If Peter is the first leader of the RCC then there is no greater contrast between what he preached and the RCC preaches, he never venerated Mary, he never sought indulgences or political power, he never sought out heretics to prosecute them, he never claimed authority over the secular authorities, he never lived in wealthy palaces.
Tertullian [T]he Lord said to Peter, “On this rock I will build my Church, I have given you the keys of the kingdom of heaven [and] whatever you shall have bound or loosed on earth will be bound or loosed in heaven” [Matt. 16:18-19]. … Upon you, he says, I will build my Church; and I will give to you the keys, not to the Church; and whatever you shall have bound or you shall have loosed, not what they shall have bound or they shall have loosed (Modesty 21:9-10 [A.D. 220]). Letter of Clement to James Simon [Peter], who, for the sake of the true faith, and the most sure foundation of his doctrine, was set apart to be the foundation of the Church, and for this end was by Jesus himself, with his truthful mouth, named Peter, the first-fruits of our Lord, the first of the apostles; to whom first the Father revealed the Son; whom the Christ, with good reason, blessed; the called, and elect (Letter of Clement to James 2 [A.D, 221]). Clement of Alexandria [T]he blessed Peter, the chosen, the preeminent, the first among the disciples, for whom alone with himself the Savior paid the tribute [Matt. 17:27], quickly grasped and understood their meaning. And what does he say? “Behold, we have left all and have followed you” [Matt. 19:2 7, Mark 10:28] (Who is the Rich Man that is Saved? 21:3-5 [A.D. 200]). 220]).

@@asliketheson the problem is that the Early Church always interpreted it in a different way. In fact, the authority of the list of canonical books rests on the authority of the successor of Peter, delegated by Jesus himself. We can see this by reading Pope Damasus I list. Protestantism and Evangelicalism are the fast food of Christianity. People choose a church as they choose between McDonald's or Burger King. That leads to a theological obesity problem, with different denominations teaching multiple, old, new and contradictory doctrines, all claiming to be based upon the confession of Peter. There are more than 200 Baptist denominations in the US alone. As the early Church Fathers used to say there's only one Church, with one faith, one baptism, one Lord one Eucharist, one soul, one mouth and one teaching. That's the Catholic Church.

Nice job Catholic Truth explaining all the common non-Catholic objections against “Peter is the Rock.” Read Matt 16:18-19, Christ clearly established only one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church, the Catholic Church. And there is only one Bible, the Catholic Bible because the Holy Spirit led Peter, the Apostles their successors to all truth. Jesus never made those same promises to non-Catholics like Luther, Calvin or Zwingli or their successors.
@nosuchthing8 You are absolutely correct. However the Bible tells us Jesus gave only the Catholic Church, the Church of the living God the fullness of truth.
@@Spiritof76CatholicFalse and I would humble myself if I were you because you’re taking pride in a denomination and your church which is a sin you will be judged for. Apostle Simon Bar-Jonah was renamed by Christ Jesus into CEPHAS (Rock in Hebrew) to remind us all (Christian Believers) that Father GOD/YHWH had chosen him to reveal Christ Jesus' TRUE IDENTITY as the "Son/Word of the Living God," that Jesus is not only a MESSIAH but also God (Divine) Himself incarnated into FLESH (Man). Christ Jesus knew from the very start that He would ascend back to Heaven with His Father after He accomplished His Mission... therefore, Christ Jesus, had to pass the Title "CEPHAS" (Rock) to Apostle Simon Bar-Jonah and gave him the KEYS (Authority) to "BIND and LOOSE" on Earth and in Heaven... Not ALL Apostles were given the KEYS... The Scripture specifically and directly given to Apostle Simon Bar-Jonah only as the FIRST ROCK of the Church of God... Take Note:... Eastern Orthodox Christianity also understands that Peter was the Rock. And before becoming the First Pope of Rome, Peter was the first Patriarch of Antioch, which Church also still exists with a Patriarchate which still sits on that Throne of Peter as well. As a result, the Antiochian Orthodox Church also follows the Throne of Peter in the East.
There is only one chair of Peter and that resides in Rome. That is where both Paul and Peter were martyred and that’s why all of Peter’s successors (every pope throughout history) have resided there.. This see is so important it was universal custom to call it the Holy See, given its preeminence among the rest. So don’t try to mislead anyone with none sense like the throne of Peter is in multiple places. That’s not how the bishops chair of authority works. There’s only one. And unless you’re in communion with Peter’s current successor Pope Francis, then you are not in communion with Peter. This is the ancient deposit of faith. @@NewNoise1 The 2 main issues were the addition of the filioque to the Nicene Creed regarding the Procession of the Holy Spirit (the original creed stated He proceeds from the Father, whereas the Western Church added "from the Father AND THE SON". The Eastern Bishops rejected this as non-canonical and non-biblical, and would not agree to the addition. The issue was that of Papal Supremacy. The West claimed that the Pope was the Head of the entire Church. This was rejected by the Eastern Bishops, who had always believed they were all equal, and that the Pope was the First Among Equals, which was in honor and respect, but not of authority over the others. As a result of these 2 discrepancies, in 1054 the Pope excommunicated the Patriarch of Constantinople, and subsequently the entire Eastern Church. Likewise, the Eastern Churches excommunicated the Pope, but have stayed in communion with each other, as the Eastern Orthodox Churches. From that, the honor of "First Among Equals" shifted to the Patriarch of Constantinople to this day. However, although honored as a figurehead, he does not possess any authoritative power or jurisdiction Over the other churches, who each have their own Patriarch.

