Lance McDonald check if they use different NPCs for true Iosefka and impostor Iosefka. I've tried looking through the broken glass on the door but I wasn't so sure
Hey, how do you manage to find unused content and use stuff like that "sheez gift"? As far as I know the PS4 doesn't have a "jailbreak" that allows game file access or modifications. I'm just really curious about this. (I know we can see how you do these things in your twitter but I don't have one, although maybe I'll make an account someday)
Regarding cutscenes, it has been speculated that the temporary fade to black that occurs after delivering the Queenly Flesh to the Altar of Despair is indicative of a removed cutscene. If nothing else, I would love to know why this fade to black was included in the game or if it's a remnant relating to other cut content.
Well, I always thought that Amelia and the Cleric Beast we met before were two variations or maybe two levels (I don't know a better word) of the same thing, so having the same soundtrack would really make sense.
@@arcanaobscura3519 I thought given that a cleric is just a person employed by the church vicar Amelia would be considered a Cleric Beast. The first one you see is probably another churchman who transformed earlier
Micolash's wearing the student uniform, and so probably would be Lawrence. No need to whip up a new NPC when you could just use one you already have, when you're not going to see anything other than a bit of their clothes.
That Cleric Beast Intro is amazing. Can't belive they took it out.. I mean I know it's because the boss location of the Cleric Beast changed and all.. but still..
It's amazing in the sense it exists. It is completely unfinished though. Just compare it to anything else in the game and you will see it is incredibly rough. For instance the whole thing takes too long, the transitions are not nicely timed and the animations aren't on par with what the rest of the game has. It was more than likely a mock up for the cgi trailer, just like that other bit with the large mob.
One of the earliest Project Beast trailers ends with Cleric Beast jumping into the grand cathedral in a similar manner, sans cutscene. I honestly think cleric beast WAS originally the intended boss there, and the title screen cinematic was created before that was changed. It seems there was quite a bit of debate over which boss to put in the grand cathedral. One of the early trailers depicts ebrietas there, too.
Another interesting detail from that trailer is Vicar Amelia appears in Hemwick Witches boss arena too. Judging by her current moveset it would be a nightmare to fight her in that small place.
I rewatched that trailer and yeah, he was definitely in Yhorm's arena. I wonder why they did such changes. Wolnir didn't have any cutscenes but they put effort to make a Vicar cutscene in Hemwick just for the project beast trailer? I hope Lance finds that cutscene
Ki Ninlil It wasn't a cutscene. If you re-watch the trailer for Project Beast you'll see that it's just Amelia in her idle animation, but someone added a sound effect and changed the camera angle.
I believe the Master Willem in the middle of nowhere cutscene might be some sort of animation test for the cutscene of his dialogue with Laurence when you touch the skull in the Cathedral. The angles seem to be the same.
Based on your other videos, I think most of the early game was supposed to be hunting down Laurence, who had completed his transformation into the Cleric Beast. When they reworked that plot thread, the references to Laurence were removed and the cleric beast was made a random big scary enemy. And when the DLC came around, they made Laurence a cleric beast pallete swap in tribute to this original version of the game.
In a very early version of Bloodborne the Cleric Beast would drop the “Living Liver of the Healing Bishop Herbert”. Herbert got translated to Norbert in a somewhat later version and in that version the player was told to seek Norbert if they wanted to find the blood of a sage My guess is that the sage would’ve been Laurence and that when you reach the cathedral you’d realize that Herbert/Norbert has now become a beast
I never knew there were deleted scenes still in the games files. You are a data mining Great One for Bloodborne. I'd love too see what is happening with Vicar Amelia transformation but I imagine it's using a fake shadow and instant replaces her model during her off screen transformation.
Her transformation is interesting because if you just remove her model, the shadow disappears too, so somehow her model is actually casting the shadow. I want to know more...
