The thing that is a concern after being hit by a hurricane is now parts are going to be hard to get. Transformers and other electrical parts for power restoration, even getting roofing and windows for your house. It could be over a year just to get new windows not to mention damaged cars. Times are different now and good luck even getting people to go to work.
Nice work both broadcasting clearly, explaining to different levels of audience knowledge level. You have restored my faith that there is hope for the millennial generation !
Anything can happen. Nobody knows what we can expect. Forecasts are just that, a forecast. They aren’t predictive except to a degree. Everyone needs to get ready now.
This storm has me super nervous as it is set to become my first Florida storm. I am located in Pensacola. I am from Louisiana and I have only experienced storm there. Not super looking forward to it.
I wouldn’t sweat it, just have enough food that doesn’t require cooking for a few days in case the power is out (I was living in Fort Myers when Charlie made landfall there, not really all that bad, unless you’re in a flood zone).
Let North Carolina know if it's we're going to get anything from this hurricane I know it's too early to predict but I am concerned about Florida and Georgia and South Carolina
I know still early but i live in the kendall area of Miami would you recommend to put on shutters based on what we have as of now? Thank you in advance
Basic reply; I’m not a weatherman, but I have studied the weather for quite awhile. Millibars represent equal measurements of pressure. Millibar lines connect equal points of pressure which are connected by that line. Like connect the dots we use to do as kids. Pressure is the amount of pressure that is exerted on a body; our bodies, the ground … Normal pressure exerted is ~1026millibars. Lower than that it a low pressure as compared to normal. The opposite is true. Think of high pressure as a mountain and a low pressure is a valley. As you can guess, pressure will flow from high pressure to low pressure; kinda like a waterfall; high on the mountain, the water flows down towards the bottom of the mountain. A hurricane, Is a low pressure system so air will flow from the surrounding high pressure to the area of low pressure. Now try to pay attention; because of the earth’s rotation it causes a twist on that inflow. Since the earth rotates at a given rate, what causes the rate of inflow would be that pressure difference; higher winds. I can’t get into the physics of hurricanes but remember, as air flows into the low pressure, it has to have a way to get out; that’s at the top of the storm, and as the hurricane eats more warm water it gives it more energy. This can deepen the pressure(lowers it) inside the storm and the air inside the storm which is getting lower has the inflow higher and higher; no warm water, no energy; kinda like why the storms don’t typically form in the northern parts of earth. Phew; that’s my basic take on it, so to bring it back home, millibars are equal parts of pressure and importantly is that the closer the pressure bars, the steeper the “cliff” or wind speed. Look at a map of a hurricane and you’ll see the millibars close together= higher winds. The concert is true.
There should be a lot of experience with these models. Some are far worse then others. Instead of throwing up the spaghetti lines as if all are equal, the scientific approach would be to weigh them according to experience. Possibly some are better early days and others are better as data clears up.
Please tell people to start making preparations for there pets and elderly. Please tell them to not leave pets outside on chains. Thank you!
Thank you for your clear, careful, and calm delivery of the tropical weather.

The European model was correct after all. It's hitting right under Tampa. It took a major easterly turn just like they said.
I know still early but i live in the kendall area of Miami would you recommend to put on shutters based on what we have as of now? Thank you in advance
When this storm gets into the Gulf of Mexico it can strengthen to afford it may not but it can strengthen to afford before a landfall on Florida

Can you explain the milibars and how those work or what they mean? How is say 1000+mb significant from less or more?