Thanks so much for clearing this up, Bryan! Sometimes actions speak louder than words, so I always like to ask, "based on the actions of the other Apostles and the 1st century Church, did THEY believe in the primacy of Peter?" Overwhelmingly the answer is "Yes".
Isa. 44:8: “Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.” This should settle any idea of anyone else being called the foundation stone for the Church. Moses was told by the Lord in Exod. 17:6: “Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Paul using the Old Testament example explains in 1 Cor. 10:4: “and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.” In the New Testament it is the same rock. The altars built in the Old Testament were a type of the rock who was God. They were altars of offering and sacrifice, the rock that was laid in Zion was the foundation stone and the Church was built on this rock, a offering and sacrifice. The Church is made of those who confess just as Peter (through revelation) that he was the Son of the living God, God the savior. This is why they were told not to tell others what Peter had said, but to allow others to come to this conclusion on their own. For one to confess this it means that they also believe in the gospel to save them. Not a Church , sacraments, baptism or any other thing. But the gospel itself instantly and gloriously transfers God's mercy to the sinner by admitting his guilt and believing on the saviors work. (1 Cor.15:1-4) Matt 7:2:4 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.” The saying were pointing to the Messiah, to act on what he said was to build on the foundation of the rock. Is this Peter? No of course not, it is Christ (Lk.20:17-19 tells us it is Jesus who is the rock). Who would know better than anyone else what Jesus meant? Peter right! Lets see how Peter interprets what the church now claims is applied to him.1 Pt.2:6 Peter quotes this verse of Rom.9:33 which is from Isa.28:16. The Old Testament was written in the Hebrew language and the rock refers to Christ, Paul agrees with Peter on the rock that stumbled Israel and uses the very same Old Testament scripture. Rom 9:31-33: “but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone. As it is written: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense, and whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” Is Peter the first Pope? When you read Peter's statement in context, one understands immediately what he is talking about, it is that simple. Roman Catholicism says the rock is Peter, Peter says otherwise. Peter, the very one to whom Jesus is speaking to states in 1 Pt.2:4 “Coming to Him (Christ) as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men. It was Christ we come to. Peter here tells every Christian that he is a small stone along with the rest of us vs.5,” built up into a spiritual “temple,” and Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone (the rock). Peter quotes Isaiah, the prophet, who was speaking of prophetically of the coming of The Messiah. This question must be explained by the Catholic. God Himself and has built the Church. If Peter really was the “cornerstone “Why didn't Isaiah say “Behold I lay in Rome a chief cornerstone?” Because it was laid in Zion not Rome. This crucial to understand where the authority lies. And what kind of a stone is he that wavers in his faith. So the rock couldn't possibly be Peter who is just man. Imagine no ekkleesia (Church) without Peter? Since when is God so dependent on one man to do his work? God has not entrusted any human being to build the ekkleesia or have it built on them. He built it upon HIMSELF, by Jesus Christ. It is the stone that the builders rejected that became the chief cornerstone, the rock that the church is built on. As Peter says God laid in Zion a stone a chief cornerstone which is the foundation stone to the building, which is the Church. A cornerstone is a huge rock, this is the rock that Christ was speaking of. And it must be something that is eternal, a living stone to last through all the ages. In 1 Pt.2:7, “Behold I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious stone (Peter is not saying I am precious) and he who believes on him will by no means be put to shame.” Is this Peter we are to believe on? Peter goes on saying in v.7 “Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone, “and “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.” Who was rejected? Christ. What is the church built on? Christ. Who is one to believe on? Christ. Who do you trust and believe in? Christ. If one trusts in Peter they will be ashamed. Certainly not Peter nor any other apostle called themselves the foundation or had one to believe on them. we are told to believe on the stone, speaking of Christ. 