    Getting Zbrush for free and knowing how to customize the UI makes those issues go away.
    I def still use Blender for quick rigging and animation doe. With a few plugins the two progs compliment each other in amazing ways that ends up being something like 70% Zbrush, 30% Blender workflow.

      @@AlHowell sorry mate, I didn't mean you personally. 😁 Zbrush is what it is. Anything worth learning takes effort. ZB was never supposed to be an industry standard 3D program. That's not what it was made for. I'm using it since version 1.5, so I can use it in my sleep at this stage, but there really is no excuse these days. There are effectively an infinite number of learning resources available. You think there's a learning curve now? You should have seen it when the internet had exactly ZERO Zbrush 'written' tutorials. Yes, there was no such thing as video tutorials back then. You had to......shock, horror.....read the manual. 😂

    While I agree with this, one of the biggest things I feel makes blender better than zbrush is the fact that the software just doesn't get in your way. The fact that you have to go on the internet to find a script someone made to get the annoying masking/smooth/slice brush select popup to go away is just terrible. Every time you switch it tells you that you are switching your smoothing brush with an annoying pop-up. Another annoying thing is that when using something like transpose that isn't a draw type brush I have to click my hotkey twice to switch to something that is a draw type because otherwise it will just screw up the mesh.

    1. Cost (or lack of cost) does not make software 'better'
    2. Not being able to figure out one software does not make another software better.
    There's a reason Zbrush is the industry standard.

    • @massivetree7937

      @@AlHowell What you get for the cost of Zbrush is the best sculpting tools on the market and that perform with many millions of polygons. It also continues to be free updates. I've owned Zbrush for 10 years and all updates in that time have been at no cost.
      All one needs to know on the learning curve is that Zbrush is both a 2.5D and 3D sculpting app and so in the video where you're just painting on the canvas, you're in 2D mode, you're just an edit button away from switching to 3D mode. Both modes have their uses.
      Its great that Blender sculpting continues to improve under Pablo, having sculpting in a DCC app is vital but it won't ever replace Zbrush as the industry go to app.

    Taking a moment to process here: the definition of "better" is defined by "free?" Sculpting in blender sucks and is very limited in what it can do. Anything worthwhile will come with an addon and u probably have to pay for it.

    • @arcangel964
      @arcangel964 3 роки тому +4

      It does have a long way to go, eventho its come a long way. What gets me tho is the rave about it when it is nothing special. Booleans suck, what should be simple operations turn to hurdles, then when it cant handle shit it crashes and becomes non responsive (like the Aust Government). Trying Mudbox now and its a dream compared to Blender. So damn straight forward and no nonsense. I might use Blender for hard surface modelling, but I find Fusion or 3D Max works a treat. The triangulation, decimate functions/modifiers work not too bad, good for exporting and final processing before a game engine and 3d printing, subdivision modeling is okay as well, uv mapping, retopology belongs in the dark ages and baking can be unpredictable even when using a cage. Just doesnt cut it especially if u got a job to do and time and money are a major factor.

    Only for sculpting mode, IMHO Blender lacks the ability to mask and hide and cut the mesh, very quickly, with dedicated key combinations, as happens in ZB.
    Until Blender solves this problem it is unlikely to be as fast as ZB, at least in certain stages of sculpting.
    Really, I think this is one of the biggest shortcomings.
    Unfortunately, the navigation of ZB is closely connected with these key combinations, so it is not easy to find another series of combinations in blender that is equally effective and fast.

    • @SunsetTheDragon
      @SunsetTheDragon 3 роки тому +2

      there are dedicated shortcut keys for some stuff in blender, for masking it's M, you don't hold it down though. to clear it hit Alt + M. Ctrl + I inverts the mask. if you seemingly cleared the mask but nothing comes when you draw it might be bc you accidentally hit Ctrl + M, which hides the mask, hit Ctrl + M again.
      hide is nowhere nearly as good as in ZBrush unfortunately and it seems to be different from the operation I use a lot, which is Alt + B. I really do agree Blender isn't as advanced as ZBrush when it comes to sculpting, but I think it's solid for creating base meshes before importing them to ZBrush

    • @Zekium
      @Zekium 3 роки тому +1

      You can recreate some of the shortcuts in Blender actually : the keymap actually allow to use any shortcut on any operator (or make some basic new feature if you want).

