There is a reason that ALW chose Sierra to perform in the 25th anniversary concert. She is definitely the one that all other Christines are measured by.

Sierra is my absolute favorite, especially if she's performing with Ramin... they just play off each other so well.

agreed - I dont know if we've seen better chemistry between the two leads

@@MarcDanielPatrick as a side note, in the 2012 brit awards performance of PotO, Ramin sings sings "grows stronger yet" with a higher note on the ger in stronger instead of the lower one normally sung... I don't think I've ever heard anyone else sing it that way except him. I've seen two performances where he did it that way... I have to say, I think it makes the line sound even better than normal.

One thousand times agreed. I actually was thinking I had outgrown the story that it was campy and melodramatic… and then I saw the version with Ramin and Sierra and holy hell… they retold the story in the most captivating way. Such talent

I’m blessed to work with the same voice teacher as Sierra (Mary Setrakian, she just released her book on singing!!) and this is the only analysis video I’ve seen so far that got everything right. Many of the others talk about Sierra lifting her soft palate or using fake vowels (not true at all!) Mary taught me this song and as you said, the beginning is about being more speech-like, coming down into your mix any chance you get. (Sierra is able to do that because she has a gorgeously developed chest voice!) Resonating in the front and not using a trapped dark sound. Great observations. Dead on about not being breathy too. Everything you said is in Mary’s book. This song does sit in a weird spot to navigate too! That one moment where you stopped, “knowing we must say goodBYE,” Andrew Lloyd Webber prefers that drop down to have chest voice in it, so you’re right on that too!
It’s also 100% true that Wishing is more classical, that’s not an opinion! A few of my friends have worked with people in Phantom Bway and we were all told that “Think of Me” HAS to be the least operatic song. (Of course in the 80’s it was more operatic, but before it closed on Broadway you would NOT get the job if you sang it like that. ) In Think of Me she’s young and starting out. It’s very light. If you go back and listen with that in mind, you’ll notice that Sierra is almost singing half-voiced, and then goes full classical on the cadenza. Wishing is Christine’s big moment, it is much more classical. In the documentary, Hal Prince said he wanted The Point of No Return to be the most operatic of all the songs, you’ll notice it modulates to a higher key than all the rest of them to allow that to happen! It makes sense for Christine to get more and more classical as the show goes on with the “she has much to learn” line. Anyway, great video!❤

I agree with you. Sierra is the best! I know that ALW originally created the role for his then wife Sarah Brightman, but I feel that Sarah tends to over act to the point were it's not believable. Sierra's version of Christine is brilliantly performed and much more believable. Pairing her with Ramin Karimloo was the best decision for the 25th anniversary. What a dream team! They work together beautifully and their version of Phantom will be incredibly hard to beat. We must not forget that ALW casted them in the same roles when LND debuted. Regardless on how successful the show was, Sierra and Ramin were amazing!

Because of the depth and fullness of her low notes, I believe that she is a mezzo soprano. Her high notes are just crystal clear and amazing, as well as having full and rich, low notes. Is the best voice for a female, the mezzo soprano

Glad you reacted to this! Sierra is absolutely gorgeous! If I were a man it would be hard for me to concentrate on my part if she was my leading lady! Her notes are just so spot on. I'm not a singer but I know what sounds good and she's out of this world amazing! "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again," is a very difficult song to sing and she nails it every time! :)
    Tuning in from So. CAL!

I just want to say that I’ve never seen the Phantom of the opera, but she made me wanna cry! About Sierra boggess , you know her vocal coach, Mary Setrakian has a channel on UA-cam. She’s done reactions as she’s done many online classes with us and she’s amazing. Sierra has been on her channel a few times as a guest. She’s the real deal. She also released a book on Amazon a few months ago.

She has a little bit of a Julie Andrews sound to her voice. Sierra is fantastic! She sounds fired up with youth, which makes her story more compelling. She’s maybe my new favorite.

I’ve only seen phantom once and it was with Jason Mills as the phantom which I was so thrilled just to be there that his so so performance didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the show. I remember crying from the start of the mirror all the way through MOTN and then being a complete mess during the final lair. This show along with Les Mis gave me my love for musical theater and I can’t wait for Les Mis to come back to Texas in January of next year.

I remember seeing Phantom when I saw very little (maybe too little!) My aunt and uncle got there a little late, heading towards our seats right around the time the chandelier comes down over the audience. Uncle Will, being a rather tall man, didn't realize that it came down on purpose and just about threw himself onto the ground.

What a glorious voice! I just got the DVD of Phantom with her, Ramin and Hadley Frasier so I can watch it whenever I want. LND always makes me think of ALW's birthday concert where the Phantom & Raoul end up together.🤣😂 Makes me wonder if that's what ALW intended all along.😂

I saw the original cast in London back in 1987 and have seen it many times over the years. Rebecca Caine takes top honours as far as I’m concerned. And of course it’s all relative, especially because no one has seen all the Christines to make a fair choice. Clare Moore was also extraordinary.
I’m a little surprised that she’s your favourite considering that she’s sharp several times in this performance, but I saw her in the dreadful Love Never Dies here in London and she was pitch perfect in that so maybe she was pushing a bit here.
Thanks for your channel, I really enjoy your videos!

Sarah Brightman will forever be my favorite "Christine" in Phantom of the Opera. Her ethereal voice and mesmerizing stage presence brought a unique depth to the character. From the moment she sang the iconic "Think of Me", she captivated me with her emotional performance. Sarah's portrayal of Christine was truly enchanting. She will always hold a special place in my heart as the quintessential Christine Daaé.

I heard that her voice coach instructed her to suck air through her nose in that way … because it forces you to release any neck and tongue tension. Not sure if it’s totally true but it seems to help me with tension too.

I'm not not sure what I think of this - I really like the emotion she puts into it (which a lot of renditions are lacking) but the climactic part feels like it's too high for her and, in trying to push the power into it, she takes some weird breathe and it sounds like her pitch is in danger of going off the rails. I agree that this is the most operatic of the songs and you really need someone with the range and the power to sing it.

I normal DESPISE Christine because I think she is so shallow and superficial BUT I remember there was this one time in Dallas I watched The Phantom of The Opera where I thought she deserved better than the Raoul & Erik in that show. Sadly I can’t remember her name