1 Pt.5:4 Peter goes on to identify the chief shepherd as Jesus. Not himself! Therefore to you who believe he is precious but to those who are disobedient (disbelieve) the stone that the builders rejected became the chief cornerstone. Who was rejected? Christ. what is the church built on? Christ. Who is one to believe on? Christ. who do you trust? Christ. If one trusts in Peter they will be ashamed, he is the wrong foundation. Ps.18:31 “For who is our God except the Lord and who is our rock except our God. who is the church built on? In 2 Cor.3:10 Paul claims to be a master builder and says there is no other foundation that can be laid, which is Jesus Christ. “According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” Eph.2:20, “Having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone.” The cornerstone was a massive rock cut as the foundation stone which is put in the corner and out of both sides would come the apostles and prophets. The Builder and Maker of the church is Christ himself; as he states, “I will build it”. The Church is a living temple which is a dwelling place for the holy Spirit and we are temple made up of living stones which He is building together. Peter writing to the Christians dispersed through the Roman provinces in Asia (1 Peter 1:1) in 1 Pt.2:5 You also as living stones are being built up to a spiritual house.” Heb.3 “For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.” V.6 “But Christ as a Son over his own house whose house we are.” Christ is the head of the house which is the body of Christ. He is the architect (builder) of all things even the church is built by and on Christ. Christ is the head of the body, together and as individuals we are directed by Him, not by a priesthood or a Pope. The Popes say that Peter was the rock, but Peter himself said Jesus is the rock (1 Peter 2:4-8). He even preaches this to all of Israel in Acts 4:11speaking of Christ, “This is the stone the builders rejected (Christ) which has become the chief cornerstone”, he then proclaims there is salvation in no other “for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” That rock is our salvation, this is what the Church is built upon. Salvation is found in the person of Christ not in the church or in sacraments. It is found in the rock just as Jesus said, he would build his church on this confession. The rock was the confession of Peter’s revelation, this is the very reason why he is commended. This is something the Father testified all through Christ’s ministry. Sometimes it was audible as at the baptism and the transfiguration when the Father spoke “this is my beloved son” and accompanied it by supernatural signs. It is this confession of Jesus being the Son of God that the universal church is built on. Luke 20:17-19: “Then He looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone?” Whoever falls on that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.” And the chief priests and the scribes that very hour sought to lay hands on Him, but they feared the people-- for they knew that He had spoken this parable against them.” Have you fallen on this stone who is Christ? Which stone are you on? For if you have not fallen on the stone, it will one fall on you and crush you.
The Roman Catholic Church uses the argument that Peter is the rock to which Jesus referred as evidence that it is the one true church. As we have seen, Peter’s being the rock is not the only valid interpretation of this verse. Even if Peter is the rock in Matthew 16:18, this is meaningless in giving the Roman Catholic Church any authority. Scripture nowhere records Peter being in Rome. Scripture nowhere describes Peter as being supreme over the other apostles. The New Testament does not describe Peter as being the “all authoritative leader” of the early Christian church. Peter was not the first pope, and Peter did not start the Roman Catholic Church. The origin of the Catholic Church is not in the teachings of Peter or any other apostle. If Peter truly was the founder of the Roman Catholic Church, it would be in full agreement with what Peter taught (Acts chapter 2, 1 Peter, 2 Peter).
The Catholic Church has been properly interpreting the words Jesus Christ spoke in these passages of Sacred Scripture since Jesus started his Church. Thank you for your opinion but that’s all it is. Sola Scriptura is one fallible man pitting his fallible interpretation against another fallible man’s. Our Sola is bigger than your sola. God bless you.
Jesus changing peters name is super important To Catholics and to all in the Bible who Yet, if you’re a Protestant, Peters new name is Completely meaningless
Anything can be meaningless to a Protestant. The criteria is whether or not it supports their bias. They claim to adhere to the Bible, but in reality nothing binds their conscience: only THEY individually can bind their own conscience. This is the result of the unChristian beliefs of Sola Scriptura, Sola Fide, and private judgment of Scripture.
@@iroh8946 greetings Iroh. I dont want to speak for Bryan but i thought maybe he is very busy and may need reminder. In the mean time i offer my input. We Catholics, and the pope himself, considers the pope nothing more than human as vs 4 says. He is the voice of God not God Himself. Verse 7 is clear on this “…only God causes the growth”. If we thought the pope was God we would have to wonder - to whom it is he confesses his sins to when he goes to confession? Or why would he sacrifice a Mass to Jesus for? Peace!!!
Question, do you have a good resource for looking up the Greek word and the definition for a verse? 2nd question, I was recently in a faith alone/works conversation with a protestant and I explained that salvation comes not by faith alone but by faith, repentance, baptism, and truly living out your faith. Will we fall short? Absolutely, and on the last day we will rely and trust in Jesus to be saved. His response was that all those things are all a “sign” of faith and are not seperate from faith and that’s why it’s faith alone. It seems like a chicken or the egg argument, but I honestly wasn’t sure how to respond to that?

