This legitimately taught me things about the book. Kudos!
I cant wait to read it now!!!
“so whats the meaning of life?" "I've no idea after this ride." lol
they made it look so easy!
I honestly admire people that go on roller coasters like nothing
It's nothing, really. We just find them to be fun and thrilling.
Andrea Quintanilla it's thrilling and besides it's an escape from reality
Me on Kingda ka
Oh, it's never *ever* "like nothing." We coaster freaks tell ourselves repeatedly, "This adrenaline response is not fear -- it's excitement. Once I'm over the first drop, I'll be fine."
@@Gameboss49 Me on Millennium Force. The special runs after regular close are not to be missed. It's fantastic to watch the stars emerge as you climb above the lights. Also, the mosquitos will have packed it in for the night, if you go in the fall.
Andrew is like, the calmest person I've seen on a rollercoaster.
I was fearing for their glasses tho
How did they not fall off? I was 99% sure they would.
+Elijahchu I wear my glasses on Rollercoasters and I still don't know how they don't fall off
+Meyer Lanksy (DerlerksInTheTerdis) Seems pretty straightforward. The glasses are pulled against the face.
+Rebecca Chen Greenscreen?
+l0kidaf00l That was definitely not greenscreen.
Andrew did a great job on the roller coaster despite being terrified of them. I don't think I could've managed it; I hate roller coasters too...
+Mikhail Kalashnikov pretty sure that part was for the audience.
How can you hate roller coasters? It's like the best thing ever
Wouter Planet exactly
Wouter Planet IKR!
That roller coaster looks pretty exhilarating not gonna lie
I've been on it about twenty times.
+kevythekevlar
It is.
+kevythekevlar I've been on it alot, including right at the beginning of a thunder storm, and it is awesome
I've been to all of the 6 Flag parks (and most other major parks in the US) and Nitro is still one of my favorites. I still prefer El Toro in that park (if only for the shock of the ferocity of a hybrid wood coaster) but Nitro is a beauty.
lol you have no idea
Moby Dick in four words: Have harpoon, will travel.
+Timothy Graham Reads the card of a man...
This was a good idea. Bravo Colbert!
This professor's got balls!
Apart from the basic plot and ideas about its meaning, Moby Dick is also beautifully written.
Haha, if you leave out the "also", the sentence's meaning completely changes
2:08 It's not a vertical drop 😂😂 It's only 68 degrees
3rd most terrifying roller coaster ON EARTH
Vertical drop doesn’t mean straight down
Branflakes1522 the disability is strong with you
@@Branflakes1522 or it does too, though
+Flakes x 73 Yes it does...
“What is the meaning of life?”
“I don’t know, after this ride.”
“What is the meaning of life?”
“I have no idea after this ride”
Now that is a guest with a remarkably good sense of humor! Hates roller coasters, is terrified of them, and yet agrees to summarize a classic novel he is an expert regarding in ~2.5 minutes while riding one. Many kudos to that man, whatever his name was!
Another brilliant late night talk show segment!
One of the best ways, that I've seen, to break the monotony of a book review.
*break
Thank you Dana Carvey Show for making this possible.
Maybe one of the best English literature lessons I have ever witnessed.
This is awesome... In The Name Of Eru-Iluvatar.
What's that?
IIClueless_KII use google... you're literally on the internet.
+7searchful I like to call him 'Ea'(w/ the two dot accent over the "a")
+7searchful I know, but I wanted to ask anyways.
Stephen Colbert is an American treasure! LMAO!
I hated the scene where Quequeg ran off into the woods and was eaten by an aligator before Scully could save him. :'(
+WingedSoda When the leash snapped back empty it was so sad. :(
+WingedSoda LOL spoiler alert much? I might read this
+Nathaniel Xu
1) I was referring to an episode of the X-Files. The dog was named after the character in the book.
2) You can not expect people to give a spoiler warning to a piece of classic literature. especially under a video that's all about it.
Yeah, that did not happen. There are no alligators in Moby Dick.
Or,people named Scully. Oh, wait, this was an inside X-file fan joke. Forget I said anything
The Late Show seems to be turning into a way more sponsored version of all of the other talk shows combined. What went from one ad about a movie became embedded in another ad about an amusement park talking about the ad about the movie while experiencing the ad about the amusement park.
+IntelligentReality The ads are taking over.
You're joking right? Lol. All of the late shows have ads in their own way. At least this one talks about real things and isn't always talking about famous peoples kids and making corny jokes like jimmy.
+IntelligentReality Who fucking cares? This was super entertaining and original. I feel like people hate things just because they're adds. All you're doing is making yourself unhappy automatically.
Adam Borison I did not imply a positive or negative feeling in the comment, I simply stated a fact.
Good point.
No one forced me to read Moby Dick. This is a brilliant way to interview people.
Best English class ever!
Dude looks chill as fuck for someone who's terrified of rollercoasters.
Genius idea Colbert! This was fun to watch
I love it when he demands to be let out at the end.
He did such an amazing job!!
Moby DIck is a metaphor for mankind's quest to finally finish reading Moby Dick.
This is the best thing ever.
