I absolutely love the 488 GTB/Spider! It looks so stunning and the performance is simply amazing. It may sound a little bit quieter than the naturally aspirated V8 in the 458s but I personally would prefer the 488 GTB/Spider over the 458 Italia/Spider. The 458 series was and still is undoubtedly brilliant in every way, but the 488 is definitely a step forward. What a fantastic and beautiful machine!
Come on people. It's only lacking 1000 rpm compered to 458 Speciale. And for being a turbo it's as high revving and best sounding as it gets. More importantly it's a very attractive car for people who really matter, the paying customers :) There is a long line to get one of these.
For some reason the 458 and the 488 just don't tick the box for sound, I have no idea why but they are no where near the beautiful sound of the other models..looks wise there stunning but again just miss that performance sound. Of course it's subjective but hay ho
+Speednote10 The first GTO was a V12, Ferrari 250 GTO. The next however was a Ferrari 288 GTO 2.9L Twin turbo V8. Then the 599 GTO which was a V12. So they could maybe. But I do think they will go the Scuderia or Speciale way or even a 3rd option.
It has not lost "a tiny bit." It has a lot of the amazing sound from the 458. Nothing like a naturally aspirated 4.5 liter engine screaming at 7000+ RPM. It also has a lot of turbo "whirring" sounds when not accelerating. But it it faster and improved modestly in other ways.
I don't understand why everyone thought the 458 sounded amazing, it was a typical flat plane tricked up sound. it was nothing compared to a huracan in that regard . I think the 488 sounds deeper and better personally.
Why would you ever buy this in red or blue, it looks absolutely gorgeous in yellow and it contrasts the carbon fiber exterior trim, which I usually don't like, beautifully. Given the choice, I'd take this over the F12.... In fact I'd even take it over the LaFerrari. The only thing I don't like is the door handles, although I'm sure they serve some aerodynamic purpose.
I dont think this man actually knows what a screaming Ferrari v8 sounds like. The 458 had a raptor of an engine while this 488 might sound the dame in the lower gears, it still sounds like its a 458 locked at 5k rps when the 488 is red lining
I don't think Ferrari should've allowed the 488 GTB to replace the 458 Italia. I am not saying they should not have produced it. But they should have kept the 458 Italia alongside the 488 GTB, thus giving customers the choice of either a Naturally Aspirated or Turbo-Charged V8.
Good film.. I enjoyed that. Thank you. Can you say whereabouts in Italy it was filmed.. lovely countryside for a backdrop. And ample hairpin bends. Happy days. WF
I find it rather amazing that they have managed to keep the rigidity the same as the Coupe - That fact kind of nearly nullifies and doubts about buying this car if you live in a part of the world where the sun shines most of the time, yes even further north one would properly only drive this car in the summer half of the year and it would still be pretty viable since its a hardtop. I had the pleasant experience seeing a red 458 Italia, close the a red 488 last week both parked in the expensive shopping street of Berlin. And I must say that the 488 GTB looks better - The side intakes add to he curvature and lines and makes it more muscular, looks slightly wider and a bit more aggressive and planted than the 458 - It says; see me and respect me. Nothing wrong with the 458 but it´s amazing how the expression still is different.
A new F1 heritage supercar masterpiece with sounds also like the current F1 cars which also resembles the pure sound of the masterpiece of electronic appliance..the Dyson...
Can someone tell me why did Ferrari made a twin turbo for their 488? As for their previous model like the older 458 is NS. The sound of the 488 is great but not as incredible as the 458 NA engine.
I was not liking much the hardtop design of this 488 but the spider looks much more interesting. The front bumper design is still a bit dull. You could put the audio of the previous ferrari review and it would be pretty much the same : ). OOoh the sound....
i dislike those tow bars in the centre of the front... otherwise, this is a real ferrari. and a ferrari should have a crazy ferrari sound and not sound like a silent porsche or audi like this one
ever since they started tuning the exhaust sounds, ferrari have become too soft with their cars, the 458 italia and the f430 were the last to really shine.
its all in the sound for me. this just means that the 458 is cheaper now, which I'm cool with, bc thats the one i want anyway. NA, no stupid air vents, and a 10x better sound.
The sound has a tinge of McLaren in it. Not bad by any means, but I think I do prefer the NA sound over this. However, the 488 is still the more desirable car for me.
One minute in and No it does not sound like a Ferrari should. My Cooper S makes similar turboey noises from it's 2l Turbo and I'm not saying this to talk my car up. I wonder if this Ferrari will sell well and retain value well..