This is not the only verse, but you are correct that just being the rock alone doesn't make him the pope period although it kind of does. It was the keys of the kingdom of heaven he received, him alone, that gave him a special primacy of authority. All the apostles received authority from Christ to run the church, for Peter received a special unique authority in the keys. (See Is. 22)

Thank you for the questions. We believe that the Catholic Church was started by Jesus, not Peter. We already told you, it says that Jesus would give peter, singular in greek, the Keys of the Kingdom of heaven. Nowhere did he say he would ever give them to anyone else. Unless you can provide a verse proving that.
This only reinforces my position that Protestants do not care about trying to be Christian but rather to oppose the Church at all costs .Because trying to deny the obvious reality of Papal Office and its Authority leads them to blaspheme against the Divine Lord Christ by claiming He was a socially inept fool since in their version He changes a Man's name for all time for apparently no reason or deep meaning and then changes the subject in the very same sentence while using the same terminology to refer to different concepts .God is not a Fool .
If it weren't in the Bible, Protestants would be accusing Catholics of committing blasphemy by calling Peter the Rock, a term reserved for God in both the Old and New Testaments. But there's a reason Jesus uses this term, and that is because Peter is the Vicar of Christ on earth. Their argument is not with the Church but with Jesus. :)
@@jennernolast6858 It is very easy to deceive ourselves when we are emotionally, intellectually and historically tied to a tradition. But you have the added burden of claiming the Bible as your only source of religious truth. This makes for some amusing mental gymnastics.
@@rhwinner Protestants don't believe that the Bible is the only source of religious truth. We recognize that the church has authority and communicates truth. We would say that the Bible is the only infallible source of truth. This is the meaning of Sola Fide, not what you suggest it is.
@@stueve I must admit that is not a Protestant response I expected. In what specific ways do you incorporate in your particular worship tradition Paul's pronouncement, the Church is the pillar and foundation of Truth?
@@rhwinner Thanks for your reply. I'm a little surprised that this would be an unexpected response; it's the historical view of Sola Fide. In any case, various English translations render Paul differently here. The ESV and NASB I think do a better job than the NIV or the KJV. The NASB, for example, render "στῦλος καὶ ἑδραίωμα" as pillar and support. It's problematic that "ἑδραίωμα" is a hapax legomenon, and therefore tricky to translate. When Paul uses the word translated foundation in 1 Corinthians 3:11, the Greek is "θεμέλιον", entirely different, for example. I'd be careful how much theology I'd build on a hapax. I don't think Paul is trying to communicate here that the church is the source of truth. I think what's being communicated is that the church is responsible for holding up and holding firm the truth of scripture and the gospel.

They are in denial. They have to avoid any reference to Peter unless it would be to point out his flaws. Just like they would avoid talking about the blessed Virgin Mary. They might talk about just any person, Mary Magdalene, Ruth, the woman at the well, but never the mother of God. They are afraid of sounding Catholic.
@@luisaymerich9675 God is before all, that would include Mary, she is not the mother of God, she was the mother of Jesus in His humanity not His Divinity. Origen was the first person to refer to Mary as "mother of God" in 254 AD.
@@shanebell2514 No one denies that God is above all creation including the Blessed Virgin Mary. But being the mother of Jesus make Mary the mother of God. At which point in time was Jesus not God? He was God before creation. He was God at His conception. He is God every day thereafter forever. And the first time she was called the mother of God was in the bible when her cousin Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, proclaimed who am I that the mother of my Lord should come to me.
@@luisaymerich9675 It is a paradox that you say God is above all creation yet say Mary is the mother of God, to be a mother means to exist before the offspring, like my mum existed before me and yours existed before you, like I said Mary was the mother of Jesus in His humanity not His Divinity, remember Christ had 2 natures. Elizabeth was not calling Mary the mother of God in the sense you think of, she was referring to her giving birth to the incarnation of the Lord, not the Divinity of the Lord. Just like muslims accuse Christians of saying God died, God has never died, the humanity of Christ died not His Divinity. Christ Himself rebuked the first Marian devotion in Luke 11:27-28.
Mr Mercier, I have a question regarding some Protestant accusations against the Church that I have had trouble refuting. What do you say to a Protestant who accuses the Church of not enforcing Gods law regarding modesty? They will reference Scripture regarding this although, admittedly I do not remember the exact verses. The only response I’ve really come up with is the tu quoque of the “Protestants do it too,” sort, and to ask them how dress codes and modesty have anything to do with the salvation of souls, pointing out that they miss the point about Gods relationship with His people by making an accusation and big deal about them.
I suppose you could always ask them where the Bible says you should enforce modesty. I don't see any command in the Bible to do that. Second, you might want to start by agreeing that modesty is a good thing and that it should be encouraged. And perhaps the church is not encouraging that as much as they should, but that is something we could work on in the church. It certainly doesn't disprove the Church.
@@rosiegirl2485 An idol is an 'authority' that can't actually speak. It's man made. The people who control the propaganda surrounding the idol can make it say anything they want it to say. Idols help the power-hungry to control others through fear. So in reality, the entire idol system is a way of rejecting God's true authority and putting very corrupt men in charge. Such men have created a god to suit themselves. They have rejected God as He really is. They want to give an account of themselves to no one. Protestants often do this with the inanimate Bible. Why does Mary have to be a perpetual virgin? I personally don’t believe she was perfect either, but is sex all of a sudden sinful? That’s the question I have for Catholics.
No, it's not sinful, but it's not why she was chosen. She was chosen to raise the Son of God not to have a normal family. Also people in her community were known for taking vows of celibacy. So she had chosen to do that for God already.

