@spaghebbio Seriously, that's a fanboy take if I've ever seen one. Why buy the lesser more expensive option just because at 4k performance would be similar. Also, lets not forget that you would have to invest in an entirely new platform, bloating the price even more.

If you lived next to a Microcenter in the US, the 7800x3d was around $250 for most of its life, if you bundled a motherboard and ram, which most people needed anyway because it's a new platform. The 7800x3d is the best CPU I've seen in my life. I honestly don't know how Intel ever competes with that.

    • @PaintrainX
      @PaintrainX 2 місяці тому +8

For gaming it's a slam dunk indeed. Not even AMD has another CPU competing with the 7800X3D. But for people who do want high performance for other workloads, it's really hard to pick a processor since the 7800X3D doesn't cut it. The most shocking part of picking another CPU is that in every game the order of performance really gets mixed up. Even the 7900X3D en 7950X3D get owned by really cheap CPU's in some games. And the 7900X3D and 7950X3D are pretty meh with other applications.

@@Definedd it clearly is a major rework over Zen 4, the front end has had big design changes. And that shows in Zen 5 EPYC, delivering biggest gen over gen performance gains of all the Zen's. Desktop variants just didn't see any meaningful performance increase, that could be two things, either the reuse of Zen 4 IO die or that the arc upgrades just favors the kind of workloads in EPYC more. Either way Zen 5 is overall a huge success for AMD. We have yet to verify the 9000 X3D parts performance gains. 9800X3D has 200mhz higher boost clocks and 500mhz higher base clock, it's obvious that it will set it self apart from 7000X3D.

AMD Is only at 25 per cent market share currently. Would like to see them get to 40 or more. With Arrow/Lunar, Intel has made significant changes to their architecture but this new approach hasn't translated into real world gains just yet. At least, with this approach, Intel's chips aren't as power-hungry any more. I'd like to see how Intel's 3d tile approach to chips with big/little cores evolves. Yes, we need a competitive Intel and making their chips more efficent is the first step.

My i7-12700K at 1.23 volts reaches similar wattages while gaming. I still remember it gave me hundreds of fps on CSGO while drawing around 45 watts.
When i first turned on the PC the voltages were broken at 1.41 volts and 220 watts on Cinebench for whatever reason, now it's 150.
When i play PS3 games my 12700K is equivalent to a Ryzen 9 7900X, the 7800X3D isn't that impressive, it does pretty well because it boost IPC over vainilla Zen 4 which is mediocre.
Back then when Intel made Alder Lake (Sandy Bridge 2.0) the e-cores were actually efficient and helpful.
With Meteor Lake, they made Intel Bulldozer and Arrow Lake is Piledriver.
They killed hyperthreading on the perfomance cores hurting 1% lows and frametimes and the switch to chiplets killed any real IPC gains.

I have a 7950X3D + XTX desktop and a Ryzen 7840U laptop (just so we're clear on me having a brand preference)... no I don't think so. AMD needs a fucking stomp in the face for diverting form their marketing practices. They were honest to withing a couple of percent with RDNA and RDNA 2 but lied through their teeth with RDNA 3. The same can be said for Ryzen up until Zen 5.
At least Intel was closer on the mark with this one. Sure, the platform isn't baked yet, but with the discrepancies I've seen between channels (some actually get what Intel said, others have plonked results) I'm willing to cut Intel the benefit of the doubt. Once BIOSes and Windows is sorted Arrow Lake should land where Intel said to with a couple of percent.
TL;DR: Misleading marketing should ALWAYS get companies roflstomped, and honest marketing should ALWAYS get them a fair review based on merit and value alone.

Thanks for the review. It would be nice if you could add some older gen CPUs like 9900k in your benchmarks. I assume the 9900k is almost on par with 12600k, but still it would be nice to see if older gens like the 9900k are worth upgrading. For now I think I'll keep mine for at least one more generation, not feeling investing 700€ for underwhelming upgrade.

Excellent 265K review. I liked that you used the EPS 12 V rails to measure CPU watts. This requires equipment most users do not have. Therefore I would also like to see the power of the entire computer without the monitor. It is clear that if gaming is the primary purpose of a computer Core Ultra should not be used.
I would speculate that spreading performance cores around the CPU to reduce the thermal spike of a relatively cool core getting full thermal boost when a thread is passed to it from a hot performance core takes additional time because it is using different level 2 or level 3 caches.

The 9800X3D, even though it's going to be only 5%-10% faster than the 7800X3D, is going to make Intel basically irrelevant for gamers.
People that use their PCs for work or workplaces that need a high core count CPU don't upgrade as often as avid gamers and enthusiastic consumers, and these guys will probably get either a 14900K or a 9950x, since they tend to be well educated on hardware.
So basically you'll find Intel's new CPUs only inside prebuilts 😂

If you only wear tinted glasses and care about just gaming it is a flop. But in this case everything is a flop except x3d. But productivity benchmarks that does matter (rendering, code compilation, AI) got big uplift. Cost per frame is between 7900x and 9900x. but 265k is significantly faster in blender, code compilation cinebench than both. Only concern is photoshop 2025 but photoshop always was weird software in utilizing cpu so i assume it could be bug considering premiere is back to normal. I use computer not just for gaming but for some work related tasks as well. Some computers are workstations that don't need threadripper but well performing cpu with igpu on board. We also have here NPU, far better intel's av1 hardware encoding than AMD. Also looking at phoronix benchmarks power consumption for intel is lower during webrowsing etc. comparing to AMD.... So if i builded office computer or multitask computer I think Intel takes crown at 245k/265k level. 285k not necessery.

The double standard in these video titles and thumbnails is crazy.
Like, seriously, take soke time to scroll through this channel's videos. Almost every Zen 5 video thumbnail reads "Bad" this "Flop" that, "Disaster", "Terrible value" etc. Especially the value one is comical as Intel's arrow lake performs worse than Intel's own previous gen, AND has the audacity to ask you to switch to a new mobo socket yet somehow it's "much better value" LMAO.
Intel releases literal e-waste and the thumbnail reads MUCH BETTER VALUE with the fact that it's trash literally hidden in the small print. Not just this channel either, Linus does this too. Only reputable source who never does damage control for Intel is Digital Foundry.
Now i want to clarify this, i'm not saying these reviews aren't stating the facts INSIDE the video, but often times i notice misleading thumbnails in favor of Intel.
