Oh man. A new Turrican game or even a remake would get me soo exited. Really enjoyed this video 😊
I absolutely love the franchise :) Thanks for watching and for leaving your feedback!
Cheers!
Very nice! I'm surprised the Amiga version had to be cut down, don't the Amiga and Mega Drive have a similar CPU? I never played Turrican 3, but the graphics look impressive!
They should have made a dedicated version of Turrican 3 for the Amiga 1200 / 4000 / CD32 that had a superior Motorola processor (68020) and advanced AGA chipset (better graphical capabilities, amongst other features).
Cheers, Phil! Have a great day!
Ah of course, AGA yes, that would have been awesome.
MD is a hardware tile based machine with lots of hardware sprites.
An A500 struggles in comparison with that as only 8 hardware sprites and some blitter objects are available. These machines are from different periods but the Amiga stands quiet well and many times can do better.
In games like this and space shooters the coder should use any available trick to compete with the MD.
Some games like Lionheart, Elfmania, Shadow of the beast and Agony are great examples of advanced coding.
Yeah! Lionheart is a masterpiece! And came from Thalion that was composed by top coders that had their roots on the Amiga demoscene! Incredible work! No doubt!
Amiga has the best sound chip. Paula was her name I believe yeah!
Oh, yeah :) Love that chip ;)
Cheers!
Have a great week!
Great video as always.
Loved my Amiga back in the day. Wish I had a friend who enjoyed gaming as much as I do.
Have a great weekend. Take care. Steven.
Those were amazing years! :)
Thanks for watching and for leaving your comment, Steven!
Have a great week! All the best!
Adoro a franquia Turrican!
Nice look back. It's a classic and it would be great to see a sequel for sure. I've only played the Mega Drive version.
All three versions are awesome, with the SNES game featuring that freeze beam instead of the grappling hook :)
Cheers, David!
I loved this game, i had it on the snes.
What a game :)
Cheers, Victor! Thanks for sharing!
Turrican is an amazing franchise. Played it on the SNES
Love it to this day :) And the soundtrack is short of amazing :)
Cheers, Hugo!
Have a great day!
Boas Pedro!
Bons velhos tempos!
Grande abraço! Obrigado por assistires e deixares o teu comentário!
The Amiga was made for turrican, the soundtracks could never be remastered to sound better than the originals. Unbelievable what chris pulled out of that 4 channel 8 bit sound chip. I used to record too cassette and play it on the hifi down stairs. Must of drove my parents mad ha.
My thoughts exactly! Chris is a God!! :)
My absolute favorite soundtrack ever is from Turrican 2 :) I'm always listening to it on my way to work :)
Cheers! Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts and memories!
Obrigado por assistires e deixares o teu precioso comentário!
Tem uma boa semana! Abraço!
Amiga 😎👍. Also love the c64 turricans
Indeed! Me too! :)
Thank you so much for watching, Allan!
Cheers!
It was a good port on the Amiga.
Indeed :) Love it!
Great video, and great channel. I remember this game well. I actually worked in one of the UK biggest duplication and testing facilities back in the day. Still a firm favourite of mine I'm still hopeful of a new Turrican as Factor 5 have recently reformed. It's a shame that the great Amiga versions fell a little short in favour of the consoles, but had some classic titles all it's own. The first Amiga version I played was the original Rainbow Arts one, then following it's success Turrican 2. We duplicated both these titles for Amiga on 3.5 floppy. A blast from the past for sure.
Hi, Paul! Thank you so much for sharing those memories! What an awesome piece of reading! Really enjoyed it!
Feel free to check my other Amiga related content! I've already covered Turrican 2, and its soundtrack is still my favorite after all these years!
Cheers! Have a great day!
It's a Pixel THING hey no problem. It was an amazing time, and even better now to see people like you keeping the interest in retro alive. I'll be sure to check out all the rest of your videos. I remember a few other games from that era such as Torvak the Warrior, Nebulous and Seven Gates of Jambala (not many remember that one) all of which we did demos for. Magazines such as The One Amiga and Amiga Power were regular clients and we I did manage to play a he'll of a lot for free (perks of th job). In that time we saw every iteration of the Amiga, the A1200 being my favourite. I also had a soft spot for the Atari STe which held it's own most of the time. We eventually made the move from floppy to cdrom almost overnight and did get my hands in the Amiga cd32, which was great, aside from the open/close issue. Keep up the good work😎
Thank you so much for that amazing insight, Paul! Truly appreciate it! And I'm willing to make something related to Seven Gates of Jambala :)
Cheers! Thanks again!
It's a Pixel THING that would be amazing.
If we had something similar to the MSU-1 for the Mega Drive, we could play the Mega Drive version (best graphics) with the Amiga soundtrack (best soundtrack). Best of both worlds!