The true reason why Christ Jesus have to change the name of Simeon Bar-jonah into Cephas/Kepha/Peter was not that he is the Rock of the Church of God but to 'REMIND" us all (starting from the Apostles to our present generation today) that thru Cephas/Kepha/Peter the revelation of God the Father who spoke through Christ Jesus was REVEALED that upon His only begotten Son as the Rock foundation, Father God's Chruch was built... that is why the Keys of the Gate of Heaven was given to Peter. Isn't the image of peter actually the statue of the god Jupiter. And they just renamed the idol of the god Jupiter to peter. Can you explain why the church did that I'm concerned of my catholic faith.
What proof do you have that it's the god Jupiter, and why would the god Jupiter have a cross in his hand? And why would the Catholic Church do that anyways? Sounds like a conspiracy theory from anti-catholics to me.
Protestants confuse so much who is the rock. Jesus said it plainly that Simon is the rock. The rocks that Jesus referred subsequently in the verses are other followers and believers of Jesus. Upon these rocks that Jesus will built his church. The church is the body of Jesus comprising those followers/believers! Jesus is the main faith! Jesus said, Peter is a rock. And Jesus is the church built on the rocks. The 'rocks, is plural to refer to followers who have faith in Jesus. That is why Jesus wanted to build the church on the rocks. Jesus did not say, I am the rock! Jesus asked Peter, after declaring him the rock, to look after the followers of Jesus. Jesus built the church on Peter and Jesus asked Peter to be the first to lead and look after the followers! This group of followers are the church led by Peter after Jesus ascended into heaven.
The first time I listened to your video I got confused and so came back with a pat. CATHOLICS We Catholics are proud of you Protestants. The reason behind this being that your acting a menace to Catholic Faith carried a potential for Catholics to establish the Faith on a strong footing. Catholics thereby need not embark upon a new warfare to assert it's true mark or grade of divine backing. Catholic Church thus managed to maintain its Number One among all the believers in that, when you broke away from Catholic Church it implied that you failed to see eye to eye with God himself. We are truly grateful to you for that. Incidentally your protest was all together a fatal departure, not to use the word disgrace for God in that you could not see eye to eye with God for which Lucifer too had asserted his pride and God gave him his place. So remember the fight for salvation is tougher for Protestants with many feathers from your wings plucked, removed or discarded on your own for God to do the rest. Do you still believe that you have the divine backing when you of your own relegated the chosen and loved ones of God to an inferior position - leave out the respecting part of man, woman, angels or the saints, because you took the very first commandment of God to distance even Virgin Mary to make her appear less dignified than even the prominence given to her by God Himself. Then how can you be Jesus-like when you not only differed with God but that you took to despising even the very immaculate womb that held Jesus as a child conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit? We the Catholics still love you as part of humanity, as a portion of our Christian fold. Yes let us sail together for our destination is one and the same in the hope that you return to a statusquo before even the cock crows. Yes it is important that we learn to deny our own taste, our pride, our whims and fancies and learn to bend our will to the one and the oneness of God. Your protest went even further on whereby you knowing full well that God is one and the only Infinite Being but still you had a separate Holy Bible printed to rely on. Does this mean your next demand would be for a separate heaven all for your individual comfort? Quite baffling isn't it? If idolatory is the issue you want to harp on then does not your difference of view, your difference of looking at God, His worship or adoration appear an integral part of the idolatory issue you are relying on? Where then have you left the commandment on idolatory and where have you brought the same issue to rub shoulders on? An assurance of your own (Protestants) salvation is also not in the Bible. For as Catholic prior to your protest you got yourself and followers baptised then you defiled that sacrament of baptism to assert or counsel God in terms of a separate identity? Here how should God see you as? As a follower or as a bad thief who had the temerity to deride Jesus? Moreover the first commandment does not ask you (Protestants) to bend to the middle of opposite sex to worship another's body instinct - to state things very precisely to prove yourselves as Imposters. Remember that the Holy Bible is only a medium of salvation but nowhere is it an end in itself. If Protestant groups get indoctrinated by false doctrines, beliefs or whimsical notions of make believe idiosyncrasies, they would need to cross-check or double check with the Holy Trinity as to whether and where the first commandment pointed to ignoring, disrespecting or ganging up against Virgin Mary or to instigate others against Virgin Mary, the angels or the saints merely on the strength of the first commandment? Remember the first commandment is only a commandment admonishing the faithful to worship God only but not a free will to ignore or disrespect God's chosen ones. As such the Protestant groups may think in terms of having a rethink on the issue of Virgin Mary and the sway held by her over the Christian flock. Do not be indoctrinated by false doctrines and literal interpretations. For the Christian flock would need to go by the Holy Bible, the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and facts revealed during the course of various apparitions by Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary, the angels and the saints. Incidentally the Protestant groups may need to back-track on the allegation of idolatory flung at the Catholics by their own quantum of mythology adopted on the question of Holy Bible, the first commandment and the spill of venom against the Catholic Church. You are propagating myth, you are distorting God's own will, you are defiling God and you are uttering falsehood. Remember this your belief amounts to propagating falsehood. We (this writer) - the Catholics - meaning our forefathers were called to be followers of Jesus after St. Thomas the Apostle of Jesus set foot in Kerala in 53 A.D. when half of Kerala turned Christians. Only after that the Protestants broke away on the concept of Virgin Mary. Remember you in the North (north India to be precise) were brought to be followers by us from the South. Hence one from the North ought not promote a dogma of their own contrary to God's will and interest. This would be asserting a right to teach or rectify God or His teaching. Protestants baptise grown ups wading in waist deep water holding the bodies of females and dipping to exit out of water. Has anyone ever given a wee little thought that handling especially females is what brings sin in to people? When a group handles work and formalities without handling that group may be said to be pure and unblemished faith. --------------------------------------- This baptism that you showed in the video (Refering to a Protestant video) is of Protestants viz. Orthodox, Church of North India, Baptist or Methodist. Catholics baptise a child not by dipping the child in the water but with just two drops of water poured on the forehead of the child while pronouncing the words I baptise you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen. And baptism of children is always right because while a child of God is born one must offer him to God for ecclesiastic purposes of record. Just because when Jesus was born St. John the Baptist was not around does not mean that like Jesus a person should not be baptised as a child but must wait for him to grow up to commit sins to add to his own and God Almighty's burden. And why do people make video if they are not aware of truth? Your assumption is that God should not own mankind in entirety right from childhood but that man should grow up to decide. Then why do we not advise God to have man born matured? You are thus acting extra God or equal to God. ⚪⚫⚪⚫⚪⚫⚪⚫⚪⚫⚪⚫⚪⚫⚪⚫

