- Gewa has been making acoustic violins for nearly 100 years. Now they have the Novita electric violin. Available in 3 colors, 4 string and 5 string configurations, this is a fantastic instrument for under $1000 (for the 4 string) and just over $1000 for the 5 string.
3 years later... I'm still enjoying my Novita. Unfortunately I still suck playing violin lol! But sometimes when friends come over who can play and plug in, they hook this up to my Walrus Audio fathom or SLO and it inspires me again to pick it up to keep going.
I have a novita 3.0 and you said the original shoulder rest was terrible, but besides the design and sound, the wittner pegs and shoulder rest really helped me in the decision to buy this violin. My old shoulder rest that i used on my acoustic violins is pretty old, so it tends to fall off and every time i put it in my case, i risk the clamps turning and the hight changing etc. With this one you just click it on and it's always the same position. However, there are a few things about this violin that i find odd. Firstly it seems to really drain the 9v batteries, if i were to practice every day, i would have to change the battery twice a week and i don't know about the prices in America since i live in the Netherlands, but at our local convenience store it's like 10 bucks for 2 batteries. And secondly, on the back of the violin there is a switch for amp or microphone, but if i plug it into my amp with a quarter inch jack, i have to keep the switch on mic, because if i flip it the amplifier just doesn't receive a signal. However, if i plug in my headphones, it doesn't come through no matter what the switch is set to, so i might have to see if there is someone in the Netherlands who can repair electric violins.
Which 'under $1k' electric violin out of the 4 you mentioned, do you recommend overall across the board? Also, which affordable bow do you recommend for intermediate, studio recording? TIA!
Would love to buy it but the black has been sold out for a while :(
do you think you could do a sound comparison video between the gewa and auro?
I play the 5 string version. Have you tried this with a wireless sett up? Any recommendations?
Probably something with a transmitter pack that's away from the instrument a little bit. We like the Line6 G30 for a more affordable solution. If you need something more robust from an RF standpoint, you'll need to call someone like Sweetwater who really deals with the pro-level wireless setups more than we do.
Hi! How does the gewa novita compare to tge ns design wav series in regards to sound? Is it a brighter tone like the yamaha or more warm/thick tone like the ns? Thank you in advance!
Check out the review we just did comparing all of the instruments we carry under $1000. We did an apples-to-apples comparison.
Can they go wireless? Is it thw same like guitar jack pickup?
Yup
would their shoulder rest fishnet thing fit on the NS Design?
Don't know. It attaches to the back of the Gewa with two screws. You'd have to be willing to screw into your instrument.
@@ElectricViolinShop oh my. Thanks for your reply. and nahhh its okay haha
I saw the instagram post you guys made a while ago for this and ive been waiting ever since. Beautiful design. I love the modification
They dont come with an own case but fit in any(!) GEWA case :)
Great info 🇨🇦🇨🇦
How do you start up novita becouse with brand new battery its not willing to give any sound
Alexander, there is a switch on the violin that says "amp" on one side and "headphone" on the other. Make sure that switch is in the "Amp" position, then also check to ensure that the volume, bass, and treble controls on the preamp are all turned up to appropriate levels. And, 'though this sounds basic, if your instrument is not passing signal to your amp, always be sure and try the instrument with more than one cable. Cables *do* go bad, and a lot of times it's the simplest (and least expensive!) piece that's actually causing the problem.
Hi! Is this instrument works on stage or only for practice?
Both!
What are
the pickup info Specs
It's a proprietary piezo pickup in the bridge.
Nice presentation Matt. That is a nice sounding instrument. Do you mind sharing info on the interface and mic you are using for your broadcasts and how you have the routing setup for the ecamm live. Everything sounds really clean. Thanks in advance.
I'm using a CAD mic and, on this episode, my Saffire Pro14 interface. I'll probably use a different mic and interface in the future so I don't have to tear my studio apart every time I come in here to livestream.
Thanks for the great presentation. Very inspiring.