Lance McDonald I'm not saying that there isn't a model that transforms, but the shadow could just be an effect that they put in similar to all the other effects in game. Ex: explosions from cannons, Sparks from hitting your weapon against a wall, the blood that appears when Maria slits her own wrists.
Warrant Officer Schrödinger whatever the effect is, and you’re right it’s likely some sneaky trick, it is definitely a dynamic shadow being cast by her model. If you just delete her character model (which doesn’t effect SFX stuff) the shadow completely disappears. I’m wondering if some weird massive shadow-cast pops out of her body. I really want to see it.
There is some dialogue that was uncovered that hints at an early draft of the story where Micolash plays the part of an ally to the Hunter for a time. If I could wildly speculate, maybe the "Micolash-Laurence & Willem" scene was originally from this draft where it was actually dialogue between the provost and the cage-wearing madman, and they just repurposed it later in development using editing to hide the original model in the scene. Or that could all be bollocks and they simply used Micolash's model so they didn't have to make a separate model wearing the student set.
The Willem cutscene seems to be just a flipped version of the cutscene you get from Laurence's skull just without all the bloom effects, and, well, scenery and details of any kind. I think they were just testing the camera angles.
Nicolas No it wont. The amswer to why Micolash is there is simply to not waste resources Why the fuck would they design whole model for a character that isnt even seen in the game. They simply used Micolash since he wears the students uniform, and since Laurence is also a student, they placed the model.
I feel like the change to the cathedral ward cutscene came from a time when in developement when they weren't sure what ways the player will progress early game. Between the locked door just past the cleric beast, the key to skip old yarhnam, and now the cutscenes in this video, I feel it's safe to say that route through early stages and boss order weren't set in stone.
That cutscene of the hunting party you showed us is actually taking place in Cathedral Ward, around where the door connects the Great Bridge to Odeon Chapel. They're on the staris heading up to the gate where you use the Hunter Chief Emblem. I believe this cutscene might have been used to show us the hunting party coming back after a night of the hunt as soon as we enter CW, or at the end of the game as we wake up. It would have been SO cool if From had showed us this little detail.
I think Fromsoftware should include these scenes in certain key levels. It shows off the details of the environment. I think it’s nice to see our character when we ourselves are not playing as them.
+Lance McDonald The part where all the Yharnam citizens and dogs is actually from a very early trailer for BloodBorne, the title for BloodBorne when it was still being developed was called "Project Beast"
Someone's probably said this already, but the cutscene at 4:24 (the one with Master Willem rocking in his chair from different angles) is likely an in-game render of the flashback that plays when you touch Laurence's skull in the Grand Cathedral, the one scene where Laurence and Willem are talking to each other, and it was later pre-rendered like the in-game versions of the opening cutscene you showed earlier in the video. The angles of Willem match almost exactly with the views shown in the version that was used, especially that overhead shot which clued me in on it. Again, someone's probably already said it, but I thought I'd say it just in case no one had.
Hey man, I love the content. I should let you know, there is an earlier alpha build of Dark Souls 3 from around August 2015 (gamescom) if you're going to look at it more in-depth. The build has some of the more interesting story changes, like the dancer NPC and an early Kiln of the First Flame map.
Im assuming the original plan for the cleric beast was to spot him dashing past the first early areas wrecking things up here and there as we approach the grand cathedral eluding to him searching for his head
With the Cathedral Ward cinematic - I reckon it's better to show you sweeping shots of the area, instead of showing you shots of the room you're literally standing in
That Cleric Beast animation is cool but I still do really love Vicar Amelia's cutscene. Perhaps in another area it could've worked, I never liked how the Cleric Beast just jumps out from nowhere (or more specifically, an area you can walk to if you haven't beat him yet in NG+... and he doesn't appear... just lol)
It would have been very nice if we got to see and encounter more patrolling groups of man-beats and dogs out on a hunt (similar to that in Central Yharnam and just as large or even larger) with different variations of the same type of enemies before getting to the Forbidden Woods and before things begin to change. There, we could have also gotten more outfits and weapons, perhaps some of what those enemies used like pitchforks, axes or other improvised weapons for the hunt. Sure, they wouldn't be the best but they could've added a bit more variation and could've made for some interesting runs, maybe, and make the Hunter trick weapons stand out more and seem even more badass by comparison. Even if it isn't entirely necessary, I hope like hell that there'll be another Bloodborne.