Good evening to you. I would like to bring up a few issues I have with this topic on why Peter could not have possibly been the first "pope". Peter was called to preach the circumcised, then how was he in Rome preaching to the gentiles? That was Pauls job...Paul also said he wasn't going where the gospel has already been preached, but to go where it has not been preached to spread the word...Why would he of been in Rome if Peter was there? Paul also cited many people he greeted while in Rome, many many people, kind of a big deal to leave Peter off that list right? He was also imprisonsed in Rome and named everyone that came to visit him...Peter was not on thst list. Peter was not the pope in Rome sir.
Thanks for the comment. Peter may have preached to the circumcised, but he was still one of the church leaders in Jerusalem who met in Council to discuss and decide doctrines. Acts 15:1-11. Protestant say that he had nothing to do with the gentiles, but biblically speaking, this is inaccurate. Peter was the one who received the Revelation about the Gentiles and was the one who welcomed them into the Church. He's also the one who authoritatively settled the matter on whether they needed to be circumcised or not when entering the church. So preaching to the Jews was not his only mission. Jesus said feed and tend his shape, not just the Jewish ones, but all of them (Jn 21:15-17).

Good morning Bryan, Is Peter the Rock, the foundation of the church or is Peter's affirmation that Jesus is, "the Christ the Son of the living God the ROCK that the Church is built on? I ask this because you said the church is built on the foundation of the apostles (plural) and the prophets (plural). You went from Peter being the foundation to the apostles being the foundation. Which is it? You also said Peter was given the keys to the kingdom but Jesus also gave those keys to the other apostles (Matt 18:18). I ask again, is Peter the Rock, the foundation of the church or is Peter's affirmation that Jesus is, "the Christ the Son of the living God the Rock that the Church is built on? It seems to be the latter. Lastly, if Peter is the Rock that Jesus built His church wouldn't Peter have written about the specific qualifications, requirements and roles in the church? He didn't. It was the apostle Paul who did. In fact, Paul is credited with writing over 40% of the new testament. From Peter we have two letters (1st and 2nd Peter) where he makes no mention being himself the Rock that Jesus built his church on. Neither does the book of Acts, Romans, Ephesians, Galatians, Colossians, Philippians, 1st and 2nd Corinthians, Thessalonians, and Timothy, 1st-3rd John, James, Titus, Hebrews, Philemon, Jude, or Revelation. Surely if Peter was that Rock the entire NT would confirm that. What is confirmed throughout the NT is that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. We can conclude that Peter's affirmation that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God is thee "ROCK" that our Savior built His church upon.
Jesus trained the apostles and established them to be the leaders of the church. He gave his authority to them and they had the authority to teach and preach, to correct and reprove, and to make doctrine. And if you did not obey the authority of the Apostles then you were not in the church. Peter had a special Authority and a special Primacy because you're going received the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven from Jesus in Matthew 16:19. There are many things that are not outlined in the Bible, and there are many things that could have been written but was. Argument in silence don't really hold up, and assuming Peter would write or would not write something is just total conjecture. Especially considering the majority of what the apostles taught was orally and not written down. They instructed people in person, top people in person, and even Paul said that he only wrote some things but prefer to teach the rest in person. So maybe these things work hot and handed down, but he just didn't commit them to writing. But the earliest Christians all confirming what we are teaching here. They all said that Peter was the Rock and Christ made him the rock. Obviously Christ is the ultimate Rock and Cornerstone. The king and Israel had a prime minister who had Authority Under the king, so Peter has authority under Jesus. Hope that helps.
@@CatholicTruthOfficial Good evening Bryan I just read Matt 16:13-20 again. Nothing there to suggest Peter being the next successor; vicar of Christ or head of the church. Everything there confirming that Jesus is Israel’s long awaited Messiah (“You are the Christ…”) and that upon that revelation from God to Peter … Christ would build His church. Jesus wraps it up in verse 20 when He says, “Then He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that “He” was the Christ.” Jesus gave Peter, Paul, John and the the rest of the apostles the keys to the church. He gave them authority to what? To observe all that He (Jesus) commanded. “And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." -Matthew 28:18-20
Matthew 18:18. All the Apostles equally share in the office of Apostle. All are apostles. Matthew 16 obviously brings out that among the Twelve, one is "first" (cf. Matt 10: 1-4). Additionally, I have yet to see an Orthodox apologist grapple with the reality that alone among the Apostles (individually), Jesus changes only 'Simon bar Jonah's' name (cf. John 1:42). In light of the fact that YHWH changed the name of Abram to Abraham when He established His covenant with humankind, and sent Abraham out as His covenant mediator (Gen 17, particularly vs. 5), and did the same thing when He extended His covenant to Abraham's grandson Jacob (to Israel; cf. Gen 32: 23-33, particularly vs. 29), Jesus Christ's doing the same thing at John 1:42 seems highly significant and singles Cephas out as Jesus Christ's prime minister.
