- Welcome to my Winter/Spring 2021 Newsletter!
While there have been many cancelations, some projects have managed to move forward and I'm grateful for every performance that I've been able to sing. It's been the season of La traviata, and after having sung it at the Met, Madrid, Barcelona, and Rome, I'm now recording it here in Dresden, for CD release on Pentatone.
Following this recording project, there are concerts scheduled in Europe in April: A bel canto concert of arias and duets with the Santa Cecilia in Rome, and a solo aria concert with the Nachtigall Artists in Prague.
The film version of La traviata, directed by Mario Martone, will be broadcast on April 9th on Rai3 at 21:30, European time.
→ REFLECTIONS:
These 12 months since my last "normal" performance have been some of the hardest of my life and career, and I'm still just getting by, day by day. Even though I have been continuing to sing throughout the pandemic, there have been tons of cancellations and rescheduled or reimagined events.
But I count my blessings every day that I can bring even a little bit of music into the lives of others via web/stream, and with every virtual project that we complete, I miss our live audiences more and more!
Let's continue to inspire one another, and please know that I am so grateful for each and every one of you and your support. It has been the brightest part of this dark time. Thank you!

I think La Traviata was rather apropos for the time of Covid! A heroine dying from a disease that prevents her from being able to breathe and thus dying due to that illness probably resonated with many people.
I’d love to see that movie and can’t wait. :)

Lisette, so lovely to see you again (on screen at least). I realize that certain aspects of the role of Violetta hit somewhat close to home these days, but I'm sure you embrace the opportunity to polish and perfect the details (as if you need me to give you advice!). Not having had a voice lesson myself for so long, I'm going to have to study some of your videos on technique which I know I will benefit from. It's so exciting to learn about your upcoming recording and film of 'Traviata', especially as I have been a fan of Lester Lynch for so many years, going back to when he was with the New York City Opera, and of Roberto Frontali for even longer. Dear Lisette, have you deleted the five performances of "Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail" at the Wiener Staatsoper in October 2020 from your memory? As Konstanze you were the best singer in this Hans Neufeld-production, highly appreciated also by the critics. I have been there and also in the introductory matinee. Since then you are one of my favourite singers and I'm permanently in search of your other performances (operas and recitals), e.g. I'm thrilled by your "Manon" at the Met. Greetings from Vienna, Austria.
OMG! You're totally right, I did sing that, too, didn't I? I'm so sorry! And you know it probably didn't enter my mind because it actually felt "normal!" I mean, we had an audience, there was no social distancing on stage, no masks...and it felt different from every other Corona project! I'm so sorry I didn't mention it as a role I had done! But also...that contract was one of the lucky ones that did not get canceled that year. It had been in my calendar for a couple of years and was SO EXCITED to debut in Vienna! It was one of the last things before the 2nd shut down. :(
Thanks for the quick reply, your apologies are welcome but of course not necessary..... By the way, was the video filmed in the hotel Innside by Meliá? The interior design reminded me a lot on my several stays with my family there, in the good old times when we could travel without any restrictions ... Nevertheless have a successful time in Dresden, I'm already keen on getting this CD recording of La Traviata!