Yeah, my thoughts exactly :)
Cheers! Thanks for watching!
I dont like turrican but my brother love it!,and today say that a great game.A classic Amiga game of the golden Age of Amiga 500.
My favorite is still the second one :)
Thank you so much for watching and for leaving your memories, Zazzo!
Cheers!
I dig the music more on the Commodore Amiga. Nice video!
Thanks for leaving your opinion, Niklas! Appreciate it!
Have a great day!
Cheers!
Thanks A Lot! Do you prefer LCD monitors over CRT's?
I'm gonna be honest: I absolutely love CRTs, but, and 'cause I live quite close to the sea, these simply wont last long. All my CRTs (monitors and TVs) died. I have a Philips connected to my IBM PS/1 486 that is "almost" dead. Gladly a friend donated, recently, a 17'' Samsung that I'll soon start using... have to try it first! Don't even know if it works ;)
Nice! Good Luck with your 17" Samsung! Looking forward for more movies!
The amiga really did have a great audio processor. and the games written for it really did have some stonking tunes.
I prefer the amiga version as this was the version I played back in the day.. AMAZING soundtrack...!
Indeed! What a soundtrack! Still prefer the one from Turrican 2, though :)
Cheers, Allan! Thanks for watching!
It's a Pixel THING 👍agree!! I played Turrican 2 on both the c64 and the Amiga and liked both .. a lot :-)
Play theese back in the day...but dont have them on the collection yet :(
Awesome stuff Pixel ,)
Thanks for sharing you opinion, Johnny! Appreciate it!
Have a great day!
It's really a pity that they didn't make an AGA version for the Amiga 1200/CD32, but still i prefer the Amiga version. Great soundtrack! And another great video! Thanks!
Indeed :(
Thank you so much for sharing your opinion! Appreciate it!
Have a great weekend!
An AGA version would have rocked! But Turrican 2 is still the best installment of the series, closely followed by T1. T3 was only mediocre compared to the others.
@@1001digital You are absoluteluy right.
Love it
An amazing game! No doubt ;)
Thanks for watching, John!
Have a great day!
It is pity about the megadrive colour loss when that version went to amiga. I reckon some (extra?) halfbrite mode could have been used for the fact that there is definitely some shading going on there in the colours of the running man and background. As (again) for those later versions, I really think an a1200 version doing that would have been cool (although, sure they'd likely look to aga instead). But the main thing would have been the inclusion of FPU optimisation, for which there are plenty of ways the maths could have been written to make use of that.
Doing that also would have helped be a sort of "pioneer" of coding techniques if the SNES version then got ported to the GBA which has plenty FPU capabilities with the ARM instruction set it had.
Maybe a game called "Curry Tan" can be released for a version that does all the above at lightning fast speed so it is brown-trousers time.
Indeed! By 1993, they should have aimed for a 1200/4000/cd32 release and take advantage of the AGA chipset.
Cheers! Thanks for your comment! :)
Have a great day!
I only never really got chance to play Turrican 3 back in the day. Loved the first two on my Amiga and still prefer thous versions. The Mega Drive version of Turrican 3 does look better than the Amiga version.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and memories, James!
Have a great week!
Cheers!
Great review gonna try the mega drive version never actually set down to play a turrican game
Please do! And enjoy the amazing soundtrack! :) I'm constantly listening to it! :)
Cheers, Eliran!
Have a great week!
OMG JUST PLAYED FIRST LEVEL MIND BLOWN
I've always thought the Amiga was able to display more on-screen colors than the Megadrive, judging by what you are saying it seems not (or maybe yes on some video modes?). I choose the Megadrive music in this case, by the way.
By 1993, they should have aimed for a 1200/4000/cd32 release and take advantage of the AGA chipset.
Thank you so much for sharing your opinion, William! Truly appreciate it!
Have a great week! Cheers!
The OCS / ECS chipset of the A500 and its siblings was able to show 4096 colors simultanously. But this HAM8 mode was awfully slow. You could watch the Amiga draw every single line.
Abraço!
Nice video ! I still prefer the Amiga soundtrack of Mega Super Turrican 3 ^^.
Yeah! I have the complete soundtrack, from all three games, on my phone and I'm listening to it all the time! :)
Cheers!
Me too ^^, the complete saga on my phone, plus all Chris Huelsbeck Kickstarters :P ! Super Turrican 2 Farewell is my favorite Turrican track. So beautiful and perfect to close the franchise.
Turrican 2 was the best with the best soundtrack , too bad it wasnt realease for Megadrive.
Yeah! My favorite soundtrack ever is the one from Turrican 2 :)
Thank you so much for watching and for leaving your comment, Luis!
Abraço!
Man I really have to find the Mega Drive version. It seems amazing!!! And that Alien themed level?? How they did get away with that??? Cheers!
