Absolutely! SEGA was an absolute beast in the arcade space in general. So many of their arcade games were cutting edge technology. Virtua Racing was obviously a big deal as was Virtua Fighter. Then Daytona USA, SEGA RALLY and just Sega Model 2 games in general were so smooth and crisp graphically. Others were doing great stuff too, but in the "polygonal graphics" arena of the arcade, SEGA always seemed to be on the frontlines.

Amazing game. I play on Genesis regularly lately. In a world record competition battle with the best on lvlupscore. I've had to re claim my gold multiple times. Lots of fun. Seeing the arcade version here is something very special. Never saw one in the wild, by the time I was old enough for arcades they all had Daytona instead. But always loved it for my Genesis. It's SVP chip allows for excellent gameplay, with the biggest disadvantage being digital control instead of analog.
The Genesis version is really impressive! I still play it as well. I'm not setting any records but I enjoy playing it. I only ever saw the arcade at one location and only for a short time. Indeed, when Daytona USA came out, it was gone. So, I actually played the Genesis version more. Even with digital steering & a low framerate, it plays really well. I was so disappointed in the Saturn version though. Mostly because of the incredibly WEAK engine sounds. The Genesis had some bass and punch to its sound.
@@GlaciusXL I agree. The Saturn version was a let down. Had more tracks and different cars but its overall feel was gone. It just didn't drive like Virtua Racing. Likely because it was done by Time Warner instead of Sega. When I had that I also had the 32X version and that got much more play. 32X plays just as well as Genesis except it's overly difficult to draft opponents. You have to nearly touch the opponent from behind to gain extra speed, as where the Genesis version you can be a few car lengths away and it'l suck you forward nicely. Drafting isn't really needed unless you're trying to win on the hard difficulty or beat a time. But besides that 32X is a beauty. Clearer graphics, cleaner vocals, and more drum sounds, 2 extra tracks and cars. But I gotta hand it to Genesis for getting everything right. A spectacular game for a 16 bit system.

@@Random-yh9tj I only ever saw the Single Player sit- down Deluxe that looked like an F1 car. Really cool! Then when DaytonaUSA came out, that's the first time I saw a Twin Seat setup. Later on I found out there was the VR TwinSeat which is what I have. Nothing like seeing 8 Daytonas linked. Seeing 8player VR would have been amazing!
In mame emulation unfortunately, we have speed frame per second issues . I am really confused concerning the original machine's fps is it 30, 45, or 60 fps . Why is it so jittery and slow on mame ? Moreover the f1 polygon wheels on mame are missing a feature called diffuse lightening which gives the game a different look and feel. Hope this gets support in the future.
So, the framerate (to me) looks like it's technically 60fps (because the background image moves smoothly in turns and the speed of the laptime updates) but the polygon graphics themselves update at 30 fps. But I just say 30 because 95% of what matters is at that speed. The Switch Version runs everything at 60fps. That's a really nice version of it. I haven't played the MAME version.
Just keep an eye on eBay. That's where I got this. The guy selling it was moving and because it's such a heavy and space hogging machine, he had to sell it. As the time for the move got closer, his price dropped to a level that couldn't be passed up. So I got an insane deal on it. That's the thing with some of these arcades. The size, weight, shipping and all that becomes an issue, so some people are getting rid of them out of necessity, and potential buyers don't live close enough to pick it up. Buying from a seller who's business is selling arcade probably won't give you the best deal. Finding a private owner who HAS to sell is where it's at.

great gameplay! a different view for each lap! and yes.. the "expert" track is easier than the medium track.
Awesone nice movie you play very good and the real arcade version was wonderfull nice and better to MAME or other emulator
Also, if you win two races in a row, the ending is a bit shorter....

MAME even today does not display the hat that clear in the award sequence. So...
Also I think MAME has issues with the camera jittering up and down whenever it shouldn’t