No they don't all share the same authority. Only Peter received the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven alone uniquely from jesus. The Bible never says that the other Apostles do. Only peter. Peter is mentioned in the bible 195 times. Saint John, 29 times, St. James 16 times. Peter does first miracle and the first speech. Peter receives the revelations from God. He has a special relationship with Christ who trains him. Acts 15:11. Peter alone settled the dispute. Lists of apostles are always Peter and 11. Peter and the others. Peter and the Apostles. He is always listed 1st and Judas last. Luke 5:1-10: Peter chosen for ministry as fisher of men. Luke 22:24-32. Leader of the brothers. John 21:1-17: chosen as shepherd of church under Christ.
In Mt. 16:18-19, Jesus makes Peter the head of the church and calls him the rock. He even changes his name from Simon to Peter, which means rock. He even calls him the rock at other times as well (Jn. 1:42 - Cephas mens Rock). Jesus traveled with the apostles hundreds of miles to Cesarea Philippi where there is a huge 500 foot rock. That is the exact spot that Jesus changed Simon's name to Rock. Name changes are significant in Scripture. When Jesus changes his name from Simon to Peter, it symbolizes a change in status and a change in mission (like Abram to Abraham and Issac to Israel, etc). Peter was receiving a special call to be the head of the church which is why he alone singularly received the keys of the kingdom alone. The keys come from Isaiah 22 and symbolize the primacy of authority over the whole household of God. We agree Jesus is the ultimate rock, cornerstone and foundation of the church. Some people say that Jesus is the rock so Peter cannot be. But two people can be the same thing in different ways. For example, in Ephesians 2:20, it says the apostles and the prophets are the foundation. But in the book of Revelation, it says Jesus is the foundation. It's not a contradiction, it's just different understandings. Jesus is the ultimate rock and cornerstone, but he clearly made Peter the head of the church when he gave him the keys of the Kingdom and a special authority. Thus, the Church is built on Peter as Jesus said, but he is the ultimate cornerstone.
@@CatholicTruthOfficial Apparently you didn't read my post all the way through. Full disclosure, for those of us who don't know how to read and think critically at the same time, I am a Catholic. They all were called and 'sent' by Jesus Christ (the Greek work 'apostolos' literally means 'one who is sent', such as an ambassador or envoy). However, the part of my post you ignored, among 'the Twelve, three had a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ (Peter, James, and John - all three were with Him on Mt. Tabor during the Transfiguration; all three were present with Him on the night He was betrayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, called to pray with Him / near Him as He prayed prior to His Passion a d death), AND among those three, Peter has the singular role as Jesus Christ's Prime Minister, the 'rock' upon which He builds His Church, Cephas / Simon Peter.
So is Peter. He doesn't say the testimony is the rock, he says YOU (Simon) are the rock. And it's not an accident that he changed his name from Simon to Peter which means rock. Jesus also called him the rocket other times to prove this (Jn. 1:42. Cephas = rock).
Donominations may disagree upon many doctrines. But there is one doctrine that a Christian should cannot afford to get wrong, ie repent and forsake your sin.
Let us analyze the letter of Ignatius of Antioch to Smyrnaeans (c. 110 A.D./2nd Cent. A.D.)... Question?... Does Ignatius write the Greek words in his letter as "Ekklesia KATHOLIKOS" (Univeral Church) as the "TITLE" of the 7 Churches...or... does he use the Greek word "Katholikos" (Catholicus in Latin) as an "ADJECTIVE" referring (talking about the whole) to the first 7 Churches of Asia Minor in 1st Cent. A.D. mentioned in the book of Revelation... Answer... Ignatius used the word in his letter as a Greek ADJECTIVE and not as a NOUN for the TITLE of the 7 Churches... It is all about "WORD USAGE, USAGE, USAGE.!" Now, therefore... why will somebody with a sound body and mind, use a Greek "ADJECTIVE" word whose English meaning is "Universal" to be the "TITLE" of the Roman Church?... Is it odd to say that they have translated practically everything into English words but still "KEPT" the Latin word such as "The Roman "Catholic" Apostolic Church" instead of "The Roman "Universal" Apostolic Church?"... Why CHANGED the Title of the Church?... instead of keeping the written original Greek Title of the Church as "EKKLESIA TOU THEOU" (Church of God) known by all Apostles/Disciples/martyrs and the early 7 Churches in the 1st Cent. A.D... The obvious reason, the Roman Catholic Apostolic Church "NEVER CAME" from the first 7 Churches of Asia Minor (Turkey) in the 1st Cent. A.D. mentioned in the Bible... They just tried to ASSOCIATED themselves in 4th Cent. A.D. with the 7 Churches of Asia Minor in the 1st Cent. A.D... And they claimed that St. Ignatius of Antioch (c. 50-140 A.D.) was one of the Bishop of Rome, while his persecutor was Romans (he was killed/martyrdom in Rome)... if St. Ignatius of Antioch is alive today, does he know that the "Title" of the Church of God that he knew very well since the 1st Century A.D. was changed into the Title of "CATHOLIC" (Universal) Church in the 4th Century A.D?... Amen.