"Out pleeease" omg so cute
haha, as someone who is _not_ a professor and has voluntarily read the book, I enjoyed this immensely ^_^ your lecturer makes me want to reread it and is too cool for having been able to explain the themes, despite not being a roller coaster person xD
The Professor took this extremely well! Not as scared as Kevin Hart!
Having a intelligent conversation might actually help overcome the fear of this terrifying roller coaster! Instead of just screaming :)
"3rd most Terrifying coaster on Earth"
Shambhala, Helix, The Voyage, El Toro, Outlaw Run, Boulder Dash, Maverick, SkyRush, and Fury 325 all crap on Nitro. And that's just a sample. I can list a whole lot more if need be.
gp bro chill out lol
mdubs54 Gp? Not to be rude, but I'm anything but gp lol. Sorry if I came out as angry. I was in a bit of a bad time in life when I posted that.
+Guy_With_A_Stick of course you arent gp lmao whats your home park
mdubs54 Six Flags Great America. Opens in 19(or 18, depending on timezone) days. Yours?
+Guy_With_A_Stick No way dude i live in west chicago/carol stream about an hour out from SFGAm. Ive been counting since like 114 in my school planner lol the hype right now.
beautiful, just beautiful
This was awesome!
You two handled that like pros ^^ Hurray !!!!!
B&M Hyper, Swiss engineering
Nitro was rated the 5th best steel coaster in the world when this video came out, not the 3rd.
so perfectly reminiscent of the calvin and hobbes wagon strips. love it!
Ha :) nice reference
This is brilliant.
I love this video (and Moby Dick) so much
Classic B&M hyper so nice
Douglas Adams KNOWS the meaning of life.
awesome!!
Wow, that was so cool 😊
I think being on rollercoasters is the best way to have a conversation
Conan is normally the master of remotes, but Stephen's got this one in the Moby Dickbag.
When he gets the crazy eyes for a second at 2:21 😂😜
Interviewing during the crazy stuff made me think of Caesar Flickerman.
“230 foot fertical drop”
Uhhh its not either of those things
I like how Stephen has really various guests of all expertise, fame etc.
"Third most terrifying roller coaster on Earth" Where did they get that from? As a coaster enthusiast Nitro probably wouldn't even make the top 20.
The humanities strike back. More please!
super silly, I liked it! :)
Love this!, How about War and Peace, Stephan?
I love how there’s a much smaller more approachable coaster directly in front of nitro 😂😂😂
that discussion is too deep to be having on a rollercoaster ride lol
Wow, he did a great job!
he did a similar sketch on the dana carvey show! good to see it back in a new way hahaha
This is a pretty hilarious idea.
This is my favorite roller coaster what a coincidence
Nitro is my absolute favorite coaster at SFGA
They are like 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 😂
Hey that’s nitro at six flags great adventure in New Jersey! What was Stephen doing there!
Can guarantee neither of them remembered one word that was spoken on that ride.
The same coaster is at Kings Island and is called The Diamondback
WHOABUBBAvideos they are far from the same ride my friend
Cliff Notes on Rollercoasters - I think you got something stevie ol boy
Oh I remember riding nitro many times ...it's actually my favorite roller coaster ... It's really enjoyable the whole time too not like other ones were it's only one drop and that's it ...
Holy shit this was brilliant! Haha I love it.
Holy shit this was the best segment ever.
This was hilarious
Hmm, Now try it on El Toro 🤣🤣🤣
Coaster Fanatic there is probably a reason they didn’t
From the thumbnail I thought he was interviewing François Hollande.
I felt that. Big breath.
4:22 HAHAH
I like how off-guard they are when the restraints didn't release yet.
My sister and I got it from the library and tried to watch it, gave up after thirty minutes.
Dammit!
Now I have to read Moby Dick.
this is nitro. I love that ride.
Imagine getting on a rollercoaster and just seeing a random celebrity go on in front of u filming the entire ride
Greatest show ever.
Just in case you didn't get it the first time.
Reminds me of brain rush
Fucking Awesome... Great segment
I love how this bit is a slight on US network TV audiences. "Hey guys I want to talk about Moby Dick for five minutes without any theatrics.....hahaha I almost said it without laughing. Our audience has the attention span of a goldfish."
Six flags lol!!! It was a lot of fun..batman is my favorite ride
ladi hadek well then I got good news for you, the ride has been cloned at nearly every other six flags park
Rollercoaster interview lol
Man, that guy is a badass.
Nitro is one of the best roller coasters around.
BTW the heat is 230'; the drop is 215' It's got a rattle with not the best layout but at least it's not trimmed to death. Should have ridden Nitro in the back row. Better yet: El Toro in one of the back 3 rows (back car) It's the best roller coaster at any 6 flags park. Still, the interviewees were pretty stoic, especially if they don't usually ride coasters.
Great to see Jersey getting some love Nitro is awesome
Epic way to tell about a whale. #productplacementforeva
This is the nitro ride in six flags at New Jersey
IvanPlaysGames *great adventure, and no shit sherlock
42
+Harry BuddhaPalm
34 in metric...
...is the meaning of life.
this coaster is so mild
Friends
I love myself a good b&m hyper