Well this explains why the Cleric Beast is always getting stuck on those statues, and why the camera is either clipped through the railing, or trying to fly up it's own ass... They should have just done a double boss fight in Grand Cathedral.
4 years late but maybe the reason why Micolash is in the Willem cutscene is because they simply wanted a model that had the Byrgenwerth student outfit for Laurence and Micolash was the best one they could use?
It seems that in the early draft of the game Micolash was meant to be the student that leaves Willhem and founds the healing Church, but he doesn't toil with blood, hence Laurence steps in.

Your vids are great!! I've always wanted to know if the structure we can see from looking down just outside Iosefka's clinic courtyard is the Church of the Good Chalice. Hope you answer that in future content!
The first cutscene was most likely an alternative entrance for Amelia, but the devs clearly have not actually made Amelia, and the Cleric beast was put there as a placeholder.
Could those different angles of Willem rocking been testing for the cutscene with Willem and Laurence? They looked like all the same angles from that scene, just mirrored.
That would make sense as to why Laurence is in the same room in the hunters nightmare. If this was in the game I believe this would be the Lawrence in the waking world and then we would fight him the the dreamlands (Hunters nightmare) later in the story to fully free him.
4:20 Not quite. What you discovered is the in-game trailer for Project Beast. If you look up the trailer on UA-cam, you'll see is the exact same animations, camera angles, etc. Apparently Sony thought a dirty dog wasn't dark enough so they made this CGI version that never appears in the game.
Eduardo Pratti I personally believe FromSoft was trying to make their own trailer ingame engine until Sony showed up and make/fund the CGI trailer for marketing as companies at E3 love to demonstrate their games to public with CGI trailers or gameplay trailers with prerendering. They did the same thing on soundtrack of Bloodborne too as in Alpha version the Cleric Beast and Hunters Dream is synthesized until(which I believe) Sony showed up once again to fund an actual orchestra to record the OST. There is also a video on Playstation channel about Bloodborne s OST recording. Orchestrated OST is definitely wasnt FromSofts decision as Dark Souls III didnt had any orchestral soundtrack either even though it was a newer game and it could attract way more sales as it wasn't an exclusive to a single platform. Probably its hard to make and/or fund it without support. Sony needed a good exclusive(s) for their console so people have reasons to buy it. Bloodborne was their advertised exclusive game for 2015. I dont want to shittalk DS3 (note the fact that I never played BB) there is a reason BB looks/plays/sounds better game overall as there is more work and money put on it. Also it seems to me BB had more development time than Dark Souls III. Wish DS3 was high quality as BB. Well, at least DS3 has Nameless King I guess.
wolfet_luca bloodborne has way less content and shitty tacked on online. You can like BB better, but saying it had more time and work than ds3 is insane. Also, the games look about equal graphically. You probably just like BBs art style better. Also also, you probably don’t know much about musical composition, but to call ds3s soundtrack “Synthesized” isn’t accurate. It’s not made with synths, it’s made with sample libraries.
I always had gloves on and never noticed how nice the hands are. I wish there were more cutscenes... not story, mind you, since I appreciated the ambiguity and complexity. I just want to enjoy more of the visuals.
