    The Flag Smashers weren't upset about the Blip occurring, they were upset that when half the population returned five years later they were pushed out of the places that they had settled into during the five-year event.

      They were also upset that the outpouring of sympathy and humanity that had existed during the years of 'The Blip', where everyone helped each other regardless of nationality, creed or religion, just dried up the moment the people returned, and humanity went back to being nation states constantly fighting over resources and power. "One World, One People" was their motto because that's what (they felt) had been the situation during The Blip.

    In 1997, the world population is around 5.8 billion people. Rounding that up to 6 billion for easier math, that means a million Skrulls works out to 167 Skrulls per million humans. Think of an extra 167 people in a city of a million, and you can see Nerdy is quite right. A million Skrulls isn't that many additional people.

    I think part of the reason the Skrulls can't find a permanent home anywhere is that the Kree are still hunting them across the universe, as well as other species/planets not trusting them. That was the reason Mar Vell was trying to build the lightspeed ship to find the Skrulls a new home where the Kree couldn't find them. Unfortunately for the 2 years following their departure with Captain Marvel in 1995 they were not able to find anywhere safe so some of them came back to Earth and worked with Fury. It's also why Talos brought all of the refugees to Earth after the blip because Earth had become a safe haven as long as they kept their existence hidden from the population (plus the Kree were afraid of Captain Marvel and avoided Earth).

    • @chrisd7047
      @chrisd7047 Рік тому +1

      Right. They're hiding on earth because it isn't safe for them to travel around with the Kree hunting them. That's all of their eggs in just a few baskets. Fury said "hey, why don't you guys stay here? Help me defend earth/the US. Most of you will be perfectly safe living as humans, and Carol and Talos and I will work on finding you a new permanent home of your own?" Why would they endanger their survival as a species by traveling around space with another tech-advanced civ after them when they can be relatively safe on Earth?

    Very hostile reaction... There are so many 'gripes' put forward here that can be explained by comicbook logic. Honestly it's a weird level of skepticism for how dangerous Skrulls can be. Also why do so many reactors struggle with the absence of the Avengers?! It's an entirely informal group, an ideal Fury came up with to bring heroes together in times of ultimate need. And after everything that's happened, the compound destroyed, members either scattered or dead, is it really surprising that there's no organised front? Fury could use his clout to bring a new group of heroes together, but it's not like Shuri even knows Captain America! The remaining and new recruits barely know each other, so uniting them would take some doing.

      @@NerdyNightly well we're two episodes into a mystery show about shapeshifting aliens, so to assume anything is tricky, but assuming the creators dont have answers at this stage seems pretty premature. Yes it's the kind of oversight in logic all the Disney+ shows seem to bring. But there are also so many logical assumptions you can make to answer Clarisse's questions. 'Are there a thousand invisible ships in orbit?'. Possibly, even if there was, space is VERY BIG. Also how do you know they didn't just round up refugees on 3 ships?? 'Why did they shoot that Skrull in the woods?' 1. They are already on the irradiated compound 2. Im assuming they will send someone to bury the body. 'How has no one discovered a dead skrull?' Im assuming initially they were kept track of but in the chaos of the last few years with Fury gone the system has deteriorated. Just seems like Clarisse came into this one with cynicism and no suspension of disbelief, which kind of spoils the fun

    The Asgardian vs. Skrull acceptance debate is kind of a head scratcher for me. Not only do Asgards look human, Thor and other Asgardians have shown to be protectors not only in the events of the MCU but Asgard has been a protector of Earth for thousands of years. There's built in history with the Asgards; even in our own real life lore. They're viewed as god-like by humanity. Furthermore, in the MCU timeline Earth was attacked multiple times by hostile alien species including one instance that wiped out half of the population. It's not hard to imagine even the most progressively minded individual being xenophobic towards aliens in the MCU.

    Loving this show so far! Definitely rating it higher than either of y'all, so sorry it's not working/clicking in the right ways for you. I think there's a necessary shorthand at play to avoid getting bogged down in exposition. The broad strokes work and make sense to establish the premise and personal stakes for Fury and the Skrulls without spending an inordinate amount of time getting lost in the minutiae. I feel like as nerds/geeks, a lot of us like delving into that kind of deep lore and picking apart all the details, but that doesn't necessarily work for telling the story to a more general audience, especially when you're working in a genre that is so dependent on tension and mystery. Halting the narrative flow to stop and explain what all happened over the course of 30 years and what Carol's been up to and where are the ships and how did papers get forged and are the Kree going to be a problem and and and...it would just grind the story into the ground and dispel any sense of momentum. We're given enough information to understand why they're here, why they're mad, and why it matters to the main characters. Fury promised them. Fury used them. Fury failed them. Fury left them. Now the consequences are coming back to bite him in the ass, from both his Skrull and human friends along with the wider threat to humanity. There are still more answers to come over the remaining four episodes, so I'm happy to take the ride and learn as we go. And if we don't happen to learn everything that happened in exacting detail, I've got no problem with that as long as we learn enough for what matters to this story. Everything else is gristle for nerdy theorists and fan fic writers to chew on for years to come. ;)
    I also think there's often a visual shorthand at play in these projects as well, sort of fusing the best conventions of both cinematic and comics storytelling, so the represented reality on screen/panel is meant to indicate more than the "actual" reality being portrayed. The visual language is coded to communicate what's happening more so than accurately portraying what's occurring, which helps to heighten the reality from mere realism (and usually look cooler as well). So if G'iah is hidden from the camera, we understand that she is hidden from anyone who might see her. If Gravik is changing shape behind things to taunt Fury when he comes out on the other side, we understand that other people in the crowd didn't see him changing. I feel like that's always been a part of the MCU aesthetic so it really doesn't bother me. Might not work for everyone, or in every instance, but i do think it's more of an intentional stylistic choice than an unintended error on the part of the creators.
    Hope it starts working better for y'all, cuz it's working great for me! :)

    Second point, concerning humans accepting aliens - how's New Asgard doing? Admittedly, most Asgardians look human, but then there's Korg, etc. Skrulls are different, and the council member who didn't submit to Gravik suggested that conflict might be something skrulls create ... but did they even try? @@NerdyNightly I think it was time to shit or get off the pot with Hill. Give her something big or get rid of her. Showing up for 2-3 minutes of screen time every three years was a waste of the wonderful Cobie Smulder’s time. She should have been made a bigger player ages ago. When younreally take stock of it, her MCU involvement has been minuscule until this show’’s premier episode. Hill is a side character in Avengers, with maybe 20 lines, two decent shootout sequences and a lot of standing blurry in the background in the helicarrier CIC. She had a slightly smaller role in Age of Ultron; more lines and less screen time. She was co-star of a post-credit scene in Infinity war and she had silent 20 cameo at the end Endgame.
      My favourite Hill moment is Soren for Christ’s sake! From Far From Home, shooting that drone with a rocket launcher before it kills Fury/Talos. ‘You got me? *boom* “I gotcha”.

    Clarus, while the idea of 2000 people dying is a big deal to us as individuals, you need to realize that measured against the population of the United States, it is not even a statistical rounding error (less than 0.1%) and against the population of the planet, it is even smaller. And Rhodey is not meaning to be humorous when he asked Fury not to start a nuclear war before they meet. Even his aside regarding "putting on his suit and carpet-bombing" Slovakia, is pure frustration as WarMachine commands the personal firepower to do just that.
