Stay hansdome!
Would you do Irish folk songs? If so, please consider drunken sailor and maybe shores of botany bay by the Irish rovers
PLEASE COVER "GENERAL TAYLOR" BY GREAT BIG SEA
Also check our RIVER DRIVER (by great big sea)
suggestion: DO MORE. PLEASE. YOU'RE AMAZING
Man, I wish I had your chops. Anyone who has to go out of their way to attempt to find flaws in someone else's work just to make themselves feel better isn't worth your time. Brilliant stuff!
This brings me back to the good old days on the "Jackdaw"
Ubisoft needs to remaster black flag just to have this man sing the shanties
those were good days captain. Yarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ☠
Aaah yes, the jackdaw. A fine ship, fast, nimble and could sting very evil. I miss that lady
Every last scrap of duck on the wind!!
"CAP'NS IN THE WATER!" - That one Crewman.
Plot twist: Colm has two identical brothers and all three of them are fabulous at singing, but one harbours a dark secret...
...an addiction for obscure instruments!
*Distant tagelharpa intensifies*
That was my absolute first impression from the split screen depending on the sound his face either looks very deep or very light I just love it not to mention he's adorable 💝✌️
Clones :)
That's the only reasonable explanation!
@@ColmRMcGuinness I love the intensifies memes
Everytime Colm uploads a sea shanty I find myself having a new favorite shanty
You should listen to Sean Deager. He is an actual shantyman. He has a lot of them, and actually explains their history and meaning.
Same.
Same.
Saaaame, omg. I keep sending my boyfriend links because the covers make me so excited, conveniently forgetting that it was my boyfriend who told me about Colm in the first place. 😂
I am a former American soldier. I want to personally attest to the odd, but extremely effective moral boost that singing brings. I can only imagine how much more amplified this effect would be, in the naval sector during the days of old. Excellent work!
It wasn’t just for morale, songs were used for timing synchronization amongst the crew. That’s also why armies would have drummers on the field, to keep timing for the troops. It’s also why soldiers are made to belt out during marching orders.
Sailor here. Yep, they're for synchronizing effort. Most shanties are either "hauling" or "capstan". Shanties like Roll Boys and Drunkin' Sailor are haulers used to aid in collective pulling events like raising sail, hauling in jackstays, or straining bow, stern, and spring lines. Randy Dandy-O is a capstan shanty used for an event that requires a constant effort like weighing anchor where the anchor chain in on a capstan.
It's why they still use cadence to keep soldiers marching.
Psh. "Former soldier". Ain't no damn "former". You're STILL a soldier. Thats coming from a Marine! Get me?
@@joaquinmccurty4762 you are of course correct, Devil Dog. I word it this way only because I was only in for 13 years, so I can't say I'm retired... but yes, you are 100% correct. Thanks for saying so.
Sally Brown, she's the gal for me boys!
Roll Boys! Roll boys roll!
Sally Brown she's the gal for me, boys!
Way high, Miss Sally Brown
It's down to Trinidad to see Sally Brown boys!
Roll Boys! Roll boys roll!

She's LOVELY on the foreyard, an' she's lovely down BELOW boys!
Roll Boys! Roll boys roll!
She's lovely 'cause she loves me, that's all I WANT TO know boys!

Fourty fathoms or more below boys!