For some reason I feel these supercar reviews aren't 'reviews' anymore. When you watch all those videos the 'reviewers' all have the same sentiments about any car. They're all raves for the manufacturer's product. Perhaps it's a case of 'if you don't rave about my car and help sell it, I won't give you any more cars to review'?
The noise is a bit soulless, but then the 458's noise is soulless as well. I personally prefer the 488 as it looks better, is more refined and is much faster.
The problem is, Who buy only one, used, normal version of Ferrari v8...and the choice is with 458, 430, 360 for example...probably WANT a big bang noise...i like it so much but i hear silence.
The 458 just looks so much better. And unless you're on the track everyday with one of these cars, how much is the performance really worth? I'll take the much better 458 please..
Motor Sportz I disagree. The 458 was clean and smooth. This is the 458's ugly brother. It isn't as flawless and beautiful; it isn't bad, it's just not as a good as the 458. But I respect your opinion.
I’m sorry I thought I heard you say that Ferrari engineers “were able to keep torsional rigidity the same in the Spider” ummmm, I’ve driven both and the 458/488/F8 have some of the worst scuttle shake I’ve ever experienced in a modern drop top convertible…..it’s appallingly bad
Why do Ferrari insist on flipping the roof upside down when folding it away, if you get caught in a rain storm and have to put the roof up wont the roof flip over and tip water into the interior?
I love everything about this car just as you do, but one problem, the exaust. OOOOHHH HOW IT WAS JUST RUINED OOOOOOHHH C'MON FERRARI WHY DID YOU HAVE TO ADD FRIGGIN' TURBOCHARGERS THE 458 IS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER.
+Bat MikiPig the downside is that it's a ferrari. which means it'll be slower than the competitors and ferrari won't let you race them. (in case it wasn't obvious, it's a joke. but i really do think being a ferrari is a downside)
WTF stop shifting so fast, rev it out all the way to redline, let us hear it.....this guy needs to stay behind a desk not reviewing.....never again auto express....love u guys!
Allright, I'm a Ferrari fan, but this is like the reviewer is trying to convince himself that it's a good sounding Ferrari. He's even screaming adjetives about the sound even before stepping on it... IMO, it's not a good sounding Ferrari and it's not an "animalistic sounding" anything.
+ThePandaBeat True, but it does sound good for a turbocharged engine and that's the main thing. No one would ever think that it is going to sound as good as a high revving NA engine because that would be impossible. We have entered the turbo era of supercars, next stop electric (unfortunately)
Not hating but... This guy is not great at reviewing, he doesn't tell you anything useful really, his key points were, erm... It fast... It sounds ok... It's fast... He laughs a lot and then tells you the price and doesn't compare it to any other cars I the same price bracket. I crei.
Pretty sure I witnessed a gecko murder at the 2:47 mark... RIP little gecko and all of your dreams...
+Salomondrin RIP gecko #salomondrinlovedgecko
when are you buying it Alejandro?
+Salomondrin I am delusional. Ground effect tossed little lizard thru rear diffusor into sky and he first time saw his house from above.
+Salomondrin Just lost its tail, not a big deal :)
+Tony Montana Exactly right, tony xDD Saw that vid too
I absolutely love the 488 GTB/Spider! It looks so stunning and the performance is simply amazing. 488 better looking than both 458 and F8! Total masterpiece.
I'm afraid the 458 is still the queen for me. It's certainly slower but the noise is on another level compared to the 488. It also looks better.
For some reason the 458 and the 488 just don't tick the box for sound, I have no idea why but they are no where near the beautiful sound of the other models..looks wise there stunning but again just miss that performance sound. Of course it's subjective but hay ho
+ianiva WRONG 488 looks much better
Motor Sportz Looks are subjective. You think it does, I think it doesn't. Those side intakes in particular mess up the design.
ianiva 488 looks meaner to me all around the 458 looks too soft and yes i know its my opinion.
Motor Sportz So why do you write WRONG? Idiot
The "Speciale" version of this is going to be NUTS!
+Rottensteam it's called 488 GTO, maybe.
+Hendra Di It'll be awesome if they use that name again.
+Hendra Di I seriously doubt that they would use that name for a V8 model.
+Rottensteam 488 Challenge Stradale sounds pretty good!
0:40 _"behind the _*_rear_*_ seats"_...? :P
This car is a triumph. Great job Ferrari!
Great review - this is much more like the quality of videos people would love to see consistently from Auto Express
whats the song in the beginning?
