I purchased several sunshine ligustrum last year. I thought they were not going to make it as they dropped most of their leaves. Scared me! However, they all came back this spring...better than ever!
@@juliefoley6407how often do you water new plants, I just planted 4 of them about a month ago and they seem to be maintaining, I water them every day is that too much?
Mine defoliated the whole bottom during the winter and did what I could to make it flush out this spring. Finally pulled the 3 of them. Did not plant too deep, adequate water. Been a gardener for 30 yrs, planting trees and shrubs, so I don't understand what went wrong. Western NC. zone 7.
So helpful that you are in NC as I hail from the Greensboro area ! Many thanks for your helpful content. Good to know that this Chinese Privet is bulletproof!
Can these take a heavy pruning? Which drawf loropetalum would you recommend with them? I'm liking the purple day dream but also the crimson fire or cerise.
Live in a corner lot so I need about 6-7ft high shrub for privacy along fence..my yard sits high so people can see us from street. Do u recommend this one, red photinoa or baby giant avrobiate?? I think I love in zone 9 in Clovis California. I also need about 12 to 15ft to block my 2 story meighboor in the back.
I have found some at a nursery that were bright yellow but no brown leaves. Looked healthy to me. However, I've read that if this plant gets yellow that there might be root issues. Is this true? I really like the bright yellow but don't want any issues. Is yellow okay or should I stick to green?
Hi. Do their leaves turn green? We have them on our fence( planted by the old house owner) and they turned green. The new leaves sprouting are yellow but turn green as they mature. How can I keep them yellow? Thanks.
I planted these all around my house in October 2020. They have lost all their leaves and looks like they are about to die. Is this normal? I live near Benson, NC.
My sunshine ligustrum haven’t put out new growth since winter. In fact a couple are losing their leaves and the stems are dying. Do you have any idea what might be wrong? I garden in zone 8. Thanks
I have some sunshine ligustrum that are 3yrs old and this year the bottom 2/3rds aren’t leaving out and it looks like it’s affecting the top leafing. They are on an irrigation system with early watering but I’m concerned I might be loosing them! Any suggestions? I need help 😳
I am having problems with leaves turning brown. I trimmed off all the bad foliage and was shocked that only 18 hours later the healthy leaves started turning brown (from the end of the branch first). It seems you don't answer many questions about solving problems with the plants sold by this company. I would appreciate some guidance. Thank you!
Looks like your baby gem boxwood is doing great. I actually planted an row of them as a hedge that is back planted with bloomstruck Hydrangea. But my baby gem boxwood is suffering from what looks to be blight. They have been in the ground for about a year and are really well established but I keep getting large chucks of branches dying off and they hold on to the dead leaves. 😩 I live In savannah ga. How do you keep yours free from blight? We seem to have the same growing conditions.
I see that occasionally on Boxwoods. I don't know if that is root damage on just an individual root or what that is. I would clean tools between cuts for sure though.
HortTube with Jim Putnam okay. well at this point I will probably replace them with something similar that’s not a boxwood. They are a little to far gone in my opinion and will probably take years to become an even solid hedge again. What’s something that you can recommend me? Must be dwarf because it’s near the sidewalk.
Since you possibly have some root rot issue, I would consider one of the dwarf abelia or dwarf Loropetalum I have covered. Raise anything you are planting there.
Hi, I have several southern living sunshine lugustrums most planted on a hill in our backyard. I planted several last spring (2020) and more this year (2021). I am in metro GA and we have been getting a lot of rain and experiencing some pretty cool evening this spring. Sadly I have noticed that a few of my lugustrums I planted last year have lost many of their leaves after heavy rains...one completely bare. Will the leaves return this summer or are they dead. Please HELP )-;
In my limited experience with this plant in zone 7b, it is not reliably evergreen. I would consider it tardily deciduous. And it takes several months to flush out (not weeks).
Jim, great video .very informative. I planted 5 - 10 gallon sunshine legustrums as feature shrubs on a large water feature 16 years ago. Last year, almost all lost leaves in winter for first time. Came back ok in early spring Then several began shedding again leaving large brown sections in otherwise bright yellow foliage. I see no visible evidence of insect or fungal infestation. Have experienced Both in Leyland cypress and Little giant arborvite. Do you have any suggestions that could explain mass leaf shedding in only parts of these shrubs? I have snipped off a few leafless branches and peeled back bark which is still green. Some of these shrubs have a height of 10ft And width about the same. All are getting about 5-8 hrs of direct sun. I am in central NC. Zone 7.
Do these get “leggy”? Also, how hard can you trim these back? I want to keep it in a spherical shape at no bigger than 2 feet height and 2 feet width. Is that possible to do?
I just bought one of these and got the shipment this past week. I can't wait to see this do it's thing. I paired it with the purple/pink azaleas.
Love that part of your yard.
Thanks. It's really coming along.

OMG - I think this is the right shrub for a really bright space. Thanks!
I'm glad. Thanks for watching
I LOVE mine!!! Best cute lil shrub ever!!!
I think a dwarf species of Sunshine would be great. It could make them pair better with baby gems.
I LOVE these shrubs❤️
I have 9 of them. I love them. 6 in my back yard and 3 in the front yard. 💞💞💞💞
Wow. That's a lot of color.
Thank you 😘👍🏻
Thank you! I’ve been thinking about getting one for my yard!

Yes it would
I got one of these last time you did a video of this. They grow fast and love full sun in my front yard bed!
Hi, did they grow out of control? I want to do the same, “ front bed”.
Anna Davis no and even if it does get too wide or tall for your area, you can trim it to whatever shape you need.
I love Sunshine Ligustrum. This shrub grows fast, is electric, and extremely hardy.
nice brother
Thank you
Thank you for your information videos. Any shrub ideas for corner area up against a house?

Would these be okay to plant in the summer, or would you recommend planting early Fall or Spring?
I think you could plant these anytime. Really tough plants.
Wondering the same! I just got 20 of these in zone 9 for $1.98 each! I’m putting them in & praying! Feel like I hit the lottery!!!!
Unfortunately, my deer here in Charlotte love this plant.
Can this bush be propagated? I have one in the backyard but it's started to get more shady back there so I want another one to put in Front yard!
In Central Florida this plant really struggles. Foliage become bleached, it turn brown and drops and ceases to grow. Causes unknown

at the nursery i was told that they get yellow with more sun exposure - they can tolerate shade, but will be more green then.

What’s the difference between ligustrum and lemon lime nandina? They look so much alike. Are they sisters??

A ft per year depending on fertilizer