Roll Boys! Roll boys roll!
Sally Brown she's the gal for me, boys!
Way high, Miss Sally Brown
Thank you so much!!!!
Finally, someone solos a song specifically made for a crew of 10+.
I'm not disappointed.
Incredible. As a former sailor myself ( RCN ) there is something almost mystical in how you present this song. Listening to it I can almost taste the salt on my lips and feel 'er heeliin over with the roll.
Bravo Zulu on your retirement, mate. Reserve duty here myself, RCN.
@@erycdamaso_613 Thanks man. I still miss those days. ( sniff )..
I get that, mate. I'm thinking about putting my papers within the next few years too. I know I'll miss it, though
Those low notes have torque.
Never have I agreed so much with a sentance that makes so little sense.
Man's got a winch for a bass tone.
I'll buy your shanty album when you release it.
Straight facts
@@nicmarchand2420 Thanks so much, mate! She's almost done!
@@ColmRMcGuinness Awesome! I want one too!
I’m in too
On spotify?
SOMEONE GET THIS DUDE FAMOUS, so damn underated and it disappointing tbh ... He deserves much more 😆
I just discovered you today, and literally the first thing I did was whip off my headphones, wilde-haired and eyed, and shoved them at my wife all, "YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS GUY'S VOICE OH MY GOD"
That bass is absolutely insane omg
wish my voice is deeper
Oh,aye, and play it with earphones or a good bass playing system in your car. His bass voice will roll down to your bones!
Are there videos of him just doing the base. It sounds audio aided
@@kingofkrakatoa I've never heard a voice like that. I want to know too
recommendation: A song not traditionally sung low, but could sound REALLY good low, Wayfaring Stranger, most known for being featured in 1917
Please.
I heard one fellow sing it low once at a bar, never got his name, and wish I had recorded it. Sounds amazing.
I'll second that. But paul robeson, tennessee ernie ford, and johnny cash all sang it, so I wouldn't say that it's not traditionally sung low.
Imagine your flatmate listening you singing and playing all day long! How lucky! 😻
And how considerate I am to not record in the evening. #BestHouseMate
@@ColmRMcGuinness I feel like I could use some violin lullabies tho 😂😂😂
In less than 2 minutes you changed my day, your voice is amazing, incredible bass, harmony and arrangement for each voice, and the different intonation in some frases really make it stand out. Thank you again.
Thanks so much! Happy to help!
I definitely try to leave a fair amount of tonal difference between all 3 sections, while still sounding like 'me'.
@@ColmRMcGuinness How do you do your bass? Is it all chest voice or subharmonics?
Kratos at some point, probably: Row boi, row!
This guy's bass notes could push a tank over. This guy has bass like a supernova.
I have such an extensive playlist of your shanties for my pirate DnD campaign, but this one is the one my players legit took out their RP and sang along for the entire thing.
Needless to say, Inspiration for everyone.
Ahhhhh this is dope! Would love to do a pirate one shot!
@@ColmRMcGuinness Plan: Tweet that to Matt Mercer and the guys from Sea of Thieves (or any pirate related media, really) and play a Bard. Make my dreams come true! :D
I never thought I'd have to do this, but I'm going to have to make a Colm McGuinness Sea Shanty playlist just so I don't have to keep a dozen tabs open just to play all of the songs. Loving these sweet harmonies! Also, you look mighty fine today!
Fucking ditto
@@Tufenkian777 wot
Already made mine but had to expand to 2 list now. Sea shanty colm and mcguinness reins lists. Enjoy the high seas of shantyville.
Handsome, even.
Jesus christ. Everytime I come back to this channel, I forget just how DEEP his voice can go. Was he born with it or did he train himself to go that deep?
He's practically smiling while singing he lives for his talent
I love it.
Didn't know this one! But I enjoyed it so much!! Never stop doing sea shanty, NEVER!
This is incredible wo a h-- Your range is amazing and your voice could make a telephone book reading sound enthralling 🙏
Any one else want to play assassin‘s creed black flag right now
I still play it all the time, it's my favorite Assassin's Creed
Yea
@@OdysseyFox Black Flag is the only game I have ever 100% completed EVERYTHING in, it and AC2 are my favorite games of all time.
@@danwarren5037 AC4 and Unity are my two favorites, but honestly I'd have to say Valhalla is a close second, it's really fun and the story is great
@@OdysseyFox Yeah, I'm still playing through Valhalla and really enjoy it. I also like origins. For some reason I didn't really like Odyssey though, not sure why. Valhalla is great so far though.
This was the first shanty I ever learned, and the one I taught all the kids in band back in high school. Good times on the bus.
This is so contagious, especially for us who played all AC games. Well done Sir!
Boy! You absolutely need to sing acapella more! Your voice is just INCREDIBLE! Thank you so so much for making me enjoy a shanty so much! Sending you all the love! Stay safe and have a great rest of the week!
That bass is so deep. The Kraken woke up to sing along. I hope it wants to sing along....
"Sally Brown she likes a good scrumpy. Way hay, we roll and goooO! Yeah she likes a bit of the rumpy pumpy. Way hay we roll and gooO!" is from a Droughnauts song
I searched up and down for this guy doing a rendition of “Shallow Brown”. It seems like he gravitates towards the more melodic shanties and Shallow Brown is melancholically melodic. I would literally commission him to do it. If you’re reading this Colm, that’s a genuine offer.
Shallow Brown?
@@Just_Call_Me_Tim it’s from Rogue, it’s one of my favorites. Sean Dagher does a beautiful rendition. I think @Colm Mcguinness Music would kill it.
Your smile is so incredibly infectious.
And this cover is PHENOMENAL!!!
DUDE I ALWAYS WANTED A ROLL BOYS ROLL COVER LIKE U DID. YOU MADE A MSTERPIECE!
I remember when my SO played through this game *constantly* This is one of the shanties that I would find myself humming and so confused where I knew it from! There are one or two more--but I wouldn't know them by name.
wish the navies of the world still used these working songs.
Instant favorite and instant subscription.
Those low notes.... they scratch an itch in my soul.
I feel like I could honestly listen to this on repeat 24/7, and never tire of it. Love your voice!
Wait a great voice he's got! I love it!!!
Is this what fuels legends at the sea?
It's crazy that since playing black flag for the first time all those years ago would kickstart all the sea shanty popularity
If you did a cover of Loreena mcKennits the wind that shakes the barley. It would be epic.
Each of your songs is like a barrel of joy that goes straight to the heart!
Never heard this one before, but I love it! The harmonies just slay me every time! Love the song, love the energy, and love the tangerine shirt! Keep'em coming!
Wow! You are amazing! Usually I'm a little more articulate but your presentation is so clean and strong, I'm just hitting repeat over and over. Thank you!
Brings me back to the good times on the sea
Your range is so amazing dude
I'm so old, I know these songs from the first time around. You young folk are doing a fine job. Keep singing.
This song is one giant innuendo.
Glad someone caught it lol
Well, duh. They’re men!
Thank you for these sea shanties that allow me to feel like my soul is in the right place at least for a little while
Kratos: PADDLE FASTER BOY!!! I HEAR COLM McGUINNESS's!!!
You can just see it in his eyes and the constant grinn on his face that this man is enjoying making these :D
ugh my god that bass makes my whole body tingle
I saw a few days ago that you had covers of sea shanty's from Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag and I had to listen to them, I had just gotten Assassins Creed 4 and love it!
It's always fascinating how different his biceps acts in the different voices.
Love your good work and please keep it on!
I love that this song is just one big euphemism
First time I ever paid attention to the lyrics. I choked on my coffee. 10/10, would choke on my coffee again.
Your voice is like a big hug that's lifting my spirit every morning on my way to work 😊 thank you for this beautiful gift
Ok no joke, I hated this shanty in Black flag, but now you put bass in it and just POP!!! I could listen to an Extended play of this for like 10 hours easily as I do my own work. Fair play to ya man!
I found alot of the shanties in black flag felt dissonant or off in one way or another. Colm fixes that easily.
Well, in fairness, it kind of adds to that realism. I know that is a lofty thing to say about Assassin's Creed. Yet you do not expect every sailor to be able to hold a tune perfectly. It adds in that part that the crew are all unique characters and they sing because it passes the time and also builds friendship among the crew. Though bonus points for the guy who can play a fiddle or any instrument.
You should collaborate with Sean Deager, I think he did the shanties for AC 3 and 4
Sean is the man! I'd be so down to do anything with him or Nils Brown!
Nic baseline is stunningly hearty! I want to know know how his range is so diverse!
More than likely uses some kind of machine. If you think his range is au naturale it is no single person had a range that big. Now he very likely is a baritone with an impressive range. He just does some post singing editing and boom another octive lower. I over simplify but that's basically it.
haha! brings me back to my time on ship when we passed through a storm in the Pacific!
this is the most amazing vocal range ive ever heard, great job!
I love this so much, really brings back nostalgic memories
Clicked on this video without knowing the song, or so I thought, now im 2 glasses on rum down and on a flash back trip to Assassin's creed
I absolutely love this. Please keep doing them. I like each one better than the last.
Cheers, mate!
That sounds much better than the Original version . It has more sound! Sounds more beautiful.
wow, this deep voice. Goosebumps every time again
Ah, the good old memories of ramming ships with recklessness as this song played in the background. I really hope AC4 gets a remastered version.
Ey men, the captain wans to heer some sea shantees.
Bring up em triplet prisoners.
here before he's super famous
Bold choice on the orange shirt my man! Great tune!
Oranges = no scurvy.
Cheers, mate!
This is the best song in the game for sure.
Aright that bass caught me way off guard
Oh you have no idea how happy I am. My absolute favorite!!!! Beautiful!

