did for indoor recess back in the day
wow. incredible childhood memories unlocked
I am just past words right now.
Last time I played this was when I was 11 back in 6th grade. I'm now 31. Oh, nostalgia 😭
I think I had this back in second grade when my mom bought our 1st computer. McIntosh days
the nostalgia.
AAAAGH NYOOO *curls into a fetal ball, the horrid memories flooding back*
Played this a kid back in the day!
I remember this game. It weirded me out when I was a kid.
@ukhistorian The Secret Island of Dr. Quandry! Glad somebody else remembers that one.
I played this back in my elementary school day's!
I played this in middle school back in like 2001.
This game seemed so much harder in grade school
The music is so jank, I love it. ❤️❤️❤️
I LOVED THIS GAME!!!
@DragonlordALS Haha, I didn't actually mind it THAT much. I always thought the Munchers games were fun, it was just that last minigame. Glad to have helped. :)
I havent been able to find this game anywhere :( where did you find it?!)
Check out Macintosh Garden (keep in mind these files will only work on an old Macintosh): macintoshgarden.org/games/super-munchers
@Napostriouf I sure learned a bunch about brands of cars.
This bring back memories
Sooo many memories playing this game....our teacher hated the sound effects...well I guess anyone would when u have 20 plus kids playing at one time hahaha
Oh, and we had The Secret Island of Dr. Quandary on our classroom computer too! I'd forgotten about that one.z
The good ol days
O_O Oh my god. The second I heard the music everything came rushing back. This game used to be awsome.
Aaahhh! The nostalgia! It hurts! :D
There should be a modified version of Super Munchers with newer celebrities such as Marlon Wayans, Britney Spears, Janet Leon, Madison Pettis and Sammi Hanratty
this game was my best friend as a kid =)
Wow, this is pure nostalgia. Where did you find this?! I want to play again NOW!
Haha this game is so old it still has Pluto as a planet.
I don't think there was a single kid in my third grade class that wasn't obsessed with this game. I envied the ones who were really good at the flying thing at the end.
God i feel old
The pink "Bashful" troggle looks like Michael Moore, which is weird.
Fuck! I love this game.
Does anyone know where I can get this game and how I can play it on my updated Mac?
I could crap myself; this is so nostalgic!
6:52, that was stupid. LMFAO, YOU JUST GOT YOURSELF EATEN!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 WHEN THAT SHIT HAPPENS TO ME, I SAY, AW SHIT!
Hermoso juego... Me encanta
I'm glad I watched long enough to see your entries in your Super Munchers "Hall of Heroes" lmfao
Wait I actually watched this whole thing
Happy memories
Someone is creating a Super Munchers ROM Hack
Super Munchers Platinum
i remember having to ask my dad if i could play this game on his mac hahahaha!
back in the day I used to sit for HOURS and play! haha I sound like an old person even though Im in my 30s
whats good fam dank game played this as a whipper snapper back in the 90s fam
I laughed my ass off when you got eaten by a fuckin' troggle. It's like the most douchiest thing this game has ever done too.
One of the first games I ever played.
First of all, thank you for this amazing upload. I never had access to the Mac version, but I was always very curious to see it. Do you think you could give me instructions on emulating this on Windows 7?
Thanks.
Forgot all about this game :D
I remember this game on pc
@Gernam12 and @MagicKnightUmi: Never been able to figure that out either, since the cliff game is so cheap. I just tried again and... still no luck. For the love of god, Super Munchers...
omg feel like im in 4th grade again!!!
Dang it, never got to see the ending to this game.
@1989gamemaster I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you aren't trolling... a piccolo is a musical instrument. You could learn this if you played Super Munchers!
I never was much of a gamer but these muncher games had me glued to a monitor in 4th and 5th grades back in the 90s 💯
Also, I'm not sure what if anything it indicates about my faculties, but I can't help but find the pink troggle with the oval shaped body to be really sexy 🤠
@BinLadenMustDie368 Yep, but it's pretty nasty-complicated; I'm basically emulating a Mac like you would an old Nintendo. PM me if you want to know more. :)
HAHAHA... Damn this game was the shit in elementary school along with Orgeon Trail, Odell Down Under, and Dino Park Tycoon...
