This is the most subversively brilliant advice I have heard. Seriously! If you can get your "flea legs"; learning to talk about your art in a way that comes easily to you, keeping your composure (and sense of humor) among the jerks, and maybe bring in a little coin, then wow--you are ahead of the game for sure. And if nothing else you can have a fine cheap lunch and grab your veggies on the way out!
Thanks for your videos. I just went yesterday to show my work for the first time. I ended up selling 2 paintings at the flea market. And then ended up selling one more afterwards just talking to someone about the experience. Thanks for the encouragement.
Hi guys...consistancy at markets is very important. People cant always purchase on the day but they will remember you so make sure you have business cards or flyers and keep turning up. One of my markets is so popular that I hardly get ti sit down. I get lots of cimmissions this way. Think of it as advertising.
It is terrifying that ones art is not good enough. I recently had someone abosolutely blown away by my art and bought the piece I thought was not ever going to sell! But she loves it and now another that saw it wants to buy as well! So I love all your advice!
Rafi, I started at a flea market too. Your advice is truly on point. It gets you out there, helps build confidence, and hopefully you sell. Thanks for your time and wisdom. You and Klee are the bomb!
Hey there you two! My first event was a farmers market. My first sale I had enough sense to not say anything but-ok let me wrap that up for you-even though I was in complete shock that someone wanted to buy my art. My husband was the one who said to the customer-REALLY?! Thanks Sweetheart that was a lot of help-NOT!
Flea rhymes with Klee. :D I had the thought early on why do they even call it a flea market? I am going to have to Google that. Surprised I didn't think of it before since I watch Flea Market Flip all the time. I may do the flea market thing at some point. I do have some really nice flea markets around here. - Heidi
The first sale I made (a necklace), my hubby took the money from the customer, and said, "Oh!! You just made my wife SO happy!" I wanted to crawl under a rock. LMAO
What I am about to do selling my art at the flea market is also sell secondhand stuff that I want to sell ie. clothes I don’t fit into anymore etc. I am nervous but excited at the same time 😃
Hey don't laugh. I make jewelry and I've been to craft shows that were mainly for higher end stuff, and other shows where it was mostly grandmas crochaed pot-holders. I have been told I wasn't charging enough, and I even told a girl that she wasn't charging enough. Some crafters won't try to help newbies just starting out but I will. When I first started I got advice from others who were more experienced, now I want to pay it forward.
Miss Nancy Lee that’s awesome of you , I have run into that so much , a lot people don’t realize, everyone started at the beginning. That’s what’s so awesome about rafi and Klee they give all kinds of advice , even when they are struggling themselves
Omg, I actually said "are you sure?" to my very first festival customer. Ha. Thanks, you two, for your continued wisdom sharing!
Plus, I was nervously fumbling with my Square device, and this sweet soul actually helped me figure it out!
That shirt is everything, Klee! 😂