Peter is the most mentioned apostle in the new testament with 139 mentions and John is the second most mentioned with 49.
The first in baptizing gentiles too
If Peter is the first leader of the RCC then there is no greater contrast between what he preached and the RCC preaches, he never venerated Mary, he never sought indulgences or political power, he never sought out heretics to prosecute them, he never claimed authority over the secular authorities, he never lived in wealthy palaces.

Nice job Catholic Truth explaining all the common non-Catholic objections against “Peter is the Rock.” Read Matt 16:18-19, Christ clearly established only one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church, the Catholic Church.
Why did the Orthodox Church separate from the Roman Catholic Church? Why are the different?
However, although honored as a figurehead, he does not possess any authoritative power or jurisdiction
Over the other churches, who each have their own Patriarch.

Very clear as day Peter is the rock and having authority over the apostles that's why the Orthodox church should submit to Rome . Case closed about 2000 years ago.
(1 Cor.15:1-4)
Matt 7:2:4 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.” The saying were pointing to the Messiah, to act on what he said was to build on the foundation of the rock.
As it is written: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense, and whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
Is Peter the first Pope?
For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Eph.2:20, “Having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone.” The cornerstone was a massive rock cut as the foundation stone which is put in the corner and out of both sides would come the apostles and prophets.

I don’t understand why Catholics rely on this verse to say the catholic church was founded on Peter. Why does that even make sense?
This is not the only verse, but you are correct that just being the rock alone doesn't make him the pope period although it kind of does. It was the keys of the kingdom of heaven he received, him alone, that gave him a special primacy of authority. All the apostles received authority from Christ to run the church, for Peter received a special unique authority in the keys. (See Is. 22)

Thank you for the questions. We believe that the Catholic Church was started by Jesus, not Peter. Jesus built the church on all of the apostles, but he gave Peter a special authority because Peter alone received the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Watching this with my hubby. This is good!

CATHOLICS
We Catholics are proud of you Protestants.
---------------------------------------
This baptism that you showed in the video (Refering to a Protestant video) is of Protestants viz.

Just because Peter wasn't mentioned he doesn't mean he was there. Every Christian in existence in the early church said he was there. Nobody said he went to anywhere else. The people who knew him that he was there. But Rome persecuted the Christian's hard and rome, so Paul might not have been wanting to implicate or call out the leader of the church before his protection.
Hey Brian. I would like you to make videos of the rest of the seven deadly sins, like you did with the video of sloth. I would like you to describe how does it attack you and what does it see. For example you said that sloth attacks you by tying you up with shackles and sees what's good, knows what it should and doesn't do it. Also say what we can use to overcome them, like you said with sloth. Remember, the rest of the seven deadly sins. Please. Thank you
We plan to. :)
Good morning Bryan,
Is Peter the Rock, the foundation of the church or is Peter's affirmation that Jesus is, "the Christ the Son of the living God the ROCK that the Church is built on?

Good evening Bryan
I just read Matt 16:13-20 again. Nothing there to suggest Peter being the next successor; vicar of Christ or head of the church. Everything there confirming that Jesus is Israel’s long awaited Messiah (“You are the Christ…”) and that upon that revelation from God to Peter … Christ would build His church. Jesus wraps it up in verse 20 when He says,
“Then He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that “He” was the Christ.”
Jesus gave Peter, Paul, John and the the rest of the apostles the keys to the church. He gave them authority to what? To observe all that He (Jesus) commanded.
“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." -Matthew 28:18-20

Where did Jesus give the other Apostles the "keys"?

I don't see it in my Bible? Or are you reading what you want into it? Binding and loosing is not the same as the keys, sorry.
Why do Orthodox claim the apostles were equal in authority? What is their evidence?
Good question.

Apparently you didn't read my post all the way through. Full disclosure, for those of us who don't know how to read and think critically at the same time, I am a Catholic. And, YES, there is a sense in which ALL of the Apostles have the same share in authority because ALL of them were called by Jesus Christ to be Apostles. All twelve Apostles ARE apostles.
Peter says you are the christ, jesus says on this rock, simply put, the testimony is the rock
So is Peter. He doesn't say the testimony is the rock, he says YOU (Simon) are the rock. And it's not an accident that he changed his name from Simon to Peter which means rock. Jesus also called him the rocket other times to prove this (Jn. 1:42. Cephas = rock).
@@CatholicTruthOfficial i think its psalms 21 then , we cant just pick and choose the word, its all or nothing
Take a look at john 1 , 1 also
If your going to build something, anything, you start at the beginning, not the middle or end, so, begin with the word
We agree, yet Protestants pick and choose the word. So much so that they don't even agree with each other and contradict each other on everything
It is all about "WORD USAGE, USAGE, USAGE.!"
Now, therefore... why will somebody with a sound body and mind, use a Greek "ADJECTIVE" word whose English meaning is "Universal" to be the "TITLE" of the Roman Church?...
Amen.