    • @matsy7450
      @matsy7450 3 роки тому +1

      @@Zekium I tried ... but I can't, I find it very difficult. I want exactly the same keys as Zbrush, because they are the fastest on the left hand..and I don't want to go crazy recreating them.
      Trimming / masking / hiding is all done on the ctrl-alt-shift-left click keys.
      In blender those keys have other functions, for example as you know, alt is used to lock on the axes, I find it difficult to change paradigm, alone.
      Why doesn't blender put this important DEFAULT function? exactly like in ZB ... or why doesn't someone write a small script or addon? It is not possible that ZB and Blender users, who use a lot of sculpting, not struggle not finding these keys default in Blender.
      In addition, blender tries to copy ZB in many respects, as far as sculpting is concerned ... therefore blender programmers should copy this combination too. And they do well, I agree...because ZB is designed to go as fast as possible, in sculpting,
      and still a long way ahead in several respects, in my opinion.
      I use both, I don't want to defend anyone in particular, Zb has many defects and problems, first of all scattered commands throughout the interface, redundancy of tools, etc. These are just some observations to improve blender in this case ..I would really like Blender to have the same speed in sculpting ... if blender were so strong in sculpting it would probably be the right standard?
      For me, Blender sculpt is mainly missing two things:
      an intelligent and super fast default system for mask / cut / hiding, like zbrush .... and second thing, the ability to manage more polygons on the scene, millions polygons without crashs (maybe in 3.0 it will be possible..). Really all I ask, for massively switch to blender sculpting, for serious sculpting, without leaving blender ever.

    I used ZBrush since released back in t1998 or 99 not sure, well the point is I am super thankful with the blender foundation, because up today ZBrush keep having the worse and more RETAAARRRRRDED UI in software history, the developers of ZBrush simply have their brains backwards, is the more awful software to use and this keep the same for DECADES what mean the negligence and ineptitude of this developers has no excuses and like that isn't enough they are as STUPID that they believe I still must to pay them for torture my brain, back to those days we didn't have other option and we hate our work because awful tools like ZBrush until recently when the developers of Blender added sculpting to the Blender kit, is pointless explain how much better is Blender over ZBrush and please don't come with ignorant replies because I know very well what I am talking about I used ZBrush in daily basis for over 2 decades, first the dynomesh and multires, in first place ZBrush doesn't generates real geometry is faked then don't try to discredit Blender with a false argument, plus has no sense work is super high res to only retopology after then is simply a waste of time and other tools can do it better than ZBrush if we want to go for realism we will use any of both Blender o Zbrush only as starting point and then we will jump inother tools like substance painter and Unreal Engine then it is more that clear ZBrush is an incomplete tool because CAN'T GET THE JOB DONE you still need to use other tools to get it done, then straight to the point: "Never met developers of any software more idiotic than the devs of zbrush AND YOU ARE EVEN MORE STUPID IF YOU PAY FOR IT having better options" until the developers of ZBrush don't make a FULL REINGENIEING of the software starting by fully change the UI and create a navigation system because as I said work in ZBrush is awful you need to reduce your brain to chimpanzee level to understand how the work in that UI

      @@gaaks6642 I use it in a daily basis for work and with good hardware you can get the same results, because the nav system blender make things easier, with any drawing or pen display tablet you can make high quality sculpts, the custom alpha brushes are not exclusive to ZBrush and you can find many great alpha brushes for free or buy super high quality ones, if you have a computer with GPU you will be more than fine, for sculpting I recommend you to go with as much RAM memory as possible, but I am not talking of gaming PCs of thousands of dollars, the main difference between one software and the other is that ZBrush doesn't create real topology the truth is ZBrush fakes the topology and is why you believe is faster while Blender works with real topology, because of that Blender is more hardware demanding, but you can actually sculpt in blender with almost any computer, a laptop with integrated graphic can works as well, just keep in mind for games Video RAM is the key but for work: 3d modeling, 3d sculpting, video editing, high res illustrations etc what you need the most is RAM and a strong processor, a processor over 2ghz, RAM minimum of 8GB but preferably 16 GB or higher, now when the GPU works is when you render images of your models or animation, with integrated graphics you will need to be patient and wait long for a good quality render while with a GPU you can render faster that is how the GPU helps you, if you don't have strong hardware just go to the blender settings and reduce the quality of your viewport, in short time we will have better render engine in Blender is just about months to get Cycles X full functional that will helps as well, then for now just reduce your viewport settings to don't have lags when sculpting and work with higher mesh resolutions and render in cycles as always

    Just like your cell phone is better than a landline.
    Things that don't necessarily do more but are more capable are typically better.
    If your phone had the best call clarity in the world but that's THE ONLY thing it could do.
    I am hard pr--no. . .not a soul on this earth at the time of writing would call it better than the cell phone in your hand right now.
    Blender IS objectively a better program.
    The second you come out of modeling guess where you're not? In Zbrush.
    Industry standard. . . ok but, FOR. . .what? Excessively Organic modeling.
    I'm sorry but every time I see something from ZBrush. . .It's like they're all flavors of nutsacks.

    Again no hate on sculpting but, I feel like it is ALWAYS excessive.
