I used to have a society finch pair many years ago. The male would sing such a unique melody every morning. I think the morning sun definitely encouraged his performance.
One of my society hens will raise ANYTHING.. to date she has raised zebras, cherry, firetails, longtails, stars. She also raised a nest of mystery chicks which turned out to chestnut breasted mannikin X society hen.
I’m hoping you can help with this. I have a baby society finch that’s out of its nest at just two weeks old. There’s two other babies still in the nest and I don’t know if I should try to put that one back in or if they’ll feed it and keep it warm on the bottom of the cage.
Yes. Temps between 75- 90 are great for the birds as long as they can escape wind, rain, and direct sunlight. They can tolerate temps above or below those ranges but may need extra heating/cooling to keep them safe.
Advice Please! I’ve had my two finches for almost a year. While cleaning their cage, (I have two cages I switch between cage cleanings) I discovered two eggs in their coconut 🥥 after almost a year I didn’t expect this, but I am excited! I already moved them into the other cage. I just put their coconut/eggs into their clean cage with them. Will they accept this transition? I placed it in the center of the cage. Previously it was at the top. Not until this video did I know nest should be placed near top of cage. I don’t know what to do now. Do I move the coconut again near the top? Just leave it? Or Do I put them all back into original cage?
They most likely won’t except it and you should throw away the egg after a few days if they don’t accept the new nest. Just leave the nest at the top of the cage and give them a couple weeks and hopefully they will start again for you.
Beautiful birds. I've a question. I've a male paired up with a hen. But I've two other hens separate in two other cages. Can I somehow get him to mate the other two all separate. So basically 3 cages with 3 hens and 1 male. I don't wanna mix them all in together. If u could reply soon I'd appreciate it.
You could try it. Have nests in all 3 cages so the females are getting ready to breed and rotate the male through all 3 hens. Once the hens have laid their 4th egg you could remove the male and put him with the next hen. I’ve never tried that before so don’t know if it would work or not.
One thing I was taught with society’s is their vocalizations are different between male and female. Their chirps I guess is their difference. So obviously males have their mating dance song and vocal call as well, but apparently when you listen closely, females chirps sound like crickets. I’ve been successful ever since :) hope that helps
Hi Christofer I have bien wash in you video and ironing .I witsh I was close by .i would love to help building you aviery. I just finished my house and haven't built my aviery soon love your video you are very good kid good luck
I been having society finches for some time they are female n male have a nest like the one you recommend they go in n out they even put grass n soft string in the nest but NO EGGS AT ALL I FEED THEM give them boil egg fresh water clean cage i do hear him sing but NO EGGS why dont understand whats wrong ? please sent me an answer thank you
You have a beautiful aviary. I had zebra finches years ago and honestly didn't care for them because they seemed much more skittish, not to mention their 'song' or chirp sounds like a cross between a kazoo and laser tag. I also had cockatiels (Very sweet but incredibly needy) and parakeets (loved them). I wouldn't get into the parrot species, as that's monumental needs, as I am sure bird lovers know what I mean. I love the society finch's chirp or song- It seems softer and pleasant sounding plus not nervous in temperament. What's your opinion?
I have a question. I have a male and female finch.I let them hatch one egg baby. She is a girl. She is just over a month old.Do I separate her from them? or do I separate the male from the 2 girls? or do I just keep them all together? I'm not a breeder .What should I do in this case please?
I recently bought 2 society finches.A male and female. They do not have tail feathers.Do you know if their tails feathers will grow back? I can't find any info on that. Or if anyone knows? Thank you.
I bought two finches in December, I thought I got two females but they just hatched babies. I don't know what to do, I wasn't planning on breeding them and now I'm worried they're going to keep breeding. Don't get me wrong babies are awesome, I just don't know what to do.
My finch eggs aren't hatching, how long should I wait until I remove the eggs? And should I separate the male from the female? If so when? Please respond
From my experience, I don’t separate the male from the female. The male feeds the chicks as much as the hen, if they eggs are at least a week over their hatch date, then remove the eggs. Add in some egg and biscuit and give them fresh vegetables and some calcium supplements for healthy fertile eggs.
I have tubs of males and few females and the bengalese I haven’t a clue who is who I think I do then they do something that says that they are other way
Best way is to band their legs a different color. Your males will sing and your females will not. Once a male sings separate him from the flock and that will encourage any other males to start singing as well.
And one I haven’t a clue who’s the parents I have been told it’s it’s grey checked black beaked zebra finch but I haven’t got any grey cheeked blacked beaked zebra finch I have a grey ish one but that has loads of white on it and beige on it so I am confused and only ones who’s been feeding it is males so I am completely confused lol
Do they eat others birds eggs I have zebra and society finches together I saw this morning the society had a egg and I looked 10 minutes later and it was gone also what type of food should I buy them for breeding ?
It could be that they are calcium deficient so they are eating their eggs. Provide calcium bone at all times for them. And see if that helps. If not you may have to try and place fake eggs under them and when they can’t break and eat them then it could break the bad habit of eating their own eggs.

