The best Americanism IMHO is "horseback riding". It's sort of nice that our transatlantic cousins want to be precise, but where or when have you seen anyone doing horseFRONT riding? And if an American visits India do they ask their hosts if they can go elephantback riding?

Why do Americans do this? We call it ketchup in Britain! Tomato sauce is what goes in pasta for example.... ketchup is ketchup.... same as over the pond.... You were right about pissed, we would just say pissed off for angry. Pavement also correct, but the tomato sauce thing made me.... pissed as you'd say.

Ah yes ... my first year in America was full of these confusions! Plus: try asking for an "Aerial" for your TV (Yeah, I know it's all Cable/Internet these days!) instead of an "antenna". Or "braces" to hold your trousers up. Coz "braces" make your teeth straight and "trousers" are "pants" ... BUT "pants" are "undies"!!!

I'm Irish & I must defend all my English friends. Everyone in the UK would know what ketchup means. Also, in ref. to pissed, it depends on the tone of voice & the situation ie. If someone is: drunk = They're pissed. Angry = They're pissed. I think you need to speak to more English people to understand how the type of English that is used in The UK which is different then the USA

Not really sorry to see the Travellers checks leave. they were expensive and even if you brought some back and wanted to cash them in...I don't think you got your fees back. Put pictures of your credit cards front and back. in your phone.. I believe stores will accept that for payment and the phone is password protected so the average thief would not be able to get in. Also arrange with your carrier to use the phone in the countries you are visiting just for the duration of your trip.. should not be too expensive.