An amazing game! No doubt! And the graphics on the Mega Drive version are something to behold! :)
There are so many games from that era, on a ton other platforms, that were highly influenced by the Alien franchise :) Those were amazing years!! :)
Cheers!
Ich would like to have Mega Turrican with Amiga music. The Soundtrack of Mega Turrican sounds terrible in comparison.
Kaiko were collecting ideas for Turrican 3 and asked the Amiga Games readers for help.
That's why a friend of mine is mentioned in the outro of Turrican 3 :D
Wow! Awesome to know, Roberto! Thank you so much for sharing! :)
Have a great day!
The Turrican music all my favourite ever!! and Turrican II for Amiga the best in the saga!!
Yeah!! I share those same thoughts :) The OST from Turrican 2 is my favorite ever! :)
Thank you so much for watching and for leaving your comment!
Have a great week!
Boas Pedro!
Actually, while I do miss some of the colours from the Mega Drive version I do find the backgrounds on the Amiga (or lack of them at times) a thing to prefer. The game feels somewhat cluttered visually on the Mega Drive, lacking the cleaner composition of the Amiga version (which, in turn, makes the graphics of the stages pop). A good game no matter what version you play, but I am more and more leaning towards the Amiga version as time goes by.
hi, bom jogo, alias...todos eles sao bons :D
excelente video
abraços
Sem dúvida ;) Adoro a franquia!
Abraço, Jorge!
I wish Super Turrican would have been available on the Amiga platforms but i guess developer would continue doing it on a company that's deep in trouble with money, and by 1993 Commodore were.
It would of been good at least to get an ADF image of it for emulation today..
I get the colors has to be down- graded to 32-bit color palette on the Amiga on Turrican 3, but i guess it it what it is..
Out of 4096 color palette, to put it one way, that only cold be displayed in static images and paint packages anyway on the Amiga eg. DPaint,, so makes up for the low color palette of the Sega Genesis anyway.
Unless you spend 90% of the time in Deluxe Paint III. I like Turrican 3 music better
The Amiga I don't think was in *steep* decline by 1993 but if it was it was due to poor management by Commodore and piracy but not through lack of love of the machine but yes it was in *some* decline.
Bankruptcy of course and the release of the Playstation sealed it's fate in 1994.
The AGA chipset should have hit the market in 1990 and the AAA chipset which was fully developed before Commodore went belly up should have been hit the market in 1993.
I respect your thoughts, but by the end of '92, 82% of the gaming market was focused on PC compatibles and only 5% on the Amiga. That's why I mentioned the "steep decline" of the Amiga by 1993.
Thank you so much for watching and for leaving your truly appreciated feedback!
Cheers!
Amiga
The Amiga soundtrack with the MD graphics ;)
I prefer the amiga music. Snes and mega drive sound too synth like
Indeed, they sound. Thanks for watching and for sharing your opinion, Derek!
Have a great day!
Cheers!
I was late to the Amiga and played 3 first but it has to be said the music from 2 is the best (closely followed by 1). The Megadrive always sounds weak in the audio department when the game in on multi format and it's no different with Turrican imo.
Yeah, I still prefer the OST from the second Turrican game! So memorable! :)
Thank you so much for sharing your opinion!
Have a great day!
Hey you where playing syvalion at the start
Eh eh eh! Not quite ;) Well catched, though! :)
Cheers!
Mega Turrican would theoretically beat Turrican 3 in every way. But in practice I think the game controls better and is better balanced on the Amiga, especially with a two button joystick (one of the rare cases of this happening). Super Turrican as you said is a different game. Its good but not as good as Mega/T3, in my opinion.
Thank you so much for sharing your opinion, Amerigo! :) And yes, the game plays better on the Amiga ;) That's also my opinion :)
Have a great day!
Cheers!
Nunca joguei
Tens que jogar :)
Turrican 2 > all these "newer" Turrican titles
Thank you so much for watching and for leaving your comment :) Truly appreciate it!
Cheers!
Something I didn't know, it explains a lot, thanks... by the way, have you tried Hurrican?
www.winterworks.de/project/hurrican/
Wow! Thank you so much for that! Gonna check it out ;)
SNES version is the best
Thanks for watching and for your feedback! :) Appreciate it!
Cheers!
Turrican 2 isn't really the best balance wise, boss design and difficulty, also the MS-DOS and Acorn port's remenants existing are a few sprites, Super Turrican was rushed through completion making several bosses, new enemies and an extra stage and world go scrapped, possibly music tracks too, the Amiga T-3 is missing 1 music track and some songs sound different, the boss themes are weaker sounding, and there's a lower color pallet even though they could've used the a.g.a chipset to be supported, and less sprites on screen and several parallax inconsistences, and some stages on the Amiga sound much weaker than their Mega Drive originals.
Thanks for watching and for leaving your thoughts on this game.
Take care! Cheers!