I've just ordered one today...! Video will be on our channel 😎 Good review, it made me buy one
Ok
It has not lost "a tiny bit." It has a lot of the amazing sound from the 458. Nothing like a naturally aspirated 4.5 liter engine screaming at 7000+ RPM. It also has a lot of turbo "whirring" sounds when not accelerating. But it it faster and improved modestly in other ways.
1:30 that turn😨😨
"In a class of it's own". That is Ferrari, thoroughly in a class of it's own, and above the rest.
yellow seems to be the best color for this car!!
I don't understand why everyone thought the 458 sounded amazing, it was a typical flat plane tricked up sound. it was nothing compared to a huracan in that regard . I think the 488 sounds deeper and better personally.
When does it officially come out?
Looks brilliant in yellow with those wheels. Looks have grown on me a lot!
The most perfect car on earth.
What's the music used
huracan or 488 spider, what will you choose and why?
Why would you ever buy this in red or blue, it looks absolutely gorgeous in yellow and it contrasts the carbon fiber exterior trim, which I usually don't like, beautifully. Given the choice, I'd take this over the F12.... In fact I'd even take it over the LaFerrari. The only thing I don't like is the door handles, although I'm sure they serve some aerodynamic purpose.
the 488 looks better in yellow . the front is not as agressive as 458
"As if you're in a S-class-limousine".....Yeah right.....obviously you are not qualified enough to do car reviews
+HalloProletariat might as well say ' as if you're in a rolls royce phantom limousine'
+HalloProletariat Difference is he has actually driven an S Class and the 488.
What are your qualifications for making that statement?
Never driven a 488 but I've been in a car with magnetic shocks, they're pretty comparable. It really offers the best of both worlds
GREAT REVIEW! Welcome back Auto Express.
Fill the void Bbc has created...
I dont think this man actually knows what a screaming Ferrari v8 sounds like. The 458 had a raptor of an engine while this 488 might sound the dame in the lower gears, it still sounds like its a 458 locked at 5k rps when the 488 is red lining

Is this car better in yellow or white? What color do you guys like?
I find it rather amazing that they have managed to keep the rigidity the same as the Coupe - That fact kind of nearly nullifies and doubts about buying this car if you live in a part of the world where the sun shines most of the time, yes even further north one would properly only drive this car in the summer half of the year and it would still be pretty viable since its a hardtop.

Would still prefer that 458 NA V8
Maybe the best review ever. Well done.
What noise?
those FF diamond wheels look soooo good
A new F1 heritage supercar masterpiece with sounds also like the current F1 cars which also resembles the pure sound of the masterpiece of electronic appliance..the Dyson...
Did anyone else see the small lizard run across the road @ 2:47
488 Spider is the one Ferrari I would pick if I could only have one from the current lineup.
why does he keep short-shifting?
I believe that's as high as the engine can rev.
+Raptor it revs past 8000, so he is definitwly shortshifting due to long gears.
Masterpiece, I would have this over the McLaren 650s any day.
It really isn't as loud as a 458 :(
because turbo.
This is why you put straight pipes with a cat delete, now you make the car Louis as possible
OOoh the sound....
it's turbocharged in this case the 650s takes the cake :)
huracan spyder 488 spyder? which is better ??
488 all the way!
i dislike those tow bars in the centre of the front... otherwise, this is a real ferrari. and a ferrari should have a crazy ferrari sound and not sound like a silent porsche or audi like this one
killer colour combo I must say, miss the 9000 rpm revving 458 though
nice sound but not close to the NA ones, not close
What's up with all these turbocharged engines in supercars these days? Other than that, this car looks very nice in that yellow!
ever since they started tuning the exhaust sounds, ferrari have become too soft with their cars, the 458 italia and the f430 were the last to really shine.
Those still don't hold a candle to the 355's sweet note
The 360 was the last to shine. The 430 and 458 are both quite vacuum cleaner sounding at times
I really like this car! Looks so much better than the coupe.
and so much better than the McLaren 650S
its all in the sound for me. this just means that the 458 is cheaper now, which I'm cool with, bc thats the one i want anyway. NA, no stupid air vents, and a 10x better sound.
Belleza, prestaciones y toda la esencia de Ferrari. Cada vez Ferrari hace coches mas excitantes en cuanto a prestaciones :)
I don't agree with you !!
it doesn't sounds like any other Ferrari. it lacks the anger and sharpness in the sound.
Looks much better than the huracan spider especially from the front imo
The sound has a tinge of McLaren in it. Not bad by any means, but I think I do prefer the NA sound over this. However, the 488 is still the more desirable car for me.
