Southern California has multiple regional airports: Long Beach, Ontario, Burbank.
Phoenix has Mesa Gateway.

Obviously there are issues with regional airports. Less connections, higher price, less food options. So you need to weigh your options.

Up side is no 15min+ walk to the gate or going into wrong terminal usually for me is roads are quieter to get to airport saving time and stress

Great tip no doubt but regionals obviously don’t have as many flights as the mega-airports which can result in a more expensive ticket. And with fewer flights, if yours gets cancelled the airline may not have any immediate rebooking options. Regionals may also route you to odd connections in the opposite direction of your final destination 😆 adding to your total time of travel.
