Taking a break from modular for monetary reasons sadly, but man I can’t wait to get back into it! Your demos are always a charm to watch and the XPO is definitely going into the rack re-build!
So luscious! THE DPO has some real power, but I kinda like the more restrained tones of the XPO, and I love a lush stereo field right out of the box. Gorgeous stuff!
Robert, another great video that answers questions and questions answers. I never got a DPO for my homemade "Shared System" but went with two STOs. I added the XPO to the system on Saturday and left both STOs in to play along. I also settled on the same Shared System X name when I named by new Modular Grid rig. :) I saw Walker Farrell say a new Shared System with the XPO could happen. Maybe Shared System X is what they will call it. Thanks again for thought provoking insights!
Today, Moog Store in Asheville is closing out third party gear, so snagged XPO at reduced price. No Spectraphon which was my first choice. I have plenty of pairing options, so thanks for your suggestions of patches to try. Sad that what was Moog around here is changing. We lose our sole brick and mortar dealer for EuroCrack (is whack).
Yes, the circular and dynamic FM is very deep on the DPO. And a strike input is super. I was hoping for raw, new and dirty sounds from the XPO, but somehow in most demos I miss that, the QPAS or other modules shine more. Interested in XPO and Echophon exploration.
They both sound great. I was on a waiting list for the xpo but saw the dpo on eBay for a very good price so went with that. This vid somewhat vindicates my choice and cool patching to make dpo stereo too, I already have a few MN stereo modules so all in all a good fit.
The thought of patching up two XPO's make my brain hurt a bit. My XPO arrives today so I am looking forward to playing about with it. I am begining to wonder if I made a mistake purchasing it as I am not a big fan of panning and usually keep my stereo feilds somewhat focused.
I had a Mindphaser that I sold because I never wrapped my head around it. And I needed the HP. If I try another "complex" it will likely be a more compact one. But DPO was certainly on my list at one time.
I think the Instruo Cs-L is the smallest full featured Buchla 259 clone with lots of extras. I'll get one when I get the chance. Bastl Pizza is the smallest VCO that sounds like a complex oscillator and is super easy to control. Loquelic Iteritas is my favorite non Buchla design, combined with Mutable Stages and Optomix.
I'll be posting a video about the Ryk Vector Wave soon. If you love drones, this may be the one you're looking for. DPO can do amazing drones because it's a complex dual oscillator so plenty of life and movement. XPO eventually needs some help from a second VCO. Other amazing drone machines are the Loquelic Iteritas and Ensemble Oscillator. And don't forget Plaits. To be honest, a drone becomes lush by using a filter and a bit (or a lot) of reverb.
Wow, my Shared System X episode 2 will answer this. Definitely 2 x XPO which I nickname the DXPO. It can easily do DPO stuff, but goes much further than that. But the 'way' is 2xXPO + ModDemix. You need an FM/Mod bus.
@@eriksmeets9254 That's the combo MN is using in demos. It's more space friendly and STO is more like a helper VCO. But just count the outputs of a dual XPO :). Besides, STO is not available in black. It will not look right. So I think I'd go for the DPO instead of STO+XPO.
@@CinematicLaboratorythanks! i was thinking about this setup (2x XPO instead of 1x DPO). what do you think? cdn.modulargrid.net/img/racks/modulargrid_2513659.jpg
@@CinematicLaboratory I thought DPO was the same Osc as STO. Was wondering if XPO was the same and the differences were the designs in terms of signal flow etc.
Yes, I use the same layout in Episode 01 and it would be the 'go to' oscillator if it were available in black/gold. But I don't think that's going to happen.
Very helpful video, exactly what i was looking for. Now it is time to oscillate my xpo!

I think it's a great name. The original Shared was from 2012, now it's X years later.

Thank you for putting an oscilloscope on screen.
Excellent stuff!
4:20 The coolest sound in the session for me, but it’s the good old DPO. The wavefolding on the DPO also sounds deeper and richer, maybe it’s just me
No it's definitely not you. But it's a dual sine with FM bus. The typical power of a complex oscillator.

Great Video!!!! That really talked me out of buying a DPO ... as an idea for your ongoing jamuary: ever tried to combine the XPO with a 0-coast? 😅

Great music, interesting info, absolutely top-notch presentation. You keep getting better and better with each video!
Wow, thank you so much!

Very nice! would you recommend either for lush drones?

If you would build your first shared system, is 2x XPO the way to go or 1x DPO

Do you think the dpo would go well combined in a system with the xpo? Or would they sound way too similar apart from the stereo and pwm?
OK Yoda, clearly your mad science Fu FAR exceeds mine. As does your amount of spare time ;-)
More training you need!
Are your xpo’s tracking well v/oct? Mine only track well over around 4 octaves
Are the core of the oscs are the same with these?
Not sure what you mean, but DPO is different from XPO. DPO is more 'dirty'.

@@tris421 Well, you can see the difference on a scope but they are really close family. Tony described it in his PerfectCircuit XPO presentation.
A few hours ago i was checking to see if xpo video 2 appeared by magic and about one hour late there it is
Yes, it took a while but XPO needed to be in stock to get my second one.
In the Make Noise demo that just came out they used an STO as a modulator. It was really cool to see what they were thinking with the module.