Yes I agree. Fun little birds to have and to listen too.
I love my society finch. They are special and a smart bird

My request was fulfilled! Thanks for the upload!! Please do more society videos in the future
I’d love to see more about using them to foster, different situations that crop up and supplemental feeding tips.
Thank you for good reliable information. 🐝🐦

Great video! What size (inches) are your Society Finch breeding cages used in this video?
Do you keep your birds in a outside area. What is a good temperature to have them for outside aviary
Yes. Temps between 75- 90 are great for the birds as long as they can escape wind, rain, and direct sunlight. They can tolerate temps above or below those ranges but may need extra heating/cooling to keep them safe.
chim non sẽ bắt đầu sinh sản sau bao nhiêu tháng tuổi bro ?
Your birds look beautiful.I got my pair from Country Max in Geneseo,NY.I feel like I recused them.
Thank you for videos.

where do I get this society finch? i had check all the pet store and they dont have it. would you sell it? or any idea where to get it?
I have a trio doing an awesome job raising some English zebras. Then they added their own eggs so the nest box is very full!

@@birdnerd I'll try it. Will a hen sit on the eggs and feed them on her own ya think?
Yes she will.
I can't find any society finishes anymore.I live in Chicago I checked the suburbs too.No luck.Is anybody elder can help me??😮

They worked out very well ,the birds take time to get used to anything new but everyday I see a bird at the nest.
Nice looking finches!

Thank you for watching. Best of luck when you build your aviary.
How much small do you mean , is 30w × 35h × 22d good for the couple? Or bigger than that?
I wouldn’t go smaller than that. I always recommend bigger is better. Once they are done breeding put them into a bigger cage for exercise.
I have three nestlingd right now. Thanks for the information. I'm ttryingvthe deep nest boxes on the inside.
How have the deep nest boxes worked out for you?
Where did you find your selfs? My goal is to get some and I haven’t found anything local. I would appreciate any suggestions or names.

How can u tell the difference between male and female cocktail ?
What do you do with all of the babies that you raise?
Will the society females lay eggs and nest without a male and is the male or female better feeders

I would separate them to a wood interbreeding.
I have zebra finches and bengalese finches too
Best of luck with them.
I recently bought 2 society finches.A male and female. They do not have tail feathers.Do you know if their tails feathers will grow back? I can't find any info on that. Or if anyone knows? Thank you.
Oh, I have 5 in a big cage. They don't sit on eggs long and yeah breeding isn't good. I'll see if I can downsize the number
I bought two finches in December, I thought I got two females but they just hatched babies. I don't know what to do, I wasn't planning on breeding them and now I'm worried they're going to keep breeding. Don't get me wrong babies are awesome, I just don't know what to do.
Let them raise the babies. Once the babies are feathered and eating in their own then separate your original pair so that they can’t breed anymore.

Never bred society finches and i know how i just fostered one gouldian finch and put 3 fake eggs around that one and went great
Can I keep 2 male finches together? Or 2 females?
Yes that should be fine for most finches.
@@birdnerd ok thanks--if I have a male and female will they only breed if I provide a nest?
No they’ll try to breed regardless of a nest being in the cage or not.
I really want to breed them again but I only have 2 males at the moment.. Nobody seems to be selling females and it's really annoying.
I have tubs of males and few females and the bengalese I haven’t a clue who is who I think I do then they do something that says that they are other way

Next time the Kids out of the room
I've had society finches kill babies from other species as well as theirs
Why do you think they'll do that 😢😢😢

Post some pics of it
I STARTED OUT WITH TWO FEMALE AND TWO MALES. NOW AFTER JUST SIX MONTHS I NOW HAVE FOURTEEN BIRDS .ALL BABIES .COOL HU.
