Their first album (from which this track derives) was rather constant in my home when it was released and my son was a year old. He loved it and would bounce up and down to its rhythms.
Recently I reintroduced him to it (he’s now a sophomore in college with extraordinarily eclectic musical tastes.) I told him how much he liked it back then. He said he understands why, and he’s added tracks to his playlist.

This is a blast from the past. I recall some other good ones off this album too. Definately nailed it with the David Byrne Vocals and the Peter Hook bass. The guitar and drums from this track and their jangly loose-ness give me Flying Nun vibes like "Vehicle" era The Clean. Immediately thought of "Big Cat" when listening to the faster parts.

Good quote, Jon, hadn't heard that in yonks. The sleeve on the wall reminded me of a piece of pure pop which Andy may not know - "Wake Up Boo!" (which someone really ought to rerecord as "Wake Up Minsc!").
Good song, good analysis. Gouranga Gouranga, yes I'll be happy when you've been arrested for defacing the bridge.
Red Hook, Brooklyn may be best known as the birthplace of Crazy Joe Gallo, inexplicably whitewashed by Dylan in "Joey".

Charlie had a teenage daughter he thought of as a little girl
But one day he came home
His little girl had grown-up news to tell, well
"Oh, Daddy," she cried ("Oh, Daddy," she cried)
"Oh, Daddy, I tried" ("Oh, Daddy, I tried")
But on the hayride, how I fell
That was a hayride bound for Hell

Enjoyed this track! I’m familiar with Upon this Tidal Wave and Satan Said Dance two quirky songs that are right up my alley . Should dig deeper.

I'm surprised, its not bad actually, might have to listen to a couple of their other tunes. The guitars were getting towards a Wedding Present type sound and speed for a bit, but like you said it was enjoyable. Cheers guys.

Quality first album but never quite hit the same heights again, apart from Satan Said Dance on the second album, but the later stuff is still worth a listen

Who can help but feel for Cousin Casio but he wins everyone over eventually. Jon agree Bryne sounding Hooky galloping musical shepherds pie. More Brotherhood- Technique bass, but who cares, Hooky bass lines are chicken soup to me they heal my soul. Great choice Andy!

The vocals take the untutored approach to its outer limits. I'm not sure whether to admire the nerve or put the ear defenders on. It makes Stephen Malkmus sound like Luciano Pavarotti. Otherwise I enjoyed the music for the all the reasons given.
