I have just bought the new X5 to replace my X4. Massive improvement in the speaker recesses. Also a flat spot for comms on the outside of the helmet. A space in the curtain for wires too. I had to go up a size for a perfect fit from L to XL. I haven't ridden in it yet, but it feels glorious. Mine came with a pinlock fitted, too.
Definitely think it was a mistake getting rid of the eyebrow vents ♨️, they’re perfect for the hot 🥵 summer months. The purpose for closing any vent is during very cold 🥶 winter riding. 🤙🏻
Is it just me or does the front edge of peak look distorted at 19:30 ?.. even in relation to it's own rear edge ? - It doesn't seem to be adjusted differently at either side and the helmet itself appears to be pretty straight-on to the camera, so if adjusting the peak position on the move can produce this type of effect on the peak itself surely that will result in a corresponding dramatic (and negative..) affect on the helmet's aerodynamics and balance ?..
I absolutely love my XD-4 in the winter months on the GSA to keep the sun out of my eyes. I really don’t like a tinted screen. In warmer months, I wear a Corsair X. Arai fits my head better than any other helmet but I do like the Neotec for a modular.
It looks like a decent upgrade to the XD-4. The only issue to me is the fact it's 800€ in EU. I think that's a tough price even for Arai standards. There is a lot of competition in this market, even for 22-06, and even cheaper helmets will offer a good safety level at this point, with most of them also having dropdown sunvisors or a transition shield. I really can't see this helmet get much interest, at least in my country Italy. Just for the fact alone that it doesn't have the dropdown sunvisor, which most riders here regard as a necessary feature for an ADV helmet.
The fact that Aria refuse to "add comms" is a good thing, whenever a helmet manufacturer has slots for rooms it's always some off brand thing you never heard of or Sena. Arai makes no concession for any brand. I
@flippy5118 among premium helmets it is. Shoei, in bed with Sena, Schuberth as well. Not many quality adventure helmet manufacturers left by then. What's left? Klim and Bell?
@@SiopaoSauc3 yes, because Sena spends all their time giving helmets manufacturers kickbacks for supporting their and only their stuff. Which is worse than Cardo.
To remove the peak and visor no tools are needed. The screw is to remove the the peak and reattach the plate to run the helmet without the peak. Two simple buttons and the peak and visor are removed in seconds with no tools
Have a few Shoei''s and Arai's, the XD-4 (us version) is the best helmet have even worn although its not perfect its very close. Was wondering if they ever do an XD-5 and now they have. Watching and waiting on more reviews and colors. Thanks for review!
Any news on Arai making a transition visor for the X5, like the one that comes with the Krios? Tinted ones don’t help much, since they are useless without sunlight and it’s a pain riding with both visors with you..
I loved my X-4, sadly now retired after 5 years and many thousands of miles and I have to say I was one of the few who found getting it on a real pain, having big ears may have played a part in this, and the biggest reason I choose not to go with one again. It would be the only complaint I have of it and if Arai have alleviated this with the new X-5 I can see me trying one out.
Hi Chris, great video, thank you. You said at 14:37 "On the road an adventure helmet is less than ideal" and few seconds later you point out the possible neck strain. Is this only/mainly because of the peak or would this also be an issue without the peak, given the helmet is not as round as e.g. the Quantic? I like the idea of having a bigger FOV on an ADV Helmet in comparison with the Quantic and since I am just starting I will be doing 100% upright position road riding, probably on a mid GS or some oder mid capacity road-focused ADV bike.
It is mostly the peak tbh. The field of view and airflow offered by an adventure helmet are big advantages in themselves, the peak is also only an issue really if you're consistently riding at motorway speeds.
There is definitely three detents for the visor. Yours is not installed correctly. The store where i bought it made the same mistake. The brass lug must be in the provided slots for the mechanism to work. It does not move at any speed if installed correctly
Great review..i will look forward to trying one on!. On the Arai website (and the Arai display stand at the NEC) there's some tinted visors available in blue/green tints etc...do you stock these Chris? Cheers Steve
I wish you would review the Airoh Commander. Simply the best helmet I have encountered - and even paid to have shipped from Germany to USA. I believe the Airoh Commander embraces all the features your customers desire.
Wearing prescription glasses and having bright eyes, the absence of an internal sunscreen eliminates this helmet directly. I like the brand but there are other good brands out there at interesting prices too!
I’m sure Arai are the best in moto racing but on road bikes shoei in my opinion are safe because there shell spreads the impact but Arai doesn’t give way so you rely on the EPS and that to me is not good enough?
Sorry to say but after nearly a month of commuting in my new X5 I'm returning it and am very disappointed. This review doesn't do justice to the X5. It's really not as good as the XD4.
this dude is the best presenter in all the Moto industry. next level of details
I have my third Arai Tour X4 and I don‘t want anything else on my head anymore. Super helmet!!!
First time watching your channel, this chap is a great presenter, really informative and very very balanced…excellent video..
Another phenomenal product review! I remain impressed with his knowledge of a wide variety of motorcycle kit!
After 3 years using and loving my Tour X4, the only helmet I’m tempted to buy is the X5.
I have just bought the new X5 to replace my X4.

I love my tour X4 after 3 years of use, hope the 5 is as comfy and good.
Best review on UA-cam. Most critical.
My takeaway, I’ll keep my Hornet and wait for the Shoei Hornet 3.

Can you please make review on airbags? The ones you wear under the jacket and also the ones you wear on a jacket. Thanks

I've always regretted it whenever I bought a helmet that wasn't an Arai.

Do you know if shoei is going to introduce a new version of Hornet according to the new 22.06 standard? In 2024?
Dude nice hat

Well, it may be that we are simply wrong on this. Or perhaps you really do have big ears! CP.
Just got a new x5 Stateside, they fixed the shield it goes all the way up on mine....peace...nice hat btw.....

Hi. As there are lots of promotions for the X4, what’s your opinion about the opportunity of buying it vs the new X5?

Still loving my Glamster.. Maybe try Arai next time.

What happens with these helmets on a naked bike at 100mph or over. Is it horrible?

Whats worse with the X5 exactly?
