I have seen many many western movies but somehow this one slipped through my fingers. I really enjoyed watching this one, always was a fan of Will Geer. Thanks for sharing it, you made an old man happy.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤love this movie I have to watch it again today is November the 8 2024 an am in 🇯🇲 Jamaica the sun is peeping hot an it is 12:59pm this movie is very interesting entertaining an the whole family can watch this movie I give it 💯 out of 💯 ❤😅😅😅😅😅very nice movie.
Will Geer, grandpa on 'The Waltons' TV show.. He earned a masters degree in Botany in college before starting his music and acting career. He also wrote folk songs with legend Woody Guthrie.
Two years before Maureen O'Hara made the Irish film classic 'The Quiet Man' with John Wayne. She often displayed a fearsome Irish temper in the movies!
you should watch her in movies like : how green was my valley, Quiet Man.. and many movies she acted opposite John Wayne. We dont have beauties and talent like her any more..
Really do enjoy mid-fifty / late 1960 films. The simplicity of no re-percussions when shooting off a .45 caliber or Winchester 33. The camera footage, "buck me with your Bowy, Jim". No oozing shot wounds, (Tarantino) mid-late nineties popularized the focus of the blood/gore Other busy bees contributed out of the back studio lot. Catch-up with Panavision. Disney was continuing to lead in support through investments, Eastman Kodak. Investment "buckaroos", debated across the executive table. Guild investments began to set at the table also. Hollywood signed contracts actor/actresses as well as supporting investments. Great Films.
For the record: This film is COMANCHE TERRITORY, made in 1950 by Universal-International Pictures. Produced by Leonard Goldstein and directed by George Sherman, with a screenplay by Lewis Meltzer and Oscar Brodney, from an original story by Lewis Meltzer. Cinematography by Maury Gertsman; edited by Frank Gross; musical score by Frank Skinner. George Sherman would also direct THE SLEEPING CITY and SPY HUNT in 1950. Pedro de Cordoba (Quisima) would also appear in THE LAWLESS (credited) and CRISIS (uncredited) in 1950, before his death of a heart attack in Sunland, California on 26 September 1950. Three more movies in which he played roles were released in 1951. Charles Drake (Stacy Howard) would also appear in I WAS A SHOPLIFTER, DEPORTED (voice only; uncredited), LOUISA (voice only; uncredited), WINCHESTER '73, PEGGY, HARVEY, and MYSTERY SUBMARINE (voice only; uncredited) in 1950. Will Geer (Dan'l Seeger) would also appear in THE KID FROM TEXAS, WINCHESTER '73, IT'S A SMALL WORLD, BROKEN ARROW, CONVICTED, and TO PLEASE A LADY in 1950. He would appear in 5 big-screen movies and one episode of "Racket Squad" on TV in 1951 before being blacklisted in Hollywood, on TV, and on radio because of his Communist Party USA membership and activities. His only screen appearance in the next 11 years was, ironically enough, as the sheriff in the all-Communist film SALT OF THE EARTH in 1954. His next screen appearance in the U.S. would be as the Senate minority leader in ADVISE & CONSENT (1962). Macdonald Carey (James Bowie) would also appear in SOUTH SEA SINNER, COPPER CANYON, THE LAWLESS, and MYSTERY SUBMARINE in 1950. Maureen O'Hara (Katie Howard) would also appear in RIO GRANDE and TRIPOLI in 1950.
IN the beginning of the movie you saw the Indian that was featured in those 70's PSA's where he's standing on the side of the road while trash is thrown out of a car at his feat as a tear rolls down his cheek. Here, he's mad at the white trespasser for doing the same thing. "White devil threw Snickers bars wrappers all over the sacred ground and didn't even share".
Iron Eyes Cody (Espera Oscar de Corti) was of Sicilian descent. He began dressing in his Native American costumes in his everyday life, even his braided wig. He was second generation Italian-American according to his half-sister, but denied it. Before his death at age 94, he wrote this comment: "Make me ready to stand before you with clean and straight eyes. When life fades, as the fading sunset, may our spirits stand before you without shame.". Iron Eyes Cody - Wikipedia
Comanche Territory 1950. Legendary gunslinger Jim Bowie (Macdonald Carey) is sent to the remote town of Crooked Tongue, where he and local Daniel Seegar (Will Geer) struggle to arrange a friendly treaty with Quisima (Pedro de Cordoba), the chief of the Comanche tribe. When the vicious Stacey Howard (Charles Drake) -- an opportunist with plans for an illegal silver mine -- and his barkeep sister, Katie (Maureen O'Hara), catch wind of the treaty, they plot to break down relations between Bowie and the Comanches.
Good movie. The color is fantastic and the scenery just beautiful. I am always sorry when animals are used and abused to make the old movies. So many horses, cattle, sheep, dogs and other animals suffer to make some of the old movies, especially the westerns.

Yep. in the middle of nowhere, miracles never cease, Have all the forging materials, the bits and pieces to form the knives, iron wheels from wagons, etc, And the real Indians looking on in the village thinking 'why am here'!!

*_Thank You_* Cinemium for this nice 1080p HD film copy = 👌 Not particularly a Classic American Western, though still a definite *Oldie But Goodie....* with crisp-n-beautiful Technicolor filming around stunning Sedona, Arizona. ❤ The 'funny' part was that they said that the new treaty was signed around 1866, but Jim Bowie actually died decades earlier at the Texas Alamo in 1836. 🤣 Nonetheless, Maureen O'Hara is looking as pretty as ever, A Fine Irish Lass!!!! 🥰
That's Not the Shape of the Bowie Knife.... It Looks Like a Butcher's Knife..!!! More Like an Oriental.... in an Old Book... But it did Change to a Pirate Tip & Dip on the Spine as Year went on... & Folk would confuse it w/ an Arkansas Tooth Pick.... USMC Ka -Bar or Bayonet... has a Style of its Own.. Peace...
Maureen O'Hara was the best actress of her day IMO. Not just a very beautiful woman but a very talented actress.

Very good! It’s nice to see Maureen O’Hara.
Don't you think it strange she has an Irish accent while her brother does not?
To see Maureen before the Quiet Man, what a beautiful woman!

Jim Bowie, Jim Bowie - he was a bold, adventurous man.
He should have stayed out of Texas just like J. F. Kennedy should have stayed out of Texas.