you speculate if that cutscene represents a concept for the CGI cutscene, but the truth is those kinds of CGI cutscenes are often finsihed way before the game itself is, and therefore often end up surviving rewrites and game changes. For instance, the intro to Dark Souls 2, which has a heavier enphasis on that game's heavily cut and truncated time travel plot. Similarly, Bloodborne's opening CGI ending, hints at the chalice dungeons, and places that altar in them, suggesting they were once meant to probably be a plot significant area you visit in game, and not just side content. So my tldr is that it sactually more likely the other way around, the CGi influenced the cutscene, which was then at some point later in development, moved from their earlier chalice dungeon placement, to the cathedral. (and then ended up being cut anyway, with the events shuffled, where you instead interact with the skull *after* killing Amelia
Besides WoW, Bloodborne is the only game that still teases me to play it even after so many times I've finished it. It's partly because of all those secrets that haven't been entirely revealed yet.
the micolash model is probably the devs being meticulous about detail even when using filler micolash is a boss/npc that uses that school outfit, so they used him, since you dont see much of him anyway speaking of which though, I would love to see if there's any traces in, say, the alpha or just unused content in general that addresses the unused hatch in Bergenwerth. Ever since I played the game, that was something that bugged me. Im pretty sure the lecture hall that we mysteriously warp to is the missing lower level, but itd be nice to see something relating to that
The first one is Lawrence. I think that's the model used for hom in the old hunters. The cleric beast in the beginning of the game looks different I believe...
What if it was the Cleric beast that they originally had you fight in the Cathedral but they may have changed it last minute to have you fight it on the bridge instead as the opening boss.
Let me know if there's any particular cutscenes from the game you'd like a different, closer look at!
Lance McDonald check if they use different NPCs for true Iosefka and impostor Iosefka. I've tried looking through the broken glass on the door but I wasn't so sure

One of my favorite stories of all time
Perhaps the cutscene for master Wilhelm was the transition his cut boss fight?
It's interesting the emphasis Bloodborne puts on hands.
the one you are confused about was probably the beta for when you activate the skull in the Grand cathedral
You have granted us eyes thank you
6:03 Dark Souls 3 sun
Bloodborne is in the same universe as dark souls confirmed.
Joke, but obviously they are.
They obviously are in different universes
One of the best video games evaaaar!
0:40 Hunter: Hand it over, that thing, your thicc skull
I feel like the lit up ending implies we end up in the hunters nightmare
Awesome man keep up the good work
you speculate if that cutscene represents a concept for the CGI cutscene, but the truth is those kinds of CGI cutscenes are often finsihed way before the game itself is, and therefore often end up surviving rewrites and game changes.
The master William cutscene is probably for the password cutscene that is ingame
Great video! Thank you
Besides WoW, Bloodborne is the only game that still teases me to play it even after so many times I've finished it. It's partly because of all those secrets that haven't been entirely revealed yet.
Some of it looks like the Bloodborne Teaser when the game was first announced.
It's all rather breathtaking. I would be more interested in a cinematic bloodborne.
I like your videos. I wish I could use that item myself but i just saw that it would be impossible.
the micolash model is probably the devs being meticulous about detail even when using filler
micolash is a boss/npc that uses that school outfit, so they used him, since you dont see much of him anyway
speaking of which though, I would love to see if there's any traces in, say, the alpha or just unused content in general that addresses the unused hatch in Bergenwerth.
Unrelated to bloodborne, but when you said “like button” in the video, the like button on the browser was outlined in some rainbow for a second!
Thumbnail looks like it should have a BEFORE YOU BUY caption
0:40 Wow, kinda giving me DS3 vibes. Very similar to Vordt's entrance.
WOAH WOAH WOAH!
BE CAREFUL DOING THIS STUFF!
You may get put into a frenzy!
Master willem was just ghe same angles in the cutscene triggered by lawrences skull
The scene with the cleric beast can be seen in a boss fight in a trailer
Edit: It seems a fair bit of this is in the trailers
1:43 probably a place holder or scene test.
What if it was the Cleric beast that they originally had you fight in the Cathedral but they may have changed it last minute to have you fight it on the bridge instead as the opening boss.
Actually I'm glad these scenes were cut. Amelia boss was amazing and her cutscene was great.
Think the first cutscene was replaced as Laurence skull was moved to DLC and you fight him as a fire cleric beast