I need this on repeat.... like forever
Your voice gives me the happy tingles! I absolutely love it! Thank you
its been 7 years since ive heard this, and yet i can sing along like ive heard it yesterday.. that 100% achievement completion i got on my 360 have made its marks it seems
Damn that low register. Nuts dude!
My man! you are knocking these out of the park. I believe this is my favorite so far!
Wonderful performance and song, thanks for introducing me to another (new to me) shanty.
"my songs know what you did in the dark'' Fall out boy
I need your low technique. That bass is... otherworldly.
Thank you so much for making these sea shanties. I needed some good ones for a DnD game I'm running soon, and with it sounding like 3 distinct people it fits perfectly with a Trio of traveling bards. Their group name is the Golden Guinness and they are Colin, Bolin, and Golin (Human, Half-elf, and halfling).
As someone who sails in Trinidad and Barbados we sometimes blast your shanties well out at sea
I need an album! ♥️ I need to listen to some of these on repeat.
It strikes me just how many variations of this song's lyrics there actually are.
Here from #OrganicReactionz live stream. Thanks To MJK for always bringing you to the channel. 🔥👌💯. Keep em coming sooo talented
I love it so much that I don't even know how many times I've watched it
I love that bass
This is fantastic! Thank you for all of these sea shanties.
Thanks for listening! Not done yet, stay tuned!

I love listening to this is very pleasing to listening to
Do that shanty please..
"Leave her Johnny!! Leave her"
Oooh I love this shanty! Your rendition is so rich I love it.
Whoevers doing that bass is insane
Uhhh, who the fuck is Sally Brown???