2:47 shame on you! Almost catched that lizard :| ;)
One minute in and No it does not sound like a Ferrari should. My Cooper S makes similar turboey noises from it's 2l Turbo and I'm not saying this to talk my car up. I wonder if this Ferrari will sell well and retain value well..

Yep I noticed that too. Godzilla, his brother won't be happy. Still love the 488, it's not a lizard killer, blame the driver.
Would you tell me how much 488 grab in us
Sounds exactly like a Golf GTI...
Well done ferrari.
im not lying like everyone else on youtube. In 3 weeks im not sure if i should get a huracan spyder. 650s. or 488 spider. plz help
The noise is a bit soulless, but then the 458's noise is soulless as well. I personally prefer the 488 as it looks better, is more refined and is much faster.

Hi, Keep It Up. lovely hook !
first point of call- wind deflectors! more imagery and less commentry. it would then be twice the video.
This Ferrari literally sounds like an aggressive stallion who hasn't had carrots in ages 🐴
The 458 just looks so much better. And unless you're on the track everyday with one of these cars, how much is the performance really worth? I'll take the much better 458 please..
+Charlie Long 488 looks like what the 458 should have even the exhaust pipes look perfect. 488 > 458
Motor Sportz I disagree. The 458 was clean and smooth. This is the 458's ugly brother. It isn't as flawless and beautiful; it isn't bad, it's just not as a good as the 458. But I respect your opinion.
Charlie Long Give it time ...It looks like a mans car now. 458 sounds better though
i disagree, 458's front end looks childish. I prefer 488, it looks angry
nice , gotta look at reviews of other exotics,
sounds like a golf r, a really expensive golf r
I hope they back to naturally aspirated engine, Forza Ferrari.
***** Don't say that.
+Hendra Di Not gonna happen.
hmm still not loving the noise of this, the 458 sounded so much more!!
I have this car at America🇺🇸
amazing car!!
Why do Ferrari insist on flipping the roof upside down when folding it away, if you get caught in a rain storm and have to put the roof up wont the roof flip over and tip water into the interior?
love this car
I love everything about this car just as you do, but one problem, the exaust. OOOOHHH HOW IT WAS JUST RUINED OOOOOOHHH C'MON FERRARI WHY DID YOU HAVE TO ADD FRIGGIN' TURBOCHARGERS THE 458 IS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER.
I can't prefer this noise to the 458's one...I try and try again but I can't.
It sounds crap compared to the 458
sounds crap?!!!!...& you drive what that's interesting?
+Audiwan Kenobi why don't you read my comment properly before spewing out a reply? I said it sounds crap COMPARED TO THE 458.....
STILL WRONG!...go clean your freakin ears out.
Deaf baby.
+Audiwan Kenobi what's 'wrong' with liking the 458 screaming sound?
i HATE the color correction on this video :/
Well after watching this video I'm getting a feeling of robbing a bank
Might do it with you (:
Poor gecko they will need a new lizard for ghe geico commercial :"(
All those turbo V8s (Ferrari 488, all McLarens) sound like they are screaming through rusty bucket
Sorry but it did sound terrible during the whole video.
No downside? Obvious, it's a Ferrari!
+Bat MikiPig the downside is that it's a ferrari. which means it'll be slower than the competitors and ferrari won't let you race them. (in case it wasn't obvious, it's a joke. but i really do think being a ferrari is a downside)
You are also right, be a ferrari il like be Messi, you must be the best... non excuse
WTF stop shifting so fast, rev it out all the way to redline, let us hear it.....this guy needs to stay behind a desk not reviewing.....never again auto express....love u guys!
Sounds pretty cool BUT no as glorious as a 458s NA V8. RIP NA engines soons..... :(
Tiny Bit!? you mean night n day..
Agee completely, just not a pure sound to me
+ThePandaBeat True, but it does sound good for a turbocharged engine and that's the main thing.
No one would ever think that it is going to sound as good as a high revving NA engine because that would be impossible.
We have entered the turbo era of supercars, next stop electric (unfortunately)
and i wanna see the engine bay...
the design isnt as refined as the 458 and that really dissapoints me...
Not hating but... This guy is not great at reviewing, he doesn't tell you anything useful really, his key points were, erm... It fast... It sounds ok... It's fast... He laughs a lot and then tells you the price and doesn't compare it to any other cars I the same price bracket. I crei.
Resumindo o carro é bom pra caralho !
nice ferrari 488
Sweet machine...
Sorry but the italia sounds 1000 times better
458 sounds better in my opinion
its pronounced coupe, not cou-pa
i will take this any day over the 650s, Chris Harris problem solved.
I'll have 1 in white pls .
