Hi Aaron and everyone: I saw a tip for preventing the mess...aluminum foil. You can shape it around the exhaust however you need to funnel it right into your drain pan. An epic tip I've used for years, and I'm passing it along!
Dude , if you have a service manual for the mark 1 , download one , you need to tighten the filter to 17 Nm , the manual also advises against hand tightining. Page 2-49.
I have a 2016 ZX-6R with about 16k miles on it. Have done 4 oil changes with full synthetic every 3500 miles and never put oil in the filter with each change. Wondering if I should... never got the oil light on. Hmm
That issue mainly affects much older bikes than yours. If what you've been doing has worked for you, then I see no reason to change, but it shouldn't hurt anything to pre-fill the filter, either.
I heard someone saying that oil going up when engine is running is not normal, instead it is supposed to go down. Mine does exactly like yours, oil up when engine running. What do you think? Thanks.
On this engine, it's totally normal. What you're seeing is the oil as it comes out of the engine and into the sight glass cavity, before it drains to the sump. On some other designs, the sight glass is located in the sump, and the level would appear to drop on those while the engine is running.

Very helpful video, thank you
Well done! Clear, concise and informative. What more can one ask for? Beauty!
Excellent video I’m about to change the oil on my 2008 Kawasaki versys right now. Thank you 🙏🏻
You can cover the exhaust with aluminum foil , for the oil to drain on the pan with out making the exhaust pipe dirty.
Good tip!
Oops, I had not seen your comment before I said the same thing.
Such nice pacing of the video and very informative. Thank you so much for making this and great job on the audio and all of the video cuts!
Thanks, I hope it helped you out. :)
Most thorough step-by-step explanation.. Thank you sir.
Ace video, super helpful and saved me a lot of money!! Thanks 🙏
According to the service manual you need 17Nm of torque for the filter which cannot be done by hand. You need a torque wrench.
